While passing through Fredericksburg with my wife, we were ready for a good German meal. Checking Yelp, we discover that on a Tuesday evening, most of the German restaurants in town have already closed at 3pm. That's when Otto's stood out to us. Not only was it the first restaurant to show up on Yelp (very highly rated), but also it was OPEN. While it may have been an accident that we chose Otto's, it was a lucky break. They were awesome. It was very busy, so we had to eat on the patio, but our table had plenty of shade and a nice breeze from a wall fan. It's a block off the main drag, so you don't have to put up with lots of traffic going by. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food didn't take too long to come out. The selections were fairly extensive. The food quality, portion sizes and flavor were spot on. We also highly recommend the Black Forest cake.

We stopped here because it was close to our Airbnb, and we're so glad we did. The restaurant is absolutely adorable! We ordered a couple of drinks and their famous pretzel. The pretzel was delicious with great flavor, we just expected it to be served warm, but it wasn't. The drinks were also excellent and paired perfectly with our visit. We sat out on the patio while it lightly sprinkled outside, and it made for such a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. It was the perfect place to unwind. Based on our experience, we'd definitely come back to try their dinner menu. This is a great spot if you're looking for good drinks and a charming ambiance.

This has been our annual go to restaurant every time we visit Fredericksburg. From the service to the food, everything is excellent. It is a small location so definitely make reservations in advance. The duck schnitzel is always a must have and last year they had a beef shank that was absolutely delicious but this year , it was replaced by the lamb shank which was another great dish. This year we got the chocolate torte for the first time and unfortunately it wasn't anything special. It tasted just like a torte you can get from the grocery store. However, the waiter asked us how we liked it and we just said it was ok. He ended up taking it off our check without us asking which was super nice and unnecessary but highly appreciated.

This was a very yummy dinner in downtown Fredericksburg! We visited after our wine tour and were excited to try some German food. They were pretty booked up but as it was cold outside they let us switch our reservation from patio to bar seating. We really enjoyed our meal. The waiters were very attentive and happy to talk through the menu with us. Ultimately we decided on a pretzel as our appetizer, with lamb chops as our entree to share and a side of kasespatzle. The pretzel was warm and a nice size and we thoroughly enjoyed the beer cheese. We finished the cheese halfway through the pretzel and the waiters were kind enough to bring us another one. Next for the kasespatzle - which from my understanding is the German version of mac and cheese. It was very tasty and hearty! More filling than I expected. The lamb chops were the crown jewel of the night - rich and succulent and paired so well with the asparagus. The chef was kind enough to make another lamb chop for us as she saw how the meat shrunk while cooking it. The meal was so tasty and a good size for sharing! We were very full by the end. I'm so glad we tried this place! It would be perfect for date night, a meeting with coworkers or family dinner. I like that they have an intimate inside area as well as the outdoor patio. Check this place out!

We went on a Sunday evening after all the shops in the area closed. Lots of good with this restaurant and a few things I didn't prefer. Wine list is small but has a good selection. We enjoyed all our selections by the glass. The pretzel was perhaps our favorite. Buttery and hot. Perfectly seasoned. The spatzle soup was good but not hot. The clams were bitter because of the beer. Portion was big for an appetizer but I'm sorry to say it was so bitter it became unpleasant. I ordered the duck for my main dish and it was fried really hard and was tough to eat. The duck was way overcooked and dry for my liking. The spatzle and accompaniments were good though. My wife had the Otto salad which was beautifully presented and she enjoyed all the flavors and textures. Well built. Our server was friendly and very personable. Service overall great.

We pulled into town and found this place on Yelp. The reviews caught my attention--especially because of the duck strudel--so we decided to give it a try. Several reviews mentioned that reservations weren't necessary, but I would definitely recommend making one. We went on a Friday night, and while we were able to get a table by arriving early, the place filled up quickly and was fully booked during and after our visit. For an appetizer, we had the schnitzel balls with mustard sauce--melt-in-your-mouth delicious! I ordered the duck strudel, and it was absolutely out of this world. My husband had the bratwurst with sauerkraut, and he loved it. I paired my meal with a German beer called Reissdorf, which was crisp and flavorful--highly recommend it. The only downside was that we didn't save room for dessert, which I definitely regret! As for the service, it felt a little off. The staff seemed rushed and not particularly attentive. My water glass went unfilled several times, and I probably would have ordered another beer if someone had checked in. Once the restaurant filled up, it also got quite loud. I'd suggest they consider some sound-dampening solutions like foam under the seats or at the bar area. That said, the overall atmosphere was really nice, and they have a charming patio with fans--perfect for warmer evenings. Overall, we had a great experience, and I'd absolutely come back to try more of the menu. Next time, we'll start with dessert!

The food was AMAZING!! So delicious! I recommend the Steak Weekly Special and for appetizer you can't go wrong with the sauerkraut balls! I ordered the sangria and I liked it! Staff were extremely kind and helpful! The ambiance was lovely but also intimate and cozy! Can't wait to come back!

Visit - July 26, 2025 We were a group of 9 visiting from out of town & Otto's is one of the places in town that took line reservations for group size so kudos to them. They did a good job of taking care of us even when there was a hiccup trying to get us seated. Food- to start off we all shared the flammkuchen & the pretzel Und Bierkäse. Both great starters. For our entree, most of us ordered the duck schnitzel which was a HIT. The duck on top of the red cabbage & spaetzle ... a pairing I didn't know I needed. Otto's is will definitely be a place I would recommend if you're ever in the area.

I dont know what it is but I feel the service and desserts in texas have been letting me down :( The main server dealing with us did not look happy. She gave us everything that we needed. But it was just unfriendly and robotic. Maybe because we dont drink . I'm not sure. There was another girl serving in the area that attended to us here and there and she was much more friendlier. When we entered the host was super nice and sat us down. Our server promptly took our drinks order and appetizer. As soon as our food came out we were fighting flies. There was a fan on the wall but it did nothing. I remember asking my husband I wonder whether they have a candle or one of those table fan things to shoo flies away. He said I'm sure if they did they would put it on the table. Honestly we just took turns eating while the other shooed flies away. Our mains order were taken soon and it came out in good time as well. Right about this time the outdoor seating started filling up and a quarter of our way throughthe mains the server asked if we could use one of those fans and we both said YES! It helped alot. We were thinking why it wasnt a standard on all the outdoor tables. We ordered the sauerkraut balls and the flammkuchen to start. Wow were the balls a bomb of flavour really enjoyed them. We had the lamb, schnitzel and wurst plates for mains. . The lamb was so good. The schnitzel and spaetzle were good but the sides were too sweet. Not only was the cabbage sweet but also the cherries on top. For me personally it was too much. My husband liked his wurst plate I ordered the citrus cheesecake to go as I was a bit stuffed.. it was just a little cupcake cheesecake and the meringue was flat and runny. After going to domingo at the river walk and ottos I dont get why independent non chain restaurants dont do something a little more with desserts that aren't what you would get in a "fancy" chain like the cheesecake factory.

After a nice day visiting downtown Fredericksburg, we stopped in at Otto's for dinner. Being that it was warm in December this year, eating in the patio ended up being very comfortable. The service was great and the food was pretty good. I'm pretty particular about my schnitzel, and the duck schnitzel did not disappoint. While it was good I think next time I'll try the regular pork schnitzel. Paired with an old fashioned, it made for a good night. My wife really liked her scallops too.

Everything was so good! We started with the bread plate - yum beet jam- and sauerkraut balls- so tangy and crisp. The duck schnitzel was the best entree. I think the cherries and cabbage really enhanced it!

Otto's was so good that it changed my mind about German food. I came in skeptical as the last time I'd had German food it was mediocre, but I left wanting to try more in the future! With the cozy and warm interior and the attentive service, I'd especially love to come back to Otto's. The wurst plate was some of the best German sausage I had (especially compared to the other spots I tried in Fredericksburg). I could tell the meat was different by the chew and texture it had. I never thought I'd enjoy a wurst so much. The sauerkraut and potatoes were amazing as well. The duck schnitzel was very good as well! It paired very well with the red cabbage and the sauce. It was definitely lighter in flavor than I was expecting, but when combined with the wurst plate really balanced the meal out. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed Otto's and would definitely come back again!

Went to Otto's back during Labor Day weekend and the place was PACKED. Thankfully the front of house was able to seat us at one of their last tables after some wait time. I had never been to Fredericksburg and was glad we were able to try out this restaurant when heading over our Uber told us this was a classic and popular place. I tried the duck schnitzel and it was very flavorful and perfectly crispy. I also tried the beet butter and bread which was pretty tasty as well. The service was pretty quick for how busy the place was and we were seated outside which was actually really cute and homey. I would definitely like to go back and check out more of their offerings!

Don't come here unless you have a reservation. They cannot sit walk ins which is poor management.

Are there heaters on the patio?

They had patio heaters working when I was there in December.

Why I cannot find pork shank on the menu?

The menu at Otto's was small and not traditional- it is a well curated restaurant with less than 10 entree offerings when we were there. I don't think this for everyone but we absolutely loved it.

Is there a long wait on Saturday evenings since they dont take reservations? I am Wanting to come here for dinner but also not wanting to wait an hour.

Yes, normally on a long wait but stop by as you never know.

What is the average price for dinner and, say, two cocktails? Trying to get a price range since we have a larger group.

$75+. Depending on which meals and drinks you choose.

Does Otto's serve german pancakes?

Their menu changes a bit seasonally. Their current offerings of pancakes are Lemon Ricotta during Sunday brunch.

There's inside and outside seating as well as bar. You enter and they hand you the menus. Despite the red neon order here sign right next to the entrance counter, it's not readily apparent that you do indeed order there. And I noticed it wasn't just us waiting for someone to come take our order as we waited. You seat yourself so unless they tell you directly to order at the counter you could miss it. So when the red neon sign finally clicked in my head, I went over to order. But while I was ordering two more parties came up and asked if they needed to order there. So maybe some more clarity up front outside the sign haha I ordered the Cali burger, my son had a burger, and they had a fajita special that his mom ordered. We also ordered a pretzel. Obviously being a pub they had beers. Non/alcoholic was a limited assorted of coke fair. Only unsweetened tea. No lemonade. Pretzel was soft and delicious. My son's mom loved the fajitas and the beans that came with them. The burgers were also really good. Bread nice and soft. Patties a good thickness. We all enjoyed what we had. No fries though. You get chips for your potato fix. The staff was also very friendly. It wasn't too loud in there and we were able to talk easily. If you're hungry don't pass them by.

The staff were very friendly so no issues there. We went in on a Friday at 6:00 pm and were the only ones dining. Shortly after one other couple came in. Not sure if it's this dead because summer is over or because it was a hot day but we were surprised how empty it was for a Friday evening. The menu itself isn't bad. No appetizers on the menu but a decent selection of entrees so no issues there. I order the NY strip with grilled Brussel sprouts and garlic mashed potatoes. I'll start with the positive - the steak was ordered medium-rare and it was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, there was just very very little flavor or seasoning to the steak - it wasn't bad but I wouldn't order it again. The Brussel sprouts were huge - and I expected they would be 'hard' in the center (as often happens with larger Brussel sprouts) but I was pleasantly surprised that they were perfectly cooked and tender. Unfortunately they were also very under seasoned. One of them had an oil or seasoning on it and it was delicious but the rest had none and lacked flavor. The garlic mashed potatoes were the highlight! Potato skins in them; nice rich and smooth texture and perfectly flavored. Best part of the meal! We also tried the steak tacos which had thin strips of steak in corn tortillas with corn, a sauce and cilantro and came with black beans and rice. The strips of steak were excellent - slightly charred (perfectly) on the outside and flavorful. The sauce had a wonderful flavor to it. The tortillas were very soft and moist. The tacos were very good. The black beans were black beans and the rice was rice - neither were bad and neither were great - no special flavor. Would we come back? If we were staying at the property again we might go back. The convenience is their main selling point. That said, Main Street in Fredericksburg with literally dozens of restaurants is only 3 minutes away. If The Club could 'up' their seasoning, they would certainly be worthy of 4 stars.

The meal went downhill from there. The coleslaw wasn't actually bad - it was mayo based and fairly creamy - very creamy - actually too creamy. The garlic mashed potatoes were just not good. They were dry, not smooth and the flavor was definitely off. We each only had two bites. The sweet potato fries were waffle fries and they were rubbery - not crispy at all. The brewery was the first place I ever had a scotch egg, my dad would get a small beer flight, maybe we'd get a brat, he made it fun. I'm pretty sure it had just opened back then. We got into town, checked in at the Trueheart Hotel, and immediately walked to the brewery because I was so excited. I probably went in to this with the unrealistic expectation that it would be the same as when I was a kid. It had a great start. The hostess was nice, and our server was, too. I wish we had gotten to sit in the back room with the long tables, We started with the beer flight and a scotch egg. The beer flight was okay. I was expecting really good German beers, mind-blowing, but these were just fine. A pale ale, an IPA, a flat porter were on the list, just not a memorable selection, although the red ale was good. The flight was a good price, though. For our appetizer, I wasn't expecting such a small scotch egg for $9. I mean, it was really small. I've been to several places around my area for scotch eggs, and they're usually $11-12 for two and they're properly sized. But we're on vacation and I wanted nostalgia so fine. It was delicious, and the creole mustard the scotch egg comes with was divine. More on that later. For our meals we tried both schnitzels. I was disappointed they don't have spaetzle, I'm pretty sure they used to. My boyfriend had the schinken and I had the jager. I don't like ham but his was infinitely better because of the gravy. The gravy on the jager schnitzel I got was heavy with some seasoning, maybe sage. It's all I could taste, and I couldn't just push the gravy off because my pork was fried to death. I barely ate any of mine. The sides we got (you get two per plate) were German potato salad, fries, onion rings, and vegetable medley. The fries and onion rings were great, especially when dipping in the creole mustard we saved from the scotch egg. The German potato salad is supposed to be sweet and sour and my boyfriend usually likes it, but this was way sweet, he wasn't a fan. The vegetable medley was good, but seemed really out of place as a side, normally with schnitzel you'd expect green beans or a salad or something, we got broccoli and squash. They did have a side salad, but it was $5. Not sure why a side salad couldn't just replace the two sides for no upcharge. I will say the rolls were awesome. At the end our server let us sit and hang out for a few minutes, he didn't rush us. We asked if they sell the creole mustard in bottles but they don't, so he said we could pay $5 for a togo container of it. We got probably a cup, so I was fine with that, I really loved it that much. We paid, I noticed he charged us $5 for tarter sauce that we didn't have, figured it was the only way to ring up the mustard. We left with our prized creole mustard. Cut to this weekend when we opened it to make a sandwich, and what we actually got was tarter sauce, so somewhere along the way he'd forgotten what we asked for. We live 200 miles from Fredericksburg, there's no fixing that, but maybe that's on me because I should have checked it. They really should sell bottles of that mustard, it's very good. Overall, it just wasn't the experience I was expecting. It's not the same, it's been over 30 years so I totally understand, and I did try to be fair with my critique. It wasn't great, it was just okay.
