Have spent the last week here in Durango. We were given really good recommendations by our hotel and the Visitor Information Centre for breakfast, lunch and dinner - on morning 3, we discovered Oscar's and have only done breakfast here since. Four mornings of magnificent tasting, generously portioned breakfasts, and extraordinary service from all the staff; not only are they friendly, but they actually listen to your order, and make sure you get what you ask for; and very inexpensive. Being from 'downunder' we like our toast brown and eggs poached just past medium toward firm and not near raw and running all over the plate. This is the first we've enjoyed this true 'service excellence' from all staff at one restaurant. Long may Oscar's prosper. read more

What a gem! The breakfast was the best our family has had in years! The French toast, omelette, bacon and even the house made hot sauce were all stellar. The staff filled up our coffee at least 4 times and made us feel like we were the most important people there. Excellent, quick service and very enjoyable breakfast in Durango! Okay.. So, this place is not only charming with a train track and functioning choo-choo train all around the border of the ceiling but absolutely delicious! The service was also wonderful with my coffee mug constantly filled as needed, which was highly appreciated. I had the breakfast burrito which was, hands down, the best burrito I have ever eaten, and I have breakfast burritos every because they are my favorite! The French toast is amazing also with thus sweet crispy crust that I've never seen in French toast and took it over the top. The banana pancake was huge, super fluffy, and tastes wonderful. Really.. Pancakes burnt eggs cold no water on table when asked 4 times wait over an hour not worth it horrible thanks

Sunday morning breakfast was plentiful and tasty at this diner. Very small and crowded place. We had the Mex Brex (w/ chili verde) and the Durango scramble (w/ chili verde). I like hash browns crispy and asked waitress if they would be cooked crispy and she said "absolutely". Well, they were soggy, if I had not had chili verde all over them they might have been more crispy. The chili verde was wonderful but next time I'll get it on the side. I like that you use their tablet at front door to sign yourself in. And on Yelp can monitor your place in line, then when you're up they send text. Works wonderfully. Staff is very friendly. Only complaint was bc we were only a party of two we had to sit at counter. It was a tight fit on the full counter with no elbow room ( I'm a small person I can imagine it to be much worse for a larger person) I was very uncomfortable at the counter...purse had to stay on lap bc there were no hooks under counter or backs to stools to put purse and no elbow room. It was an uncomfortable dining experience although tasted great. read more

A little cafe is located in a strip mall. Great location with lots of parking near the town center. The staff were friendly, however, the food was far from the reviews here. I had ordered the Chicken Fried Steak breakfast which was okay with the exception of the gravy and hash browns. The gravy was really awful with a weird taste, eggs perfectly cooked, hash browns has some weird seasoning, the steak was cooked okay, and I guess the toast would have been okay if it was delivered. They were too busy to really manage keeping your water and coffee full. Lastly, don't order the orange juice, it tasted like orange juice mixed with flat Sprite. Hopefully this was a unique day/order and not typical of this place. read more

The place is tiny and the waits can be long. But it was worth it. I don't remember what kind of omelette I got but this is an actual real picture of my food when it arrived. Makes my mouth water just looking at it. And yes, it tastes as good as it looks. Plenty of parking as this place is in a shopping center. If you are in Durango and are looking for a break from big chain restaurants, Oscars is a winner. This review is only for their breakfast menu. I didn't try the lunch. We came for the fourth and the wait was forever which was to be expected for the amount of people that were in town, however the employees were really nice and they moved through the line pretty fast. Service was extremely slow and chaotic. Waited ten minutes for waitress to take our order, waited longer for our food then they took it too the wrong table. After a round trip back through the kitchen we finally recieved our orders with undercooked hashbrowns, flat pancakes and had to repeatedly ask for syrup, ketchup etc.. Food was missing from our order. Asked for extra plates so the kids could share the pancake and hashbrowns...waitress said we would be charged an extra 2.50 for each plate!! Repeatedly asked for check, finally recieved it and then had to repeatedly ask for someone to run my card to pay! The lady left my card at the cash register where anyone could walk off with it, after ten minutes, I had to get up from eating after several customers waiting to eat were milling around looking at my card laying on the edge of the counter and retrieve my card then start all over again asking someone to ring us out. Finally, recieved the credit card slip..but also no pen to sign with...prices were outrageously high. Save yourself time, eat better food with better waitstaff and go to Durango Diner. Absolutely the "go-to" breakfast place in Durango! Food has always been really good, regardless of menu choice! Very small dining area. Not very conducive to large groups. Don't let this discourage you though. Nothing disappoints here unless it's the elbow-to-elbow seating. read more

Visiting Durango for a soccer tournament and we came here for breakfast Saturday morning. It was bustling with the morning crowd and as we entered, we were serenaded with clinking of forks and the frying of the stovetop. We were entranced by the smell of good food and strong coffee. This little diner has a lot of heart, and the food was very tasty. I had an order of French toast which came out in no time and was delicious. There are a lot of dining options in Durango, but this place is a true local hideout. This is some of the best breakfast food you will ever put inside your glorious mouth. Still my fathers favorite spot, Oscars has everything from high carb, potato lovin', green chile smotherin', gravy covered goodness to satisfy even the hungriest of lumberjacks! In high school I used to come here every Friday with my grandpa before he passed away, it was also his favorite spot. It's a small place so give yourself some time to wait for a table or bar stool and you'll be happy you did. P.S. Cover everything in their gravy, it's incredible! read more

It's a nice diner, with some caveats. I go every so often when I want to mix-up my breakfast dining experience in Durango. One of my measuring sticks I use is biscuits and gravy: this place has OK/standard B-n-G, but nothing amazing. Another way of measuring a joint is their coffee: this place has average coffee, sans flavor except for the dioxin bleached filter the coffee is brewed through. My recent visit with a friend was on a day the diner was not at capacity and an ample amount of waitresses on staff. Our waitress was slow and forgetful, delivering my food before my friends with a gap of about 5 minutes in between serving plates of food. Did not fulfill my friends order until I was finished with my meal, delivering her english muffin with our bill. In hindsight I overtipped her. Food is pretty average to above average. Corn beef hash is out of a tin. I know some people like that taste of container, but I will pass for something with more integrity. It is a bottleneck of a diner, so it is a turn and burn atmosphere. Grousing aside it is a decent place. It out-ranks Durango Diner by a longshot, but you will get better, fresher, and more tasty eats elsewhere (College Drive Cafe). read more

To find Oscars...enter into the large parking lot with the Ace Hardware. A few initial facts. The diner is small and there is no waiting area. The food is great and is probably worth waiting for if you are in no rush. Like I said, the dining area consists of a large counter area and several small tables. I would not recommend this place on a Sunday morning if you have a party of 8..you may be waiting for a while. The food was great breakfast food and the prices were decent. read more
