We were in in the area for a ski vacation and needed a place to have my birthday celebration. This place was an excellent choice. Our server was the best! He was fast and courteous. He was very knowledgeable about the menu. The place is very nice. We were in a small side room with only a few tables so it made for a peaceful atmosphere. They have beautiful paintings throughout the restaurant. The fresh hot bread is amazing. I could not stop at just one, of course I probably should have but it was my birthday. I had the land which was good. We also ordered the Crab Imperial, and Crab cakes. They give a lot of crab with their dishes. If the owner's going to continue to operate this restaurant, the least he can do is familiarize himself with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 instead of demanding that service dog handlers' show him their "certification." The ADA website states: "Covered entities may not require documentation, such as proof that the animal has been certified, trained, or licensed as a service animal, as a condition for entry. There are individuals and organizations that sell service animal certification or registration documents online. We've been here twice in the past six months, visiting the area from our home in south central PA, for antiquing. We really like this place. The service and food is great. Great atmosphere and appearance. Tables set nicely with linen, etc. I had the turkey avocado club and it was real turkey! Not deli meat. That alone gets 5+ stars. It came with two slices of multigrain bread, toasted, lettuce and tomato. It was quite large. And a house salad. My friend got the grilled chicken Caesar salad and she said it was delicious. We Tried the new menu for late lunch today and it was fabulous. Wife had cream of mushroom soup as a starter followed by a chicken sandwich that was huge and delicious. I had the French Onion Soup followed by the new "parmigiano reggiano" spaghetti and added their beef veal sausage meatballs for $6 up charge. Definitely worth it. We love Bistro 11 it's our local favorite. They have all the old standby favorites still on the menu plus several new additions. Plus a wonderful Mother's Day Menu for Sunday too! Inconsistent is the best way to describe Bistro 11. This is our third time here and both times 2 & 3 were underwhelming, to say the least. Second visit was husband and me again at lunchtime on a Saturday over the holidays. They were somewhat busy, but not terribly so. However, the table of 2 seated about 15 minutes after us got their entrees before we even got our salads. There was a large party in the back room that also arrived after us (~20 mins or so) who were being served food before we got our salads either. The food on visit 2 was good, but since we waited 53 minutes for it, we were kind of over the whole experience. Visit #3 we came on a Thursday evening with a party of 8. We expect some delays with that to a degree, but yeesh- this visit was probably about a 4 out of 10. We ordered the crab dip again and asked for old bay when ordering since we knew it needed it. It didn't come with it. Asked for it 2 more times and it still never came. Literally when finishing our last 2 bites, it arrived. Gee, thanks. Not to mention we were brought an extra baguette that we didn't request, but were charged for on the check. #notcool Our waitress was kind, but she was new and very overwhelmed. The owner/manager/whomever is in charge should keep a close eye on new servers to make sure they're okay when serving larger parties on a busy week night. There were a LOT of problems with service. * Some of our party never got their apps. * We never got our salads. * Waitress offered to bring them after we got our entrees. Instead we asked her to just box them up with dressing on the side. We had ordered Caesar salads. The ones we took home (& didn't notice until we were home) were garden salad with a vinaigrette (that we never would've ordered) on the side. * Drinks were forgotten. * Waters were only refilled once. To be fair she came back with water another time, but no one needed any at that time. * No dessert was offered. Husband ordered the chicken Chesapeake and the chicken was not done. Sent it back and he ordered a crab cake instead. The crab cake was good, fries were not limp this time, but had a an off flavor. I got the crab imperial and it was good. Less saucy than any crab imperial I've ever had, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Roasted veg on side were good though some bits were burnt. One other item of note that I didn't mention before; there is no salt and pepper on the table. To me that's a sign of a pretentious chef who thinks their food doesn't need s&p, which would be fine if it didn't actually NEED it. But everything I've had here has been under seasoned and is in definite need of additional seasoning. Either taste the food you're putting out and make sure it is actually seasoned properly or be like any other restaurant and put the damn stuff on the table! And this isn't just my opinion. Others in our party said the clam chowder needed more seasoning, one had the chicken and gnocchi and called it flavorless and unmemorable. There is a lot of potential for this place. The ambiance is nice, but they need to get it together. I'm not excited to come back any time soon after these past few experiences. read more

I came in for lunch with my husband today. It was our anniversary, and we wanted to try something new. We arrived when it wasn't very busy and were greeted in a friendly manner and seated right away. The ambiance was nice. Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable. We ordered calamari as an appetizer but it was undercooked. I honestly wish I could have thrown it in an air fryer for 4 minutes, and it would have been perfect. I ordered clam chowder and a salad. The soup came out, and the clams were a little undercooked and gooey. After that, we waited about 40 minutes for our salads to come out. I am not sure what took so long since they were not busy when we arrived. The salads were fine, though. IMO The food was not worth the price tag, and I do not think we will return. read more

We're in from Lancaster, Pa. This restaurant was 11 miles from where we stayed. The food is amazing, it's worth the wait. It's a little bit of a wait but you don't know what staff they have, give them a chance. The bartender kept thanking us for our patience. The food came out good and hot. I had the trout almondine with broccolini and rice pilaf. My husband had the steak frites and fries, all was amazing. The only thing I didn't care for was the calamari, very rubbery. Got there at 8:45 on a Saturday with a closing time of 10 pm. Ordered escargot and pork belly. They were out of pork belly... fine. Ordered arancini instead. Both the escargot and arancini arrived within 5 minutes, before our drinks. Escargot was nice. Arancini was cold in the middle with the cheese not melted. Server came back and seemed annoyed and said that was the last order so they would heat it up (open fried food, can't be refried). Microwaved arancini returned, and we immediately noted a sour taste to it. Pulled a piece of meat out of it and noted a sour smell. Let the server know. Was told a manager would come by, never did, but it was removed from our check. Offered fresh bread and never received it. We ordered the seafood Cobb salad with champagne vinaigrette. The vinaigrette was very nice and the salad was fresh. Our server never returned until we were finished with our salad to ask if we wanted another drink. We were recommended here for lunch by the owner of Lehmans Mill, a lovely Antiques Shop nearby. We were so glad we followed her advice because our meals were excellent! I had the chicken salad on croissant. Loved the shoestring fries! The Mr is a connoisseur of fish & chips (after recently partaking of that delicacy numerous times in England) and he said Bistro 11 rivaled the best London had to offer! And that's saying something! Certainly the best restaurant that Hagerstown has. It was a shock to enter a restaurant in Hagerstown and to see it actually busy. Bustling even. It probably isn't be of the few places where you actually do need to get a reservation. The restaurant has a more open and airy feel from when it used to be HHBBQ. Gone are the booths. The ceiling seems to have been lowered and chandeliers have replaced the cold industrial lights. It really is a change for the better. Our server Zach was attentive, friendly and was of a level not normally seen in Hagerstown. There was a mistake with a lack of cutlery, but that was solved. The food was on the whole vastly superior to the normal food you'd expect from Hagerstown. The salads were fresh and well put together. The escargot was on par with the best. The entrees were somewhat of a let down that prevents a five star review. The sherry cream sauce with the ravioli was runny. It could do with being thicker and actually tasting of sherry. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good either. The BBQ sauce on the brisket was heavy in the ketchup. It didn't have any of the coffee flavor that was shown in the menu. The desserts were back on par. Not the best selection, but what there was full of flavor, and large in quality. A little work could make this the place in Hagerstown worthy of five stars. I ordered a take-out meal (Crispy Tofu Marsala) for the family. It was less than impressive. It was extremely bland (as if no seasonings had been used in its preparation) and the asparagus included in the roasted vegetables was stringy/fibrous and, hence, inedible. It was one thing to be disappointed with the meal, but the customer service upon following-up on the issue was even worse. I sent Bistro 11 a Facebook message the following day, but it was answered by a bot, and there was no human follow-up. I reached out a week later and spoke with the manager. She told me that I had waited too long and she couldn't do anything about it. I had to ask to speak to the owner. I was initially told he was not in, but after leaving my callback details, he called me a few minutes later and suggested that the quality of the food would have been compromised if it had been sitting for 45 minutes or more - except that the the food was sampled as soon as I arrived home, which was 25 minutes after purchasing it. There is a big difference between not enjoying a meal because of personal tastes (this is a normal part of experimenting with different cuisines and dishes) and a dish being substandard for presentation to anyone In any setting. Bistro 11's Crispy Tofu Marsala fits into the latter category. A little bit of seasalt, some fresh herbs, an authentic Marsala sauce made with a high quality wine, and proper preparation of the vegetables would have done the trick and elevated the dish to the extent that it would still have been flavorful even a couple of hours after preparation - and I'm no chef. read more

Will never go back for dinner. Food was not near as good and service was poor. I had a tofu dish and if you have ever eaten tofu you know it doesn't have any flavor and takes the flavor of the spices or sauce served with it. Which wasn't enough to even eat half the dish. My husband had duck, with had no flavor and he thought was fried. The salads were pre made and cold. The server did not even acknowledge we didn't eat much of our meal. Lots of natural light emanate from the floor to ceiling windows. Ample sized attractive outdoor patio appointed with sun umbrellas complimented the property. I ordered fried green tomatoes battered in a cornmeal batter served with a remoulade sauce that was fabulous. Another evening I had the french onion soup which was hearty & delectable. Lots of gooey Gruyère cheese atop a complex beef based bouillon, onions & French baguette. I also had the mushroom ravioli in a sherry cream sauce that was not overly swimming in sauce. It was just a nice base of sauce that was decadently rich but overwhelming. My friend had the risotto primavera which she loved.
