    Braised Beef w/ Chinese Pickle
    Amber F.

Located next to UC Berkeley with indoor only seating (10-15 tables). Because it's right next to campus, there's always a wait (about a 25 min wait for a party of 3 on a Friday evening; the line got way longer after we got seated). You order on your phone using a QR code. I got the Braised Beef Stew Noodle ($16) with normal noodles (you can choose the noodle thickness and shape; they have sooo many options). The portions are big and they gave me a lot of meat. Their beef is tender and the broth is very flavorful. There isn't really much service because it's so busy, so you have to flag down a server if you need anything.

$17.63 Chicken stir fry knife cut noodles was: oily! The flavor profile was a bit unusual, not bad mind you. However, I tried to doctor it up to cut the oiliness with the table condiments as best I could. Given the high Yelp rating, I'll give the soup a try next time but...

Five stars because the dish we came here for (the braised beef noodles) was amazing - no notes. It's not spicy at all so you can really taste the flavorful broth but they have vinegar and chili oil on the table so you can adjust the flavor to your preference. The spicy wontons were good but I've had better and the cumin beef burger was okay. Would definitely come back for the noodles! We got the knife cut noodles which were thick, chewy and perfectly cut. I'd be interested in trying a slightly thinner noodle next time.

Always love ox9! We were super excited when they opened in Berkeley. There was a line when we got there so we didn't want to be difficult. We had a toddler with us but figured she can just sit on one of our laps. But the staff was so accommodating that when a bigger table opened up shortly after we sat down, they offered to switch us and add a high chair, which was very much appreciated. We got some beef noodle soup, dumplings and an appetizer and everything was just delicious; our toddler couldn't stop eating noodles (so we got an extra serving luckily). So good!

Ox9 Lanzhou Handpulled Noodles opened recently where Mochiholic mochi donuts once was. Infrastructure has Ox9 signage decor. Ox9 is known for their housemade handpulled noodles and broth boiled over 20 hours with 3O. Ingredients. Was greeted, seated and given laminated menu by 1of 4 associates on the floor. Ordered. Food came in 6 minutes. Flatscreen on wall showed noodles being made and food prep. Offerings (Northwest China): desserts, noodles, drinks, dry noodles & fried rice. Drinks.. Slurps:mala spicy beef noodles (15.99) med noods. -choose regular round noods. Came Al dente. -broth initially tasted very salty. Didn't taste mala burning sensation. Assumed noods cooked lst, broth poured over it, mala sauce pour last. -noodle choices ranged from small round to large flat. -green onions, bok Choy, and small pieces tender beef in broth. Everything deliz. -got a plastic bib to stop the soup droplets from soiling my jacket. 4.5 stars Worthy! Service: 5 stars quality: 4 stars: great broth, good noods, didn't understand why mala sauce so weak. Quantity: reasonable.

Visited Ox9 on a cold rainy day for a warm bowl of noodles, and they did not let me down. The steamed pork ribs knife cut noodles had noodles with a bite to it, and a broth that was so comforting, filling, and all at once addictive, I couldn't get enough of it! I love their noodle bowls for how big the portion is, as well as how they always include a side of vegetables for a balanced meal. No wonder this place always has a line out of the door -- everyone wants a taste of Ox9. Definitely would come again!

The best braised beef noodles I've ever had!!! If you grew up around here, you would know parking by the Berkeley campus is a bit of a struggle, but we were able to find parking by the Cal gym. So be prepared to walk! As this place was new, it was quite busy around Monday night 7pm. But alas, we were seated within 15 minutes. It is a small restaurant I would say, most tables could fit around 4 or 2. Once you are seated, you have to order with your phone using a QR Code. My friend and I both ordered the Braised Beef Noodles with Chinese Pickles with the broad flat noodles and holy moly, that was the best noodle soup I've had. The broth was so flavorful and the beef was so tender. The Chinese pickles help cut the fattiness of both the broth and beef itself, making the meal addicting spoonful after spoonful. And the noodles? Chef's kiss. They were bouncy and chewy, definitely handmade. Reminds me of Shandong's hand pulled noodles. I love that they even have chili oil and black vinegar on the table! Anyways, definitely try this place out if you're a fan (or maybe not and you want to try something new) .

    Lanzhou Handpulled Noodle Soup (non-spicy)

Continuing my food journey trying out new hand-cut noodle places in Berkeley, I finally made it out to Ox9. And the food did not disappoint! We got here a little after 6p on a weeknight and got a table before a line started to form moments after. The ambience is probably the best of the 4 hand-cut noodle houses I've been to in the area. It wasn't cramped like Li's or Noodle Dynasty next door. Felt comfortable and updated. Tables were not super close together. Good lighting. But it was hard to hear conversations across the table. Started with the spicy pig ears, which I had for the first time because my friend ordered it. It tasted gelatinous, but I had nothing to compare it to or to write home about. Not too spicy. I got their Lanzhou Handpulled Noodle Soup (non-spicy). Food came quickly. OMG the beef was extremely tender and perfect! The belt flat noodle I got was so soft, smooth and tasted so fresh. Good size portions too. A lot of the menu features spicy dishes. My friend got the Mala spicy noodles and said it was on point too! Don't expect good service like the other similar places. It's just not part of the traditional/mainland Chinese culture TBH :) However, what was kinda rude is how a waiter came over with the payment terminal and put it on our table while we were still eating and I still had at least 1/3 of my noodles left, as a not so subtle hint to get us out of there since it was queuing out the front door by now. So for Food minus a for the check. Definitely going to come back and try other dishes and will recommend this place to friends!

Honestly, with all those 4-5 star Yelp reviews, I was expecting "wow"... but it was more like "hmm, okay" I even mentioned that in my Yelp review. I've been to the San Mateo location a few years ago, so I was interested to try the Berkeley location during its soft opening. I ordered the Lanzhou Handpulled Noodles ($15.95). The noodles themselves were good and the soup was served hot, but the broth was noticeably salty. The beef was tender with a few slices of radish, but overall the dish didn't stand out. My friend ordered the Stewed Pork Ribs Noodles ($15.95, spicy). She said the spice level was mild, but the flavor was bland, and the pork ribs were just average. The bigger issue was the billing and tipping. We asked for a separate check since I was paying by credit card and my friend was paying cash. The subtotal was $31.98, with Berkeley tax at 10.25%. The receipt suggested a 15% tip of $5.29, which is incorrect. I used the iTip app, and the calculation clearly shows that tip should be based on the pre-tax subtotal, which comes out to about $4.80, not $5.29. This feels misleading to customers, especially those who rely on the suggested tip amounts. Because I paid by credit card, my total came out to $20.27 instead of about $20.02. It's not a large amount, but it reflects a lack of transparency and accuracy. For a new location, I expected better attention to both food quality and basic billing practices.

Amazing soupy noodles, tastes really good with a numbing broth. I also really liked the noodles here, especially getting the normal/thicker style.

I have made it my mission to try every noodle spot in Berkeley, especially with so many new ones popping up this year! Ox 9 did not disappoint. I would recommend going early because we came at 6:30 on a Friday and waited about 20 minutes for a table for 4. Once we ordered, food came in about 5 minutes. I got the braised beef knife cut noodle soup. SO GOOD. Meat was super tender and really love the knife cut noodle texture. I also tried the Lanzhou hand pulled noodles and the soup was so nourishing and clean and also really yummy. Honestly would recommend this place over noodle dynasty because of the veggies and no msg. Restaurant was more of a fast casual spot, less decorations but very crowded and busy at night.

    Victoria T.

New hand pulled noodle place right by Noodle Dynasty. I tried their Braised Beef w/ Chinese pickled vegetables with the wide belt noodles and spicy pig ear. I thought they were good, but the beef is more on the fatty side and the noodles tasted a bit bland but with the chili oil it tasted better. It felt more like a fast-casual place, but I would go again and maybe try their dry noodle items.

I ordered a couple of their popular dishes, the KAOKAO Char Siu Set and the Chong Qing Noodles, and both were fantastic. The char siu was so tasty, nicely cooked with most of the fat rendered (a big plus since unrendered fat especially on BBQ is a pet peeve of mine). It had that satisfying chew, a subtle smoky char, and a sweet-savory black bean glaze that tied everything together. The rice and pickled cucumbers on the side were a great balance to the in your face flavors of the pork. The Chong Qing Noodles were another highlight. You can tell the noodles are handmade as they are springy, chewy, and full of texture. The staff actually recommended that I get them uncooked since I was ordering to go, so I could boil them at home for a few minutes to keep the perfect bite and they were totally right. The broth was rich and balanced, with nutty sesame paste, a gentle kick from chili oil, a bit of crunch from peanuts, and some fresh bok choy for contrast. Everything was packed thoughtfully for takeout and still tasted amazing even after a longer drive. Overall, a really pleasant experience with great food, great service, and a place I'll definitely return to next time I find myself around Berkeley!

When you walk in, you step into a vast, open concept restaurant where you can fully see into the entire kitchen and feel how everything connects into the space where you dine. The decor is mellow, warm and inviting. It's great for an intimate meal, groups and everything in between. I immediately notice that each table had a tiny sake bottle holding a mouthful of freshly picked wildflowers sitting on top. It spoke to my heart as I love reusing cool bottles just for the same purpose. My bf and I were greeted warmly and walked to our table. We arrived knowing what we wanted so we ordered straight away. My bf ordered the Pork Belly Tonkotsu and I had the Vegan Spicy Miso with tofu done 3 ways. My bf really enjoyed his ramen and said the meat was tender and flavorful, the broth "just right". My vegan ramen was pretty standard overall. I didn't find the broth to be very complex (it was solidly "miso") but I appreciated the texture of the noodles (they were absolutely perfect!) and the 3 types of tofu offered great variety- soft plain tofu, abura tofu (fried bean curd), and stewed bean curd. There were several distinct textures of tofu to savor: soft, crispy & creamy, firm. The owner, Stella, was on the floor as we headed up to pay for our meal. She was so kind to gift me an empty sake bottle after I complimented on the table decor. We learned about the painstaking patience required to open this location in Berekely and how passionate she and her staff are about the food they bring to the community. Our total for 2 entrees and 2 drinks was $60 before tip. We ordered two drinks (orange juice and an iced mocha) which were provided promptly. The orange juice was a little too sour and my mom had to add some sugar to improve the taste. The iced mocha was good, not too sweet. One thing to note the wait for our food took much longer than expected, and it may have been due to how busy it was. My mom opted to order the salmon yuzu benedict and I got an egg plate (scrambled eggs) with a side green salad. My mom mentioned the potatoes lacking salt but she enjoyed the salmon benedict. I thought the scrambled eggs were good, but slightly bland & needed salt and pepper. The side green salad was alright, but the vinaigrette had a bitter aftertaste. Overall, the meal was pretty good and timing wasn't the best. I'd likely return for brunch on a non-peak day. Definitely recommend joining the yelp waitlist prior to arriving if you can!

Unfortunately the food was just as bad and overpriced as the first time, I really don't understand how this place is so well reviewed. We both ordered 310 Burgers, one on the regular brioche bun and one on a lettuce wrap. The lettuce wrap came in two steamed, wilted pieces of iceberg, while the brioche bun was untoasted, foamy-textured and soggy. Both medium burgers had the consistency of boiled meatballs. The bacon jam was decent, but the overall experience was wildly unappetizing. We also both got plain fries, which were somehow greasy and dry at the same time, and instantly turned stale as they cooled down. We really hoped for this place because it's conveniently located, and all the other decent burger spots nearby have closed, but sadly we won't be giving 310 Eatery a third try.
