I had the 2 biscuits and gravy with 2 eggs and hash browns, it was what you would expect at a standard americana dinner except the gravy, the gravy tasted as ic it were made with water, not a bad water gravy but milk or cream would make the gravy, other than that I would recomend this place. read more

Wonderful breakfast! Great variety of dishes. We had the green chili pork breakfast burrito and it was awesome. Also enjoyed the pancakes.

Tiny tiny place. So disappointed in service. On waitlist for 15 and they sat us in teeny back corner by bathroom. I asked for another table and she said she'd put us on list. We are from out of town and this cafe clearly is for locals only. We were ignored for 10 minutes after they acknowledged we were there, standing by the "wait to be seated" sign, as they greeted their regular customers by name (locals I assume) Once we were finally seated, the locals next to us had their order taken and food served before our waitress came to our table. The waitress completely ignored us and wouldn't make eye contact. We were finally helped when we gave back our menus and told them we were leaving. After that the service was fine and the food was great, but we will never return, unless we move here and become locals. read more

It's a shame we were only visiting Durango, otherwise this would become a regular spot for us. We probably had the best two seats in the house... The two stools at the counter closest to the kitchen. Ali waited on us and she was awesome. She has a great sense of humor and took fantastic care us us. I would have taken pictures of our breakfast, but it looked so good I couldn't wait to eat it. I had the Durango scramble and my husband had a ham and cheese omelette. The place is small, and there was a crowd waiting to get in, but I say it's worth the wait. Ate there with my father this morning. Went because of the chili rellano which was the Friday special. Can't say that I would go out of the way to go back. There was a wait list when we arrived which wasn't long; however apparently local and friends of the staff are seated prior to the names on the list. The staff seemed overwhelmed. Our food was slow to come out and was okay. The special was missing the tortilla and when we were able to get someone to ask for it, it still never came. No one ever checked to see if everything was okay. Had to ask for the check, but once the $$ was on the tray it was picked up quickly. I've had good breakfasts here so was looking forward to a chef salad for lunch. I asked them to toss my salad with the dressing. They REFUSED! First it was they didn't have a bowl; then it took to much time. I requested a to go container and threw my salad in it; closed the lid and tossed it myself. The owner said we make our food the way we want to. When I owned a restaurant, my policy was that the customer was always right. NOT AT OSCAR'S. Won't be back. read more

Always have good food here when my wife and I are in town. Good breakfast with excellent choices. The pie is wonderful. Always get a piece for later in the day watching the sunset with evening coffee. Really like the train atmosphere. The service was horrible! I tried to order the grab burrito and they denied me. I ended up ordering another burrito and the chili was cold and sour. I told the manager and she treated us rudely. I only ate one bite and she still charged us for the burrito that I ended up not eating. Smh Durango is a friendly environment and this was odd how she treated us. I have been having trouble doling out the stars here on yelp lately, but I am sure that this place is a 5! Awesome food at great prices with really good service and a nice decor to boot. I am a huge fan of Oscar's Ole -it's a green chile and jack cheese omlette covered in zesty red tomato salsa and sour cream and most everything comes with these fresh potato hash browns that has some unknown seasoning, which is pretty good. You can also get hasbrowns and eggs smothered in their yummy chili verde. Bustling place on a Sunday, even at 8am so if you aren't local and you're catching a raft, train, or heading up to Mesa Verde, come early! The place is small, and packed, but the food is really really good comfort food. Very authentic, and the service is also great. They have a take out for a limited number of items if you're in a rush. read more

You know how, sometimes, touristy towns just seem to be full of tourist-trap restaurants? I have this theory that because most tourists will never be back through the same tourist town twice, there's no incentive for restaurants to wow. They can charge high (what other options do tourists have?) and use poor quality ingredients, and that's probably what they feel they have to do to keep above water with the high price of renting a storefront in a touristy area! So, with the help of Yelp, I try to find the local favorites when I go to touristy towns. I don't want to eat overpriced and underloved menu items on the main strip - I want to go where the waitress goes when she's off the clock! That's how I found Oscars. Man this place was good! The decor is old diner with lots of train memorabilia on the walls. The food is serious diner food - greasy as all get-out, but yummy!! I got a green chili covered burger. It was positively swimming in gooey green chili and was delicious. The fries were also some of the best I've had in a while. Great crispness and seasoning. The place is only two blocks off of the main street, just on the other side of the train tracks, and in a shopping center strip. But I'm confident it was better and less expensive than many of the other options! read more

There are still places that you can go that literally reek of a time past. Where good food is an ingredient but just a small part of the experience. Now I'm not going to moan about times gone by but I will tell you that Oscar's is the real deal. A place where people look you in the eye, talk to you like you're a person and care whether your enjoying your moment in their place. And when I say their place I mean the folks both in front of and behind the counter. I'm not the most social guy in the world but I carried on a 1/2 dozen conversations between staff and customers. What a hoot. I've always enjoyed Durango, especially off-season, but visiting Oscar's made me want to move in. And, the great thing about road trips is that rules of engagement with food are temporarily suspended. In other words I can eat things that were my wife to witness it would be bread, an unremarkable green salad and water for a week after the fact. I had a thing that was a layer of eggs, a layer of sausage, and a layer of green chile shouldered up to a heap of hash browns. Sauced with their home made hot sauce; OMG heaven. I thought Oscar might be a grouch, but boy was I wrong. Oscar's is so much fun! I knew it from the moment I peered inside that I would like it there. Those red pleather seats, that old diner bar, the knick knacks of CO history line the walls. And that awesome train that runs its course around the perimeter of the restaurant. Character galore and I loved it. The food was great to boot. I had the gigantic breakfast burrito, half of which is still sitting in my fridge. I'll get to it...My hubs ordered french toast, which was too delicious. It was crispy, sweet, and had a great punch of cinnamon. Really good diner food, kicked up a notch. Don't believe everything you read on Yelp. We came here for breakfast based on the Yelp reviews. I got the verde dish with hash browns and eggs that everyone raved about and it was BLAND. :( My dad had the Tio omelette and he said is was just average. Nothing special. Very disappointed as it was hailed as such a great breakfast spot on Yelp and on their restaurant window are various awards. There was a line out the door and but we didn't have to wait long, (maybe 15 min.) to be seated. Waitstaff - dry, not friendly or hospitable, but they're concerned with getting everyone seated, fed, and tables rolled over fit the next hungry peeps. You will also get seated quicker if you don't mind sitting at the counter or outside, (but there are only two, 2 top tables outside). Summary - not even great if you come hungry. read more

Best breakfast I've ever had in Colorado! I Love this place. It's fairly priced, plus the food and service both are outstanding. I had French toast and on my 2nd visit a smothered Chili Verde breakfast burrito. Both were outstanding and the burrito is enough for two easily. I don't like eggs and my waitress both times made sure I got exactly what I wanted and even substituted something else for me no questions asked and charged me fairly. If there's a small wait, please do wait, it's worth it. The place is small and very popular so it might take a few mins to get your drinks or your order, but take a moment to see how efficient and hard working these ladies are and you'll appreciate the experience even more. read more

Good, cheap breakfast. One of the better places we ate in the Durango area. There was a long line of people waiting, but after we got on the list, wait was only around 15 min. Despite the crowd, once inside service was shockingly fast and friendly. Anytime I wondered if the would refill the coffee or remember the rest of my order, they popped up. Prices were very cheap, especially for the quality. Chicken fried steak, with eggs, hashbrowns and toast was under $9 - and that's one of the more expensive meals. Sausage gravy on the CFS was a nice touch. Wife got french toast, which appeared deep fried, but was very good too. Overall a great place for a good quick breakfast. read more

Boy, this place is popular! We came around 9 AM on Saturday, April 25th and waited around 20 minutes to be seated. It's a very small building which contributes to the wait. It has a very typical diner atmosphere with friendly servers and tons of regulars. My husband had biscuits and gravy and I had a Durango Scrambler (I think that's what it was called.) Both were really good and homemade tasting. My scrambler had tons of fresh slices of avocado! My husband said the coffee wasn't great and lacked that kind of "burned" diner coffee taste. The servers were nice and worked very hard and like clockwork. If we are back in Durango and in the mood for not too fancy, but yummy diner food we will certainly come back! read more

Oscar's is like Grandma's kitchen. Always such delicious food and the service here never fails. I come here every time I am in town visiting. I highly recommend their hash browns with green chili and cheese. It's so good you will not want to stop eating it. As far as their French toast is concerned, you eat it once, you will become very addicted. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I really like that they keep my coffee cup filled, they are extremely attentive and you can really tell people love this place. Everyone is smiling and cleaning off their plates. read more
