This is hands down my favorite sushi place in the area. I moved here from LA where there is a mecca of great sushi at different price points. The quality of Tasuki has always been phenomenal. I've been a handful of times and the chef selection of sushi for the night is always on point! I love the otoro and salmon belly and the wait staff is always so friendly and attentive. I've recently started venturing off and ordering one new thing on the menu I haven't tried on top of the normal orders and it's all been a wonderful surprise. I get excited to go here and we always try to make a reservation since they have limited capacity due to covid-19 regulations. No other sushi place in the Boulder area compares. I'm a regular at Tasuki so it's about time I left a review. This is definitely a hidden gem in boulder, I say so because I'm surprised not more people are aware of this delicious joint. Upon entering the staff greets you and usually are seated pretty fast. They have two menus, one for sushi, and one for other appetizers, and main entrees. The sushi never fails to impress. After traveling abroad I can say this sushi has the most authentic feel. They are generous with their servings and always have a wonderful presentation. The waitresses are always attentive and helpful. The atmosphere is great for a dinner date or a client meeting. Tasuki is yucky. First, it is crazy hard to find. It just has a handwritten sign- Yelp led me to find that it is upstairs from Taste of Philly. Parking is tight, you may have to park and walk from the next block. The restaurant is cute but filthy. I saw a handwritten sign that they will be closed for renovation at the end of Feb/beg of March. The carpet is sandy and stained. The ceiling has lots of leaks. I went to use the bathroom and instead of soap, they only had purell. The rice on the sushi was very chewy. The salmon seemed fresh, everything else was meh. The price was too much for what you get. My family and I needed a bite after the CU Basketball game. I was craving sushi and came across this restaurant on Yelp! The restaurant was beautifully decorated and very calming. It's quite a hidden gem. The service was wonderful, my water was always full (very important). Our food came out very fast, but we were the only a ones so I cannot vouch for their service on busy nights. The food was delicious. There wasn't a dish I didn't like. I know this has been said before by another reviewer but I asked just to see for myself and they confirmed they do really get their fish flown in every Thursday! I love that is place isn't on Pearl st. (for starters) and the waitress was sooo awesome, being very patient and going back to the bar to get some very specific questions asked. This pains me to write because I used to be a regular here for years. Tasuki's food is delicious, but the service is now atrocious. We waited an HOUR and 45 minutes and never received our food. We ended up standing up from our table in the middle of dinner and leaving the restaurant frustrated and hungry. A horrible night because the service was chaotic and unorganized. It was embarrassing. The table next to us received the wrong food THREE different times over the course of waiting 1.5 hours. On the third time, because they were so hungry, they resigned to eating what they did not order and left unhappy. This was not the only time. A roll was delivered to our table. We also had to correct them that it wasn't ours. They ended up taking it back to the kitchen then re-delivering it to the table behind us. There was a third couple that starting eating their delivered food and realized it wasn't theirs. These mistakes of serving of unordered food to multiple tables caused a whole chain of events of tables all missing their food and getting wrong orders. How do you mess this up when you as a customer have to write your order down on paper? The restaurant is completely understaffed. They can't support the amount of tables with 3 waitresses and 2 sushi chefs. I want Tasuki to succeed, so my recommendation to them would be: 1) Stop doing too much. The menu is huge and making your chefs have to make so many options is the reason for delay. Stick to sushi. 2) Stop bringing in more customers/to-go orders if you cannot serve the current ones sitting in your restaurant. Get more staff or reduce your demand. 3) Stop focusing on getting as much business in the door and shift to focusing on keeping people happy tha do come. Because in the long term, you'll have repeat customers. I know my family, who's been loyal for a long time, won't be returning 4) Figure out your processes and what you can change to make them better. I recall it being upstairs of another restaurant and small with several tables and the sushi bar. We opted for the sushi bar, which I prefer. So if I could give 3 1/2 stars I would. In Yelp-speak, 3 is "OK". The ambiance was nice, the staff was very courteous, and the food was underwhelming. We ordered a couple of rolls and some sashimi. The rice was too sticky and a bit like glue. They only had one type of soy sauce and it was the saltiest soy sauce I've ever had. The rolls were okay but not well put together and a bit boring. What really disappointed me was the albacore sashimi. When it arrived is was partially seared. Ummm... sashimi is supposed to be raw. Not only was mine partially cooked, but it also was not carved properly so I had chewy edges which ruined the whole "melt in your mouth" deliciousness. Disappointed and not totally clear why it has so many 5 star ratings. Maybe we showed up on an off night? Terrible service, came in on a Saturday night, so I totally understand that they are busy and can forgive some wait times. My partner and i served in busy restaurants for years so we understand, but no servers actually provided good service and there was no visible manager or anyone in charge. The servers seemed flustered, so i dont know if they are new or just have poor management. We spent 1.5 hours there in the corner with our 6 month old, and even she had more patience than us. All we had was cold, over salted edamame and 1 special roll. Granted the 1 roll was delicious, but we ordered a sashimi platter that never came. You'd think servers seeing an empty table for 30-45 min with no food and a visible baby getting uneasy, they'd check on our order or even us as customers, but we were completely ignored for 45 min. we ultimately wasted our time and paid only for what we ate, and left hungry and disappointed. My friends and I were staying in Boulder and happened to crave sushi one night. We found this place on Yelp and decided to check it out after seeing that it had relatively good reviews. For a small restaurant, they were pretty busy when we arrived but we didn't wait too long for a table (probably less than 10 mins). However, there seemed to be only one server taking orders while the rest of the staff were either bringing food out or bussing tables. It took at least 20-25 mins to even get our drinks ordered, maybe another 20 mins to order our food and another 35ish mins to actually GET our food (except the miso soup and dumpling appetizers came within about 15 mins). By this time, we were starvingggg. The miso soup was pretty flavorful but the dumplings were mushy and not at all appetizing. I ordered the Orgasm Roll which was definitely NOT orgasmic at all. For what it's worth, I would have much rather ordered two basic rolls like a shrimp tempura roll and something similar as it lacked the flavor and melt-in-your-mouth goodness I was expecting. My friends ordered the spider roll (too salty) and the # 9 roll (pretty decent). Overall, I wasn't too impressed with this place and don't think I would recommend it to any real sushi lovers out there. read more

I came to Tasuki a couple years ago when I used to live in Boulder. I am from California and there is no shortage of amazing, high quality sushi there. Tasuki would easily be able to match that. Definitely the best sushi I've found in Boulder. I like rolls personally, and they do incredible rolls here. Fish is always fresh and the sushi rice is absolutely perfect -some places have great fish and then the rice consistency, temp, age or something is off- but theirs is always spot on. Most of their rolls are pretty simple but excellent. Our favorite by far is the caterpillar so we usually get two orders of that but we've also had the spicy salmon and spicy tuna and they are both fantastic. Prices are incredibly reasonable too. This restaurant has some of the nicest servers and some of the best food in Boulder! It isn't as much of a bright, shiny object place like some on Pearl St. as it is a neighborhood-type restaurant you'd find in smaller towns in Japan. We love their traditional takes on dishes like Natto and Okonomiyaki, and their "Chef's Recommendations" menu always has delicious seasonal options worth trying. Their sashimi, nigiri and rolls have been consistently well prepared. We haven't saved room for dessert the four times we've eaten here, but I might tomorrow when I intend to go back again. read more

As a result of my wailing about the veritable wasteland of ethnic cuisine which is Boulder, a neighbor recommended Tasuki. This was my first time ordering and picking up from Tasuki and I must say I was happy with the overall quality of the food and the service. I ordered the Gyoza, Rainbow roll and Tekka Maki. I always order the humble Tekka Maki when I go to a Japanese restaurant I have never been to before primarily to see how the chef treats the roll and whether the fish is actually textured right and the balance of spice/sauce/fish/rice are such that the fish still manages to leave a mark on the palate without being overwhelmed by the rest. To that extent, the Tekka Maki was excellent. Because I did a pickup (should have known better and this was my fault), the Gyoza was only lukewarm by the time I got home to eat it. It was definitely one of the best Gyoza's I've had - the skin was light, crisp but not too crisp on the pan side and soft on the other. The filling was juicy and bursting with flavor. I think I ate it too quickly. This is one dish I will order when I have an opportunity to eat at the chef's table in the restaurant (post Covid) to truly appreciate how well it was prepared and the deliciousness of each piece. Lastly, the Rainbow roll. Overall, I was happy with it but not as happy as I was with the other two dishes. The fish was very fresh (thank heavens). The balance was a bit off for me. There was more Hamachi and Tekka than Sake. And the avocado was a bit overwhelming. The bit that I absolutely loved was the addition of a couple of Shiso leaves on some of the pieces that took me straight back to Japan (Kyoto, to be specific). Given that we're in the middle of Covid and things are generally unpleasant all around for everyone, not to mention struggling restaurants, I truly think that once we're back to psuedo normal, I will probably be able to feast on a better version of the Rainbow roll at the chef's table. All in all, a very gratifying and delicious dinner. I will certainly be a regular patron given the experience so far.
