Osaka's is a full-service Japanese restaurant in The Village. There's sushi and many non-sushi items. Both sides of the menu are good. Sushi's more expensive. The non-sushi items are maybe not as well-known but are definitely worth trying. They have a button you can press to call for service. They do the irasshaimase thing (they yell "welcome"). So I was originally going to give this place a 4, however I have mixed feelings as I think this place gave me some food poisoning. I had the worst stomachache/felt super nauseous a few hours after dinner. However, here's my experience when I was at the restaurant. The employees were so friendly and they had this high tech device that allows you to easily communicate with the servers what you need before they get to your table. We tried the Takoyaki and I got the Pork Yakisoba. Both were very yummy and the flavors were great. My only complaint was that the food did take a while, but at least you knew they were making it fresh. read more

I would eat here every single week if I could afford it. Authentically Japanese in atmosphere and menu. This place caught my eye because it serves okinomiyaki's which are pretty hard to find (and a pain to make). Tucked away in a shopping center of home design shops, this popular place was hopping on a Saturday night. My sister and I split the Obanzai Set of 3 seasonal vegetable dishes, Takoyaki Octopus Balls and the Modan Yaki with pork belly, yakisoba and egg. All dishes exceeded expectations and were served traditional Japanese style with minimalist artistic style. I am obsessed with authentic healthy Japanese food. I have found these little gems hidden in some of the most unexpected places in the USA. A fantastic place to visit! Food was a little pricey, but definitely well worth it. We had some who lived in Japan and they said the meal was as authentic as it gets. All the fish tastes fresh and not at all like frozen. The spicy miso ramen was delicious. Service was good. It took a little while to get the sushi itself, however it was worth the wait. What a find! Are you looking for that authentic flavor from the Land of Rising sun in Boulder? If so this is the place! A VERY wide variety of different Japanese dishes: Ramen, yakisoba, teppanyaki, pancake dishes aka okonomiyaki, raw fish aka sushi, Osaka burger?? etc, etc. I 100% agree that this is very authentic to the dishes and flavors I found while in Japan SHUSHI there are No fancy "US inspired " overflowing mega rolls with lemons or sauces or baked or deep fried, just standard Japanese styles of maki rolls, sashimi, chirashi and nigiri rolls Agedashi Tofu was spot on! Strongly recommend Fatty tuna and yellowtail makis and large pieces of hamachi for the jalapeño carpaccio. As you would expect Miso and edamame were good We Tried the Butatama, never had that before. Wasn't my favorite dish but well done. The service and ambience are as reported in other reviews. We were there on a random winter Monday and got a table but still quite busy. Amazing place. Atmosphere is genuine and authentic, staff was incredibly nice. I felt like I was back in Japan a little bit. Nigiri and maki were excellent, so fresh with no fishy taste at all. Melted in my mouth. My family were here to move my brother into college, and when the owner came over and asked if we were in town to move someone in, my brother told him yes and what he was majoring in. When he said International Affairs, the owner's eyes lit up instantly and he told us the story of how he travelled around the world to 89 countries and finally after decades he achieved his dream of opening the restaurant. I am an enormous sushi fan, and this is objectively probably the best sushi meal I have ever had. The fish was so impressive and fresh. I started with two orders of nigiri, maguro and aburi hamachi belly, and followed that with two hosomaki (thin) rolls, the avocado & cucumber maki and tekka maki. The perfect portions! I was in Boulder recently on vacation and decided to try Osaka's. I ordered the teriyaki chicken . It came with strips of chicken marinaded in teriyaki sauce along with seasonal vegetables. I really enjoyed the flavor he the teriyaki. The vegetables were also very tasty. Decided to try Osaka based on reviews here and I could not have been more disappointed. Party of 2 on a Sunday night with reservations. Seated right away by a friendly kid who explained the menus (yes 4 menus) and table call buttons for service. So we hit the button for service right away, hit it again, and again, and again, watching the tables around us get food and drinks. 20 minutes after being seated, a frantic waitress shows up and finally takes our order. I'm skeptical of sashimi at any new place so I always order the Hamachi, Salmon, and Red Snapper sashimi because in my experience those 3 pieces will you give you a very good idea of what to expect from the fish menu. We also ordered an Unagi roll and 2 beers. 1st round of beers came out pretty quick after ordering, so after 30 minutes, we finally have our 1st drink and an order in, should be quick right, 9 pieces of cut fish, and a simple roll. Another 30 minutes go's by and we finally receive our 1 roll and 9 slices of fish. I'll go from light to dark fish.. Lightest was the Red Snapper, before the bite even hit my mouth I inhaled what tasted like a fishy burp. Once the slimey chewy fishy meat actually hit my mouth I immediately wanted to spit it out. It was so chewy I continued to try to just get it down without throwing up. I should have stopped but figured it couldn't get worse than that so I moved on to the Hamachi. The Hamachi was also very rubbery and chewy and surprising lacked any real flavor. It tasted like dirty water. So finally on to what was supposed to be Salmon but had the coloring of Caucasian skin tone and a shine from the slime that had grown on it. If you know what really low guality FARMED Salmon looks like, then you can perfectly envision this sad, gross piece of Salmon. Yes, I did actually try to eat it and it was absolutely the worst bite of sashimi I have ever had anywhere in my life. Disgusting. My beer was long gone at this point, and our server button had been pushed many times with no response. So I swished the last remaining drops of water from my empty water glass around in my mouth in a febrile attempt to wash away the sushi diarrhea I had just suffered. Since moving from Chicago, we have been on the lookout for okonomiyaki in Colorado and finally found one in Boulder- it did not disappoint! Would highly recommend the vegetable and cheese okonomiyaki- so flavorful and unique. The miso soup never misses and don't pass on the matcha puff (one of my favorite desserts) The owner is so nice and comes around to check in and hear the history of why he opened the restaurant (very interesting)! They do ramen, they do yakisoba, they do teppan yaki, and they do okonomiyaki. But the real star of the show is their sushi bar. This is "old school" sushi, no fancy dressings or sauce overwhelming the sushi. Just rice, seaweed, and couple of ingredients. I was very underwhelmed by the sushi. The gyoza didn't have much flavor, and sushi was bland.

Being the newbie in the office and tasked with organizing a fun and delicious outing is no small feat. I was besides myself with joy knowing I was surprising the crew with some delicious burgers from Osaka's. Osaka's did an incredible job ensuring that the offerings were made to take my colleagues dietary restrictions in mind (vegetarian, pescatarian, you name it, we asked for it). Not to mention each burger was lovingly labeled and wrapped in the cutest Osaka's branded napkin. Delivery came right on time and I was elated that we had no ordinary delivery driver, but Mr. Koji himself. Such an honor! With our burgers in tow we whisked off to Scott Carpenter park for ice-breakers, scavenger hunts, and of course those decadent Osaka burgers. I enjoyed the teriyaki chicken burger. The bun was made of cabbage which was so fun and tasty. The teriyaki sauce was finger licking good too. My colleagues enjoyed all the offerings with the ume chicken being a stand out from the bunch. I'm excited to visit this location in person to try some of their other offerings and of course their desserts! read more

I cannot believe we have not discovered this hidden treasure until today! This is the real deal! We toured Japan for 21 days in 2019 and this place is as authentic as you can get in the states. In Japan, they drink Whiskey Highballs like lemonade because it's so light and refreshing. The version here may be shorter but you'll definitely feel it. Takoyaki or fried octopus balls is THE iconic Osakan street food and is a definite must get here. I found the shell even lighter and crispier here. Garnished with just the right amount of sauce and Kewpie mayo, it is melt in your mouth delicious. I highly recommend the vegetarian Obanzai set as a counter point to the rich but somewhat heavier okonomiyaki. We went right for the Delux Yaki which had succulent scallops, shrimp, more octopus, as well as traditional pork belly. We devoured it. In fact, our only complaint is that it was not as big as the ones in Osaka! We ended the meal with the Chestnut cream cake, which was exquisite to the eye and taste. I so missed the hospitality of the Japanese people and their attention to detail. Now I have a place here whenever I need a taste of Japan. We'll be back soon! read more

One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Colorado, and definitely a favorite in Boulder. The service is always attentive and warm, the atmosphere is cozy and the foods are excellent. I have been going to this place for years, and I'm happy to see that it survives the pandemic and continues to serve great food with equally great service. I love their okonomiyaki (Japanese savory "pancake" made with green cabbage, flour, eggs and meat/seafood). I recently tried their modanyaki that has noodles and pork belly. It's delicious and really filling as a main course. Its crispy on the outside, soft in the inside and the pork belly makes it extra tasty. I used to order their lunch set that had several different dishes, but since they no longer serves lunch I see that the lunch set is no longer an option. However, they expanded their menu to include ramen too. I will need to go back to try those different ramen, but somehow when I visit this restaurant it's hard not to order their okonomiyaki since it is their specialty and not many Japanese restaurants in Colorado offer it on their menu. Next time I will bring friends so that I can share different dishes! read more

What a treat for Boulder to have a restaurant that focuses on regional food from Osaka, as opposed a restaurant that focuses on food from all over Japan! And yes, there is a difference. My husband and I both went for the Osaka-style okonomiyaki: pork belly for him and seafood for me. The seafood okonomiyaki included squid, little octopus tentacles, and baby shrimp. It came on a hot skillet, guaranteed to keep my meal warm the entire time I was eating it. Oh my goodness...sooooo savory, tangy, and oceanic all in one. The pork belly one got a strong approval from my husband, who has spent some time in Japan and can be quite particular when it comes to Japanese cuisine. We ordered the avocado yaki for our little foodie-in-training. The avocado yaki may not be authentic Japanese in the least, but it's high in calories and tasty. It's basically just cream cheese and avocado, two of our little guy's favorite foods. Dessert was a light, mildly sweet chestnut cream cake. It was perfect for ending a good meal on a great note. As for the service, the electronic notification system that we used when we needed something lends more authenticity to the whole experience. Service is top notch, efficient, and speedy. The decor of this restaurant is quite upscale, though they were ready with a plastic plate, plastic cup, and a set of Mickey Mouse cutlery for our little one. The private dining area looks good for a large group, and I'm excited about checking out the patio dining once the weather warms up a bit. The only reason this isn't a 5-star experience is that the food served is on the street/casual food spectrum, so the price point seems a bit high. Had the salmon belly Temaki which was SO good and my favorite slider was the Ume chicken--would have a full burger next time. the okonomiyaki was good as well--I think we took too long to start eating it so it wasn't as hot. Based in the sign outside their door, they are short staffed at the moment, but they have this awesome noodoe block that you can use to alert the staff of your needs (food, drink, check) without having to try and wave them overs their staff was also all very friendly. One of my best vacations was to Japan. Osaka's gave me a chance to relive a piece of it. We began with Negihama cones of yellowfin tuna sushi. A good start. Next came Onigiri. These were rice with a little cooked salmon, wrapped in seaweed. I felt like it was too much rice relative to the other components so I recommend passing on it. One of us got the tempura combo, with shrimp and assorted veggies. The batter was light, and the dipping sauce had nice balance. A definite winner. Another entree we ordered was the Kaisen Yaki with grilled shrimp, scallops, squid, and assorted veggies. A "must try." Our third entree was the vegetable ramen which was quite good. And last but not least , we adhered to rule #1 for our final selection. Rule #1 is that if a dish has the the name of the restaurant in it, order it. So we got Osaka's Ramen. It was nothing less than one of the best ramens I have ever had. The broth was deep and rich. The braised pork had just enough skin and fat to explode with flavor. There was a generous amount of delicate noodles, along with all the other elements you look for in a balanced ramen. The soft boiled egg was cooked just enough. Highest praise for Osaka's Ramen. Simply loved it. I've been to Japan 20+ times and this place made me feel like I was eating there. Hard to find a good okonomiyaki let alone one in America but they have a good one. I'd say more Hiroshima style as opposed to one from Osaka. My wife had ramen which she loved and we are ramen fanatics. Back home we will drive hours for a good ramen from Artisan Ramen in Milwaukee to Tomukun in Ann Arbor and now this place is on that list, but a bit farther drive. Yummy Japanese place! Boyfriend and I were traveling through Colorado and decided to stop here after a long hike. We both got Okonomiyaki. This place seems like a pretty authentic Japanese place. They've got ramen, noodles, katsu dishes, and much more. Typically you would need a reservation- but we got lucky when we came in as there was room for us. The way you order is seriously cool too. It's a block that has a sensor on it and depending on what you need- to order, more water, you place the block on the side that you need and a server comes to you. I have visited 3 times in person and ordered pick up once. I like the food but the service is terrible. Today was the last straw. Made a reservation to celebrate my friends birthday and requested a patio table. When we arrived on time we were told they didn't have any tables available for at least an hour. We could see that every table on the patio had menus still. The indoor dining room was also full. Thai is not the first time that we have had poor service. On our takeout order we arrived to pick up the food at the time they told us it would be ready. It was not ready. Waited in the parking lot for 30 minutes to get it.
