Wow!! The food was soo good! The service was excellent, even tho we came in close to closing time. The BEST gyoza we've had, unagi/cuke/avocado roll and some saki rounded out our delicious meal.

Wow. I revisited Blofish to celebrate my partner's birthday, who lived in California for a while and is a huge fan of high-craft sushi. We love Boulder because of our hobbies way more than Cali, but were missing that level of sushi. We checked out Blofish a while ago, enjoyed it, but then COVID discouraged us from going out much. Well, happy to be reminded that it's is officially one of my favorite restaurants in town. Some folks might think they are too expensive, comparing them to other spots, and I thought this too initially, but it's a whole other league of sushi without being pretentious. They know what they are doing, are super knowledgeable about their suppliers, and as a designer, I really appreciated how casual yet elevated their brand and space is. They even serve tea in some really high-end Japanese porcelain from a brand called Hasami that designers like me really respect the craftsmanship of. I will say that loose leaf tea would be even better next time. Our waitress was super knowledgeable and also just gave us space to enjoy our special-occasion sushi, without ever feeling rushed. Great sushi, great vibes. Will be back for sure.

What an adorable space. It has a small outdoor space as well. Great location right off Pearl street. Super clean, attentive servers. Food was on the smaller portion however it was delicious. I'd rather has quality over quantity. My daughter is a salmon sashimi snob and she gave them two thumbs up! Beautiful food presentation, a visual feast to my eyes before each bite is savored then devoured. Stop by, you won't regret it.

This review is for December 7, 2021 We visited CU Boulder at part of my daughter's college campus visit. We're from Hawaii and we were so starved for some good sushi. My daughter found Blofish on Yelp and decided to try. I have to say the quality and the presentation of the food were excellent! Fresh and delicious. We ordered: Sashimi medium plate, Unagi freshwater, Eel-Japan, salmon skin roll, miso soup, rice. Sushi chef Craig who made our dinner was engaging and interesting. We strike up a conversation about how he became a sushi chef - through his interest in the Japanese culture and art. We enjoyed his sharing and the beautiful meal he made for us. I highly recommend this place!

I've given this restaurant two shots in a few years, and both times have been let down. The menu is enticing, having so many delicious types of fish. The takeout and presentation is gorgeous, but the food is subpar. The first time I ordered, I got stabbed in the mouth with a huge sharp bone, and picked around my order to find safe pieces to eat. The ones that didn't have giant sharp bones, were really chewy and lacking in flavor. A year later, I decided to give them another shot. New restaurants usually have to work out the kinks. This time I got 2 salmon rolls, thankfully there were no bones, but the fish was really chewy and a bit dry. It looked stunning, but was so disappointing. I would expect from the menu, prices, and takeout containers that the food would be on par with Sushi Den, but that's not the case.

The A5 - Blofish surf and turf is the bomb!!! It is a very unique sushi roll. The only thing that stop me from giving five star would be the price. I ordered some other dishes like fresh water eel, salmon sashimi and salmon nigiri and they were not bad too.

Came here for lunch yesterday and immediately got sick with food poisoning afterwards (this was the first thing I ate all day so it was definitely this place that got me sick). Just want to let the owners know in case they need to check their food safety handling practices.

I could eat sushi every day. It's my favorite food. And I live in LA where I have some of the best sushi at my fingertips. Whoa. It is my mission in life to get Blofish to LA!! But until then, if you're in the Boulder area, you MUST stop by and eat here. I had pretty much a little of everything cause I was curious and nothing wasn't amazing. If you go here, I HIGHLY recommend the Wagyu Negi with Tempura Aspargus Roll. (See pictured) Life changing. Truly. ALSO the Tempura Kabocha Roll. WOW!! It has Japanese pumpkin in it. I have never had anything like it. It's SO GOOD!! Will definitely make this a regular stop whenever possible!!!

    Yummy!!!

I consider myself a fair reviewer, and will do my best to provide constructive criticism in hopes the management will take some steps to educate their staff. My husband, daughter and I spent the night at the Boulderado on the evening of 4/23. In the morning -4/24 -while they finished packing I went down to the restaurant first to get a table as we only had about 50 minutes to go back to our room to get our belongings and check out. The restaurant was not very busy, and I thought to myself, "Great!" The hostess picked up 3 menus, then paused, sighed, and said she wanted to give the server a bit more time to catch up, and she asked me to sit on a bench, though there were multiple open tables where I would have gladly waited. My husband and daughter joined me shortly thereafter and the hostess finally seated us, saying there was only one server working. She handed us 2 breakfast menus when there were clearly 3 of us, and my husband had to get up and go to the host stand to get another one. Our server came by after some time and took our order. Oddly, we saw a different server with another table so she was not the only server working after all. She brought my husby's coffee, but no spoon. Well, at least there was a knife because several servers passed our table without even a glance. He was never asked if he wanted a refill, even when he asked for a spoon and his cup was nearly empty. She didn't even give him enough time to ask for more. The kicker was the manager, pony tail guy- standing outside the restaurant in front of the coffee bar with our server and two other young ladies, laughing it up while we were sitting there completely surrounded by no coffee. Not one person asked if they could bring us anything else throughout the entirety of our meal. We literally had to wave them down for the spoon, then nothing. Time was running out so I sent my grumpy husband and frustrated daughter back to the room to get our luggage and said I'd wait for the server to pay. I sat there another 5 minutes holding my credit card up, and even caught the eye of pony tail guy across the bar, but eventually had to just go to the bartender to ask for the bill. I likely could have just walked out without paying and no one would have even noticed! I will say the food was fine. Hubby had the Denver omelette, which he said was flavorful, and our daughter and I each had the Avocado toast which was very nice. Loved the seedy bread. However, the service-or lack thereof- left a bad taste in our mouths. We love the Boulderado and will be back, but unless there is some training of their young waitstaff we aren't likely to return to Spruce. Overall, the restaurant staff seemed completely disinterested in the customers and couldn't be bothered to even offer a friendly smile. For a hotel like the Boulderado with the reputation of a historic gem, we expect much more from their restaurant. We have dined there previously, most recently last year when we had a lovely server, a much more mature and professional lady who was lively and joked with us. It was a very busy morning and she made sure we felt taken care of even when things took longer. We left with a smile on our faces. A few final words of wisdom- 1) even if things are busy, stop by a new table to offer a pleasant word and let customers know someone will be with them shortly, even if it's not your table 2) when you bring coffee be sure you provide a spoon, and at least one check in about a refill 3) stop by to ask if your customers need anything else, and get them their check in a timely manner 4) if you are a manager, don't stand around gabbing with your staff in plain sight of your customers, while said customers are being ignored, and 5) a smile goes a long way. The only smile we got was from the bartender who at one point seemed to be the only person running the show.

As soon as my stomach started growling I knew I had to stop in for a bite. Everything, as always, was perfectly seasoned, balanced, and cooked with love. Last night, I stopped in for just a simple espresso martini so that I could stay awake for planned festivities... everything was fine, but one of the bartenders did give me a really nasty look when I sat in front of him. Now this is a shame because this is actually a fellow person of color and being that I am part Asian, Blasian on my mother's side: what I'm about to describe really does not sit well with me specifically. As I was going to leave, he mockingly asked if I changed my mind and wanted another. Or, after talking about how he has this roommate who only likes chicken fingers to other customers with disdain for said roommate's unrefined palate, told me he could instead get me some chicken fingers from the back while literally cackling AT me.... ?! Excuse me? So, I won't say how I responded, but it was appropriate and I immediately walked out, and I don't know how it could ever be made up to me to walk back in... Mocking a Black woman to her face and asking her if she wants some fried chicken from the back?! Wtf!!! To be clear, I have eaten at this location on more occasions than I can count as I have already expressed; that includes the front deli as well as the main dining room and at the bar. This assumption about my palate if meant innocently (it wasn't, the other bar patrons and bartender were visibly horrified!) was in poor taste at best. At worst, well... So get it together, Black Belly management. I also heard that your bartenders don't need to go to meetings? Maybe they should at the very least receive a little bit more training on basic professionalism! The food here is excellent. I couldn't bring myself to do one star; but, not worth macro racial aggression especially from a man! Major ick.
