2 1/2 stars. Sub Cafe is a sub shop in a small plaza on Nova Drive in Davie. It distinguishes itself from other sub shops in several ways: 1. It has all day breakfast including eggs, bacon, chorizo, and Cuban bread. 2. It has Cuban coffee and pastries 3. It has smoothies 4. There is a large variety of hot subs and they will make what you want to order. 5. There is seating for about 25. I have been to Sub Cafe several times and the subs are usually solid. The best options are the hot subs. On this past visit we all ordered hot subs. Husband had the Medianoche and 13 year old had a hot ham & cheese. 11 year old and I went custom. I created what I call a "Juban": Ham and pastrami on Cuban bread with grilled onions. 11 year old had the same thing with bacon added! Our subs were greasy and tasty, but I have to admit both my son and I had bad stomach aches later that night. Was it the grill, the onions, the pastami, or a combination? Husband and 13 year old had no issues. Service was very friendly but there are are a couple of things I found disappointing on our last visit: 1. The meats are not cut to order. When 11 year old ordered an Italian sub we were told the meats were not cut and they did not want to make it because it would take too long to cut the meat. 2. 13 year old ordered tuna and they were out of tuna! Both of these (and the stomache ache) normally be fatal errors for me. However, I have had good experiences in the past and Sub Cafe does make good Cuban coffee. I am sure we will give the place another shot sometime in the future. However, next time we may have to stay away from the pastrami! read more

I absolutely love their food!! The menu has a great variety of food. I always get a chicken salad sub. It is my favorite around. It is pretty expensive though ($12 for footlong). I had breakfast there this past weekend and OMG!!! I had egg, sausage, and cheese on Cuban Bread. I will definitely be getting that again. The staff is always friendly and make sure you are satisfied. The only issue I have is they have 3-5 people behind the grill and it takes maybe 5 times to repeat your order because of distraction. read more

The workers were extremely rude to my coworker and I. We wanted to take a picture in their car booth and they ran out yelling at us when we did. There is no need to yell at your customers. If they did not like that I took a photo, they could just have politely communicated this to me and kindly ask to delete it. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST. The service is as bad as it can get. It's supposed to be a place to grab a quick sub but the older gentleman serving dropped the ball. Everyone was complaining at the service. After 30 min he had forgotten to put our order in. 5 parties that came after us had left and we still hadn't received our order. Then the server gave us a discount shown in the receipt due to the bad service. When I went to pay the old man at the register Osvaldo with the gray hair and glasses might be from Chile or Uruguay due to the accent it got even worse. He started to make excuses on the bad service and took off the discount from the receipt out of spite because he was upset that I was upset. He said maybe we should've ordered at the counter to avoid the bad service. When I asked for the owners contact he said "it does not matter if you don't want to come here again someone else will". Which I never said because the food is good. He avoided giving me the owners number. One gentleman named Roberto that seemed to be a cook was the most respectful saying "im sorry we've messed up". That's how you show customer service not making excuses and treating the customer bad. I am so upset and request to speak to the owner. He did not want to provide his info. That says a lot about this guy and the place. I have proof of all this I am not making it up. The image I posted is the receipt where the discount was given and I have the card statements where he charged me without the 10% discount initially for bad service. Meh. Really disappointed with this place. But it's close to home, so I might drop in here again as I think they have other sandwiches that they do better. I came in for a quick lunch and got the media noche, which is always my go to sandwich. Unfortunatly, it wasn't that great. First...they got all the meats out of the fridge, it looked like they were pre-cut and assembled already into a stack. Then they slapped it in a mini oven to warm up. Unfortunatly, it was still cold inside when I got it. It wasn't as thick (read: stuffed with meat and cheese) as you'd get it at traditional Cuban spots and it had the wrong bread. The bread wasn't sweet. It was plain bread. Disappointed. I also got an iced cafe con leche. This was alright, but I didn't love it. Something about it was off. The kitchen is open - you are looking at it as you order. That means you will leave this place SMELLING LIKE FOOD. That's one of my biggest pet peeves. If you are on your lunch break, it blows getting back to the office smelling like food. Or in my case, if you are headed to a meeting after - you smell like steak and onions. They are tucked away in a corner on a tiny shopping center outside of the large Tower Shops shopping center. The most fun I have had waiting for a sandwich ever! 4.5 Stars. I thought I had hit every sandwich place in the area, but today, I stumbled upon this little hidden treasure. I was craving a cheese steak free from gristle and I saw this place pop up on Yelp. To my surprise, they are across the street from El Agave Azul and Cinque Terre; had no idea! They have two entrances, and I wasn't sure which one to go into, but I started with the one on the left. Right away I knew I was in the sandwich area. I stood there for a minute and no one came to help me, so I walked around to the other side. I noticed a dining room and the other entrance. The lady there showed me back over and I was immediately helped by the one I will refer to as "The Sandwich Master!" I told The Sandwich Master I wanted a plain Philly cheese steak with extra provolone, and he went to work. He placed the meat on the grill and with his metal spatulas worked the meat. It was a real treat to watch him work up close like that. He caught me taking a picture, and he went into full Benihana performance mode! LOL I only regret that the light wasn't better for my camera because I could have captured some great memories for my quick trip out for lunch. After grilling the meat, The Sandwich Master placed the cheese on the meat and used that wonderful steam technique to melt the cheese. That is one of my simple joys in life. (I know I need to get out more...working on it). He then placed the meat and cheese on the bread and posed it for me to take the next picture. He was so proud...so was I. I felt like we were both admiring maybe the best sandwich ever made. I had to take the sandwich with me, but I will say it was delicious. Bread was soft and very fresh. Meat was succulent and seasoned well and free from gristle. I don't know if it is the best I have ever had, but it was really better than any cheese steak I have had in the area. I may get mushrooms on it next time, as I noticed after placing the order that they have fresh mushrooms rather than the canned. YAY. I can't give this place 5 stars unfortunately, although I have high hopes I will be able to do that after more visits. This place is a clusterf#$k. Between the construction on Nova Drive blocking one entrance to the strip mall, to the tiny parking lot, to the long winding line in the narrow ordering area this place is utter chaos. If you have anxiety disorder, claustrophobia, or road rage definitely do not come here. However, if you are able to get over the clusterf#$kiness of this place, the subs here are actually very good. My favorite is the "Rachel" which is a hot pastrami sandwich with saurkraut, cheese, and thousand island. I throw in some banana peppers and hot chilis for an extra kick and man is it GOOD. The goodness of a lunch place can be gagued by the amount of cops and fireman having lunch there and this place might as well be a station with the amount of these dudes here at all times. There are almost too many choices here as the menu is huge. If you don't know what to order it is a high stress situation since you have to scan the 3 LCDs overhead while trying not to hold up the line or knock down any of the tons of crap that are hanging on the walls and shelves. Overall it's probably one of the better sandwiches in the area, but I just can't deal with the cluster on a regular basis. read more

The sandwiches arent anything to really write home about. Generally decent but sans flair. Some mediocre sandwiches, and pretty good coladas and cortaditos. My cuban came out to about 8 bucks with a small fountain drink and chips. (note: Nova students get a discount) One pro is the nice atmosphere outside on great weather days. Fountains, a big parasol, and plants on the patio lend to a fantastic ambiance, but you wont find me there when it's rainy. Push come to shove, this is not my preferred place to get a sammich. Pros: Great taste and wide variety and they make your food in like less than 5 minutes. So if you're very hungry or in a rush this is your place. Cons: Prices are higher than other similar places and portions are not that big. Irrelevant info: They have a train that goes around the whole place and a table that's a swing. I stopped in here for lunch and coffee and I'm so glad I did! Fresh cooked hot subs right on the grill in front of you--watching them cook I couldn't decide what I wanted, there's 3 or 4 I saw that I'd love to go back and try like the Philly and the Reuben. I decided on the Cuban steak and it was amazing. On top of that, the Cuban cafe la leche was worth a stop all by itself! It's not cheap food but it shouldn't be. It's great tasting and freshly made, rivaling subs I've had anywhere else. My only regret is I don't know if I'll ever have an occasion to return to the area but if I do, I know exactly where I'm eating! The guy managing this place is a complete Jerk. I didn't know the burger came with sesame seeds. I cannot have seeds. When I told him sorry I can't have seeds can i have a different bread he told me I didn't order right and continue to argue with me that I was wrong. I just wanted him to change the top bun. Could've gave an easy solution steering as their are several different types of breads available. After all, it's a subshop. The burger was awful too. Stay clear of this awful establishment. One of my favorite sub spots. Staff is extremely friendly and always willing to go out of their way to make your time with them an enjoyable one. The food is always fresh and prepared to specification! I personally love their Cuban steak sub with sub fries and hot cherry peppers on it. I have yet to be disappointed while visiting. My quest for the perfect Cuban sandwich brought me to the Sub Cafe after my dad suggested I try the one they make here. You order your sandwich at the counter / steam table and watch the guys behind the counter construct your meal. I was there at lunch time and they were still doing a brisk breakfast menu as I watched the cook behind the counter make omelette after omelette. After a short wait I was asked what I wanted and I ordered my Cuban sandwich. I was disappointed to see the person constructing my sandwich did not know how to make a Cuban sandwich as he needed to ask how to do it. Not a good sign. The final step in making a Cubano is to put it in a sandwich press, the guy making mine had to be reminded of this step. I was handed my sandwich and Cuban coffee and went to one of the tables outside to eat it. I've had better Cuban sandwiches than the one I was served here. While the ingredients were correct the quantity was sorely lacking in the meat dept. Most places I've had Cubanos put potato sticks on the side, not here, I had to ask for them to be included. I will not be back. But their Cuban coffee was good. read more

When I first moved to Florida, I didn't know about Cuban coffee and Cuban sandwiches. That was back in 2013. Now, I've learned. This place is solid to get a cortadito and a guava pastry. Sure they have a Cuban and a Medionoche, but they also have delicious Philly Cheesesteaks, which I personally think is the highlight of their menu. They make everything in front of you and you let the cashier know what you got. You can sit indoors or outdoors. This is a great place to get something to go or to catch up with a friend. I personally love it because I try to support local businesses and from native Floridians and Cubans, I've been told this place is authentic to them. Parking has never been an issue but it's a one way pair of outlets and it doesn't connect to the plaza with Home Depot. Overall, this is probably my favorite place to get Cuban coffee close to NSU. read more

I went here wanting a steak sandwich then found out it was a really pricey sandwich. I go a turkey sub instead. It was good. Maybe the next time I go in I'll get the steak sandwich and splurge on a $12.99 sandwich only. The two guys who were sitting next to me at the booth enjoyed their Cuban sandwich.
