Found this place on our ride back to Denver from Rocky Mountain national park. It's placed on the top floor on the left side of a complex with a small sign outside the door. But don't let that fool you this place is top notch! Very clean and quiet, perfect for a date! Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The waitress brought us samples of the Sake when I wasn't sure what I would like and all of the food was fantastic! Would definitely come back on my next visit! This is by far the best sushi spot in Boulder and the best sushi I've personally had in Colorado. Went last night for the second time and sat at the sushi bar. We were literally surrounded by people speaking Japanese so that was a good sign! We ordered almost all of the special fish they had (nigiri and sashimi) and each piece was divine. This is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants outside of Japan. I look forward to coming here every time I visit Boulder. The entire staff is incredibly kind and hospitable with amazing service. This is my new go-to sushi place in Boulder. Their fish and rice feels superior to the other local places I've tried and the price is pretty reasonable. The tekka don bowl has thick slices of tuna, the seaweed salad was amazing, my favoirte miso soup in town and I personally enjoy the salmon roll + I add avocado. We went here for date night, and it was terrific! We tried several appetizers and rolls, and they were all great. The service was fantastic, and they quickly replaced a roll that came out with wasabi in it once we pointed out that it wasn't listed on the menu. This was my favorite place for years but has gone downhill post-pandemic. I did take out during the pandemic and it was hit or miss (Sometimes very good and other times not). Not consistent. Since restaurants have re-opened for seating they only have 1 sushi chef and a helper (Who makes rolls). Service is very slow and the quality is again hit or miss. To make matters worse, they decide each day whether they will do take out if you don't order by 5:30 PM they will likely say "We are too busy and can't handle a take out order" If they had more than one chef this would not be an issue. I found another place in Boulder that is much better and likely won't return. On a good note, it is primarily Japenese run and staffed but unfortunately the chef falls short of consistency. read more

Where do I even begin... Moving from the Bay Area to landlocked Colorado, we were not expecting much in terms of seafood options, let alone sushi. Tasuki has exceeded our expectations on all fronts, and I would argue that it's of comparable quality to Sushi Den and Matsuhisa in Denver, at a much more reasonable price point. The chefs and servers are mostly (if not all) Japanese, providing an authentic and customer service focused experience. I highly recommend the omakase nigiri, any of the items under the chef's selection section, as well as the chirashi. So happy to have found this spot in Boulder!! read more

Despite the unassuming inside of the restaurant, the sushi was amazing and tasted very fresh. The waitress was also very kind and conscientious of wearing a mask and keeping her distance. This is by far the best place to get fresh fish in Boulder. We tried three rolls, three kinds of nigiri (2 pc each), and the seaweed salad. The nigiri was by far the star of the show - highly recommend the black snapper when they have it available! We also ordered the orgasm roll, which other reviewers seemed to love but I thought was just average because it had too much mayo and other stuff on it that masked the seafood. Regardless, I am very happy with the experience (even though the orgasm roll came out about 20 minutes after we had finished all of our other food). We will definitely be back, as it was a great value - everything cost around $60 for two people! The location is strange but very easy to find. This is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. The staff has always been extremely friendly. Plus I enjoy getting to practice my rather terrible Japanese with Yukosan! (Hisashiburi desu ne?!) Moving on... Their hot sake is the very best I've had. At other place, it's always reminded me of nail polish remover. But not there. And they seem very proud of the fact :) sushi is always fresh. My fav things to order include okonomiyaki, chicken curry (kare), yakisoba, saba shioyaki (absolute fav), and yaki onigiri. They never disappoint and it's actually reasonably priced! Wow, Wow, WOW, I'm almost speechless with this Diamond of a Find GEM!! We were suppose to go to AMU and I was peeved that my husband sneakily brought me here instead, so I threw a hissing fit by the front door saying I want to go to "AMU" when luck on my hubby's side there was a lady walking out and said "This place is WAYYY Better than AMU, you should really eat here," Obviously we did and hate to admit this place was and is in a whole world of heaven on it's own! I've been trying to find a place similar to Ichiza's in Vegas that made the Broiled/grilled rice balls and karaage and this place has it! But it's BETTER!!! Never thought I'd say that about a Japanese eatery here in Colorado. Guess it does pay off having my 100% Japanese hubby who knows his culture and what I'd like and not. So EVERYTHING we had here was delicious and 4 of them VERY memorable, that I'll be making this a staple in my life now. A+++++++++++ Yaki Onigiri - my mom calls it burnt rice. LOL So this is Literally no doubt about it the best one I've ever had and I've had my fair share of rice balls. They put soy sauce in the middle too and the flavor is delicious. Wonder what kind of shoyu they use because It didn't taste like kikkoman (hate that brand) taste like Aloha shoyu instead, but I could be wrong. I asked for some ponzu sauce, which put this over the Edge good. It's sooo moist, not for those watching their figure because you know this bad boy ain't healthy..lol It's juicy, flavorful and with ponzu sauce, the citrus is that icing on the cake good. The service was really good and fast, the atmosphere is casual, but it's not very quiet so if you want to be intimate or first date this wouldn't be the place to go. But definitely 2nd dates and there after you should make it here. It's a shame I've only just found this place, well hubby told me about it for a while, but it's an absolute CRIME that I've dragged my feet coming here and almost made the mistake of going to AMU and not here!!!! So once upon a time, I was on a QUEST for takoyaki (round ball-shaped snack with batter filled with octopus bits and topped with sauce and bonito flakes) in Colorado and after exhausting Google, I ended up finding Tasuki and omg I am so glad I did. The place is a hidden gem - so hidden you have probably never seen it. The sushi is delicious - I usually get their chirashi which has such a delicious variety. Of course I always get their takoyaki because it's super good and it's the only takoyaki I have had in Colorado. Piping hot, so you need to wait, but it's so worth it. The salmon sashimi portion is pretty good for the price - the slices are very thick. Also really good: agedashi tofu, gyoza, and hamachi carpaccio. The only thing I tried here that I didn't like (and actually found to be a little repulsive) was the natto (fermented soybean), but I think that's just an acquired taste I have yet to acquire. Is it the best sushi I have ever had in my entire life? No, but it is certainly the best sushi I have ever had in Colorado. Definitely give this place a try! The food sometimes takes a little long (I mean everything is handmade), but the quality more than makes up for it and the service is always excellent. read more

If you are not from Boulder, you can easily drive by Tasuki and not know it. Tasuki is in the same building of Taste of Philly. Look for the Taste of Philly sign, which is larger and more pronounced, and you'll find this awesome Japanese restaurant. It is on the second floor. Finding a good Japanese restaurant anywhere in Colorado is a challenge. If you are looking for one, this is a good place to go. Just be mindful that you are Colorado, no where near the ocean. The staff is extremely nice and friendly. The decor is simple but tasteful. The restaurant is clean and the seating is comfortably spaced so that you are rubbing elbow is other patrons. They do have a parking lot. You would come here if you like sharing dishes. They do not have bento boxes. It's like Japanese "tapas." Order a bunch of small plates and share it with everyone. It's more enjoyable and you get to try out more stuff. This place doesn't focus heavily on meat. So don't expect a menu full of teriyaki meat dishes. I definitely liked that takoyaki. It was delicious. The sushi is above average. The give the sushi roll a solid "B" grade. The caterpillar roll is good. I tried the spicy tuna roll. It wasn't spicy at all. I wouldn't get that roll again. I liked the deep friend crab legs. Overall, I liked the food. The sushi rolls are around $10. Grill and deep fried dishes around $7 each. So it does add up when you try a bunch of stuff. It is not the cheapest, but I think it is worth it. If I'm on Boulder again with a craving for Japanese food, I would come here again. read more

This is about the only place my Japanese wife and I go out for sushi, as trust me, it is the real deal. Nobu-san is the chef in the kitchen joined by Saito-san at the sushi counter - they were both part of the original team that started Sushi Tora. We've liked everything on the menu - in particular the chirashi box is right up there with the best we've had in Japan. I would give 4 stars on account of the decor, but realized, who cares. My spouse and I consider this to be hands-down the best sushi in Boulder, and we can't stop ourselves from going nearly every weekend! Saito-san makes the meanest sushi in town: it's fresh, delicate, and delicious. We love sitting at the sushi bar because all the chefs are so nice and knowledgeable ... plus, if it's dinnertime, you get a complementary tiny appetizer to start. I wish I could tell you that I am only into the authentic Japanese sushi, but we enjoy both Americanized sushi and (what I'm assuming are) traditional Japanese favorites. As far as Americanized sushi goes, I love the Rainbow Roll and the Spider Roll! Traditional favorites include any of the sashimi (though yellowtail and albacore top my list), the nigiri (Saito-san adds just the right amount of wasabi), and the egg custard. Honestly, though, I've never had anything I don't like here, and the specials are always very good as well! If you like sushi, please give Tasuki a try; you'll absolutely love it! Have heard about Tasuki for a while but finally made it there with a group of friends for dinner...knew owners Nobu-san and Hiroshi-san from when they were at Sushi Tora, so was happy that they were back together again, cooking away in the kitchen...and to see Saito-san behind the sushi bar! They appear to have menus in both Japanese and English, which I thought was a nice option...and it was very exciting to see many more "traditional" Japanese items offered, which are usually not offered at most sushi restaurants...so we started off with an assortment of starters: homemade gyoza, cream croquettes filled with some crab meat, covered in a nice panko coating and Japanese version of sauce with tonkatsu sauce as well...takoyaki ("octopus balls), one of my personal favorites....round balls filled with octopus pieces, covered in delicious Japanese seaweed, okonomikyaki sauce (I think) and the ao-nori (seaweed flakes)....definitely a must try, they are soooo good and just like the ones you get in Japan! Also had the edamame, hiyayakko (chilled tofu with grated ginger, chopped scallions and dried bonito)....a terrific summer app to eat for those tofu fans....kaki-furai (panko coated deep fried oysters)...everyone seemed to like them...I am not an oyster fan so skipped those :) Kushi katsu - panko crusted pork cubes on skewers with the tonkatsu sauce....nice and light and tasty! Also, another two of my personal faves: hama-kami...yellowtail collar, grilled with teriyaki sauce....love to eat this as a meal, always eat it down to the bone it's so delicious, even the skin because the skin is toasty and has lots of flavor! And the saba miso ni....mackerel cooked in a miso broth...the moist oilier fish balances deliciously with the miso broth...definitely a must try if you like mackerel! Probably would like to come back and just do the cooked stuff as a meal but we also had some delicious sushi of course! One of our friends had the katsu curry (cutlet on rice with curry)...I didn't try any but he ate it all up so pretty sure enjoyed it! Nice big filling portion... On to the sushi: we pretty much ordered an assortment of most of the nigiri...maguro, hamachi, ikura, wasabi tobiko, ika, anago, unagi, tai, amaebi (which come with the tempura'd heads), tamago, shake, katsuo (bonito...which is not usually offered at most sushi places, so excited to try this, one of my faves!)...also had natto-maki (fermented soybean roll, getting harder to find this so was happy to be able to eat this!), the orgasm roll (yum! california roll, covered with salmon and special spicy sauce and baked)...and finally, katsuo tataki (bonito sashimi....thick slices of bonito doused in ponzu sauce and covered in sliced onions, chopped scallions and garlic)...all the sushi was fresh, the nigiri pieces were thick and generous and the rice was nice, not too packed, not too much rice...like that the sushi menu is relatively basic and has rolls but not too many crazy rolls...more like traditional offerings before places started offering 20+rolls that were quite complicated....not that I don't like the many roll varieties offered out there...definitely enjoy them...just also appreciate the fact that Tasuki is sticking to a more simplistic menu so to speak...there are so many different options for their cooked menu that it is nice to have the sushi be just that....fresh mostly raw fish coupled with sushi rice, some wasabi, gari (ginger) and shoyu (soy sauce)... Didn't check out any dessert offerings tho' the young child at our table thoroughly enjoyed the generous green tea ice cream...the adults were just too full....but we did enjoy a nice after dinner cup of green tea! Tasuki is located in a former Thai restaurant...can't remember what the Asian restaurant was after...so location is not bad, fairly easily accessible from Folsom and ample parking around...wait staff was friendly and nice, we went on a Saturday evening fairly early, so all the tables filled up....interior is nice and bright due to the big windows...no low tables with cushions like 20 years ago but your standard tables with chairs...:) Nice casual atmosphere, no feelings of people frantically rushing around, etc...Know there are a lot of sushi restaurants in Boulder County now, but I highly recommend trying Tasuki out...I would like to come back to try out their lunch menu and also just come back for dinner....and you can practice your Japanese with the staff if you are so inclined! read more

If you want sushi that's fresh, authentic, and delivered with care, then Tasuki is calling your raw-fish-lovin' name. As somebody who's grown up on the East Coast, traveled to the West Coast and Japan often, and could eat sushi nearly every day, the sashimi and carpaccio here is pure heaven. Complex in its simplicity, melt-in-your-mouth, and full of flavor. The decor isn't super chic and location is in the strip mall across from McGuckin's (meaning parking can be a hassle if the sport bar behind it is getting filled up), but you're coming here for the food and the lovely people preparing and serving it to you. The owner/head sushi chef always greets my girlfriend and I like we're old friends while all the servers have always been nothing been nice to us. Even the non-sushi lovers can find something to fancy here. I brought my best friend from out of town here and he indulged in the soba noodles and couldn't stop raving about them. Protip: always try to get a seat at the sushi bar, if possible. You'll be in for a visual treat as both sushi chefs take their craft seriously. Also, the younger one, Rainer, can act as a sushi-o-logist of sorts who will figure out what you like and make amazing suggestions based off that. read more

Not sure about the food. Never got waited on. We were seated and given water by the woman at the door. Who then seated a couple after us. Same woman took their order and served them drinks while we sat at the very next table. We patiently waited another 15 minutes in which time we seemed to be invisible. All the while tables seated before and after us were served and waited on. Finally got their attention when we stood up to walk out. We were asked if everything was OK. The restaurant has Japanese chefs and servers, and the food is absolutely authentic. The fish is always really fresh and served in wonderfully large slices (sashimi and nigiri). This is one of my favorite sushi spots in Boulder for the quality and integrity of the food. I would recommend going at a time when it is not too crowded/busy. This is definitely the best Japanese restaurant I have been to in a very long time! This is real, completely authentic Japanese food, in a perfectly simplistic environment. The lunch menu was pretty good with lots of rice bowl/plate options, including sashimi bowls, and very very good sushi (trust me, I used to eat sushi at least 3 times a week when I lived in Taiwan). I got an Okyako don with my sushi, and it too was amazing. The egg was just the right amount of runny and the chicken was super tender. The staff is incredibly friendly, and you can tell that everybody in the restaurant takes a lot of pride in providing you with a great meal. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. First of all - the post of gold fish tempura/ sashimi at the entrance is a complete joke, people!! I was surprised and asked the wait staff, who confirmed that it was the complete joke. But I also noticed some customers looked really really nervous when they read it. It is not an appropriate joke at the sushi restaurant! Before going to Boulder, I did a lot of research which Japanese restaurants that I should take my son to. I am Japanese and I hate fake Japanese restaurants or what they call "Asian fusion" which means they did not study any authentic dishes. And this was top on my list. I was surprised that this was the sushi restaurant in the traditional sense. The main is sushi/sashimi, and you do get tapas kind of dishes, but not "meals." So you order sushi, and some "tapas". You can order tapas, rice, and miso soup to make a dinner along with some sushi. As my son wanted more like regular home cooking, it might have been a bit miss for that particular purpose. But it says "sushi bistro" so it was completely my false. By the way, we learned that they would reopen for lunch and would offer home cooking meals like katsudon, udon, and katsu curry. Everything was very good and authentic. I had grilled sanma (pike), and it was perfectly grilled. I would have given 5 stars, but one star deduction is for the joke which I found a bit bad taste considering it was a sushi restaurant! Service was superb and friendly. Highly recommended. read more

I've gone here three or four times four dinner and it's always awesome! Tastes and feels very authentic Japanese. The staff greets and thanks you in Japanese. The dining room was full of Japanese people, which is always a good sign with ethnic food. The interior is super basic but still feels intimate. Our food took a little longer than normal so a waitress came and apologized and gave us free edamame. The menu is a little weird, divided into grilled, simmered, deep fried, and other, then the sushi menu is a piece of paper where you check the boxes you want , you know in the traditional ancient Japanese style. We got a whole grilled squid, which was tender and perfectly seared. Got the simmered pork belly, comes in a crazy savory broth with spinach and hot mustard, holy shit it was good. I don't recommend the calamari, actually everything I've had there fried is pretty plain, the tempura batter just has no flavor. Orgasm roll is appropriately named because it made me make an OH face. Salmon nigiri also pretty good. Eggplant and minced chicken is delicious and comes in a broth but strangely in the deep fried category?? Excellent selection of fish and great staff. The place is a bit smaller so I'd get there early or later but if you come late, you do risk the chance of a fish running out, so be warned. They have the common items as well as the specialty ones. The Otoro is excellent and delicious and the selection of other options are a sushi lovers dream. The older chief, Kuichi, is super nice and informative. The chefs there give great suggestions and take time to make quality sushi. Although we did not get the kitchen foods, the listing of items looked awesome. Next time I go, I will definitely have some of their yakitori items from the kitchen. I've been to Tasuki many times but the last time there were a few issues - among a few other things there was a long wait for the menu and drinks, and the platter we ordered was scant and not, as advertised, Premium, for the $60 price. When we mentioned it to the manager, she basically said that's how they serve it and if we didn't like it we shouldn't come back. We won't. It's a shame because we've had good meals there in the past. But the manager's truculent attitude was too much and we didn't enjoy our meal at all.
