This is such a cute Japanese restaurant. Really nice ambiance. Great place for a date or to go with family. Servers were extremely friendly and they have a button you press when you're ready to order/want the check which was really convenient. Food came out fast. My favorite sushi was probably the salmon nigiri. It was extremely buttery and fresh. Also the eel was great. I wouldn't recommend the maki/rolls as much as the nigiri. They also had a lot of options that weren't sushi like ramen, salad, rice dishes, okonomiyaki, and more. Definitely some menu items you can't get at any Japanese restaurant. My husband and I were staying at the Residence's Inn next door and were looking for a place for dinner. We were so glad we settled on Osaka's. The place was packed on a Monday night so you know it's going to be good. We were lucky to get a spot at the bar! We were so happy with our experience. The staff were incredible. The vibes were great. Everyone was so welcoming. The food was amazing. I had the Osaka's Ramen and my husband had the Osaka's Chirashi Sushi Box. I reluctantly let my husband try my ramen, it was so good I didn't want to share! He isn't much of a ramen guy but he said it was the best he'd ever had and was very jealous. Always a great experience and just what we hoped for my husband's birthday dinner. We ordered some favorite appetizers during happy hour and the had our favorite main,okonomiyaki with seafood for our meal. It was loaded with scallops, shrimp and squid. Of course we always take the bonito flakes which arrive dancing on top of the food, to wave in the escaping heat of the fresh seafood omelet. They have a roasted barley tea I love that has no caffeine as made without a decaffeinating process and so different than herbals common in Boulder. It has real substance. As we started to eat our pork gyoza and Ebi shumai we saw a lit candle in some food being carried across the room. Having eaten here baby times over the year, we were surprised as we had never seen this here. The entire restaurant broke in singing happy birthday to someone too far for us to see. As a server was passing our table, I mentioned we were celebrating my husband's birthday too. He said meh!d let someone know. As we were waiting for our dessert later, the owner who we've met before , with one of the servers who was carrying an ice cream mochi with a flaming birthday candle arrived and placed it in front of my husband and all the patrons broke out in sing again! Who knew this was a tradition here? The owner, who is almost always on the floor had an instant camera and too a picture of our table with the candle celebration. He made a copy for us to take home and one for nh husband to sign which will go up on some wall I had never noticed. We'll be sure to check in the walk the next time we are in. It's such a fun place with really good food. Do make a reservation these days. It's always busy, the now are only open Wed- Sat for dinner. As we were leaving on a very cold night, there weee people packed into the little entry way waiting for seats. The food is okay, my husband got ramen and mother got teriyaki salmon, I got adegashi tofu and house salad, with tempura and seared fatty tuna, salmon & cucumber sushi. I encourage, to make reservations, there's a 90 minute limit for dining. Service is good, they have buttons to press for help. Omg, it is very warm, we were seated in booth, by windows and apparently, a/c is on, but it's baking. I'm wearing summer dress with spaghetti straps. They said, because they open the doors to patio, a/c isn't strong? I don't know, about coming here for a romantic evening. However, dessert is yummy (sponge cake). Plus, using a cc to pay, means an extra 3% and it's not known ahead of time. So, I'd suggest bringing cash, unless you want to pay extra 3% surcharge. Modan Yaki (5/5): I've been to a lot of Japanese restaurants before but I don't think I've ever seen okonomiyaki as a dish before. I liked the cabbage pancake but the Yakisoba noodles and pork belly on top were my favorite parts. The sauce might've been a bit too sweet but I still liked it. Takoyaki (4/5): Pretty good takoyaki with a decent amount of octopus bits. I liked the dried bonito flakes a lot. Osaka's Ramen (3/5): I probably would've liked this if not for the red ginger. The flavor really soaked into the broth and ruined the dish for me. The noodles were pretty good though. Osaka's offers one of the best-executed traditional Japanese dining experiences in Colorado. Their okonomiyaki, ramen, and sushi selections go head-to-head with some of my favorite Japanese places in the mid-Atlantic. I regularly order the Chirashi and Ramen, as well as their negitoro handroll which is genuinely as good as any I've been handed at $200/person omakase experiences. Their ramen broth is super rich, flavorful, and some of the best around, I've tried Uncle, Odd Rabbit, and most of the other spots people recommend and I still find Osaka's to be the best. The price is also relatively reasonable for what you get in Boulder and adding some extra noodles to an order really gives a large satisfying portion. The service is streamlined and efficient with the "call waiter" buttons on the table making for one of the most straightforward dining experiences in Boulder. My only critique is that the timing of sushi bar items and kitchen items can be unharmonious when the sushi bar gets inundated with orders, so just be aware of that when ordering. The desserts and drink options are solid and also make for a very well-rounded dining experience. I love the mont blanc and a draft sapporo. All in all, I recommend Osaka's as the best value Japanese spot in Boulder! read more

Wow we ate here while visiting Boulder after a hike in the Rockies and I would definitely go back just to eat here. The portions are large, the flavors are a hit, and they are more authentic than other places. Everything we ordered was great and we would certainly come back to try more. Went here for a group dinner of 10 people, and it was amazing! I never ate here when living in Boulder, but on a recent trip back a friend invited us here and I was pleasantly surprised at how great this place was. The service was amazing. All the staff was friendly, attentive and the owner even came around and thanked us for coming in. The vibe of the restaurant is definitely on the casual side but the restaurant was warm, welcoming and busy so I would definitely recommend a reservation especially for a weekend. We had the takoyaki and 3 different okonomuyaki for the table. All of which were delicious. I then had the Unajyu and my husband had the wagyu yakiniku. The eel of the unajyu was cooked to perfection and the flavor was amazing. The dish was very filling. I also had some of my husband's wagyu dish and it came out sizzling and was again, delicious. Spent a birthday dinner here and it was by far one of my favorite meals since moving to CO. We ordered so much food, from appetizers to dessert, and left with our bellies full and spirits high. I was surprised how full the restaurant was upon arrival, but based on my experience the other night, I can understand why. The staff was wonderful and the owner was just the sweetest, most outgoing guy--he came by our table a few times to make sure everything was alright and even bid us a good night when leaving, as did other staff members. Maybe some of the best service I've had at a restaurant here in Boulder. Next time we'll try some hot entree items, rather than focusing on the sushi. Nothing wrong with the sushi at all, but after reading some more background on the restaurant and owner, we realized they're also known for their okonomiyaki. I think it's safe to say we'll be back! The owner is seriously the sweetest -- he has such an inspiring story behind the business, and every time I come in he's there working, chatting with people, and genuinely caring about everyone's experience. This place is a must! My party and I got both ramen and sushi and all were knock outs! The owner came up and explained how unique the dishes are and the process of it. According to Osaka's menu, Okonomiyaki is: "a traditional, savory pancake made with wheat flour, eggs, and crunchy cabbage (or kale) with our original okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayo." If you're going to Osaka's for your first time, you have to choose one of the SEVEN Okonomiyaki to try. They each consist of the base listed above but all have different delicious toppings. There are options of pork, beef, cheese, seafood, veggie and combos. You can even get your Okonomiyaki made GLUTEN FREE! In our case, we tried the Butatama, which is Osaka's Okonomiyaki with Mugifuji pork belly, their OG okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayonnaise. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY MINDBLOWING FOR US & OUR TASTE BUDS! Originally, we had wanted to pair this with their famous Yelp Top 100 Burger. However, we found out they only make the burgers Sunday, Monday and Thursday. We pivoted, and tried three sushi rolls: Avocado & Salmon, Negihama (Fatty Hamachi & Scallion) and Negitoro (Bluefin Fatty Tuna & Scallion). It became a happy surprise to find out they also did sushi so well. It was fresh, simple and flavorful. Exactly how we like our sushi. Beyond the food, the service here is fantastic. We sat on the patio where each table had a clicker to let the waitress or waiter know we needed assistance. When we were ready to order or needed more water, you just clicked the button to alert them. It made for a really relaxing meal with minimal interruptions. Super cool gizmo & idea, I loved it! Finally, the coolest part of the meal was being thanked by the owner for coming in. Every time I come to Boulder I eat at Osakas. I'm from Los Angeles and my son goes to CU Boulder. We originally found this place because we're Hilton memebers and this restaurant is a stone's throw from there. They open at 5 for dinner and it's always full. Ive written a couple of reviews already for this place. I still think it's exceptional. Their hand rolls are done extremely well, their salmon is juicy and their noodles have the perfect chew. They were a bit busy when I came and had a bit of a wait even with a reservation but understandable since they were a bit understaffed. At first we were really excited to see such an "authentic" looking Japanese restaurant. The waitresses all look great in their kimonos. However, their "calling by a button" system doesn't work very smoothly. We kept pushing the button and nobody showed up until we had to physically flag someone. Osaka's has the best "boring sushi", aka, simple roles like salmon and tuna. Just a dot of fish in the middle of a seaweed wrapped roll, looking very much like a Japanese flag. I say they're the best because you can feel how tightly packed the sushi rice was, as well as the perfect amount of vinegar. They tasted so fresh. I call them "boring" because they aren't that fun to eat: as opposed to sauce and topping heavy "special rolls" that are totally Americanized and not at all Japanese. But I'm used to what I'm used to, aren't you? ;-) The ramen was ok, the okonomiyaki (we had the Gyutama with beef) was ok. The dessert (we had Mont Blanc) was ok. Overall it was a little above OK, so it's more like 3.5 stars for me. read more

Was in town for a hike and wanted to grab ramen after. We saw Osaka had great reviews and thought we would try. We arrived around 4:25 and there was already a line outside which reaffirmed this place was good. We were able to get a table for two without a reservation and so happy we did! The place is cute and clean inside, also offers additional outside seating in the front. They had a full wall of spirits when you walk in and towards the back was their sushi bar. We started with two sushi rolls, spicy salmon and avocado and cucumber. For an entree I ordered their Spicy Miso Ramen. Everything was so good and the service was so nice. Had a lovely experience here for a business dinner. We started with the Edamame. Although it says sea salt I don't think they had any added. We had to request our own. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki with white rice. It was delicious! Everything about our experience here was outstanding - it was truly the best I've had in a while. We arrived at around 7:30pm without a reservation, and the place was almost full, which we took as a good sign! (Especially for a Monday night.) We were seated right away in one of the few open tables left. Our table of 4 shared mostly everything, which we highly recommend doing so you can taste it all! We started with a few appetizers and one of the scallion pancake dishes. We also ordered one of the sushi rolls and sashimi as a mid-course. Each couple shared a bowl of ramen, which felt like a warm hug to close out our meal. Each dish we tried was impressive, flavorful, and unique. Highlights (for me) were the takoyaki and black seaweed salad! This place has really great value, too. A meal at this level of quality in the Bay Area (where we're visiting from) would maybe be 2-3x the price! Our table also tried a few of their Japanese beers and split a bottle of sake, which added to the overall experience. The hospitality was overall impeccable, while also relaxed and oh-so-humble. An older gentleman, who I assume to be the owner, was very active around the dining room, assisting the staff, and following up with the tables enjoying their meals. The sweetest part was when he asked the whole dining room to join in singing happy birthday for a table there to celebrate. This level of hospitality, set by example, trickles down to every other staff member there. Everyone was so kind and attentive! This place is an absolute gem! Best Japanese since moving from CA four years ago. Their tempura and agedashi are delicious and light. Sushi was super fresh! Their Tantan men was delicious -- broth is super rich and flavorful. The Osaka's ramen was delicious as well -- the broth equally as flavorful as the Tantan. The noodles were chewy and perfect. They also offer okonomiyaki which we haven't seen since our visit to Osaka last fall. Osaka's is a full-service Japanese restaurant in The Village. There's sushi and many non-sushi items. Both sides of the menu are good. Sushi's more expensive. The non-sushi items are maybe not as well-known but are definitely worth trying. They have a button you can press to call for service. They do the irasshaimase thing (they yell "welcome").
