Their hot subs are yummy. They better be yummy. They are called Sub Cafe, after all. But I love to go here for two specific things: pancakes and coffee. Pancakes: I really don't know what they do with their pancakes, but it's the absolute perfect two pieces of golden brown goodness a restaurant can offer. So simple, yet so perfect. It's literally two pieces of buttermilk pancakes that come in the Breakfast Combo #1. Maybe it's because they grill it on the same flat top grill that they cook their meat on? Maybe they have a secret ingredient in their pancake mix? Who knows. But I absolutely love having breakfast here. Coffee: Cortaditos and cafe con leches all day errrday! The only gripe I have about this place is how hectic it can get when ordering my coffee. So if you order food from where the sammies (and the pancakes!) are made, you pay for your coffee there, but have to turn around and pick up your coffee at the coffee counter. Sounds easy enough, but when this place gets busy, your coffee might get lost and/or it might take forever and a day to get. I was there the other morning and there were people all around the counter - people that ordered food and people that came in through the other door just to order coffee. A guy that came in after me got to place his order first, and unfortunately it took a while to get my cafe con leche. But no big, the lady working the counter apologized for the wait. The absolute worst experience. There was one person ahead of us and after waiting for 15 minutes they advised us to sit down and someone will take our order. Another 15 minutes went by until someone finally came by our table. After waiting another 30 minutes of my lunch time, come to find out the waitress had forgotten to give the cook our order. Disorganized and VERY rude. You have a better chance of getting better service at Vicky's bakery across the street which isn't saying much. read more

My husband and I have been coming here for years. One of our favorite spots for a great sandwich, juice and/smoothie that we can go to in our sweatpants and feel right at home. This place makes great made to order cold & hot sandwiches & fresh juices/smoothies. They are located on College Ave. & University Dr., right behind the pollo tropical in Davie. It's a mom and pop joint with six tables inside and about six tables outside. The decor in nothing special but they have a TV and a fish tank for your entertainment. The seating outside is great on a nice day but your not really looking at much but the parking lot and College Ave. It's clean, friendly and they make your sandwich and/or juice/smoothie right in front of you. It's a popular place usually packed with the college crowd and those in the know. Fair prices, good food in a super casual environment. read more

The food was good, but everything was crazy disorganized. There are multiple people putting the sandwiches together, and every time your order gets moved to the next person, you need to restate what it is. It just doesn't seem efficient. I also waited almost 20 minutes for a smoothie. The smoothie I ordered had four ingredients, and the girl making the smoothies kept referring back to the menu. She also kept putting my smoothie aside when someone came up to the window to place an order. So she put together the ingredients then left them on the counter for over 10 minutes while she helped other customers. It was a hot day, and all the ice just about melted by the time she blended the smoothie together. I'm thinking that maybe she was new because she also seemed to have no idea where the ingredients were. She looked through every single cabinet she had for the coconut water. "La proxima ves llama" translation "next time call". This was repeated to us not once, not twice, but FOUR times during our visit to this location by the Spanish lady at the counter. We arrived at the location at 3:35pm and they close at 4. We were rushing there since we live out of town and cant go there often. When we walked in, we were asked if we were getting hot sandwiches, which we were, and they said the flat top would take about 10 mins to get hot. We said we were okay with that since we loved their food soo much. They seemed good with that so we placed our orders. Before we even paid, the spanish lady started saying that we should have called before we came and we said we were going to but since we got there 25 mins before closing, we figured we were fine. When we paid, she said once again that we should have called. Then at 4 pm, she told us to wait outside until the food was ready and once again said that we should have called ahead. We are now waiting outside and when she hands us our bag of food, she said again for a FOURTH time, next time call ahead. At this point I got frustrated and told her " next time don't take our order!" We paid and tipped well and we were still treated in a way where we felt bad even have ordered the food. We had apologized and showed gratitude when they took our order, but that didn't seem to be enough. If they were upset about us walking in to order, they should have turned us away and we could have gone to LaSpadas. The food has always been good, but when we went to eat our food, it was super super salty. I could only get through half of my sandwich. The cuban coffee was great, and wasn't as sweet as I am used to which is how I prefer, and is I would say the best in Davie. I got the Cuban steak sandwich (because I looove me some pan con bistec anytime!) and i was actually a little disappointed. I'm guessing it was because we came in right when they were switching out for the lunch rush but it wasn't piled as high as I hoped. Either way, the flavor was great and my boyfriend got the Rachel sandwich, which was a lot more impressive than the pan con bistec. Either way, if you're craving a steak sandwich for cheap, definitely check this place out. Added my own toppings of lettuce, tomato, and olives, it was a complete sandwich. The flavors of the roast pork was good and the hot sauce was also very good. Let me start by saying I go here about 1-2 times per week and is the only place you should be going for "hot" subs in Davie. However, today I order the cuban steak sub which is amazing and I recommend it to anyone who goes (be sure to add the homemade chimichurri/potato stix). But what I got today was a steak that had already been cooked, normally it's prepared from raw steak. The owner literally reached under the stove area and pulled out a fully cooked steak and threw it back on the grill. Double cooking the steak obviously made it very chewy and tough, but it didn't stop there they also gave me the same bread that was probably meant for the previously cooked steak, the bread looked like it was toasted but when I picked it up to eat it I realized it was cold and hard from being toasted sometime before I had even arrived. I'm just really disappointed that they would try to pass off poor quality, in order to save a dime. That's one thing I've noticed since going here, it seems as though the customer is not always the primary focus, lucky for them there is no quality competition for hot subs in Davie. read more

I'm shocked that I've been to sub cafe as many times as I have and have never reviewed it. All aboard. Some of my friends introduced me to this place because it's less than a mile from school and my place and apparently they make great Cuban coffee/"Cafe con leche". Roughly translated, it means coffee with milk, which is exactly what a caffe latte is in Italian. The main difference I later learned is that we Italians use espresso and the Cubans use-you guessed it-Cuban coffee. Typically I'm a black coffee girl but I decided to take their recommendation and have the house specialty. I wasn't disappointed. There's a reason this stuff sells like hotcakes. It's piping hot which for me is too hot at first but is a lovely blend of caffeine, aroma, and milk. It's a pleasure to drink and gives you a wonderful kick if you're dragging in the morning. They make it in about 2 minutes and there is no line like there is at every chain store that may or may not have started in Portland. The best part about this place is their BANGIN breakfast sandwiches. They're not your $1.99 egg and cheese from D&D but wow are they good. Fresh bagels, fried eggs or over easy-however you want them made right in front of you chipotle style. So delicious and so many choices. Then you can sit outside or inside and enjoy your morning (or whatever time of day) for as long as you choose to linger. Love it. read more

Cafe con Leche! Only thing I've been here for but I stil need to try out the subs! I love the fact that there's this cute little order window right outside the restaurant so you don't have to deal with being seated or talking to anyone beside the barista to get your coffee. Anyway, what's also good about this window is that you get to see your coffee being made right there! Very fresh and I just love watching the process of making Cuban coffee. It definitely adds to how enjoyable the coffee is :) The lack of one star is because I got a cafe con Leche one time and it was on point. PERFECT. Been coming here for a few years as my regular lunch place and the staff is great, being funny and also efficient/quick with the orders. They have a variety of hot and cold subs, ranging from 6", 8", and 12". The tuna melt is good and what I normally get from them, but a great place to try different subs. I have been told their coffee is good as well. They make the food in front of you, and are quick to serve. The price is reasonable and you do get a good amount for a sandwich. Their hot subs are delicious. I always get the Cuban steak - love the chimichurri. However, each time I felt that they skimped on the meat. I thought maybe it was because it's steak and they're trying to conserve money. Turns out it's just because I'm small. Once, a male customer in front of me ordered the same thing and got a pretty hefty portion of steak, so I thought maybe it was my lucky day. When it was my turn, I noticed the guy rummaging through the meat supply and pulled out a skimpy piece that ended up filling only half of the bread. Not cool. They have a separate section for fresh fruit juice/smoothies and coffee. There's almost always no one there though, so it takes forever to find someone to make something for you. I've gotten a cortadito, which was pretty good but not worth the 10min it took for them to make it. It seems like they don't really have a system for making the items, resulting in each one tasting different from the next, even though they're made by the same person in consecutive order. Overall, they definitely know how to make a sandwich, but I'll probably get my bf to order for me in the future and go somewhere quicker for coffee. read more
