Had high expectations for this place based on the great location and cool vibe/decor. Food was mostly out of the freezer section at the local Von's. Ordered the pub sliders from the Happy Hour menu- it was 2 White Castle burgers with a slice of folded up Kraft cheese on top and the pizza was clearly frozen and then popped in the oven. Pretty gross. The prime rib tacos on the HH menu were decent and the Pastrami sandwich, although dry was decent. The fries were great. Philly Cheese steak sandwich was disgusting and dry. SO disappointing because every time I come to Catalina, I order a slice of pizza & it's always been good. Service was never really good, However, I don't think anyone working tonight gave two fucks. Let me start from the beginning. We called around 5:30 pm & asked how late they were open, a female said 9pm. So just to be clear because we like to take a slice of pizza to our room, we asked when's the latest we can order a pizza. She said 8pm. hmm. An hour later, We were walking by (roughly around 6:15pm) & noticed their hours posted on the door. It said they closed at 10pm, so we double checked (now confused) & an older woman said they closed at 10pm... but depending if it's slow or not, it could be 9pm or 8pm. I completely understand when business is slow you have to call the shots & close a little sooner, HOWEVER! Stick to a time, regardless because there are loads of visitors & there aren't that many restaurants. It's just really confusing. Should I order now in case they're not open in an hour?? (Please note: the place was PACKED!) We go at 8:20pm, the younger, heavier set female takes my order (two slices of CHEESE pizza) & is a complete dirt bag. She seems miserable. She doesn't want to be there. She doesn't want to be taking my order. She gives me major attitude & says that in order to use my card, I have to spend $10. That's fine. I understand. I order an extra slice of pizza & my card gets charged. When I'm signing it, I realize, it's still under $10 so basically, I just purchased something else for no reason. That I didn't even want. I let it go. I'm waiting for my slices & a man yells "cheese pizza slice" I go grab them & ask for a box & i'm ignored. He walks away. So now I'm holding three plates with three slices. I can't get anyone's attention. I find some aluminum foil off to the side so I grab three sheets to cover my pizza since I'm walking to my hotel room. There's no red pepper so I ask the older lady at the window if I could please have some to take with me. She asks me "How many would you like?" & I say... "three please!" (Since I now have three slices) & she says..................... (brace yourself) How about two? HOW...ABOUT...TWO!? Why did you ask me if you're only going to give me two!?? Annoyed as all hell, I walk to my hotel & I think to myself.. well! At least I have pizza! only to find pieces of pepperoni stuck to them. I'm a vegetarian hence why I ordered cheese pizza. Now I'm pissed & writing this review. This is the last time I dine/purchase/whatever you want to call it at this establishment. Walked up and down Avalon twice at 10:30pm looking for a place for dinner. From what was available, and not much was at that hour, this was the best choice. Ordered from the to go window, since they would not let us sit inside because they close at 11pm but it worked out nicely as we took our pizza and soda to the beach. A slice of pizza and soda was around 3-4 bucks. Pizza was quite good and the cheese was nice and rubbery, just how I like it. We went here on our stay and thought since it was near the beach it would be good, but should have looked at the current reviews. Here's a tip, A basic pizza is $23, a "caesar salad is $5 dollars (but if you like your lettuce swimming in vinegar, you might like it), for the price of 2 pizzas and a salad you can grab some seafood and drink with good service at most other great tasting places. This place is literally like paying Ritz-Carlton prices for an Econolodge. Oh and don't worry about bringing up your concerns, they could care less. read more

Best Pizza I've had in as long as I can remember. Spice was just right, and cheese was generous; but not overwhelming. Our SIL surprised us with a box while we were watching a movie. I didn't really want any; but thought I'd have a bite. But after that first bite; I couldn't stop at just a bite. He had been on the island for a few days and so had already had pizza from here and was a big fan. Nasty Neapolitan pizza - good sourdough pizza and great horchata Finding dinner during primetime on a weekend night in Avalon was something of a challenge and we ended up eating here. Now that we know what to avoid we might come back. That in a pizza place the thing to avoid is the Neapolitan pizza is sad - but the crust was awful and the toppings not far behind. What saved us was the sourdough pepperoni pizza I ordered. Thick-ish crust - think Pizza Hut but much tastier - with nicely crisped pepperoni. I went a bit hungry but my family was fed. On a positive note, they have horchata - really, really good horchata. So good that our server tried to talk our kids out of ordering it because (evidently) a lot of people complain that it isn't sweet enough. But it was that perfect balance of rice, cinnamon, and sugar homemade horchata can have. And they have a reasonable selection of beers and red wines. Service was iffy - it took awhile to order, the pizzas came out at wildly different times, and it took forever to get our check - though the decor was kind of fun with lots of nostalgia on the walls. In short, with so many great places to eat on the island I'm not sure I would ever eat here again. Greasy hole-in-the-wall. This place is small, but we had no trouble getting a table at dinner time. We had the day old spaghetti, which is a lot more appetizing than it sounds. I grew up on Antonio's pizza...my favorite pizza is their cheese crisp, I try and get one every time I revisit the island. Today I did just that and let me just say that the two stars is based off of the service or lack there of that we received today. First off, the place is small to begin with, why the cook was taking up a full 6 top table to himself to eat his sandwich I'll never understand...the other two parties are both eating cheese slices which are suppose to be eaten outside or to-go...at least that's how I remember it. And a hound girl who knew the waitresses was taking up a table sitting on her phone "hanging out". The two young ladies waitressing could care less about assisting customers, they were too busy chatting and drinking their Starbucks strawberry lemonades to assist with seating us, so we sat ourselves... the one gal asks the other if she wants to take our order which her responses was no not really, mind you she's literally standing inches from our table. The cook then gets up and returns to the kitchen after eating his sandwich without washing his hands. Gross. The kitchen is open concept, we can see him. I ask the waitress if the mini juke boxes are on ( Antonio's is known for their music you can play on their individual juke boxes that are at your table) fun little feature. No music was on at all. She replied no they don't work. I asked her if the music worked at all and she said she would put it on, and then acted inconvenienced by that. Once we order our cheese crisp I notice the waitress eating off a plate by the kitchen window where the food is coming up...with her fingers. Her hands are going in her mouth. I was so grossed out by her lack of regard for the customers...the fact she was working...she is eating and then touching the orders coming up in the window with the hands she just hand in her mouth...she did this about 4 times while we were sitting their waiting. After seeing the cook eat and not wash his hands and then the waitress walking around on her phone and eating a plate of food with her fingers I was so grossed out I walked up to her and said....you realize you work in a restaurant where you are serving people their food right? And we can see you eating with your fingers. You work in the food industry and that is not sanitary...I'm sure Jack wouldn't be too happy with the way you guys are handling things around here...I'll pay for the root beers but I'm not eating that pizza after what I've seen. With a dead stare she says 7 dollars... 7 dollars for the root beer. I kinda laughed and payed her and left. Doesn't look like much walking by but you would be surprised. Loved the atmosphere inside, however, it is very small so if they receive large parties or a busy wave it might be a while for a seat. My girlfriend and I were able to sit inside and man... some of the best pizza I've ever had!! Absolutely delicious, between the variety of cheeses and the crust it was great. I could here that people ordering to go orders were about 10 min wait and there was only two cooks and one waitress so she might not be as attentive as other restaurants but she was nonstop working! We ordered a draft root beer a slice of pepperoni, a cream soda (they were out) so a bottle of root beer and a small jalapeno and bacon pizza. The draft was short poured. The small pizza came before the slice. Slice came plain cheese, so we sent it back. We had to ask about the slice 20 mins later. Asked for refill on draft rootbeer, and she said their now out. So instead of a 1.50 refill (3.50 to begin with) we had to order a bottle @3.95. Or no drink when pizza finally came. No one ever asks if you need anything, they speak Spanish among themselves. My family and I stopped by the Original Antonio's on Summer Ave for dinner. My young boys (ages 6 and 8) needed to wash their hands before eating, so they entered the men's restroom with my husband. Upon returning, all were stunned by the inappropriate pictures in the bathroom. I went to the restroom as well to view what was so uncomfortable for them. Honestly, I was shocked by the poor taste in photos objectifying women. The naked woman above the men's toilet and the sexual overtones of the picture in front of the women's toilet as well as the collection of Playboy pictures and suggestive imagery left me feeling violated. The poster that greeted me upon leaving the restroom to go back to my family outside shows a young boy lifting up a woman's skirt, which promotes objectification and sexual harassment. I hate that on a family outing for dinner, this was our experience. I'm disgusted by the lack of dignity extended toward women and the visual display of sexual harassment.Always, and especially in the #metoo era, this is unacceptable. If you plan to take your family, avoid the bathrooms. I wish we had noticed this before ordering our food and paying for it. We would have gone elsewhere. read more

Even though the sign is still up that says "Throw Peanut Shells on the floor" The meatballs and sauce are MUCH SPICIER than we remember. I've been going to Catalina since I was a kid and I would never visit the island without making a stop at Antonio's! The original has better pizza than the newer one by the waterfront in my opinion. This place has a fun atmosphere with black and white photos of old movie stars covering the walls. You can get a bottle of root beer and dine in or take it to go from a small window on the outside. We went there tonight and our server Olga was super friendly, quick to seat our party of six and get our order in. We'll probably make another stop there before we head home we love it so much!!! read more

I ordered 3 slices of cheese and 2 slices of pepperoni to go and waited. The place seemed busy with takeout orders and the employees don't seem to care to welcome you. Actually, the young Hispanic girl at the window is the person in charge of customer interactions and far too immature and impatient for this responsibility. Another older gentleman who looked like he was in his 60's or 70's wanted to "enjoy ordering your lasagna to go" and the girl paused for a moment stone-faced and stated that they sold out of lasagna. No apologies or smile or anything nice to say. I was embarrassed at this sorry scene and the owner should hold his employee more accountable than a vending machine. Clearly, this man had frequented Antonio's and tried his best to get on the good side of this jerk. What a waste of effort. After waiting 20 minutes, the girl at the window sticks out her arm out the door holding a small box saying "your order is ready". Looking around, I guessed it was my slices and left. Back at our hotel, I open the box and see that they piled the 5 slices on top of each other with the cheese slices separated from the pepperoni slices by a paper plate to save on space. When I was last here 5 years ago, I enjoyed the food very much, but my experience was much different this time. My pepperoni pizza was rubbery and tasteless and I didn't enjoy it at all. The service was bad and it took my family quite a while to get the check after we had finished our meal.
