Whenever we feel like having sushi takeout, this would be the place to go. Decently priced party trays and a good variety. I have ordered the same tray pictured for my birthday one year , and a couple times take out - the Maki tray B. Comes with 74 pieces and a mix of raw fish rolls and cooked rolled like chicken teriyaki. A tray of this size takes about 25 to 30 min to prepare. Sometimes other places charge a lot more to have raw fish rolls and less overall pieces in the mix but I didn't think that tray was a significant charge. Always covers my sushi cravings :) With a purchase of over $50 gets 1 bowl of free miso. You can order via their website but you have to make an account so I usually opt to orde via phone. I've never actually dined in but the place is have cozy vibes. And parking is part of a lot with a bakery and circle K. The space just infront of the restaurant has maybe 5 or 6 spots but be warned it can be a tight spot to turnaround at if there is more than 1 car turning. Located on Hastings & Holdom - Small shared parking lot -so parking can be a little frustrating during peak hours - however street parking isn't too far off - could also easily get here by transit. Restaurant was playing K-Pop hits which was a nice vibe - pretty quiet place , so can easily carry a conversation here. Service team was attentive and knowledgeable of the menu - and was able to make suggestions - the tofu soup here is pretty good ! :) This time got the Sashimi & Sushi combo - Sashimi was fresh and quite tasty - Tempura could of had a bit more batter as it tasted kind of mushy and didn't really have a crispy kick too it. The chicken Karrage was disappointing - was pretty dry with no crisp. Spring rolls carried the same disappointment failed the crunch test. The meal was quite filling and the price point seemed fair. My nose is quite sensitive and it gave me a headache during my meal The house special roll was tasty with the bacon and it was fried well The sushi pizza has the fried rice base, melted cheese on top and chopped sashimi. When I asked the server what the chef usually serves on the sushi pizza, they checked with the kitchen and said scallop, tuna and salmon. To my surprise, the seafood was all cooked. Surprisingly nice Korean sushi place at the top of Capitol Hill. Parking is available in the dumpy lot in front of the strip mall. There are also the side streets. The interior is actually decorated quite nicely. Looks like a Japanese garden, with the nice pretty fake trees. Special mention. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food here definitely scores points with the presentation. See photos. Tuna tataki - served with roasted garlic flakes, some random vegetable bits, and a lemon slice. Chunks of fish were bite sized. Nice tangy sauce. Salmon toro ginger carpaccio - once again, nice tasty chunks (slices?) of fish. The ginger slivers add quite a kick. This dish is more like a salad, with the lettuce leaves. House special roll - nice and decently big pieces. However, the top half is really just a pile of crumbs. Be sure not to sneeze or breathe while trying to eat each piece. Negitoro, negihama rolls - served in maki form. Food is fresh. Alaska roll - served in regular roll form. In other words, just like a typical California roll with a salmon slice and some tangy dressing and tobiko on top. Food was fresh and delicious. Quality and value were definitely there. Many places close early now during the pandemic, so we ended up here as it closes at 9 pm. We got here around 810 pm and managed to get a table. Others who came around 830 pm were told it would be take out only, not dining in. So we were lucky. We decided to try a bunch of stuff especially the specials which looked really good. Unfortunately the oyster tomato carpaccio was sold out and that was what caught my attention. We had these instead: Salmon toro ginger carpaccio $11.95 -- fresh salmon belly (7 pieces) and not that thinly sliced either. The ginger sauce was similar to those dressing on salad. Absolutely delicious. Tuna tataki $14.95 -- it was unexpected. A huge plate with a generous serving of seared tuna slices with ponzu sauce. 12 slices to be exact. Some were cooked through but not over cooked. Still great. Came with some pickled veg and onions. House special roll $14.25 -- pretty epic roll. Highlight was the bacon wrapped around the fried rice roll stuffed with avocado and crabmeat. It was topped with spicy tuna and all the crispy stuff. So good. Then the filler rolls and maki to round up the meal. The Alaska roll and negitoro maki were ok. Quite typical. The negihama maki had a bit of fishy taste to it. All these for under $60 was a pretty good deal as I was so stuffed 3/4 through that I told my friend to finish everything. I would like to come back again to try the oyster dish and other rolls. I have been to this sushi restaurant multiple times. I really like it! It has friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. I especially like the cherry blossom tree in the middle of the room! They have a very large menu which also includes korean options. This time I stuck with sushi. The Mango Dragon roll was interesting but the sauce a little too sweet for me. I loooooved the crunchy dynamite roll. The only reason I gave 4 star instead of 5 is the nigiri tasted off to me. Miso soup was good and flavourful. Definitely the best tempuras in town! The batter was light (majority are way over battered like I'm eating more dough than the actual item), super crispy and not greasy. Hidden gem in Burnaby North. I dare say, best on Hastings in Burnaby North! I have no idea what the past negative reviews are talking about. I have no relations to the owners, just a happy customer. I ordered House roll - nicely constructed although possibly a bit smaller than other sushi places but the nice presentation made up for it! A nice assortment of assorted sashimi, crab meat and tamago, I really enjoyed this roll. Chopped scallop roll - A nice amount of plump and lightly mayo-ed scallops in a well constructed roll. Again, the rice was well flavoured, not too soft and not too mushy. Good texture all around! Overall, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the sushi here. Food: They must have just updated their menu recently since there are more options when we went than what's listed online (including their own website). Sushi and Sashimi was fresh. Speciality rolls, Udon and tempura was also good. Best deal was probably the bento box which was huge (much bigger than those usual square boxes and came on a big dinner tray), but had a little of everything. Atmosphere: clean and comfy. I visited Sushi Giwa for the first time under new management and just before the pandemic so I had the chance to sit in and enjoy a meal inside their restaurant. The service was friendly and welcoming. We got seated right away as it wasn't crowded. I think many people were already opting take out options at that time. We were a group of four and ordered lots of food! We all shared salad, sushi and bento and it was quality food! I really liked my avocado sushi. The orange plate was so good, too! The orange slices plus mango syrup went really well together. I also enjoyed the dragon ball roll. The roll itself it quite filling cuz you're basically eating one whole avocado plus rice in one sitting. I have ordered the dragon ball roll twice now and will keep ordering it in the future. I was craving Korean food after Grayson and I's workout the other day but there wasn't any Korean restaurants in the area so I opted to go to Sushi Giwa since I knew they had a few Korean menu options there. Sushi Giwa probably wouldn't have the best Korean food out there but I was working with what we had. I got the bibimbap because I couldn't have any of the tofu options on the menu. The rice bowl was $14 which is pricier than some I've seen but there was a decent portion of carrot, spinach, cucumber, mushrooms, beef, and rice in the pot. I could have done with more kimchi though because I can't get enough of that stuff. The rice bowl came with hot sauce on the side so you can still enjoy the dish if you're not a fan of spicy food. The pot came out sizzling hot which was good because it meant that the rice could get crispy along the edges. Grayson ordered the mackerel rice special but there wasn't enough food on the plate to fi ll him up so he also ordered a house roll. This was supposed to come with kanpyo (Japanese dried squash) but there was no where in sight! He ordered this roll solely for the kanpyo so he was quite disappointed about that The rolls themselves resembled the rolls from the combo in that the rice was too wet and mushy so not a fan of that part...but on the bright side, they were jam packed with filling ingredients read more

Came here after volleyball and was very impress with the decor. They had a very nice cherry blossom tree in the middle of the Resturant.. pretty cute. Customer service was awesome and we got our goodd preempt quick. I had the salmon teriyaki bento box ($17) the salmon was over cooked but everything else was yummy. I had a delicious takeout lunch from Sushi Giwa. The takeout order took about 20 minutes. I ordered the Chef's Roll and Tonkatsu Entree. Both dishes were nicely presented and were a good portion size. The Chef's Roll is very unique as it's wrapped in rice paper (for those wanting to eat less rice). Inside the roll, there's tuna, salmon, wild salmon, shrimp, avocado, cucumber, and chopped scallop. All of the seafood was fresh. It comes with a wine sauce with yuzu mayo and mango sauce which is delicious. They give a lot of sauce so I used the leftover sauce as a salad dressing! The tonkatsu was a generous portion as I was able to split it up into two meals, and comes with rice, salad and miso soup. The restaurant also gave me an extra miso soup which was an added bonus! The decor at Sushi Giwa is absolutely adorable though, the square spoons are very difficult to use. We ordered the awesome roll, crunch go go roll and the takoyaki. We also got miso soup to start. I wouldn't say that the sushi was the best. I really wanted to like this place after hearing so many good reviews from friends and co-workers, but something about their sushi just didn't compare to their neighbour and my all time favourite sushi joint, Sushi Town. Tried out a new sushi place in North Burnaby. The sashimi is the size of your palm. Our son had their salmon and tuna donburi. It's huge and all very fresh tasting. We also had negitoro, kappa and California roll. All very fresh and service was great. They also have some Korean dishes available so nice to have some variety. The inside is very nice with a cherry blossom tree and feels very cozy. For the 4 of us the bill came to about $44 so very reasonable. This is honestly the best sushi restaurant my family has ever been to. We are from Seattle and have visited BC on a number of occasions. I picked this restaurant on a whim, and my mother (who wanted chinese food) entered begrudgingly but after we both had the lunch bentos we both came out like, "wow, this is the second coming of Christ." Next time we went to BC, we dragged my father here, and he was grumbling because it was a LONG drive, and he said "it better be worth it". Well, everything about this place is great! The service, the tea, the food? 10/10!!! I don't know if sushi restaurants just suck in Seattle or what because every time we've gone here we have always come away full and happy, not something you can say about a lot of Seattle sushi restaurants. Ordered a spicy chicken with rice, the typical Korean dish. It was good but the portion was for 12 year olds. No joke. The rolls there were good but one you should definitely try is the crazy grill roll. Deep fried dynamite roll so good :) Service was doo doo in the beginning, waited forever for our free Cali rolls. Too bad there's no option to give half-points in reviews. I feel like this place is more of a 3.5. Sushi Giwa is relatively close to my old high school, but Sushi Town is usually my go-to sushi place in the area so I've only been to Sushi Giwa twice. They actually have 2 locations, one further down Hastings so don't get them mixed up! The interior is nice, quite roomy and there were pretty Sakura trees as decoration. They were able to accommodate 8 of us and I believe charged no gratuity fees. Both times that I have been here I've ordered the Small Party Tray (salmon roll, tuna roll, yam tempura roll, california roll, dynamite roll, BC roll - all for about $23) to split with a friend. You get a nice variety, the only thing that I didn't enjoy was the BC roll. They don't do substitutions though, everything else was tasty. (3.5/5). One of my friends ordered the Ton Katsu. The pork cutlet was huge!! I tried a piece of it and it was yummy. It also came with miso soup. Tip: They only take debit or cash!! Service: 3.5/5 - nothing to complain about! We called in and ordered a mass order of takeout for my boyfriend's family for both lunch and dinner and within 30 minuted everything was ready for pickup. They were so kind and even gave us a bunch of salads and miso soups on the house! For myself I got their chicken teriyaki don and an alaska roll and salmon avocado roll. The chicken teriyaki don included a spring salad and 2 pieces of veggie tempura (yam and potato) along with the rice, bean sprouts, chicken and teriyaki sauce. It was so delicious and filling and I loved that it came with the add ons. The alaska roll was so delicious as well, it consisted of avocado and cucumber inside and on the outside was salmon with a special sauce (same sauce as their salad dressing) and it was so delicious. The salmon avocado roll is exactly what is in it's name and was good as well. I definitely will come back and try different items on the menu next time and not get 2 rolls that are so similar but overall everything was good! read more

Arrived at 8:30 on a Saturday night. The hostess seemed a bit overwhelmed settling payments from customers as well as dealing with the take out orders. She told us it would be about a 10 minute wait. Turned out to be 25 minutes and we had to go ask her after a few tables had left, but we simply chalked that up to new restaurant growing pains. Decor is good, the blossom tree is a real nice touch. The seating is very spacious and you don't feel squeezed in or cramped at all like the place a block away. The servers were very quick and attentive even though the restaurant was fairly busy. Tea cups were frequently filled and empty plates were quickly removed from the table. We mostly ordered rolls, sashimi, and some nigiri. The portions were on the big side as is fairly common with a lot of these Korean operated Japanese restaurants. The sockeye salmon sashimi was very good, and the rolls and nigiri we sampled were a solid 4 out of 5. The smoked salmon nigiri was a real treat as they offer up a real generous portion of smoked salmon although it did also have large amount of formed rice under it. The rainbow roll was also good, and each piece was alternately topped with red and black tobiko (roe) which made the dish look as appealing as it tasted. Prices were very reasonable and overall they match up quite well with the likes of Sushi Town, Sushi Garden, etc. We certainly look forward to coming back to try out some of their other menu items. read more

Agggh. So disappointing. Our beloved Sushi U was closed last Sunday so we decided to give Giwa a shot, and we wished we hadn't. We called in for takeout but used the Skip The Dishes app as a menu (we try to order directly from the restaurant as much as possible so Skip doesn't take a huge cut). The item descriptions were completely wrong :( Every item we ordered was completely different than the description and we honestly couldn't finish anything. Super bummed. The only thing I am upset about is the recent menu change. All the prices are different and they no longer have a plain, cheap yam roll nor do they have yakiudon. These were the only things I ordered. In addition to that, prices got bumped up horrendously as well. Waiters and waitresses are very nice, and the restaurant is clean. Service is also quick. The house roll, though tasty is just a mess and the oversized california rolls under the melange fall apart from swimming in the sauce. The tuna roll had fibrous tendonish pieces I had to spit out. Go to Sushi Kilala, not here. Not really sure how this place has any good reviews. We ordered the chicken yakisoba and received the +$2 yaki udon instead and let it slide rather than make a fuss. It ended up being the only thing worth picking through. The roll combo came with rolls that seemed made before order so the seaweed was chewy and the fish was warm and honestly had a bit of crust to one edge. Tempura batter was too thick and not crispy. The unagi don was just gooey and not at all hot. In fact, just to get the image across: everything we got was room temperature. Nice and tepid. The food was served insanely fast, though so if you're looking to get quick and dirty sushi, I guess this is a good option. read more

The diversity in food they have is pretty good. Lots of different rolls and sushi that arent found in typical places except for one slight thing. Or shall I say the most important thing. The RICE was not cooked. We had a take out order of around $70 and every single piece of sushi had undercooked rice. $70 worth of sushi with uncooked rice in it. Unbelievable. Their rice is sticky, matted down and uncooked. I have never eaten at a place with rice as poor as this. Before you leave the place with your take out, instead of making sure you have all your food, make sure to check whether the rice is cooked or not. I went to their newer location - where Yo Sushi used to be. I am assuming food and service is same across the board. I went in for take out on Monday night after work. I was greeted by the hostess almost immediately. Super friendly staff, and very helpful imo. Since I went in for take out, I can't say how their dine in service is. Pricing is fair, it seems pretty standard with some of the other sushi joints in the area. Portions were filling, just right, with some room left over for some desert. I ordered the California Roll combo. It came with 6 pcs of California roll and 4 pc nigri. As for Nigri you normally get 2 Tuna and 2 Salmon, but at Sushi Giwa I got 1 ebi, 1 tuna, 1 salmon and 1 fish I couldn't identify. It looks like a nigri that you'd get in a fancier combo. Wait time for my food to be prepared didn't take long. I think I was out the door before my cup of tea cooled down enough to be drank. read more
