Very pricey for what it is. Two iced lattes and a chocolate muffin ran me $30. Good coffee, but the muffin was bad. Service was great through, the two women working were so friendly. They have convenient seating inside, but you may as well take it out to a bench by the ocean and enjoy the view. read more

I stopped by because I needed something quick and easy early in the morning, when there's not much else open. I got a bagel to-go but once I was able to eat it, it had steamed quite a bit in the wrapper, making it not as fresh. Although, I doubt they are freshly made bagels anyway. Two mornings in a row we opted to stop at this small, convenient & super cute cafe at the bottom of the hotel. They have Intelligencia's Nitro Cold Brew FOR THE WIN! Their matcha latte was one of the best my matcha-loving kids had ever had. Very fast service by kind attentive baristas! This is honestly one of the only options if you're and early bird. Unfortunately, regardless of what time you go and if they are busy or not - be prepared to wait. I wish i could say they take forever because they are making everything from scratch with love.. but that would be a lie. It is attached to the hotel atwater and i think on the bottom floor of an apartment building? The area is weird - there is a hall way with seating and mailboxes. Perfect place to grab a bite to start the day! Ordered the shark burrito and the peach lemonade! It was delicious, I am so picky with my eggs but it was so fluffy and flavorful, plus the potatoes and bacon it was a great quick meal that I enjoyed before I started my day. The peach lemonade is steeped and had a great flavor, I didn't expect it to be so refreshing and I was pleasantly surprised. I did not like the other options I saw where you are to grab your coffee and sit outside and the coffee shop has zero charm. Now I always check the hotels. Some have cute coffee shops and you can enjoy the perks of the hotel without being a guest, like using beautiful and clean bathrooms, the AC in the lobby, people watching and resting in a beautiful sofa while preparing the next part of the day trip. I really wanted to love this coffee shop! I'm giving it two stars since it was conveniently located in our hotel and had a great seating area to work from. Unfortunately the food and coffee left a lot to be desired and for the outrageous prices ( $6 for a coffee and $2 for milk substitutes - don't come here if you have a lactose allergy you'll pay nearly $8 for a small coffee!) I think they could do better. The staff also weren't the friendliest and looked annoyed when i tried to ask questions about the menu. We also tried to give this place another chance and ordered here two days in a row, both days our coffee was bitter and tasted burnt and the Frappuccinos were not blended well with chunks of ice. read more

There's not much to say, it's not large and it's not open very long each day. The bakery items are well worth the wait if there's a line, though. If you're in a hurry for breakfast and want something to eat while you walk, the breakfast items they sell here are perfect. Everything else that serves breakfast is dine-in only. ( As far as I know. ) Also, the Atwater is really well maintained and fun to walk around and look at while you eat. The post office is here as well. Pretty average but expected for a hotel cafe. Coffee was sort of mild and felt like the large was a medium for most places so I can't say it was worth $8.50. I tried the premade machaca breakfast burrito and it lacked beef and was very small for $14. It was microwaved so some of the tortilla was either crunchy or too tough to chew. After tax and a modest tip the coffee and burrito ended up being $27 and wasn't worth it... there's not many options around 7am during offseason but I'd try elsewhere unless it's convenient. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this place although it was a little pricey. We got a breakfast burrito, a machaca burrito, and a coffee and the total was $30! The burritos weren't huge which I'm glad for because we were able to finish them. They were actually the perfect size and were filled with a pretty proportionate amount of everything. This place was such a disappointment. Anyone visiting should know the food is made elsewhere and microwaved here. Nothing is fresh not even the croissant. We've had airplane food that's better. It was super convenient for us because of the proximity and because they were open early but I was expecting normal hotel level food. From the first sip of cappuccino I knew this was not the case. I even said out loud to my wife "hey, this cappuccino is pretty good". Breakfast Burrito: Neatly toasted on a press, it has a crunchy outside and the minimum layers of tortilla to hold it all together. It was already cut in half making it perfect for sharing. Normally these types of burritos that have too much egg I don't like that much but all the ingredients tasted high quality and it was a good burrito. Contents were mainly egg but also had sausage, bacon, and cheddar. Ham and Cheese croissant: much higher quality cheese and ham used than at donut shop ham and cheese croissants. It was also filled very full and the croissant part was good. My oldest devoured this without us having to keep telling him to eat so we know it was good. read more

We got the chocolate almond croissant, jalapeno croissant, double espresso, and strawberry lemonade with boba! I was surprised that they had boba! The drink was refreshing and croissants were good. Came here for breakfast because we got a $20 credit for staying at the Hotel Atwater. We should've saved it to return to the Avalon Grill again, but we decided to get breakfast here. You order at the counter and they have the breakfast choices displayed in the glass case. I had the machaca breakfast burrito and it was disappointing. The first bite was good as it was the only bite with beef in it. After that first bite, it was basically just scrambled egg that wasn't even hot. One side of the tortilla was toasted and the other was a bit soggy. Husband got the avocado Turkey bagel sandwich and it looked ok. The bagel was warm, but the rest of the sandwich was cold. Definitely overpriced for what you get, but it is attached to a hotel in Catalina. I'd recommend going to another breakfast spot, unless you're just getting pastries because they looked pretty good. read more

Beautiful little Cafe with lots of indoor seating. Beautiful music and DELICIOUS FOOD. We ordered the muchacha burrito which was probably one of the best Mexican Breakfast on the island). We also got the avocado breakfast which was just the bagel and loads of avocado with nothing on top (salt and pepper on the side for those who want it). The croissant was a little too warmed up that it got hard quickly. The latte is not sweet so we added a bit of caramel to it and got a mocha latte as well. The latte and mocha were very delicious. All the staff is super smiley and friendly and seem to be happy to serve you. Open to giving suggestions. Opens early and closes early around 6am-12/1pm. read more

Staff was friendly and my iced vanilla latte was made perfectly. I arrived hungry and gave the machaca burrito a try. It was good, quickly heated and came with a mild salsa. Might try the breakfast quesadilla on another day. Chicken curry salad looked appealing as well and they have these ginormous jalapeño cheese croissants so I'm recommending for friends to come by since this is such a nice grab n go. I don't like Illy coffee, however the double espresso on ice paired perfectly w/ the Chocolate Croissants! First time trying Bistro at the Atwater. Since we stayed at the Hotel Atwater this time it of course was very convenient. Not a huge selection of pastries but what they offered was of superior quality compared to other quick breakfast options on the island. My ham & cheese croissant was out of this world. It was even cut in half allowing me to eat it easier without making a giant mess. If you're into espresso type drinks, this place is good. BrewHouse as well. Unfortunately I do not recommend Catalina Cookie Company for coffee after this visit. Stick with the two aforementioned. read more

Ham and cheese croissant were good. Service was absolutely zero star. None of them staffs smile especially the lady with glasses. It feel like they didn't want to be/work there. Line are long. Drinks were not good... we throw it ours and get a new one from Catalina island brew house instead. Staffs are much nicer over there and drinks are much better too! Overall satisfied with the food and drinks. The service was okay, a bit slow for the amount of employees. To start off, the line was fairly long so it's definitely understandable for a 5-10 min wait. My order: 2x Avocado toasts ( they did run out of toast so I substituted for a croissant instead ) 2x Large ice lattes, one decaf the other regular (non-dairy milk) The hot food came out within minutes, which I patiently waited for the ice drinks. Ice drinks are supposed to be much quicker, in case someone reading this doesn't know, It's (syrup if asked for) 2-3 shots of espresso on the bottom layer, ice, milk top. Literally the espresso is the only thing that take seconds to pour, no frothing of milk since it was iced. Yet I see other people that order 10 mins behind me receive there drinks. I go up to the lady making the sandwiches and ask kindly how much longer for the drinks? She said there coming, mind you this is already at 18 mins. At around the 20 min mark, I go up to who I believe was the supervisor or manager in their bistro and explain the situation. By the end I was already ready to walk out as the food was getting cold, I just asked for a refund. The reason they deserve the 3 stars is from the resolution, she wrote down my receipt checking number for a refund and provided the drinks. I would come back here as the coffee and food was actually great. If their were anything to suggest maybe organizing a system to receive and delete tickets. As I believe my drink order ticket was lost somehow or accidentally trashed which left me hanging their for close to 30 mins which I stayed patient for around 20 mins, not ideal when you have reservations elsewhere. read more

With that said the Bistro at Atwater hotel is the perfect little stop for a caffeine boost and a bite to eat. The croissants are massive and warmed up to enhance al the flavors inside. Buttery, flakey, and with the tomato onion and oregano you get the undertones of a slice of good pizza. The wrap is a standard sausage egg and cheese burrito enhances with some fresh roasted salsa. The jalapeño cheese croissant was that perfect bite of spice to wake you up. Ample coffee options you can request hot or iced and flavored syrups to twist it up if you like! read more

I only went here cause of the $20 hotel voucher. The line was long and the employees were a bit disorganized. There was a lot of confusion amongst the customers over whose order was whose. My wife ordered a half caff but they made a full decaf, it was so chaotic we didn't even bother them to correct it. The almond croissant was very good but the quiche was slimy and not good at all. Next time I will just save the voucher for Avalon grille and get coffee at Lloyd's next door or somewhere else. read more

My hotel (not Atwater) made me spend $20 at this place as part of their daily resort fee. I hate when hotels do that. My kiddo and I are not coffee drinkers (this is basically a coffee bar that serves food) and we had found other food places we wanted to eat so that left us with ordering their cookies! The first day we got a couple of their big cookies (they had chocolate chip and oatmeal) and they were just delicious! They are big and gosh I ate the whole thing!! So for 3 additional days thereafter, we ordered their huge cookies and ended up taking a half a dozen home where we enjoyed. I asked if they made the cookies and they said the chef at the Descanso Beach Club makes them. These were amazeballs cookies at a good price. I think other places sold them too but a smaller cookie for a more expensive price. Anyway, they are nice there except there is a daily line and it takes about 20-30 minutes to cycle through cuz everyone in front was always ordering fancy coffees that take time to make so hence the one less star.
