As a vegan traveler to the island I always have dinner at Steve's steakhouse. They have even added more amazing vegan options to the menu. This time I started with the steamed artichoke and vegan mayo then tried the avocado tacos. An order of sourdough bread is always a must as well! My husband and I went here this past weekend. This place was really wonderful! We were sat quickly and right by the window at sunset. We shared a bottle of the Kim Crawford wine, which was delicious. To start we got the Duck Cigars (incredible!), A cup of Tomato soup (SO GOOD!), and a bread basket, which we never received :( . I got a 12oz Prime Ribeye and my husband enjoyed the rack of lamb and lobster tail. They initially came out with my side, potato, on his plate, and his side, rice pilaf, on my plate. We politely asked it to be fixed since that would have become very messy if we did it at the table, which they had no problem taking back to the kitchen to fix. My steak was so good, a little over done in my opinion, but I do prefer more pink/red in a standard medium rare. My husband loved the lamb, but said the lobster was overall lacking flavor. We then had the chocolate cake which was SOOOO fudgey and delicious! Our experience was very nice, except for the missed appetizer, which was removed from the bill, and our sides swapped, but overall very good. The workers are all very friendly and funny. I went last year for my birthday to enjoy the island for the first time and I decided to have dinner at Steve's Steakhouse. I first want to say that the customer service and attention to detail with the staff right away was amazing. My boyfriend and I had the most amazing dinner and the food was soooo good. We first ordered some drinks and they were deliiiciouus. The lemon drops were filled to the brim and our favorite. For food we ordered the ponzu scallops as an appetizer and they were so good we ordered another round. The main dishes we got were the filet mignon and swordfish and it all came out nicely seasoned and cooked perfectly. I really appreciate the staff for making such a nice experience and the views were breathtaking. I will definitely be coming back to celebrate my birthday again and this time with some friends to show them why I love Steve's Steakhouse so much read more

Menue looked great. View of harbor was beautiful. At our visit it was horribly crowded tables too close together, no feeling of romantic intimacy. The servers repeatedly appeared to never know where they were to deliver drinks or food. We did not stay. The receptionist at the bottom of the stairs did offer the much quiter area of the beach seating but my fiance preferred not to stay. I would have loved to try earlier or later. Was disappointed with Steve's steakhouse at dinner last night. My fish came out and it was not cooked all the way. It tasted chalky and also slimy. The restaurant was so noisy and so busy it was impossible to hear the people at my own table. We literally had to shout our orders to the server! The best part of the evening was our server Tanya. She did her best with everything and did it with a smile! She is the only reason why I give it 3 stars. I would never have stepped foot in place with "steakhouse" in the name if it wasn't for the severe lack of dining options in off-peak season (January) AND seeing a whole section on the menu dedicated to vegan/vegetarian options. Shared a few entrees with friends: Butternut Squash Ravioli (5/5) - Really delicious and creamy without being overly sweet which is always my worry with butternut squash ravioli. I'm glad we got it with the tomato cream sauce for a bit of tang to offset the richness. Veggie Platter (2/5) - This was just such a random hodgepodge of things. Baked potato was just so plain and had flakes of aluminum in it from the way it was cut into. 1/3 of the plate was just taken up by containers of butter. The artichoke was good but everything else was disappointing especially for how much this entree cost (most expensive dish on the vegetarian/vegan menu) Cauliflower Steak (5/5) - Now this exceeded my expectations! My boyfriend and I came to Catalina Island to celebrate my birthday. Our hotel was next door, and we happened to walk by the restaurant and decided to have dinner there. The food is delicious here. I enjoyed the garlic cheese bread as an appetizer, and the rib-eye steak was cooked perfectly. Our server, Adam, was amazing. He keeps the vibe upbeat and makes the food much more enjoyable. He gets an A++, we absolutely loved him. We were placed at the window, and the views were stunning. We could feel the breeze, which was refreshing to feel while eating dinner (and cool down my Asian Glow lol). They DO NOT hold back on the liquor in the lemon drop, just a warning haha. We just went there on my birthday. After much research apparently this is supposed to be one of the "fancy" restaurants on Catalina. Staff was nice but the food...I have never had such awful lobster. It was dry and rubbery and tasted like nothing. I thought I could get through it with the butter because I hate sending food back, but the butter was off too. I apologized to the server for sending it back but I just couldn't eat it. I ordered a filet mignon instead. He didn't offer to bring me another side. I literally got a tiny circle of steak on an empty plate. I ordered it medium well. It came rare. By then I was just done and didn't want to complain any more. My husbands food was cold as he waited for my food to arrive. He ordered a dessert and they brought it out and just set the dessert in front of my husband without so much as a Happy Birthday. read more

Visiting Catalina for a three day weekend and of all three dinners that we had while on the island this was our favorite. It's right across from Avalon Bay so you can dine staring at the water, which is a lovely option. If possible try to sit at one of the tables by the windows which have the best views. It's located up on the second floor so you have good views of the entire bay. Inside is quite large and they have many different seating options available for many different size parties. Our server Juan was very polite and everything that we ordered arrived very fast. For our dinner, we ordered the Artichokes and the Wedge Salad to start, which were both nice and a good sized portion. I wish the Wedge would have bacon with it as that is the standard version but still this one was very tasty and a good start to the meal. For our dinner, we chose the Shrimp & Chips which was very good and had very large, plump shrimp. For myself, I chose the special of the day, which was the Barramundi cooked in a lemon caper sauce and honestly really loved it. It had some great flavors and it was very tender and cooked perfectly. I got a baked potato on the side, which was quite small, but still had nice flavors. Overall, we had a great dining experience and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the island and I would certainly dine here again next time I visit Catalina. read more

Almost landed on another perch but thanks to my Hawk-eye hubby we noted Steve's (Steve is awesome by the way) is upstairs. So glad we found the stairway. I give this place six out of five stars based on all criteria, ambience, a nice cool Catalina breeze, the staff...Steve the owner even came over and checked on us our server Tania was exceptionally attentive, and all the food was just so well prepared. Came here last December to celebrate my parents' anniversary. We couldn't make any reservations due to the restaurant policy so we made sure to arrive exactly when they had opened to get seats. I was hoping to get a seat by the beach as I saw you can do that on their website, but I later found out that is only an option in the summertime. We sat down relatively quickly and the waiter was kind in explaining their most popular items. Here's what we ordered: 1) Boston Clam Chowder 2) Pasta of the Day 3) NY Steak 4) Filet Mignon 5) Halibut Unfortunately all the food items we ordered were WAY too salty. Things tasted over seasoned as if fear of not enough seasoning, especially the steak and mignon. It was hard trying to finish all our food and our mouths were quite dry at the end of it. The Rib eye steak was a good size I myself couldn't eat it alone but it was cooked perfect and tasted fantastic . We also ordered the pasta of the day which was a pesto shrimp rigatoni, yum! The pasta dish paired well with the rib eye and I was pleased. The restaurant sits right if front of the harbor, so I would recommend trying to get the window seat. We were happy to try Steve's Steakhouse this visit. I had a Mai Tai for my cocktail and we had deliciously hot sourdough bread and butter for our appetizer. The calamari steaks were amazing! Tenderized, thin, perfectly cooked & large portion. Definitely MUST add the caper lemon sauce ... a little dip on each piece to keep your steak crispy (a tip from Johnny, our waiter). My husband has the grilled shrimp and baked potatoes. The service was amazing. Waters poured and a cold glass bottle left on the table for us to refill if needed. They lit our candle (a real one!). Food was served pretty quickly and hot! We had a beautiful outlook over Avalon Beach and Harbor that was all lit up with lights. It was nicely decorated and quiet and calm.
