The hash was OK--would have liked more of a crisp to it and seasoning. And the pancakes... the texture threw me off a bit. It was kind of bread-y and not as fluffy as you'd expect. My partner ordered the Chorizo Sizzler, which, as the name suggests, came out of the kitchen smoking on a sizzling plate. As the heart of the dish, the chorizo actually had a nice flavor to it--it was just drowned in a sea of thickly cut potato wedges. Service: No complaints. This was my second visit here. It's the closest breakfast spot to the boat terminal. It's right next to the second golf cart rental place. I arrived just past 7 am (when they open) and made a run here because the placed filled up within minutes after I arrived. At first they were short staffed, but more staff quickly arrived. Still, there were waits to order and especially for the food to arrive. There was one waiter who was hustling more than the others. I was told to put my luggage by the host stand, unwatched. Later I moved it to my table without incident or obstruction for security reasons. I ordered the Country Squire combo--pancakes, eggs, hashbrowns and bacon or sausage. The pancakes were okay but the cup of syrup was inadequately small. The hashbrowns and bacon could have been crispier. Note that this restaurant, like all the restaurants in Avalon, does not serve free tap water, you must buy a bottle. This has been an unwritten rule here for years; I always bring my own water bottle. An okay meal, but my first choice for breakfast in Avalon is the Lobster Trap, which now also opens at 7 am. Breakfast spot located in downtown Avalon. It is about a 10th of a mile from the tender pier when you get off the cruise ship. We came here at about 9:30 AM on a Tuesday morning. It was not crowded, but quickly filled up. The waitstaff was very nice and accommodating. I have the pecan waffle for my meal. It was delicious. My spouse had the country gravy chicken and said his meal was OK. The restaurant offers beautiful views of the water. read more

Came here on a sunday and it was pretty busy but luckily the restaurant had 2 sides so the wait went by faster than the quoted time. I ordered the california bennie and it was okay. There wasn't anything special about it, the hollandaise sauce didn't stick out to me and required hot sauce to aid the flavors. Unfortunately they were having issues with their fryer and couldn't make some items on their menu such as the fried chicken. But I also requested for my hashbrowns to be well down and they said that wasn't possible either. FYI, water is not free on the island, so they will change you at the restaurant if you request it. I really wanted to like this place, especially since it was our first time visiting Catalina Island, but unfortunately our experience didn't reflect the reputation. We came in with family and asked if we could be accommodated at a larger table since my partner is very tall and we wanted him to be more comfortable. The staff refused, and THE HOST assisting our server, Violeta, responded with "bruh" and gave us a dismissive look, which immediately made things feel uncomfortable. While the service itself was fast, the overall atmosphere didn't feel welcoming. The food looked great when it arrived, but sadly it lacked flavor. We chose to stay and give it a fair chance instead of walking out, but the experience never improved. This was meant to be a special visit for us, and it ended up being disappointing. Not to mention perfect scenery and ambiance. You're looking at the ocean and the Main Street feeling the breeze while eating breakfast and drinking their Kona coffee. Our order consists of everything from their Signature Dishes, Combos, Omelets and Scrams as well as Bennies. We ordered Lox N' Bagel, Country Squire Combo, Breakfast Burrito, California Bennie, Chicken N' Waffles and Florentine Bennie. All our meals were prepared fresh, hot and delicious. The staff is absolutely so lovely as always and welcoming. Times have changed here on the island, though that's for sure. It's missing that old school dining experience. It feels a little sterile and not warm and cozy. We miss the good all days. The food was tasty. They even have gluten-free options. Had the pancakes-they tasted a little greasy, maybe cooked on an overused grill. Visiting Catalina for a long weekend and of the three breakfast places that we tried this was our favorite of the three. It has a beautiful location right across from Avalon Bay so you have a great view of the water while dining. It was quite busy when we arrived for our 9:30 Friday morning breakfast but we didn't have to wait very long. They have a pretty large menu filled with a lot of great options and the other diners around us seemed like they were enjoying their meal as well. Pricing is fair and our server was very polite. The restaurant is actually larger on the inside than it looks on the outside so there are plenty of seating options. The food was pretty good, not quite as good as the breakfast you will get over in the mainland, but for a little island breakfast spot it was really enjoyable. For my meal I ordered the Chorizo Sizzler and enjoyed it. I wish there would have been more chorizo and a little bit less onions but still overall it was a really nice meal. I also got a coffee and thought it was strong and tasty. I would recommend to anyone visiting the island and I would stop in again next time I visit Catalina. read more

Breakfast options in Avalon are slightly limited compared to lunch and dinner. Aside from two cafés, this and one other spot seemed to be the only sit down breakfast restaurants that were open early daily. We chose to come here because the recent reviews were slightly better than the other restaurant. They had a good sized menu that offered a variety of classic diner breakfast foods. I was torn between the belgian waffle and the eggs benedict, but ended up going with the benedict because I was craving hash browns. The benedict itself was good, the eggs cooked perfectly and the bacon and avocado plentiful. The hollandaise could've used a little more flavor, but overall it was pretty good. The hash browns unfortunately were pretty bland and very burnt tasting. They did a good job hiding that they were burnt by putting that side down on the plate, but wow was that all you could taste. Similar to most restaurants on the island, they did not have tap water, but you could purchase bottled water. Luckily we had learned our lesson and brought our waters with us. I saw some negative reviews about the service, but didn't have that experience at all. Everyone was polite and friendly. If this were a spot back home I'd probably give it 3 stars, but for the limited offerings on the island this is a good breakfast option if you want a more substantial sit down breakfast. read more

Came here for breakfast about 11AM and there was no wait - yay! There is usually a line so this was great timing. It's a cute restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating both with ocean views. Ordered the pancake combo with scrambled eggs and bacon, hubby had the eggs bennie. Both were cooked perfect and delicious. Pancakes were especially good and served with warm syrup! A bit late on the review but catching up! We were on Catalina Island back in June and I wanted to be sure to offer a review and give a shout out to this great breakfast place! There was a bit of wait but we expected that being on the island at breakfast time on a Saturday! Was about a 20 minute wait so not too bad. There was only four of us so that made a difference because we saw lots of bigger parties waiting. Busy, hoping place for sure but clean and bright dining area with tons of natural light from all of the windows facing the water. Our server was Violeta and she was nice, efficient and busy! She took our drink orders and then when she brought them was ready for our food order. Starting by saying...you are paying for bottled water, as is the practice on the island. They charge $2.00 per bottle (it's so funny how every place has no cost or up to $2.00 per bottle). We ordered pancakes, of course, and they were so good...delicate, tender, and had that malt-like flavor. Also had the Big Skillet Scramble which was huge and had lots of good things in it. My grandson ordered the Chorizo Sizzler with well done eggs which was put over the top of the skillet. I had the Eggs Benni and granddaughter had the California Bennie...both served with perfectly cooked poached eggs and covered with a nice and light hollandaise. This food was so delicious!. Wish I had taken photos but I was so hungry LOL. Came with a group of friends on an early morning trip to Catalina. We stopped into this place to have breakfast. They were pretty crowded but the wait time was only like 20 minutes. It did seem like it took a little bit of time for our food to actually arrive after we ordered, but it was absolutely worth the wait. Everything tasted so fresh. The eggs, the potatoes, even the cheese tasted like hand shredded cheese. The portions are huge. I had the squire breakfast and ended up bringing my pancakes home. There's no way I can eat all of that food. Please keep that in mind when you're ordering. The portions are pretty large. The staff was very friendly. The chorizo sizzler was absolutely delicious, so much flavor! It came with potatoes, peppers, onions, and chorizo topped with eggs. It came with a side of tortillas as well. Wasn't in the mood for a traditional breakfast, so instead I got a BLTA with fries. It had a very basic construction and was tasted fine. Last time I was here, I forgot to post that I had the gotten the blintzes. They tasted like they had previously been frozen, and perhaps that's why they're no longer on the menu any more.
