The bartenders are always friendly and the service is quick . The music is usually a sort of open mike night, but you will usually find the same musician(s) there every time. They are definitely attempting to create a hippie lounge atmosphere, and the clients follow que. It is a comfortable scene in here usually. Aside from the main bar room, there is an additional area in the back to dine in a bit more privacy. The menu selections and drinks are overpriced. The food is okay, nothing spectacular, my favorite item is the red bean hummus. If your looking for a casual night out downtown First Cap is a good pick.

Other places are catching up with adding Troegs and a few Victory bottles, which is GREAT, but none can match the fun (albeit a little stagnant at times) cooler of craft beer from California to PA. I can see how a first timer can see it as being a bit chaotic, but don't let that stop you- ask anyone at the bar for help and they'll flag the bartenders for you. Live music via a great group of local musicians on Monday and a variety of acts the rest of the week. I hear the burgers are great, too.

Mmmm mmm! This place was good, if not, decent! I visited a pen shop in York and this was nearby and…read morethe food looked delicious so why not?!? As soon as we stepped in, we were greeted. We went for lunch and it was not very busy so that was nice. We asked if we could eat outside and we were able to nab a seat there. We were seated a high table which was cool because we had a clear view of the street but was able to maintain staying in our little food bubble. When it came to order, we ended up ordering the Loaded Nachos for an appetizer and I ordered the Chicken Chesapeake with a baked potato and onion rings. I did order a drink but for the life of me, I can't remember which one. Please blame my foodie mind! (Haha!) The Loaded Nachos were good filled with white cheddar cheese sauce, tomato, jalapeno, black beans salsa, sour cream and chicken. It was good and the chicken was nicely seasoned and succulent. It was not chewy which is sometimes how chicken or any meat can be especially, when added to an appetizer like nachos. Unfortunately, I think that my biggest disappointment of this lunch was the Chicken Chesapeake. It came with a chicken breast, a 5 oz jumbo lump crab cake and mornay sauce. The chicken breast was just okay, it tasted bland as I think that maybe a little bit of salt and pepper could have helped. The jumbo lump crab cake was....okay, it was topped with the mornay sauce that was very tasty but the crab cake itself just fell apart. I didn't feel as though there was any structure to it and that with the amount of sauce on the crab cake and then the crab cake being too tender that it just falls apart...it wasn't a good mix. It felt like the crab cake was swimming in the sauce at the end, unfortunately. The mornay sauce tasted great with the mixture of cheeses so I really appreciated that. Besides the mornay sauce, the onion rings were another big favorite of mine. They were perfectly seasoned and crispy. I really liked the batter on the onion rings as I think it was executed perfectly and they helped to save the rest of the dish. Altogether, I'd enjoyed my experience at this restaurant. While one dish was lacking, the appetizer and my drink weren't. The prices were alright, a little steep but nothing I couldn't handle. The customer service was also really good as our waiter was kind and helped us with whatever we needed. If I'm ever back in the area, I would definitely come back again to try other things off the menu.

Last Sunday, my husband and I were driving home to Baltimore from the Finger Lakes when a World Cup…read moregame we were invested in was close and exciting. We were just outside York, so we decided to stop in town to watch the end of the game. I think I searched "sports bar" or "bar with TV" on Yelp and found White Rose. We found street parking nearby (it was a Sunday afternoon) and wandered in. We found two seats at the bar and sat down. Now, we really didn't need much: a TV playing the World Cup, a few beers, and some friendly service. We almost got all three at White Rose. Their beer selection was very standard for sports bar, and we ordered a couple (I had a PBR). The service at the bar was friendly and fast. Unfortunately, it was the TVs themselves that gave us problems. They have two in the bar area and both were playing the World Cup. So the problem? This was new for me, but both of the TVs had incredibly obstructed views even when seated at the bar. (This was even after a woman sitting at the bar who wasn't watching the game offered to move seats with us so we could try to have a better view. She saw us struggling.) The one on the wall behind the bar was the obvious one to watch. Unfortunately, at least 4 or 5 seats at the end of the bar can't see that TV around the enormous wine glass rack that hangs from the ceiling to the right of the TV. I could see maybe half of that TV. There was another TV hanging from the ceiling over some tables to the left. I could see about a half of that TV too, because they have - inexplicably - light fixtures that hang from the ceiling in front of the TV. We were craning our necks in the weirdest ways and basically staring right above the guy's head sitting next to us (I think he might have thought we were staring at him). I can't speak to the food or any drinks other than standard beers, but I can say that the obstructed TVs make it a place I would not return again for the purpose of watching a sports event. Granted, they were busy, and we didn't have our choice of seats, and it might be a great bar to just hang out at. But as a sports bar, it was a complete flop for me.

For every time we've dined here, we've had a reservation and still had to wait about an hour to receive our entrees. The one star knockoff is purely due to lack of speedy service and long wait times for food. Otherwise, the mansion is absolutely gorgeous, and has seasonal menus, so there is always something new to offer each time you visit. They have a unique seasonal cocktail menu, and numerous different types of alcohol/bottles. (I would recommend getting a prosecco glass with cranberry juice in it!) They give out two different pieces of bread, both very good, and they also give out a "bite of the night" or something similar to it, which is a unique small bite full of flavor from the kitchen.

I'd really like to give 5 stars for the taste of the food but it wasn't warm enough when it was served. I asked about the soups and was offered a taste of both which I thought was great. When the samples came they weren't hot. Barely warm. I ordered one of the soups and told the server it wasn't warm enough and asked to make sure it was warm when it came out. It wasn't. Butternut squash creamy soup with a piece of smoked salmon in top. Interesting. Very creamy but I couldn't taste the butternut squash. It was nondescript but since I'd tasted both and didn't like the other I felt I did have to order one. The smoked salmon added saltiness and actually made it nice but I think you'd have to look forward the squash. And, it was only mildly warm. Husband ordered the paella. I tasted it, of course. The fish was overcooked, the scallop I had was sweet and cooked well. The rice was decent, but, instead of the rich saffron scented taste I expected, this tasted of chicken broth a la rice a roni. And whereas it was good, it was nothing special. He said the shrimp and mussels were good. I ordered Tuscan shrimp which was billed as shrimp and ravioli in sun dried tomato cream sauce with spinach. There were 4 good size ravioli covered in a cream sauce- not Alfredo- and there were bits of sun dried tomato sprinkled on it. Tasty but not sun dried tomato cream sauce. There are 5 or 6 good size shrimp that were delicious and cooked just right. This was a delicious dish and would have been 5 stars if it were hot. It was warm, not wArm enough though. Same for the paella. And everyone at our end of the table said the same thing. Neighbors had Mac and cheese with meatballs which they said was ok, chicken cacciatore which they said was covered in red pepper sauce which they said was good but that the chicken was dry. Didn't talk to anyone else about their meals but the chief complaint was that nothing was hot. And the service was uneven- we were served a long time before the people next to us were served their meals. This place is a venue for weddings and parties. One would think they could keep large numbers of meals hot and out at the same time. I would like to give 5 stars for my shrimp dish's taste. My husband said his paella was a 3.5 But serving the meals at low temp just knocks it down a few pegs. Dinner included a very small piece of crouton with tomato topping. I guess it was bruschetta bouche amuse. Tasty but tiny. The servers were very nice and I think they were doing the best they could. Not their fault. Lovely ambiance but expensive. For the prices, I expect hot food.
