Think of Taco Mesita as a gourmet version of Taco Bell. They have a drive thru and some patio seating, with ordering done at a counter or at the drive thru menu. What impresses me about this place is that they are see oil free, they use beef tallow and olive oil. They also don't cook in lard. Woodfired steak ($7) - This taco was served on organic blue corn tortilla and consisted of grilled steak, pickled onions, guacamole, salsa macha and cilantro. While the steak was tender, the taco itself didn't have much in the flavor department and was on the smaller side given the price point. Rotisserie pollo ($10.75) - This burrito had plenty of tender chicken, tomatillo, corn, cabbage relish, avocado crema, and queso fresco. It was definitely a better value then the taco, but I would describe the taste as being good. Overall I thought the food was just ok. I'm going to start this review by saying we go here often and we love the food. Quality is great and flavor is there. The drive through can take a bit , but it's not fast food so that has never bothered me. My one gripe, and it's enough for me to knock 2 stars, is their stinginess with salsa. Only Mexican restaurant I've ever been where they are vehemently stingy with their salsa. Order chips and pay close to $5 after tax and you get a solid amount of chips, but they only allow you 2 salsa and half the time they barely fill the salsa containers (honestly sometimes like 1/4 full which is less than an ounce of salsa). Again, it's literally the only Mexican food restaurant I've ever been to that limits you on salsa and it's not even reasonable. And this last time I went finally sent me over the edge because they charged me extra for salsa because I wanted more and I finally agreed to just pay up only to get home and realize half the containers were less than half full. Honestly unacceptable. And on top of that I'm a frequent customer that will tip a few bucks every time even though I'm not dining in and I continuously get screwed on the salsa. read more

The restaurant itself is pretty cool with a nice outdoor seating area directly in front of the ordering window and a drive thru that wraps around the building. I was bummed they were out of the horchata and noticed a couple other items that were already off menu by noon on a Sunday morning so be flexible. The tortillas are nice and toasted and the beans and cheese inside were legit, not a fast food quality at all. That whipped jalapeño sauce should be sold in buckets, great kick and so refreshing. You can take out, or you can sit in a very limited seating patio with uncomfortable metal stools and tables. We've been hearing about this place due to its popularity at one of the farmers markets in Newport Beach! We came specifically for their breakfast tacos, which had a lot of components to them: blue corn tortilla, cheese, potatoes, eggs, cilantro, pickled onions, and poblano chili, and they came with a creamy green sauce. I added steak, and it was great! I loved it. I will say maybe the egg needed to be seasoned, but I added a pinch of salt and ate my tacos up. Brunch ends at 1pm so we just made the cut off but so glad we did. The French toast was fluffy and absolutely delicious. For $8.75 you honestly couldn't go wrong. When we ordered, the woman at the counter seemed very uninterested and came across as rude. When our food arrived, one burrito was labeled as chicken instead of bean and cheese. We let the employee know it wasn't what we ordered and asked for the correct burrito. She took the burrito to the back in her bare hand. A few minutes later, she returned holding the same burrito in her bare hand and told us it had simply been mislabeled and was actually the correct burrito. Since the burrito had already been taken away and handled, we asked if it could be remade. She refused, saying they wouldn't remake it but would instead issue a refund. We continued eating the rest of our meal while waiting for the refund. After we finished, we asked for an update, but the employee at the counter refused to give us the refund. We had to find the original employee who promised it, and only after the staff conducted what felt like a full investigation did we finally receive it. It's disappointing because the food was genuinely good, but the poor customer service and the way this situation was handled left a bad impression. When I went back to ask for it, I was told I had to pay another $0.50, so I did. Right after me, the customer behind me just asked for two more salsas and was given both for free. Customer service is top notch! Alaine was so gracious and kind. I have been coming here since they opened. The quality of food for the price can't be beat. The carne asada tacos without salsa macha are my favorite with the very close second being the taquito with barbacoa on top. The meats are seasoned nicely without being overpowering. The blue corn tortillas are amazing here! Taco mesita is located near downtown Tustin. Shop is small with few seatings and a drive through lane. I got the chicken taco ($6) and my fiancé got the steak and pork taco ($7 and $5). Although $5-$7 seems expensive for one taco, size is generous. The chicken taco was tender and the charred corn gave it a nice crunch. My finances pork and steak taco was delicious. They also have salsa but not the best I've had. Overall service is friendly and a spectacular hole in a wall. Would love to try the breakfast burritos my next visit! read more

I visited Taco Mesita on an early Tuesday evening for taco Tuesday with my sister. Parking wasn't difficult since they have a small lot right by the restaurant. They didn't have any indoor seating, but we had no trouble finding a table since it wasn't very busy when we arrived. The employees were so kind & friendly. We both ordered the barbacoa taco & pollo en mole taco after getting them recommended by one of the workers, & I also tried the white gold horchata--which I loved. Everything was absolutely delicious, & I really appreciate that they're a seed-oil-free establishment. My sister & I are already making plans to come back for another taco Tuesday. read more
