The wings were also great, as were the combo baskets! Everything is very reasonably priced, especially considering the high price of everything these days! My wife and I have come here a few times in the past on our drive up to NY. Always order the Maryland crab cake platter. Was always satisfied with the "lump" crab cakes. NOT THIS TIME!!! Crab cakes looked like scraps of crab meat (or possibly from a can) with NO LUMP CRAB whatsoever. Broiled crab cakes were lukewarm, at best. Not much taste either. Tartar sauce was horrible. When we arrived at the restaurant we went into the "main" dining room where 2 servers were bullsh**ting with a customer and totally ignored us. We went to sit down at several different tables because 4 of the tables had not been cleared from previous customers. We then went to the "smaller" dining room and sat down and waited 5+ minutes before a server came to our table and was unprepared (NO MENUS). Took our drink orders and came back with our drinks 5+ minutes later. Still no menus! She the came back with menus a couple of minutes later. We placed our order and waited 15+ for our food. As I explained above, the food was not even close to the quality of food that we were accustomed to at this restaurant. I could go on and on regarding our dissatisfaction, but I'll leave it at that. I've recently relocated to Hagerstown and Colonial came highly recommended. From the outside, and the inside, it looked, shall we say, rather weatherworn? But if you are looking for food and not just ambiance, this place might surprise you in a good way. The service can sometimes be spotty if they are understaffed, but generally they do a decent job serving our needs. The burgers are very good. The fish and chips were not so good...(definitely tasted from frozen) The biggest surprise though was their prime rib which I will say ranked among the best prime ribs I've enjoyed at any restaurant! perfectly medium rare and tender! oh my yes! If they have it when you go, this is their best thing on the menu. And their fried oysters are definitely worth ordering too! We went there at about 4:30 on a Saturday. There were four of us. The place was clean and comfortable and not too loud. The menu is outstanding. We loved the appetizers we tried. Everybody loved their dinner choices. The service was on point. The onion rungs and cole slaw were particularly good. I had a cheeseburger sub and ut was great and the sub roll did not disappoint. We are on a road trip and the hotel had the Colonial as a recommendation. We're so glad that we stopped in! As others have mentioned, the building and the Inn associated with it are comfortably Rustic. Upon entering the small foyer there are two doors that brought to mind the Red & Blue capsule choices in the movie 'Matrix' - one door lead directly into the (sports) bar and the other into the restaurant. There was a decent crowd of Locals & Regulars for a Saturday around 7PM. You can seat yourself at any table in the restaurant or bar. Both rooms have TV's and the NFL Wildcard games were playing which added to the atmosphere with each play and interception. The staff were all Great and friendly. There was a full menu and our meals were delicious, hot, and plentiful. The Drinks were perfect as well. We were in no hurry and that worked in our favor having time to chill and take it all in between courses. A casual weekday night, rainy but warm. The Colonial has been around as long as I can remember and I wanted to take my son to support a local business. Parking lot was full (which surprised me a little) but that's usually a good sign. We entered to a nearly full restaurant, 3 empty but dirty tables. The sign says, "seat yourself". Since no tables were clean, we hovered for a few mins hoping to be acknowledged in ANY way by the staff. 3 passes by, 3 different waitresses...not a word. So, we saw another table of newly seated patrons having the dirty dishes and food cleared off their table...we followed suit to sit at a dirty table, hoping it would at least get us a nod from someone. Negative. We sat at the dirty table for exactly 10 minutes (timed on my trusty watch) giving them time to catch up, serve others and get a breath. Not a single glance came our way. Nobody said "hey, I'm sorry for the wait...we'll clear your table in a minute" or "welcome, here are some menus to look at, we'll be back in a few to clean the table and take your order". If you want a trip back to 1980 (both looks and the smell) and non-existent service, THIS is the place for you! Bring some Lysol and a cleaning rag, pack your own food and you'll have a great time here. The sign in the door might as well read "F@$k Yourself" because that's the vibe you'll get here. read more

I first started coming here for lunch when I worked at the Hagerstown airport in 1999. It was my first introduction to a Buffalo chicken salad, and I've never had a better one since. The chicken is grilled just crispy enough, the buffalo sauce is spicy, but not too overpowering... the lettuce is crisp and the additional vegetables are abundant. Going as often as I did, I'm pretty sure I tried many other things on the menu. None of them stand out as remarkable like the salad, but I always enjoyed my meals and the hospitality. read more

The crap soup is my favorite soup. I could eat the shaved hot roast beef sandwich everyday with the best gravy I have ever tastes. The fresh cut fries are the very best around ( not limp/just right ). I have not ordered anything that I don't like. It can get a bit crowded because it isn't a large establishment but the food is WORTH waiting for. The price is just right. I am not a drinker of alcohol but the Sweet Tea is YUMMY. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND stopping by Tuesday through Saturday and taste for yourself. Had a nice lunch there. I got the Reuben the corn beef was awesome.....sliced thin, not fatty but melt in your mouth. I also got a cup of MD crab soup it was very good. Mom and my husband got burgers. they were a tad over cooked than what they wanted but not so much that they didn't enjoy them. they both said they were good. And the fries they are excellent. Went there on a Friday night for dinner Restaurant side was mostly full.. Put order in for a Reuben and a burger. The wait time was outrageous. Over 45 min before we got any food. Our waitress was running through the place, back and forth, never came to table and said anything about what was going on with the food, and was almost avoiding us by going by so fast. Most tables around us did not have their food either . Everyone looking around at each other. I guess I would have thought she would have said something, even when finally bringing the food, no apology for the wait time? Sad.. It seems like the food is good, but the help, needs help.
