Allow me to begin by saying that my wife and I have enjoyed going to Outback Steakhouse on West Patrick Street in Frederick, Maryland, for many, many years. And, we have never had any problems. We have found the staff and management to be courteous and every bit eager to please their patrons. The problem we encountered recently was one of a different sort.
We have come to trust Outback Steakhouse and their management team very much which is why we prefer to make our purchases for special occasions. My wife's birthday was recently and we decided to depart from our usual 'Rib Dinners' and instead, try something new. So, we ordered two (2) Filet Mignon and Lobster Dinners along with their side orders. In addition, we ordered the four (4) extra shrimp thinking that would be a nice shared appetizer. So, this was our order.
My wife and I do not eat a lot of meat so Outback is all the more 'special' to for us. From time to time, we do purchase Filet Mignon from Costco. There, we can get a package of four (4) Filets which are all 2" to 3" thick and they range anywhere from $25 to $45 for the package. We normally freeze them.
Yeaterday, August 16th, I set-out to order our 'special birthday' celebration meal but had some difficulty completing the order on-line. So, I called Outback, directly. The staff and management team have always been courteous with us. We placed our order and arrived on-time. Our order was ready and we were off. The problem came about when we arrived at home.
I did not expect the Lobster portion of this dinner to be a lobster from the great State of Maine. In fact, it resembled the picture in the website provided by Outback Steakhouse. However, when I saw the Filet Mignon that I had ordered, I lost my breath as I sunk into my chair. What I received as a 6 oz. Filet Mignon resembled something of a rather small crab cake. This Filet was no thicker than 1/2", however, when one views the picture on the menu from the Outback website, clearly, the Filet Mignon is a full 2" to 3" thick. Was I disappointed? You bet I was. I also felt deeply deceived. The average individual walking down the street would find absolutely no similarity between the picture and the product provided by Outback Steakhouse. None, whatsoever.
Additionally, I was equally astonished to find that the four (4) shrimp that I had chosen as a shared appetizer to be nothing more than what any rational person would refer to as a regular 'medium' sized shrimp. At a price of $5.99 for all four, I felt a bit cheated that any restaurant would feel the need to stoop so low as to charge a whopping $1.50 for each one. Since there were no pictures of these shrimp on the Outback website to use as a reference, I once again placed my trust and faith in the management team.
I have decided to write this review out of utter frustration. And, I have done my best to remain unbiased and impartial and only relate the facts. I will not review the quality of the food received because the focus of my review remains on my feelings of being deceived by the size of the Filet Mignon and the Shrimp, only.
I am not looking for anything for free nor do I want any compensation. Some of the food has been eaten and my wife and I will live with it. We have a decision to make and it involves whether or not we remain loyal customers into the future.
What bothers me most is the cost of the dinner including our generous tip. The total cost was $90.06. We added a tip of 22.2% ($20.00) making this very disappointing dinner a total of $110.06.
I believe that most readers here already know what direction my final decision is heading even though I have not reached it yet.
