Divey venue in need of decluttering and updated interior decor. 1-star less for $1.50 credit card surcharge, and CASH only tip as it almost feels like you have to be prepared coming here. read more

I'm updating my stars due to a negative experience recently. I walked in & asked how long the wait was for a nochip manicure. They were fairly busy but told me 5-10 mins. This surprised me but I sat down. Sure enough, 10 mins later I was being led to a chair and the nail tech started working to remove polish from a previous visit. Same nail tech then got up and took another client to the station next to mine and started work on her. I figured she was prepping her nails while waiting for my polish to be manageable to remove. This was not the case. I asked her if she was going to complete what she started and she told me not yet, the gal she was working on had an appointment. I asked why she started working on me only to stop? I took off my nail foils & left as clearly they were going to make me wait for another 40-50 mins I understand appointments but don't take a client and then stop working on them. I thought I had found a great place but unfortunately didn't live up to expectations. I got a gel manicure and the tech was nice and everything seemed great. However, less than 2 weeks later the gel is peeling, chipping & breaking. This NEVER happens to me when I get gel, so I think they didn't do enough coats. I think that I was being too kind when I previously gave them 4 stars. I stopped in today for a pedicure, and left feeling pretty "meh" about it. The salon does not have central air, and while they had several fans going it was still super warm and muggy in there. Not very conducive to relaxing, especially when you stick your feet in warm/hot water. The woman who did my feet today was just not very friendly at all. I think she is the owner, as she is the one who is always sitting at the front when you walk in. She did an okay job on my feet - nothing outstanding, but I've definitely had better pedicures. The foot massage was basically her rubbing lotion on my feet - I felt kind of cheated. On top of that, they now charge a $1.50 fee to use a credit card. Bogus! The prices are good, but they're the same at other places that do a better job and are nicer. I'm thinking I'll skip this place in the future. read more

After doing a long run this morning, I felt like my feet deserved a little pampering. As I write this review, my feet are still enjoying the after effects of the massage that Kim (?) gave me as she did my pedicure. As a first timer at PS Nails, I would have to say it was a great experience. Kim was very sweet and showed me how to use the massaging chair and did a great job on my nails. I can definitely see why this is a popular destination--during my visit there was a fairly constant flow of business early Friday afternoon. I've only been here two times since my friend recommended it. Their customer service is amazing which definitely makes the experience incomparable to other salons. They all greet you the second you walk in and all say thank you for coming when you leave. They do a great job with the nails and are fast! I love places that have such great customer service. This is buy far the best, cheap nail salon on the northside. I have tried many places and P.S. nails, never fails. I am very rough with my hands and have had a standard manicure last up to 2 weeks! They have great Essi and OPI colors and clean workstations. To top it all off, they have rememebered my name since the first day I visited! Della, the women who sits in the front, rocks. I only let her do my nails. She is so nice and has touched up my smudges numerous times with no complaints. Two downfalls: 1. Run of the mill nail salon. Nothing sexy about this place - neither in its decor nor its customer service. I walked in and was seated pretty promptly. They had a decent sized holding of gel colors to chose from. I picked out my color and disappeared into my phone. The pedicure was decent and so was the manicure. I was a little turned off by the fact that most of their gel curing appliances are the old school kind that carry waves. Anyway, the gal who performed the services had an annoying attitude and she was too loud (ever so often I'd ask her a question and she'd essentially stand on a soap box and announce her answer to the entire salon each time). Super annoying. When it came time to pay, notwithstanding that they have an Amex logo on the door amid all of the other credit card logos (the implication here being that they accept Amex), they do not in fact accept Amex. When I pointed to the door she shrugged her shoulders and said she didn't know what that was about. Super annoying. I'd probably only return here if in a bind, and only if I remember to bring my headphones next time. read more

The price is right!! I've been getting my mani/pedis here for 4 years now. And the only reason is that they're located so close to where I live. I've found cheaper deals while walking on Broadway (the mani/pedi salons are aplenty in Lincoln Park but they offer a special deal only on Mon-Wed afternoons). PS nails' mani-pedis have a fixed rate of $35 bucks. Better if paid by cash as they charge a little extra if you use your credit card. There's a Chase ATM pretty close by. The interiors are nothing special and this place tends to get crowded during weekends so call before you head out. Technique-wise their mani-pedis are definitely relaxing. Don't get ripped off by getting threading done here there are cheaper places around. read more

Everything I've ever had done there has turned out great...manis/pedis/eye brows threaded and waxed/full set of pink and white acrylic...I think that covers about everything. They are extremely friendly, and they knew me by first name after only a couple of visits. I would definitely recommend P.S. Nails to anyone looking for a quick nail salon experience. The only downfalls about the place are that they don't accept tips on debit/credit card purchases so you have to have some cash with you and they charge $1.50 for all payments made with a debit/credit card. I wanted to like this place since its a mere 5 minute walk from my house. First, I asked for a gel color and instead of telling me they didn't have it and offer for me to pick another color, she decided to make the color herself by mixing an orange and a pink together. The result was orange nails that looked pink in darker rooms (the color I wanted was a shade of pink). A week later, one of the nails popped off while getting my son out of his car seat. Went to PS Nails for the first time today....got a no-chip manicure. Linda did a great job! She took her time and did not rush through the nail painting process. I always judge places on how clean they are; this salon is nice and clean! Even the white towels they used underneath my hands were clean and soft. For $35.00, you get what you pay for, so don't expect any kind of hot stones or long massages. I love P.S. Nails! This is where I go to have some Me Time in a friendly atmosphere. I usually come in for a no-chip manicure and a pedicure. I also come out with quality results no matter who does my nails. Every nail technician in there does an excellent job! Last week I wanted to try something new. I keep seeing cool photos on pintetest of matte nail polish and shiny tips so I was very excited to finally try it out. Kelly did such a great job and she even told me I was the first one to request this style in their shop so she was excited too! I go to the nail salon partially for an excuse to read the latest issues of People and Us Weekly, so I hate it when people try to talk to me when I'm getting my nails done. Not a problem here. A 3-star nail experience. You get what you pay for and this is a good option for moderately priced nail care in Lincoln Park. Went there on a Sunday morning and they were able to fit me right in. Staff were very friendly and pleasant and learned my name. They have spa pedicure chairs. They put a sanitizing tablet in the water that kills germs and fungi, but I thought they were weird because they turn the water blue and give off a funky odor that reminded me of toilet bowl cleaner. In addition, most technicians wear latex gloves. I understand it's for their own protection, but it made the massage feel like I was being rubbed down with a soggy deflated balloon. In short, I'm all for disease prevention but it does make for a less luxurious experience. Technician did a great job on the polish. She took her time and painted my teeny toenails, getting polish into the corners and keeping it off my skin. They use OPI and Essie. If you use a charge/debit card, they charge a $1.50 "convenience fee." However, since it was my first visit, the owner waived the fee for me (without me even having to ask) but she let me know next time I would have to pay the fee or bring cash. No tips on credit cards. Bottom line: no frills, sanitizing pills, remember to bring dollar bills. read more

Great price and amazing nails/eyebrows! Also Tammy is amazing for threading/waxing eyebrows. I prefer threading, but either way she is so great. Go to her if you need your eyebrows done, she takes her time and is very careful to get every hair. Tammy and Lella (sorry spelling!) are so amazing with nails, honestly they look great everytime. The prices here are reasonable and the people are friendly. I came in earlier and had gel nails removed and also got a manicure. They did a great job with my nails in terms of removing the fake nails, trimming and shaping my nails, etc. however the polish really did not hold up. I sat under the dryer for about 25 minutes and hours later my nails still feel tacky and have chipped. Not sure if this was an issue with my specific polish as I saw other people's nails who looked great but I'd make sure your nails are perfect before you walk out the door. read more

A-ma-zing. As a first-timer at PS Nails, I will most definitely be coming back. I got off work later than expected and strolled into the salon around 7:35pm asking for a mani/pedi (they close at 8pm and being a first-timer, I didn't realize that). The ladies were so nice and although there wasn't time for both a mani/pedi, they were able to do a pedicure and a polish change on my hands. I am not exaggerating when I say it was the best pedicure I've ever received. These ladies really take the time to do it right and my feet have never been softer. And even though I was the jerk who walked in late, they finished the job right and didn't rush to get it done quicker just so they could go home, which I feel isn't something you see often. One thing to note is that they don't have the tip line available on credit cards so you need to leave your tip in cash. And believe me, you'll want to tip! read more

Came in here the other day for a REGULAR manicure and was charged $30. I can go up to Clark's Magic Nails and pay $32 for a no-chip. Most places don't charge more than $15 for a regular mani. This place's prices are way out of whack. Also, they don't accept tips on a card, so you must bring cash! Their hours are okay. I believe they are open until 8:00 during the week. Staff is so-so.
