We also had to order the giant 14-inch pancake, and it's just as impressive as it looks. It's enormous and perfect for sharing. The loaded omelet, shrimp and grits, breakfast platter, creamy mac and cheese, and specialty coffees were all delicious and made with fresh ingredients. The service was friendly and attentive, and the food came out quickly despite ordering several dishes. I've been to Oy! Years ago but my wife never been and wanted to try after church on Sunday. We were seated promptly. I will say they had the music blasting too loud. I thought my food was okay, it wasn't really seasoned and kinda bland. I did like the fact that I received a lot of food and it came out very quick. My friend got the 14 inch Oreo pancake, this was HUGE!! My pancake was moist, fluffy and full of bacon. Disappointed. Just to set the expectation: I have an 8 year old. The only time I get to go out on a date with the wife is during school hours. I was looking for "casual date" atmosphere. This is a step up from Waffle House. The food was blazingly fast and large - that's true but that was part of the problem. The omelet felt like the eggs were fresh but then they added a scoop of filling from the fridge. So the edges where it was just egg was warm but the middle was cold. It was certainly not hot as a freshly cooked omelet should have been. Same with the toast. I suspect that the toast was made in bulk and cooling on a plate because by the time I look a bite it was cold. The flavor was ok. Some heat from the jalapeños but needed salt. The photos in the other reviews make the place look more upscale than it is. The restaurant is painted blue these days and as you can see the place is showing its wear. read more

OY has a neighborhood Friends type vibe. I love the ambiance, it's low key and the value is amazing! I am a breakfast person, however I am annoyingly picky and Oy checks all of my boxes! The food is fresh, tasty, delicious and it makes you happy. Seriously, who can be angry about a giant pancake! I wake up early on Saturdays because the food is so good and I love that they are conveniently located in one of my favorite parts of town. Today, I visited OY! for breakfast and had a mixed experience. I ordered the Farmer's Hash scrambled, along with what I thought would be a single strawberry pancake. When I placed my order, I asked the waitress if I could just get one pancake (since the menu listed a "short stack" for $11.99). She confirmed that was fine. When my food arrived, the Farmer's Hash was excellent--flavorful, well-seasoned, and very satisfying. Definitely the highlight of the meal. The pancake, however, was disappointing. Although it was large (about 7 inches, according to the waitress), the strawberry flavor was very subtle to the point of being bland. It was supposed to be cream-infused but tasted more like a regular pancake with food coloring and a small amount of strawberry jam in the center. The real issue came with the bill. I was charged $11.99 for the single pancake--the same price as the full short stack. When I questioned it, the explanation I got wasn't very clear, and it didn't really justify the charge--especially since the menu listed one pancake at $8.49. If I had known I'd be paying $11.99 for just one, I definitely would have skipped it. Aside from that, the service was friendly, and I appreciated the portion sizes. You do get a good amount of food for what you pay--assuming the pricing matches the menu. Overall, I'd return for the Farmer's Hash, but I'd skip the specialty pancakes next time and double-check pricing to avoid confusion. read more

After the 2nd visit, I noticed they have another menu on one of the upper walls, separate from the printed menu, with additional options. Not to mention their pancakes are the size of small pizza's and literally served in pizza boxes. This is one of the few remaining restaurants that offers quality and pre-Covid prices on their food. It's a simple, no fluff breakfast/brunch spot that has the simple-life/feel-good ambiance. So you're only paying for food, and not a flashy or fad atmosphere. When we got on the waitlist it was a weird smell in the restaurant, but we opted to look past it and still wait. We get a table an hour later and it is so filthy. Trash all over the floor and the table still Had food crumbs. We asked a waitress to sweep and wipe. Her answer was to look for a bus boy only to come back and state to "wait a few minutes". Mind you she had no other table that we could see and I wondered what was wrong with her doing it. Not to mention there were 3 other people at the counter just looking at this exchange. Now...shrimp and grits are one of those things, that most restaurants just can't seem to get right. Either it's too bland, too soupy, or the flavor profiles just aren't right. The food is described on paper deliciously, but is average at best. I got the breakfast plate with eggs, bacon, grits and a biscuit. The eggs were bland and the cheese I got added was not mixed in but dumped on top, which was the same as my grits. The grits had no flavor, which was sad bc they looked decent.
