At one point she stood behind the counter with a look on her face that could be best described as '...what do I do first..' What was ordered: Kale Caesar Salad - fresh croutons with generous bits of bacon; very lightly dressed Chicken and Waffles - 2 drumsticks and a breast served with 4 pieces of waffle and a small side salad Shrimp Eggs Benny - 2 deep fried shrimp patties; served with baby potatoes and a side salad The chicken was very crispy and still juicy but based on the colour of the fry the oil needs to be changed. It came with 2 small containers of syrup (not real maple syrup) and some that looked like plum sauce. The potatoes on the eggs Benny were good but when you deep fry the shrimp patty you wonder what other filler there might be in the patties. Service was decent despite the fact that there was one person who served and cleaned. An okay experience....not sure it warrants another return.

Last Wednesday, I was at Woodside Square's food court, having an early dinner thanks to Beef Noodle Slurp. Next to this food stall was Baker Duck. I have been to the original Baker Duck at Denison Centre, which is close to my home. It was nice to visit its second location. I looked at the sign saying that if my items totalled at least $15, I could use my credit card to pay. I rarely have cash on me. Spending $15 was easy. The sour note to my visit was a female staffer to brought out three different baking trays with baked goods and managed to poke me with each them. Really? Coincidence or targeted weirdness? I don't know. I could have been nasty and tripped her. Then again, I wouldn't stoop to her level of stupidity. My haul consisted of these items: - Grilled cheese with pork floss - Egg salad bun - Tempura curry beef bun - Pork floss and bacon bun - Hot dog bun - Curry beef bun - Curry beef puff I got a different woman who helped cash me out. She was great putting my items in a bag. Each item was in its own bag. I appreciated it, as I saw some small flies going at the sesame balls. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was done. I thanked the woman, grabbed my goodies, and headed to my car. On the whole, I loved everything that I ate. I didn't realize that I went hard on curry beef, but it's delicious. I should get the BBQ pork bun next time. The grilled cheese with pork floss around the crust was yummy and unique. It was the surprise item out of the bunch. I make a lot of egg salad. I got the sweet and sour fish meal set and each set comes with three different side dishes, a small soup and a bowl of rice. Our table also split a plate of popcorn chicken as an appetiser. Overall the portions were pretty generous and the flavours of all the food were great. I did wish that my fish was less soggy and but otherwise the service was good. You sign in by using the kiosk and the server would let you know when your table is ready. They also have a self serve kiosk for takeout, so it does help save some time. We came on a Saturday afternoon right at opening (12pm) and the restaurant was already packed. Luckily we got a seat fairly quickly or else the wait could take awhile. The drinks and bakery menu are exactly the same as Shan Shan, while the food menu is limited because it's still soft opening. We got the matcha mango latte, osmanthus latte, beef noodles, sesame seed chicken soup, popcorn chicken set and taiwanese "kimchi". The soup was soothing and the chicken was tender and juicy. The popcorn chicken was crispy and not overly salty. I really liked the dipping sauce because it wasn't the usual sriracha mayo at other places. The beef noodles and soup were so good, reminds me of asian legend! The kimchi was definitely the bomb; it was flavourful but not overpowering unlike korean kimchi. I think it's a must try! It's currently soft opening and the entire restaurant is 10% off including the bakery section (cash payment). The promo expires Jan 15th. Servers were attentive and the restaurant was bright and clean. The plaza is new, so there is limited parking space. They take cash, debit and credit. Worth coming back!!

However, I do wish there was more of a caramelized top for the creme brulee. In hindsight I do wish I got a more interesting flavor like Ube or Pistachio since they have a good selection of flavors, but the creme brulee was still pretty tasty! I'd say order another flavor instead though. The souffle pancakes also take 20min to prepare which took longer than their other dishes, but as long as you're sharing plates and can eat something else until it comes then it's all good! Their strong Hong Kong tea is still one of the best around and almost half the price of other Chinese bakeries I frequent. They have mini pieces of a Japanese cheesecake item and other mini pieces of products, which is nice. Staff are always very courteous to their customers. As an aside: to those who frequent the Sheppard Centre, I noticed that the space belonging to the longstanding bakery Furama was for lease.
