I went to undergrad at boulder and recently revisited and saw that this was a hidden gem. We went to try it and honestly it was just okay. Service was good and the food was good but it felt overpriced for the food. The hot roll we got came out like 30 minutes after everything else. We thought they forgot about it. Also, the edamame was like frozen cold. I've never had it that way and maybe that's how it is supposed to be served but it was chilly. Overall, it was just okay. I probably wouldn't come back. However, even though it was their first day opening for the week (Tuesday), they were out of a lot of fish and couldn't offer their Chirashi Bowl which we specifically came for. This place has gone so horribly downhill. Sat at the sushi bar last night and was served the most mediocre and subpar food and I've ever had in my entire life. The eel was extremely dry and super tiny pieces. The Toro hand roll had this disgusting tasting paste that almost look like Play-Doh that was smeared all over the board before clumping it into the hand roll. This place used to be decent and the last three times I've gone. I've regretted it each time, hoping that maybe it was just a fluke. This is by far the best sushi place I've had in Colorado. The fish is absolutely fresh and the pricing is very fair for the quality and quantity that you get. Each bite left me wanting more and I have never had as fresh of fish as these. They literally melt in your mouth. I also ordered the Uni and Omakase. The Uni was not only sweet but was super buttery. Just how I love it. As for the Omakase I loved the experience and the selection by the chef. Thank you so much for the experience. I'll definitely be back! This place is very cozy, so I definitely recommend booking in advance. Staff are very friendly to also be very accommodating. Lastly get the mochi (plain) dessert with red bean and strawberry. Solid choice for sushi in Boulder. I've been systematically dissopointed by the sushi in Colorado and this place redeams it to some extent. Coming from Southern California, traveling between LA & San Diego I have become somewhat spoiled. With that being said, this place could most likely hold a 4 star where I'm from. Of course I wasn't blown away by any means but at least I was pretty happy with what we ordered. I recommend trying some of their special rolls that are not offered on the regular menu, but come on a separate piece of paper. The service was friendly, but a bit slow- however the restaurant was relatively busy. The place itself is nice, not very large but cool vibe. Parking is limited and tight. All in all- recommended. My gf decided to go here after a good hike in Boulder. The otoro was on special that day and it did not disappoint. It was $10 for 2 pieces, which I thought was pretty cheap. It was buttery and melted in my mouth, it's rare finding good fatty tuna in Colorado. The spicy blue fin tuna roll was good but not the best, it was poorly assembled and it broke apart once picked up with chop sticks. The crunchy spicy tuna roll was even better, which I highly recommend. We finished off our order with edamame and some of the best karaage I've had in Colorado. It is an actual crime that this spot is not more highly rated. It's by far the best sushi in Boulder and the best I've ever had this far from the ocean--very comparable in flavor and quality to mid-range omakase places in San Francisco, and at a better price. It's an absolute magic trick to have fish taste this fresh in Colorado. Others complained about the service, but I've been here a few times and never had anything less than perfect service. It's owned by a lovely Japanese family that is super sweet and attentive. We ordered many of the things we would have ordered if we were inside - unagi, otoro, ikura, ika mentai...and evening though we were eating it all in the car (because there was no way we were going to wait until we drove home!), it was all perfect, and if we closed our eyes we could almost pretend we were inside, listening to jazz and bantering with Nobu-san. Sigh. We also ordered the tori karaage, which came out super crispy and awesome, and the takoyaki, which had the requisite dancing bits on top. I love this place. I love the food. You can never go wrong with omakase and we've never been disappointed with our in house experience. If you're not in a rush and want to enjoy a great meal on date night in an unstuffy setting, this spot may be well worth your visit. The not so fun... though listed on yelp as takeout we were told they don't offer it On Friday and Saturday. We've definitely ordered on weekends but , ok. Then attempted yesterday (Thursday) you can only order sushi...we only wanted additional tsukemono but, again...ok. The order we picked up was great but some updating to their website or policies would be appreciated. Real. Wasabi. I could just stop the review here, but I won't. Set on the top floor of a little strip mall, you'd pass by this spot if you're not looking for it. But look for it you should. It wasn't busy while we were here, so we were seated and waited on quickly. The staff is beyond accommodating and pleasant. They really seem to be stoked that you decided to stop by. The space itself is not going to win prizes for ambience, but it's the food that really matters anyway, right? We had several pieces of nigiri as well as maki and a hand roll. Upon ordering, we were asked if we liked wasabi. "Yes!" we both excitedly replied. And wowee woo. They bring out a good portion of the real deal. The fish was all very fresh and flavorful, hardly needing the spice and soy sauce, but of course we used it anyway. You never really know how good sushi can be until you get some REALLY GOOD stuff, and this, my friends, was it. Tasuki is yucky. First, it is crazy hard to find. It just has a handwritten sign- Yelp led me to find that it is upstairs from Taste of Philly. Parking is tight, you may have to park and walk from the next block. The restaurant is cute but filthy. I saw a handwritten sign that they will be closed for renovation at the end of Feb/beg of March. The carpet is sandy and stained. The ceiling has lots of leaks. I went to use the bathroom and instead of soap, they only had purell. The rice on the sushi was very chewy. The salmon seemed fresh, everything else was meh. The price was too much for what you get.
