First, we also had the Hot Honey, Pepperoni and Goat Cheese Pizza but it was placed on the first tier making the photo too dark. BUT, let me be clear. Whoever first imagined this combination? GENIUS! The honey isn't what you're thinking. It was thin in consistency, light even, a perfect amount of heat that was complemented by the glorious cupped and charred pepperoni. That pizza was the first to go, easily. But the other was fresh, light and probably went a long way in balancing all of those complex tastes. I'm a pizza grump, usually deferring and opting for old guard Greek pizza. But Otto's has won a place in my heart. And the family sized garden salad (salad dressing? YUM!) is perfect. Met my friend at Otto's for lunch. We each had a drink-a local beer for me, a house Margarita for Melissa. We shared 2 small pizzas which was plenty of food for our lunch and then some to take home. I liked the pizza with the roasted eggplant, zucchini, tomatoes, and roasted garlic. Otto's is located in the cute downtown area of Exeter with many cute shops to visit after your meal. There is parking across the street. We felt very welcome at Otto's and were not rushed, at all. We had excellent service from Rhonda. Will definitely return. read more

Visiting with friends in New England, I was told Otto's flagship restaurant is in Portland (ME, not OR), and they have really delicious pies. They also have a location in Boston's Logan Airport where I could get more for "the road". We ordered their Ricotta, Butternut Squash and Cranberry Pizza. Always open to trying new food combinations, I was All In. To compliment our pie, my beverage of choice was a local hard cider. Delish. The pie was SO GOOD! The flavors complimented each other as you can imagine. I was looking forward to getting one more slice before boarding my flight in Logan. I was torn between 3 and 4. The pros: The pizza is really, really good. The crust was super thin and crisp. The sauce and cheese both had a lot of flavor. The cons: I was there on a Wednesday evening. They were severely understaffed. Only 3 front-of-house staff covering the dining room, the bar and the patio. Making matters worse, the mix of clientele did not work on the evening we were there. On one side of us are loud local guys having drinks, on the other side is spray-tanned Exeter Karen with her shrieking preschooler and his brother who keeps spilling drinks. The kitchen messed up our order, but I have to say that they made things right. Credit where it's due. Next time I think I'll order takeout. read more

Stopped at Otto Exeter for lunch today, and had a fantastic pie. The restaurant offers two venues, one side is for takeout and pickup with some tables available. This is the side adjacent to the court yard (outdoor seating in nicer weather), and the former Green Bean restaurant. The other side offers more formal sit down service. As we did not have time, we ordered a pie and sat in the casual side. This is the first NH outpost for Otto. We met Alex, the owner who promised to make us our simple cheese pie and have it ready in 7 minutes. I was debating slices as we were short on time, but I hate to judge a venues pizza with reheated slices or anything more complicated than simple cheese pizza. He explained that Otto's classic cheese pizza has dollops of sauce on top. If you want more traditional, with sauce spread under the cheese, you need to order it "old school". We did just that, and it was fantastic. Being a NY pizza fan, this was about the closest to to the real deal that I've had in NH. The crust was perfect. Sauce was simple, but delicious and the cheese was the star of the show. This could be my new favorite pie in town. Alex, the owner, seems passionate about pizza and is excited about the big crowds and positive reception, but acknowledged they had some long waits on opening. I trust they now have that under control. Otto has many locations, and he took the time to explain how things started in Portland Maine and have grown to the franchise today. Don't wait to try this one. I'm looking forward to trying the other non-pizza dishes on the menu when I have time for a more leisurely meal. read more

Ordered the meatball sub for takeout. I was looking forward to it until I had my first bite, no sauce! A meatball sub without sauce is a bad hamburger flipped vertically with a lot of cheese, eh. If the roll had been buttered and treated like garlic bread it would have been better, but no it was just a dry sub roll with no sauce. The sauce makes a crusty dry bread delicious and an average meatball a lot better and worth coming back for. Nothing but a big letdown! Beware of the meatball sub with missing sauce! Very disappointed that i was CHARGED 22% on a TO GO order because i did not click "no tip" on the screen (mind you i left a few dollars in the tip jar prior to), when i questioned it the only thing they said was ..."It's how our machine is set up!" I am shocked to see some of these reviews. I went to Otto having tried their pies in South Portland and Logan Airport. The restaurant has only recently opened so I am sure they went through some growing pains, as all new places do. On the three times I have been to the Exeter location they have been swamped. After speaking with the owner, it was clear he was aware of the challenges, but was doing everything possible to address the challenges. On to the food ... I have no idea how anyone could rate this place anything but 5 stars. I have had whole pies, and slices .... In both cases I was very happy with the quality. Let's start with the mashed potato pizza .... Something that I would normally never order. This pie is just sublime. What stands out to me is the texture of the potato and the amazing crust. The pie is loaded with flavor without being heavy. The next pie was a pepperoni, goat cheese and hot honey. I only tried this because I had a slice in Portland previously. All I can say is WOW! Such a cool pizza! I absolutely loved it! Pepperoni was crispy on the edge and the honey was not overdone with just the right amount of sweet and heat. Lastly, I went back for a more simple pepperoni and hot honey. Again, cooked to perfection. Let me put this in perspective, my wife and I argued over who gets the leftovers ... that is the highest compliment I can imagine. One other thing, the owner and I spoke for several minutes. We talked pizza, and he shared his favorite hidden gems that he enjoys in the area. That also speaks volumes to me. He is open to other ideas and cares about his customers. I could not recommend this Otto location more. You get what you pay for, and remember, this is not a fast food pizza, quality takes time. I will add photos later. And, if you ask for extra, which just brings you to a normal amount of toppings, they charge you an arm and a leg. I'm not sure why, but I thought the sausage would be scrambled and brown, but it was sliced and not brown at all just gray so it was not appealing and the onions were just kind of raw on the top and not appealing and the crust got soggy after the first slice I ate. my son got the pepperoni hot honey cup goat cheese. That was pretty tasty but again it was a thin crust and the crust got soggy after we ate the first piece. My grandson got a small cheese pizza and that was actually the best one out of all of them lol. Their Greek salad was delicious. It was probably the best Greek salad I've had in a very long time. I eat a lot of pizza and frequent a lot of pizza places. I was really looking forward to going to auto as I've heard good things. I normally get a pepperoni and mushroom pizza which is a standard I use so I can tell what is good and what is not between restaurants. The pizza auto was the greasiest oiliest thing I've ever had, I ate three pieces and couldn't eat anymore and normally I can eat a 16 inch pie. When I mentioned this to the waitress, she said, "oh well that's pepperoni. It's very greasy". Well, why would you be serving fatty greasy pepperoni. We ordered a pizza for deliver at 6:05 this evening from OTTO"S in Exeter. The site said 30 to 40 minutes We paid on line including a $4.63 Service Fee and another $2 tip. We live on High St less than a MILE from the location. We waited and finally called at 7:25. Ottos said it was picked up a while ago by GRUBHUB so they could not help AT ALL. So I call GRUBHUB and after a few minutes they said the pizza was delivered and it would be outside your door on the ground. So after 90 minutes and $45 we get a pizza that was outside in 40 degree temperature on the ground for 45 minutes. YES it was COLD and STALE and no one cares.
