Hmm... mixed feeling about this place. The vibes and service were amazing! The jellyfish in the fish tank were so cool. Had a really nice time here. Japango is a solid sushi place in the heart of Boulder on Pearl St. It was my first time at Japango so I wasn't familiar with their cocktail program and it blew me away. Sushi joints aren't known for their cocktails but Japango takes it very serious. There are so many options on the menu it was hard to choose. I started with a fun spin on a Mai Tai called Mai-Tide. It was delicious and complex with some fabulous vacation garnish. Yes that is a seaweed strip. (Photo #1) My second was Yorokobi Joy, a spin on a Vieux Carre which is a classic whiskey/cognac recipe. It was boozy in all the best ways with some incredible ingredients. The first sip is the best because you're not ready for the herbal flavor explosion. The Japanese whiskey and cognac balance well with some wild flavors provided by a lovely Amaro (Cardamaro) and Saffron-Plum bitters. The kicker in a Vieux Carre is the Benedictine which glues all the amazingness together. Delish!! Because Japango is on Pearl and it was a football weekend, we had the perfect patio table on the sidewalk for the Friday night Stampede where the CU Buffs band and cheerleaders march down Pearl. What a great night. Go check out Japango when you make it to the always amazing Boulder. Salute . Visiting Japango is always a treat. From the sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere, to the knowledgeable and friendly staff, and the lovely patio on Pearl street, it never disappoints. Over the years, I've gone for happy hour with friends, birthday dinners with family, and date nights with my husband. Asian food is my favorite and I've been to MANY Asian restaurants and tried almost everything under the sun... but Japango... best sushi I've had in a long long time. We also got their steak which was 44$. SO WORTH IT and one of the best dishes I've ever had. Portions were amazing and worth more than every penny. Staff was also amazing and kind. My team's office is on Pearl street and we sometimes go to lunch here as it is close and a very tasty option. The decor is nice and the service is always on point. We tend to order many rolls so I cant speak to the quality of the fish as well as I might if we were ordering Sashimi but the fish always seems to be pretty fresh and clean. The rolls are varied and come with plenty of goodies. I tend to like a roll with lots of susi like the rainbow roll and each roll that I have had was pretty darn good. So if you want consistent and tasty sushi Japango will do the trick! read more

Located right off Pear Street, Japango is perfect to stop in after doing some shopping on the mall. Service is always quick and friendly. Inside is modern and clean with a wonderful fish tank. Food wise the Diablo roll is a must every time and I really enjoyed Kitsunes Kiss as well. Not pictured, but very much enjoyed, was a tuna hand-roll, sake hand-roll, and shrimp tempura hand-roll. Lovely patio on Pearl Street. Wonderful service with fresh tasty fish. The crispy Brussels sprouts were delicious and light, the hamachi jalapeño was light and flavorful- great fish. The chef's choice new style sashimi was so good- one piece each of three of us and we loved all of the fish! The kitsune's kiss roll was full of so many different flavors, we basically fought over it. Really high quality fish, which you would expect at Pearl Street prices. From the front door to the end of our dining experience, the staff here was amazing. We had our dog with us, so we had to sit out on the patio. The front patio was a bit cold yesterday and the kindest male staff let us know there was a back patio with sun and a fireplace. It was perfect back there! We ordered quite a bit to try from the inari, pork shumai, fried chicken, California rolls, beef teriyaki, tempura. All of it delicious. But, the biggest surprise was the cocktail. This was our first time at Japango, we were very impressed with our waiter Charlie, Charlie assisted us with recommendations to try and all his recommendations were amazing. We tried Homemade Shumai with spicy mustard. fyi the spicy mustard is spicy, we thought it was a joke when they told us. it was spicy and is the real deal. Also we tried the Homemade Gyoza, and the pork belly. They were delicious. If you like pork belly you will love the sauce used. The sushi we had were amazing. Also if you have room for desert we recommend to try the Bento, you will love the truffle (delicious), the chocolate ganache and mochi. The ambience at Japango is great, we would recommend make reservations before arriving. The staff were great to accommodate us without a reservation. We can't wait to comeback again. read more

The Boulder Bowl was my favorite, packed with flavor and perfectly balanced. They also have really good non-alcoholic drinks and tea options. It can get a little loud on weekends, but that just adds to the fun atmosphere. Prices are a bit higher, but it's totally worth it for the quality. My friend suggested to come here and I'm glad she did. The 3 of us got seated right away in a lounge seating area with a table. It was so comfortable. Our server Vincent gave some great recommendations of sushi rolls. We ordered everything he recommended and they all tasted great but my favorite was the Himalaya which had a good spicy kick to it. We also ordered the salad which had a good ginger sauce. The edimame was also good. We also got some mock tails which was very well crafted and tasted delicious. We went here for the all day happy hour on Mondays. The crispy brussel sprouts were a little salty, but overall a good crisp. Then we got 3 rolls and the Monster was my favorite! We finished off our meal with the green tea creme brulee which surprised me. It was sweet and not too strong/earthy, very delicious! We did also get to try the green tea ice cream, courtesy of our waiter, David. I love Japango! Best sushi spot on Pearl street for sure! Their rolls are super unique and so delicious. I can't even remember what we ordered, two of them are not listed on the menu since the menu online and the one at the restaurant are not the same. All of them had some form of spice in them and were the perfectly balanced. The fish was so melt in your mouth and tasted pretty fresh. I'm kind of picky when it comes to sushi since I've been to really great sushi spots, but this place hit all the marks in terms of a great place for creative rolls. The drinks were awesome too and they have a big drink menu that's organized based on flavor. I had the spicy vodka one in the fruity/floral section and my friend had the rose one also in that section. Both were wonderful and were great to sip on while eating sushi. I found that mine was kind of like a green juice just like what our server said. It did work and was good but I would say it's not for everyone even though that one was recommended. I would probably go for something else next time because of this even though I did enjoy it, because it wasn't really quite my taste. My friend loved this cocktail though. For dessert I had the bento dessert box. The chocolate cake was a bit dry but the ice cream from glacier was so so delicious so it was ok. I didn't taste the miso anywhere in the dessert. The mochi ice cream was blood orange and that was good too. Not a huge fan of mochi because it can be chewy and hard if not done right and has to be from a good place but this was really great. The sesame truffles were also good but I thought the truffles would have sesame flavor and not just be covered in sesame seeds. And why didn't they toast the sesame seeds so the texture was better? I would say the desserts were ok, and the sushi and drinks were awesome and want to go back for that. The service was good overall and our server was super friendly. I didn't like how they sat us at the end of the sushi bar by where the servers go in and out when the rest of the sushi bar was empty and they made it seem like the restaurant was full with reservations on a Thursday night but the tables weren't full at all when we left. $865 Bill for What Should've Been $120 - Total Scam My party of six came in for happy hour, expecting $4.50 handrolls and a ~$20 tab per person. Instead, thanks to our waitress (pink hair, septum piercing) and the kitchen ignoring instructions, we walked out with an $865 bill. The waitress' biggest mistake? She told us "wild salmon" was included as a happy hour handroll option. Wrong. Those were $25 EACH. That bait-and-switch alone padded our bill by hundreds. Add to that the hamachi carpaccio (which we ordered without soy sauce due to an allergy, yet it came drenched in soy), plus several items we never ordered, and the whole night was a disaster. When we raised this with the manager, we only got a $125 comp--a joke compared to what we were charged for mistakes they made. No replacement items, no accountability, nothing but cheap, low-quality sushi at an absurd price. This place is dangerous (ignoring allergies), dishonest (misrepresenting happy hour prices), and careless (wrong items, wrong prep). The waitress needs retraining or firing, and the management clearly doesn't care about guests. If you value your money or your health: avoid this place at all costs. read more

Yelp knows better) The host gave us a few menus, one of which was slightly damp and stained, but hey, things happen. But oh man, I was perched, but the water tasted chemical-ly. I was genuinely concerned about its taste, so I asked for a new bottle, which turned out normal. I ordered the Himalayan roll which wasn't inedible, but just didn't taste very *good*. Fish quality wasn't terrible, but the flavors weren't balanced. I wondered who trained the sushi chef based on the excess rice/interesting roll technique on some of the pieces. The service could have been better; the waitress never brought my friend's miso soup which came in her combo and didn't apologize for the strange water. A lovely experience for around $30. Shared a bunch of plates and all were good, and probably all (including the sushi and sashimi) were significantly larger than we expected. I liked the Brussels Sprouts to start, though would have been better if they were served warm. The tuna salad had nice pieces of tuna tataki, a lot of tomatoes (which I like) and good avocado but little or no dressing. The new style sashimi again was a lot of sashimi, but I did not find the fish that special and the sauce was more oil than flavor.
