Kitchen closes 10pm m-f 11pm sat sun. Does have 'all day menu' for after hours. You might have to wait as bar keep does prep - worth it. Unlike other area bars - has bag snacks at reasonable price. No cash tabs- does credit card table. Pours are traditional. Good selection, quality quantity and value. Bar seats ~ 30. 5 duce tops. Game room darts - pinball, w/o pool table. Traditional tap room setting. Bar staff consistent and friendly, knows you name Kinda place. Eclectic mix of patrons. Great for date night. Nightly food specials. Has a larger back room for events and bands. Security is great friendly yet firm. Despite the name. Expect to show ID. Staff has no problem to 'cut off' those who need it. Was listed in 2024 in the top 1k 'dive bars' in the USA. Has event nights worth checking out. For this reason my go to neighborhood bar. Ample parking. Could use a bathroom update - very much needed. read more

This used to be my favorite spot to go to. Over the years, it has exceedingly gone downhill. The staff has become condescending as the granddaughters took over and clearly have no idea what they are doing, considering their lack thereof rapport toward clientele explains a lot why this place has become trash. Furthermore, the "security" didn't scan my ID until after I had been served and sitting there for over an hour, only doing so when I got up to utilize the restroom. Furthermore, he was seen partaking in and being served alcohol by the staff and select few patrons way past Pennsylvania's legal limit of 2 am. Get it together, guys. read more

A great place to get a drink and hang for a while! It's your typical dive bar but the games are pretty cool, and the bartenders are nice.

Great old, historic (dive) bar. One of the best Roast Beef sandwiches I've ever had. Slather it with horseradish and their house red sauce! You can ever get one after the kitchen is closed. They make them right at the bar for you (and with a hot ham and cheese). Cheesesteak is also good. I prefer mine without marinara. Great wings. I like to mix a couple different sauce together. They have karaoke with Barcrawler on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9. Goes until at least 1am, usually later. Live bands in their big room on select weekends, and the occasional DJ night in there, too. read more

When this bar was first kicking, many travelers from Philly to Lancaster would easliy have around 65 taverns to stop at and fist a beer or two. Now you might think pishhhh- what ev but the road trip is only 68.90 miles and today the trip would only take an hour or so. But on horse and buggy It makes total sense. This Tavern has been frolicking since 1797. This check-in was by accident, you sort of drive through the ruff part of Lancaster and down hill you see to your left a Yellow sign with a Finch perched on top. (I smell vodka) A farmer did not have to be able to read, just go to the tavern with the yellow birdie "Distelfink Inn". Early German settlers in Pennsylvania thought of the distlefink, or goldfinch, as the bird of happiness and good luck for all. So of course I needed to indulge my curiosity. Now I pretty much fit in anywhere Men love me and Women want to be me. Now that I got that off my chest lets carry on. (that was a joke I am just being " sneering" seriously look up my walmart pic I posted via yelp...I can't even tell what gender I am, Blonde Pat FTW I am really not that concieded) I walked in and the pool hall and it was packed. I think the bubble over my head said "City Slicker" I park at the bar and notice everyone is smoking! This is a throw back to 1959. Hipsters would not be able to blend in here everyone had a flannel. They don't know the term PBR I don't think any of them even text. The juke box was playing, the bar maid was pouring, and I of course I had to bum a cigg (with a nice tip I am giver not a taker) just because I can! I was admiring historical pictures on the wall of the tavern. A regular approached me and shared with me some other interesting photos and articles. He introvertly apologized for bothering me, but thought I would be interested in seeing more. I told him how much I appreciated it and learned that the tavern had a ton of character "My town is your Town" is the attitude I received this night. The crowd did seem to look rough around the edges but in all reality they were gentle friendly souls. A regular sitting in the corner asked if I was taking a picture of his flannel, of course I said yes I am going to steal it and post it on ebay, he had a soft but roughness laugh about him. I told him I was admiring the art work on the wall. He gave me a quick interpretation of what he thought it meant. In German it read "Ich Hab Genug" He told me "I don't speak German but if I did I think it means I had enough, look at him covering his drink and the distressed look upon his face" I thought to myself wow to think how many people pass this place being judgmental and not partaking in this kind of energy that the Dirty Ol' Tavern has been giving off for over the past 200 years. If you are a Historian lover like me get here now! Or if you simply enjoy spirits and good company I highly recommend a visit or two. If you are a ghost hunter, get your butt and evp equipment set up. Some of the locals shared the "Ghost sightings" I believe her name is Elizabeth (don't quote me I was on my 4th Vodka Tonic) Great bar food as well. One of the regulars thought it would be a nice touch if they did serve German food........hmmmmm owning this bar in the future just may be on my wish list. Wow. What has happened to this place? My husband and I walked in after maybe a year's hiatus on a Saturday night around 8:00. What used to be a happening place full of friendly faces was now down to about 4 people, one of which was the owner, just sitting there staring at us as if we were outcasts when we walked in. We went in because they have great cheap food, or at least they used to. Their kitchen wasn't even open at 8:00 on a Saturday night. We had 1 beer (which was room temperature) so as not to offend anyone and then left. Disappointing and sad. This used to be a fun place to go. read more

Great place to have a beer and unwind. This place also has the best roast beef sandwich in the Lancaster area!

We have come here for 20 years for guber ball... food prices are ridiculous and booze prices are also ridiculous! And all we've gotten so far since 1:00 this after noon is one freaking basket of guber balls! Won't be back again! read more

Atmosphere is not for everyone, but I love this place. Cheap pool good specials and great roast beef sandwiches.
