All the Western Sizzlin locations where I live have closed, so it was nice to stumble across one during my travels. This place is certainly a throwback, but in a positive way. I have noticed some people mentioning how it is confusing when entering the first time. It is kind of strange, but you have to take a left and walk around the whole dining room. You then make your way to the registers and order from there. If you want the buffet, you just order that and pay up front. I have never gotten anything but the buffet. They do their dinner buffet all day on weekends and I came on a Sunday, which was a busy day. They seem to have plenty of regulars who love the place, and I can understand why. The restaurant itself is clean. I did not notice anything overly dirty and the buffet remained maintained and well stocked. The service was nice enough. They made sure we had drinks and plates and cleared old plates efficiently. The concept of the restaurant does not require tons of interaction with the customers from the wait staff. The food is typical southern stuff such as fried chicken, meatloaf, macaroni and cheese, broccoli casserole, heavily seasoned and cooked vegetables of sorts, rolls, and many more. They also have a salad bar that looked fresh and plentiful. There were a couple desserts and a little ice cream station, but nothing too extensive and I think they only had chocolate. Standout items on the buffet for me were the meatloaf, fried chicken, casserole, chili, and what I am pretty sure was pork loin. I also like whatever they do to make their cooked carrots taste the way they do. A fun note for me is that the chili tastes exactly the way my mom's chili tastes. Overall, I think the quality of the buffet was worth the price. It is not a huge buffet like Golden Corral, but I think the quality is better. I am not sure if they keep the freshness up throughout the week, but they certainly had all the food on a quick rotation and nothing I had tasted old or anything. The food at this restaurant on the buffet was absolutely terrible and taste, and the presentation of the food made it look disgusting. We could not tell with several of the products were. We spent almost $200 for our party of eight. One only got a steak dinner, which I guess we all should have done. But, we have been there, done that this will not be a choice of restaurants to go to again for us. My daughter eats everything and she will get stuff and was like oh my gosh, what is this? The cashier acted like she was scared to talk. We didn't know if we were to get fountain drinks or the abundance of drinks that were there in an ice bin along the order line. My wife had meat loaf that was uneatable and to hide the poor quality, they drown it in salt. Nothing on the salad bar is labeled. The web site shows no pricing and is misleading, bordering on false advertising. The pricing is way to high for the poor items they offer. To top it all off, the service is nonexistent. I've been coming here for years with my family but haven't been here recently so my spouse and I decided to swing by. We were both disappointed. First, we were going to each order a steak with the add-on buffet portion. It used to cost an extra $5, now they charge you for a completely separate meal even if you just wanted to make your own salad. And they raised the price of that from $9.99 to $15. There is no add-on price anymore either. So my steak and bar would've cost me $30, same for my spouse, sorry not paying $60 for that. We decided to just get the bar, more disappointment. They removed a lot of it. No more bread, dessert, soup, olive bars. The entree section is tiny, fried chicken and shrimp. The salad bar got bigger. The potato bar is still there. The ice cream area sucks, no cones, no toppings other than hershey's syrup and smuckers caramel. I ate my fill of shrimp to at least cover the cost. For $15 I'll just go to Golden Corral, I'll get way more selection at least. Seriously, go back to the old version. I won't be back until that happens. read more

I was so disappointed. I took a large party here last night and I apologized to them all when we left. The prices went up and the quality went way down. My husband got buffet for $15 and there was fried chicken, dried up kielbasa and cat fish. There was only one stand with hot food and the only desert was ice cream. The place was clean and the service was good. But I ordered the chopped steak and it was paper thin and burned crunchy on the edges. It came with a side and a roll for $11.50 which wouldn't be bad if it was a better steak. The roll was good and I have always liked their cole slaw. I asked how much it would be to add buffet to my meal and was told it was $15. What? We will never go back here again. Let me say first that I am a regular at Western Sizzlin, but not by choice. My dad takes me and my family to lunch at this restaurant on a regular basis. But the only reason I say "not by choice" is that the delicious foods always tempt me to eat more than I should, which is a real detriment to my waistline. Yes, the decor has a western theme and country music is piped through the speakers. But I'm as small town as they come, so this is like coming home. The bathrooms, though small, are always clean and stocked. In fact, they're cleaner than the bathrooms in many nicer--and more expensive--restaurants in town. I am pretty obsessed with cleanliness, so it's safe to say that everything here is always clean. Even the giant mirror on the wall, which can't be easy to maintain. The tables are clean, plates clean, buffet clean. If I've ever been tweaked out about something dirty, it's because of something I saw a customer do, and there's not a lot the management can do about that (Besides, that's the nature of the buffet). The food selection is very nice for a place this size. The salad bar is always fresh and has a large variety of offerings. It's actually in 3 sections (standard salad, toppings like croutons and nuts, plus cold foods like fruit and cottage cheese) so it's pretty big. The soups vary, and typically they have two at a time. Common offerings are chicken rice (good!), chicken noodle, potato, clam chowder, chicken gumbo, and beef vegetable. The hot buffet includes the standard choices, such as mashed potatoes (yum), fried chicken (delish), spaghetti/baked pasta (also good), and green beans. Other things get rotated through, but I've seen fried chicken livers, spring rolls (rare but my favorite), fried rice, pot roast, and chicken pot pie. I LOVE the stuffing they sometimes offer, but my dad isn't thrilled by the chunks of onion in it, so it's all about personal preference, I guess. In addition, buffet customers can also enjoy hot rolls, a bar with potato toppings, and assorted desserts (cookies, cakes, cobblers, soft serve & toppings). My absolute favorite at Western Sizzlin is not offered on the buffet, however. I am a big fan of their steaks. I order them infrequently because otherwise I'd outgrow all my clothing in no time, but they are delicious! Tender. Juicy. Flavorful. I asked someone I knew who worked here many decades ago what made the steaks so tender, and he claimed it was what they used to marinate them. No idea if that is the truth, but something makes these steaks especially yummers. In addition, the service here is excellent. The staff is friendly and efficient. They handle any situation--a spilled drink, a loud kid--with kindness and a pleasant approach. We're always greeted with the kind of service that makes us happy to return. read more

My brother had recommended this restaurant to me, so my dad and I went to check it out. At first, it was incredibly confusing, seeing as there was no one waiting to seat you, or signs telling you where to go, or any indicators on how ordering works. Unfortunately, no one else had come in so we couldn't watch someone else to learn how to proceed. We finally discovered the cafeteria styled system and took our seats. This next part is not an understatement. THIS WAS THE BEST STEAK I HAD EVER HAD. I'm the type of person who puts hot sauce on absolutely everything. I even carry a bottle with me at all times just in case a restaurant doesn't have any. This steak didn't even need it. It was so flavorful and juicy that I didn't even need ketchup, or A1, or anything. I really did try but after walking around and around the buffet I couldn't find much to put on my plate. No, not "find" but recognize would be more appropriate. I was scared to eat anything after dodging the flies. It was dark inside, it was quiet, there wasn't anyone around ~should have been a sign. Wow I've been here many times and has the service ever dropped. When u come u can get the buffet bar and eat salad and hot foods. Sounds good but thy give you one plate when u pay and then u have to wait for the server to give you a new plate, why they don't just keep the plates at the salad bar is beyond me. I'm sure it has something to do with payments but anyways I waited and waited and waited for a new plate actually about 15 minutes before a had to grab someone and ask them at which time they seemed taken out by me asking. Stopped by during a recently trip to Hagerstown, MD. Nice looking property from the outside and once you walk through the front door you could tell it's a popular place to eat. It was Veteran's Day and they were very busy. Everything appeared clean and waitress was very kind and accommodating. Nice family environment! It's both a buffet and cafeteria arrangement. My family and I enjoyed the buffet but found the food to be a little wanting. To be fair and considering the price, it was a solid "average." We traveled a long way and got off the interstate to eat here. We eat at a lot of different restaurants and we have mixed results everywhere. The Food was fresh here and tastey.
