I can't really comment on the place, service or environment since I only order delivery here (usually my number one choice of sushi place on just-eat.ca for lack of better options). However, regarding the food, I find it pretty tasty and I like how they have a variety of specialty rows to choose from. My favourites are the Osaka row, Volcano Row and Dynamite Dragon Roll. This is for delivery, so the quality of my experience may not be the same as if you ate in the restaurant. I ordered tuna, hamachi, tamago, ika, whole scallop, chopped scallop, ebi, hokkigai, and toro nigiri sushi and a tuna don. As soon as I opened the container containing the nigiri I immediately got hit by a wave of fishy smell meaning the fish was not very fresh. Most of the pieces smelled fine but the scallop was the source of the smell and I decided not to eat it. The tuna in the donburi were put directly on the rice and after the delivery time the bottom of the fish was half cooked and the fish was warm. My favourite sushi place and I've tried MANY. I Their nigiris are amazing. I mentioned that I couldn't eat artificial crab (gluten allergy) and they switched my dish with one with real crab sooo fast and without charge of the initial dish. Prices are average, but quality is high. read more

I was here for lunch the first time the other day. Food 3/5: I had the chirayashi don. Three pieces of tuna, 3 salmon, 1 snapper (?), 1/2 hokkagai (surf clam), 2 tako (octopus) over sushi rice. The fish was fresh, but I don't think the salmon was wild. The tako was chewy and unappealing. Value 4/5: Generous portion. They also have fantastic lunch specials, which I might get next time. Service 4/5: Friendly and attentive. Atmosphere 3/5: A small little restaurant up in Burnaby Heights. Good for a quick, casual lunch or dinner. My boyfriend and I frequent this joint quite often because it's close to home, affordable, and has a brown rice substitution option! Their rolls are creative and stuffed with ingredients! They do not use too much rice so you can really taste the flavours. However, their BBQ sama is a disappointment...I ordered it twice and both times it came out extremely dry and flavourless. Service can be a bit more attentive though. Servers sometimes have their backs to the customers for long periods at a time. read more

This review is long overdue. I stopped going to this probably over two years ago but I'm still bothered by it. Myself and couple other friends decided to go have sushi and I picked this place. We walked in when they were about 30 mins from closing. The employees appeared shocked when we walked in. The chef said something to the waitress in Chinese and the waitress told us they were closing and weren't going to serve us. Now I understand the closing routine I grew up in the fast food industry and it was a pain when someone walked in the door before closing. But never did either of the companies I worked for ever turn away customers 5 mins before closing, let alone 30 mins. And I never went back. 2/5 stars from me because I did really enjoy this place. read more

We had the opportunity to eat here three times this week--twice for dinner, once for lunch--while my wife did a ceramics workshop gig at nearby Capilano U. I have had more authentically Japanese sushi elsewhere, but for everyday sushi at very reasonable prices, this place seems hard to beat. All our fish was impeccably fresh and every dish skillfully prepared and beautifully plated as appropriate. There are a very wide variety of rolls on offer, including some rather exotic ones, yet everything we tried "worked:" no sacrifice of harmonious flavour for the sake of mere variety or flash. Service was friendly, snappy, and accurate. both for eat-in and take out. There is currently a four-course daily lunch special for $8.95 (drawing from very broad groups of choices) and a 10% discount for orders placed a day in advance. And the place passes my green tea and miso soup litmus test. This place rises impressively above the mediocrity we expect at this price point, offering terrific value. I was never a fan of sushi until about 6 months ago, but Osaka is as good as it gets. Great value and their food always fills me up. Cucumber roll and yam tempura roll and I am set for dinner! Went there for dinner with my hubby last night,the restaurant was busy,so thought it should be nice decent,price was just ok,i wouldnt say it's cheap if u compare to "sushi &" , so we had chicken teriyaki,the chicken has no flavor,but it still eatable,couple orders of rolls and sushi,my hubby ordered pickle roll,egg sushi,and eel roll, which were cooked and safe to eat, but then I ordered uni sushi and salmon sushi and spicy tuna roll,all raw style, im a big fan of uni,so first thing I took one uni sushi (I ordered 2), as soon as I put it in my mouth,i almost want to spit it out,that was the worst uni I ever had,it taste really fishy and even worse u can taste that rot taste,but I still swallowed it, (actually when we were waiting for the food,I smelled something really fishy from chef's counter bar), so I told the waitresses about that uni was really bad,and I don't want the another piece nomore,and she took it away,and removed 2 orders of uni sushi from our bill,and the salmon wasn't too fresh either,the meat wasn't cold as it suppose to be,and totally no flavor,but I still finished it. Anyways,we finished our food pretty quick,and they had few ppl waiting on line,so the waitresses was kinda rush to clean our table and sent the bill. The point is,it's 1:30am right now,I just had crazy stomach pain,and diarrhea + vomit, I was sweating a lot and felt like hell, finally after I vomit (mostly were uni),i took some pills, feeling better now,and decided to write a review ,and hope the owner can see this, stop serving the food that's not fresh! I absolutely love the food at Osaka. If you happen to be here or order from here, the fantastic veggie roll is a MUST. Any of the friends or co-workers I have taken to this place have become instantly hooked. The only drawback is that their delivery isn't exactly timely; you might wait upwards of an hour. Having said that it IS a really small place and they only have one driver, so if we do end up ordering, we always go for pick-up. I have been to most sushi places in burnaby and hands down this is the best place I've been to. In fact I wish I'd known about this place sooner! This is the place to go for really tasty, authentic Japanese. Its also really reasonably priced, and the service is fast! They have a wide selection of bento boxes, specialty rolls, as well as lunch specials. Even their Japanese beers are pretty cheap compared to most other places. The restaurant is a little on the small side, but cozy... It's a real hole in the wall. This is my favourite place to go. Everything is so fresh and yummy. Highly recommend Osaka!! read more

I am not impressed. (1) sushi should be made with sushi rice, why white jasmine rice? (2) It tasted like Chinese more than Japanese, too oily and too salty. And the Spring roll is not fully cooked, the inner skin is still raw. read more

The place is a hidden gem located on E. Hastings. I'm a sushi fan and have tried various Japanese restaurants at all price range, but the sashimi and rolls at Osaka were second to none! What separate themselves from others is the freshness of their ingredients including rice and fishes. They do not use overnight rice or rice that has sat for long time like some other places, you will only find freshly cooked rice which is tender and soft which makes a huge difference in sushi and rolls. There is an amazing assortment of appetizers to choose from and all tasted well above the average neighborhood sushi restaurants. Price is very reasonable from the quality and portion you're getting, you'll be surprised how much better their food quality is compared to some high-end japanese restaurants who spent their effort and attention mostly in decorations and renovations. They do have to-go or delivery orders available. They are always packed during lunch/dinner time I would highly recommend making resos ahead of time. read more

My boyfriend and I came here around four in the afternoon looking for a quick meal with sushi. I ordered the Dynamite California roll,I also ordered the prawn tempura. The rolls were very good and put together with the right amount of portions in them which made them very manageable to eat. The prawn tempura was amazing as they had the right amount of batter and crunch to them. My boyfriend had the pork ton katsu with rice. The pork was cooked well and a reasonably sized portion of the pork and rice underneath the pork. Our experience was enjoyable and were given great service by our waiter. The place is small and was not busy when we came in which is recommended for the atmosphere and service given. Overall it was a great meal and will come back again. read more

An avid sushi lover, I was surprised to stumble by this place in my neighbourhood, and am surprised that there isn't a line up out the door, but that suits me fine! We have been going here for years but unfortunately they lost their loyal customers today due to poor service and problems with the food. Today I ordered 2 California Rolls and appetizer tempura from their lunch special. My husband ordered Beef teriyaki udon, a California roll and appetizer tempura. Upon finishing my California rolls I bit into something very hard. I spit it out and searched through it only to find a pebble. I called our waitress over to show her and she asked where it came from. I told her my food. She was going to walk away. No apology or anything. My husband told her the least she could do was take it off the bill. She agreed and walked away. Then my husband went to pick up the basket of appetizer tempura they left on the edge of the table. He picked it up by the handle and the basket tipped over and all his food fell onto the table. I then tried it myself to see if maybe he just picked it up wrong and the same thing happened. The waitress came to ask if we wanted the tempura to go and I told her no because it fell on the table and showed her what happened. She laughed and walked away. When we got the bill there was $1 deducted from it. Terrible customer service and we will not be returning! read more

we used to frequent here often however the quality of food started to go down hill, not sure if their trying to save money. today we ordered agadashi tofu, vegetable comb, special roll including california roll. my mom put a roll in her mouth and there was not only one long black hair but two!!!! I immediately called and the lady that answered could hardly speak english. i told her we found a hair in the roll and she kept saying "no this isn't hair sushi." I had to tell her three times we found hair in our food and finally she got it. the only thing she said was sorry. i told we're going to right a review, she didn't care and told me to go ahead. My advice, there are a lot better sushi places out there, you may have to pay more but the quality will be better and you'll have less of a chance finding unwanted hair! read more
