Came here for lunch and after a short wait, we were seated outside right by the water. Such a nice spot to sit and enjoy the ocean view! We ordered the scallops, oysters, and a burger. The scallops were definitely the standout -- they were amazing and I would 100% order them again. The oysters were not bad although I've had better. The burger was a little on the dry side and could've used more seasoning, so I'd probably skip that next time. Overall, a really nice lunch spot in Avalon, especially if you can get a table by the water. I'd come back for the appertizers! The crab cakes were small but had a good proportion of crab, and had a decent amount of complementary sauce. I've been to the Carlsbad location of Bluewater and decided to eat at their Avalon location during a recent trip to Catalina. It's located right on the water and in the center of all the activity Catalina has to offer. I like Bluewater because it's a safe option for larger groups and has enough variety that everyone can find something to eat. There were a few of us so we ordered beer, virgin coladas, regular coladas, calamari, fish tacos, fish and chips, a Caesar salad, and of course had several servings of their delicious sourdough bread with whipped butter. We were seated right up front on the water and under umbrellas so we didn't burn in the sun. The food came out at a nice pace with our favorite being the calamari. I enjoyed the mix of peppers and calamari. The fish and chips were good, though one of the pieces seemed a little rubbery and I thought it might've been the way it was cut before fried. The ambiance is gorgeous with a nice patio out with the ocean views. The weather was perfect and calming. The service was super helpful and polite. They gave us all the detailed info on each and every dish and we ordered the buffalo milk, fried calamari and chips with artichoke dip. All the food was well made. I'v always loved Bluewater restaurants. We have visited their other location in Redondo beach too. This one is our go-to for seafood whenever are we in town. Their menus don't change much but the items are great. Outdoor seatings are where we usually sit for beautiful views. We love fresh oysters, edamame, seafood Louise salad, crab cocktail, cioppino, lobster roll and fresh fish of the day. I love that they have a very healthy kids menu that comes with crayons and some fun activities. We started with some drinks and oysters. The oysters were delicious and fresh! My drink was OK, it didn't taste that strong but it came with a shrimp in it which is fun! My son's lunch was pretty epic. It came in a bento box with veggies, fruit, a big grilled cheese and choice of juice. My husband and I split the fisherman's basket but I wasn't aware they charge you more to split plates. That's a bummer. Loved all the seafood the dish included and it's definitely enough for two people to split, you're just going to pay more if you do. Service was good, so no complaints there. Took a day trip to Catalina and this was our first stop for lunch. Our party of 5 was seated right away around 11:30 am on a Monday. The outside seating is absolutely beautiful. We were able to get a table right on the water and overlooked the entire bay as we ate. Note: They only serve bottled water due to a water shortage and I believe it's $1.50 per bottle. For appetizers, we got the Crispy Calamari ($21) and Baked Crab and Artichoke Dip ($20.50). The calamari was fried perfectly and so tender. The dip was really flavorful but the chips were a little too oily. To share, we got the Sautéed Sanddabs ($28), San Francisco Cioppino ($40), Beer-Battered Fish & Chips ($26), and New York Strip ($46). The sanddabs were cooked perfectly and so flavorful. This is one of my regular stops when in Avalon. Their food is consistently good and, perhaps because they are part of a larger chain, their hours are consistent, which wasn't the case with some other local restaurants during my recent visit. Some of them just never bothered to open when weather forced the cancellation of all boats on 2 separate days. I was the only diner this visit, although there were a few locals in the bar. The large outdoor area with great views was closed due to the wind and rain. I ordered fairly simply--clam chowder and the sauteed sanddabs. The New England style chowder was thick as expected with a decent amount of clams, served with oyster crackers. The sanddabs were nice, prepared picatta-style with lemon, butter and capers, served with scalloped potatoes and spinach. I fortunately also got a hunk of their excellent sourdough bread, and an iced tea that luckily included refills, since Bluewater probably does not offer free tap water but charges for bottled, like all the other restaurants here.
