We tried Osaka's for the very first time tonight and we were completely wowed! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by the attentive staff with a friendly Irrashaimase and a warm ambiance of modern Japanese decor. Pictured below, the Negishio Garlic Ramen was my dish of choice and it did not disappoint. This ramen was the best I have ever eaten even in Tokyo. Each bowl is a work of art made with high quality ingredients and flavor combinations that are nothing short of perfection. The noodles are springy and perfectly cooked, just the way they should be. The tender nuggets of chicken, scallions and red ginger combined with the port bone broth, all added their own unique flavor and crunchy texture. There were plenty of staff all working diligently to provide impeccable service and the restaurant was hopping with customers. You can tell the owners have really poured their heart and Japanese culture into every aspect of this restaurant. After one visit we are hooked! Chirashi bowl...never had Chirashi bowl that looks like this. Tiny fish pieces (including grilled eel) which felt like leftovers from others' sashimi cut. There is no single whole sashimi piece at all in the whole box. After hearing so much nice reviews for this restaurant, I have to say my experience is not the same. read more

This place truly breaks the mold when it comes to authentic restaurants. Having been in Japan and tried okonomiyaki, I was so excited when I saw it on a menu here in the states! Okonomiyaki in Colorado? Imagine my joy when I learnt about this Japanese restaurant! I organised a farewell dinner for a friend of mine at Osaka this week. The food was delicious, the ambience was cosy yet elegant, and the staff was friendly. I had intended to order the okonomiyaki, but I started to vacillate as I was browsing through the menu. I ended up getting yakisoba, and so did a friend. The other person in our party ordered the Sunday's Special Osaka ramen and a salmon temaki roll. We whetted our appetite with an order of gyoza for the table. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals! Finger licking good! (Clearly not literally. My friends and I are quite aware that finger licking is not consistent with Covid-19 clinical advice.) And each sip of the hoji-cha (roasted green tea) brought about aroma and calm. Towards the end of our meal, the owner came by and chatted for a bit. I told him that his okonomiyaki menu offering caught my attention, and he was pleasantly surprised that I knew of okonomiyaki! This is the most authentic Japanese restaurant we have found in Colorado. Their sushi is great but go to the things you may have never tried and you'll have a great meal. The ramen is even great. I could not have been more disappointed--the portions were tiny, sushi was badly prepared and falling apart, almost no soy sauce was provided, and worst of all it was WAY overpriced. Wanted to dine here on a Friday night and it was quite busy when I called but they were able to take my reservation for 4 people for about 30 minutes out. On arrival, all staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. They had a ton of options including vegan and vegetarian which was great for my husband and I since we're pescatarian. They had a number of alcoholic drink and tea selections to choose from as well. We enjoyed the unajyu, tempura, and yuzu paitan ramen with veggie gyoza; okonomiyaki was also pretty good but probably would've been even better if we selected the traditional instead of trying the kale-based option. The owner was greeting and chatting up each table, and my dad and him got to chat it up in Japanese for a bit. Overall we had a great experience and would definitely come back if we return to Boulder. read more

Came here today with my fiancé - it was our first time eating dinner out during this pandemic. They definitely followed social distancing and we felt safe and comfortable. This means a lot, especially for my fiancé, who was a little paranoid about eating out. We ordered a lot of food (Obanzai Set, Ebi Mayo, Osaka Ramen, Osaka three burger sliders, sashimi salad special - forgot the full name, Mont Blanc chestnut cake, and teas), and it was all yummy. My fiancé's favorite was a sashimi salad special, which he thought was a great deal with all of the seafood it came with. We ended the meal with a light, scrumptious chestnut cake (fiancé even liked it, and dessert is not his thing!). I loved the traditional Japanese menu options. The Osaka Burger was a unique tasty surprise for my american palate. The owner was personnel and described how they created a gluten free option using kale. They wanted it to be comparable with the traditional Japanese "bun". The Okonomiyaki, savory pancake, was delicious with noodles, pork, and a fried egg. The have a gluten free version of this as well. We will definitely come back to try all their dishes. This is honestly the best sushi in Boulder, hands down. Authentic and delicious. Their seared hamachi belly and black snapper nigiri are amazing. I'd recommend coming here if you want good quality nigiri or sashimi. Rolls are great too but the quality of the fish doesn't need to be hidden behind heavy sauces or fried ingredients, like many other Americanized sushi places. Love Osaka's Japanese Restaurant in Boulder! It is a family run business and you can tell to all the attention to detail. They serve the BEST tempura, not greasy, and use good quality veggies. Do wish the tofu and veggies were organic or and local, but they are trying to go a great job. The food is delicious and authentic, some dishes are available in vegan forms including the sauces. To preface, I'm Asian from The Bay Area, California so we reallyyyy know good Asian food around there. This place is juuust ok. I was skeptical this would not be an authentic place, but was pleasantly surprised that it was actually run by Japanese people. They are actually wearing kimono like uniforms and have authentic Japanese dinnerware. In The Bay we are spoiled with fantastic ramen, so I'm pretty critical of what we had. Sashimi salad: Wasbi/soy based dressing. Came with salmon, tuna, yellow tail. Tonkatsu ramen: Broth was decently milky and flavorful, not too heavy. The charshu had a lot of flavor and a little bit of char. The egg was overcooked. The worst thing was the noodles were over cooked, tasted like it was boiling in the water for a few minutes too long. Miso ramen: The broth was strangely way too sweet. Noodles and the egg were overcooked Salmon teppanyaki: Basic salmon with teriyaki, they gave a large portion of fish. Was pretty good. Kaisen teppanyaki: came with grilled scallops, squid, shrimp, and veggies. Was a good dish but nothing amazing Matcha green tea: It came in a filtered bottle and side glass. I really like the extra step they did to bring it out this way! Matcha was strong and tasted great Overall the place is a bit pricey for what you get. Table agreed it wasn't memorable. It was a restaurant that was full of non-Asians if that's any indicator. However service was attentive and sweet! Stopped by here on the way to a CU basketball game and was not disappointed. While at present they are limited in seating (i.e. make a reservation) due to staffing they work to ensure they provide great service. We started with pork gyoza and spicy sweet potato fries. My daughter said the gyoza was very good. The spicy sweet potato fries came covered in a combination of spicy ketchup and Japanese mayo (which is different than you may be used to but very tasty). To drink was Ranmune, green tea, and Sakura green tea. If you prefer unsweet tea get the green tea, if you prefer sweet the go with the Sakura green tea. Entrees were: Chicken katsu which my daughter loved although she wasn't a fan of the sauce. I loved the sauce as it was thick as it should be (so much better than the watered down versions you get elsewhere) and you get to motar your sesame seeds to the amount of your liking. I had the Yakiniku which was outstanding, be sure to order the as it is a great accompaniment to the dish. The sauce and amount of onions with it make it perfectly balanced. My wife had the negi shisho yaki. It had great umami flavor and a good amount of vegetables in it. The sauce was very yummy. I had a taste of it and definitely recommend it if you haven't tried one before. I can't understand how this restaurant has a 4.5-star rating. The tempura is not freshly fried and it's not hot when served. The okonomiyaki is very salty and too much starch is added. Osaka is not the regular Japanese restaurant we are used to, you won't find any sushi there. The specialty is Japanese okonomiyaki (a savory pancake made from cabbage or kale) but transformed into burger buns and filled with meat, fish or veggies. The end result is delicious and seems fairly healthy. The atmosphere inside Osaka's is modern, and sleek, servers are friendly and wear beautiful kimonos. They had to explain to us how to use the little wooden block on each table. Diners position this electronic device up a certain way and the staff is immediately notified of your request via a signal they get on their wrist. While this is quite clever and convenient, I must admit you have to get used to it, and more than once, while waiting for my water to be refilled, I realized I'd forgotten to use it. Since I was with a group, we were seated in their private room (seats up to 18) where you are asked to remove your shoes. That request felt unnecessary as the floor is made out of wood (felt cold to the touch), and the cushions seat on benches, not on the ground. I also noticed our waitress kept her shoes when she needed to step inside. We all enjoyed our dinners, most of us had the three sliders, mushroom, teriyaki and ume chicken mini Osaka burgers. The fries were good, but not crispy like we are usually used to. They have an extensive list of sake, beer and wine. For dessert, we tried the mochi ice creams and Japanese pudding. I personally liked the mochi mango and green tea a lot, did not care for the puddings (we ordered both the matcha and Houji-cha). Interestingly, most of my friends said that although the food was good, they were not sure they'd come back. As for me, I think I am more likely to visit Osaka's for lunch when I am in the mood for a different kind of burger in a pleasant setting. read more

My friends and I got there 30 minutes after they opened and it was already busy. Despite being busy, we were seated right away and didn't have to wait long for our food. The staff were nice and helpful. The tables have buttons to push in case we needed assistance which was convenient. The decor and lighting was nice. We ordered the okonomiyaki, okasa's ramen, unajyu, and some sashimi/nigiri. My friends enjoyed the okonomiyaki but I highly recommend the ramen as the broth was perfect. I'm disappointed to say the least. We waited so long for everything. Three tables that came in after us got their food before us. Our waiter Kyle, didn't apologize or give us a heads up about the wait. The owner and the younger waitress did for him. He was also not great about refills on water. The sushi entree came out 40 minutes before the burger came out and it was at least another 20 minutes before we were even given an apology for the tardiness for the rest of the 3 entrees. This is a newly opened establishment in Boulder that I quickly jumped on. I knew I want to come here and they serve traditional Japanese food something that is hard to find in Colorado. Recommendations: okinomiyaki, tonkatsu, karaage, and ebi shumai Won't order again: yakuniku, Japanese aioli cheese fries, and burger sliders Let's first start off with the service. Right off the bat it was great service. Right when I walked in I was greeted by almost all the staff and then was quickly seated. They are high tech in which a USB of some type is connected to the table which is connected to our server so when we need something she knows. It is pretty cool. I went there with my brother and mother and we wanted to try everything and ordered a lot. First we ordered the gyoza and the ebi shumai. The gyoza was tasty but tasted like any other gyoza. The ebi shumai was delicious and would definitely get again. Another starter we got were the obanzi set which is small vege dishes kind of reminded me of banchan from korean cuisine. You get 3 in a set, the were quite tasty and my mother really enjoyed them. We also ordered onigiri which you get two in a set. We really enjoyed these but they are very filling and it is a pan fried rice ball. For the main course we ordered an okinomiyaki, sliders, yaku niku, tonkatsu, and karaage. You get rice with the entrees however it is an extremely small portion so be warned. The okinomiyaki was delicious, it tasted like the ones from Japan, highly recommended. I did not enjoy the sliders as much as I thought I would, we got a mix of the kale "buns" and the regular ones, I didn't enjoy the kale ones very much. And I didn't enjoy the chicken as the filling however the mushroom slider was tasty. The tonkatsu and karaage was amazing, and the sesame sauce for the tonkatsu, you get to grind up the sesame seeds yourself and to your liking. I loved that part. To end it we got yaku niku and Japanese aioli cheese fries, I was a little disappointed in the yaku niku it had to much sauce which made it overly salty for me, for 25$ I don't think it was worth it. I was also disappointed in the fries as they didn't have enough aioli on them. Just tasted like cheese fries to me. I have had fries like these else worth these were a little disappointing.
