And the corn soaks up all the juices and was really good. My Daughter did sausage, snow crab, and Shrimp. I did Snow Crab, Lobster, and shrimp. All cooked well. We visited this place for the first time after seeing it from the highway. The atmosphere is very homely - neat, well lit, and plenty of seating for families (both booths and tables). The table is set with a construction paper for messy meals such as boils. I wasn't sure about the service at first. When first seated, no one came to our booth to get our drinks but a woman (manager perhaps) came by and asked if we had been served and when we replied "no," a waitress came to our table shortly afterwards and was very apologetic which improved the experience. She was very kind and took our orders and drinks since we were ready. Food: -Creamy crab soup - a watered down version of a classic cream of crab soup, lacked flavor and tasted more like milk and less like crab. -Catfish basket with onion rings - everything was fried wonderfully but the catfish was seasoned but was not flavorful as I've had before. The onion rings, however, were delicious! -Coleslaw - typical coleslaw. Nothing new. -Tilapia and fried shrimp basket - my fiancé wanted to try both and thankfully the restaurant allows combos (2 pieces of tilapia instead of 4 and 4 pieces of shrimp instead of 8) - fine tasting not memorable. They have plenty of seating, both tables and booths. Ashiya was our server and she was really sweet and attentive. The food was really good! Fresh and flavorful! The service was super fast as well! We couldn't believe how fast our food came out. We both got the Monday special (1/2lb crab legs, black mussels , and headless shrimp) but I substituted the black mussels for green mussels and paid the difference in price. We both got the juicy special for sauce option and I got the hot and he had the medium. We also had a half pound of sausage as well. Was traveling through the area, this was a recommended lunch spot by the locals. I have been to other boil houses before, this one was on par with the others. The addition of the noodles to the bag was new and a very creative addition. It was very tasty. We arrived in the afternoon. It was not ver busy, so there was not a wait. We ordered drinks and the hush puppy appetizer. They were crispy and had a nice sweet tinge to them. We order our boil, the standard offerings. I opted for the sausage and shrimp combo, added the spaghetti and the "juicy special" sauce. This is a combination of all the sauce offering and you can still pick your spice level. I always tend to like unpretentious seafood restaurants and Crab 99 screams "casual" from the top of its fried shellfish lungs. Each of a great many tables is covered in thick brown butcher paper, and a roll of the stuff is at each table for keeping your hands quasi-clean, as if its possible. These are good signs if in the mood for no-frills, no tablecloths, get-dirty shellfish eaten with your bare hands. We visited on a winter Monday for lunch and each ordered one of the baskets (fried fish, oysters or clams, with varous kinds of fries) for less than $15. The many seafood entrees and sauces were intriguing but at over $30 each, it seemed too much for lunch and be avoided. These instincts were well-served, as our lunch baskets were plentiful to the point of bountiful. One basket easily could have been shared among two adults. Even tilapia on a Monday was reasonably (but perhaps not entirely) fresh; this was my daring test for a seafood restaurant. We asked our helpful waitress whether it gets busy - she said emphatically yes on weekend evenings. We are unsurprised. We also noticed a bar area with an intriguing collection of old lisence plates nailed to the wall - one wonders how loud it might get, as the plates evoke a certain image and culture. We'd come back often if not for distance. As it is, we plan to be back now and again, just to see what an evening is like here. read more

Everything is imitation crab mix. I'm allergic to imitation crab. I can eat 100% crab. Crab cakes are mush and gross. Their crab legs look like someone dumped Old Bay on them and didn't mix them or toss them so clumpy heaps of seasoning in spots. No fries included in dishes to at least fill up on. I've been searching for a good seafood place and this place did not disappoint. First time here but will not be my last. I ordered a delicious drink called Liquid Marijuana which was fruity and not overly powering. Then came the food! Yummy! Got Alaskan crab legs and headless shrimp with old bay seasoning. The spice level was good for me, maybe I could have gone one more spicy level up. What a downer for a seafood place. We ordered all fried oysters, scallops, onion rings. All were a dismal failure. All seemed fresh but zero flavor. Can't figure how fresh can have no flavor. Husband ordered Clam Chowder. It came with a welcome surprise of a few clams still in its shell. Nice touch but the clams could have been cooked a little bit more. Soup should have more savory flavor to it . I ordered the CRAB CAKE . We've had a great experience both times we've gone. The staff are friendly and the restaurant has a cute atmosphere. The food comes out fast and is very hot. The special and garlic butter sauces are flavorful. So far we've tried the crab legs and green mussels. They were both absolutely delicious. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu. If there was one complaint, it would be that I wish they had their liquor license but it sounds like COVID has been a barrier. I don't know why this business even bothered to open up in Hagerstown. They never have any crabs in stock except for the overpriced king legs. They always have excuses for not having crabs. I bought crabs in Frederick last week. The girl on the phone saying blue crabs not in season. Nothing but lies from this place. Becareful if you order seafood from them. They will put it in a greasy plastic bag that looks like a doggie bag. This place clearly has no crab supplier. Someone told me that they buy their crab legs from Sams club.
