Great spot for fresh seafood! The seafood sandwich was delicious, fresh, flavorful, and really satisfying. Service was fast and everyone was friendly and welcoming. Definitely a great place to grab a quick seafood meal in Avalon.
BEWARE OF HIDDEN FEES. While the food here was generally good, the hidden fees left a bad taste in me and my friend's mouths. To eat I had the fish and chips with the Pacific Halibut per our server's recommendation and it was pretty solid. The fish was fried well and the fish was juicy and fishy in a good way. The portion size looked small initially, but this was actually a filling dish. My friend got the fish tacos with swordfish also per our server's recommendation and it was also pretty solid for her. However, when we got the bill we were surprised with all the hidden fees. I asked for regular water, but was charged $1.25 for it. For my friend's taco, she was charged an extra $2.00 for the "blackened" fish which she did not order. Lastly, we were charged a 3% credit surcharge for using a credit card. I wish our server was upfront about these fees, it just felt like a greedy money grab of tourists. I would not come back honestly. Just bring your own food to the island.
We loved this place so much we ate here twice while in Catalina. The fish is fresh and delicious! Had to try the quail egg shooter and it was good! The ceviche is outstanding. A decent portion for the price. The scallops were good too- but I'd choose ceviche if you're waffling. Fish tacos, sushi- just go!
Our experience at this restaurant was unimpressive from the get-go. It took a long time for us to be seated even though there were open tables and several workers were on the floor. A few made eye contact, but didn't acknowledge us. Our fault for not taking this as a sign to avoid this restaurant. We ordered the calamari, a fish sandwich, and grilled fish. The calamari was meager and did not look fresh. The fish sandwich was fine, but didn't have much fish. The steamed fish was billed on our receipt as "catch of the day," which meant that we paid the top end of the $27-$36 price range for steamed fish. It was a small filet and was fine, but nothing amazing. The real "catch of the day" was the high prices that customers were being charged. I got the sense that this place caters to tourists who come off of the cruise ships that dock in Catalina every week, so there's no incentive to create repeat customers. The restaurant went so far as to refuse to serve tap water, citing a California law on drought-related water conservation, which I found to be odd because all of the other restaurants we went to in the same 1 mile radius provided free tap water without being asked. Instead, we were asked to pay $1 for plastic water bottles (not sure how that was more environmentally friendly...). The inside was small, and my chair was pressed against another guest's chair, making it nearly impossible to move. Overall, this visit was a waste of our time, money, and appetites.
Food Great Service Great Location Great Couldn't think of anything wrong. 1 of the only restaurants on this part of the island that has FRESH fish. Not frozen from costco. Pricing is very fair. Ndmk fires are . Anyone complaining about 3% merchant fee... you are a cheap person. Everyone charges for cc fees. Get over it. Would definitely recommend and repeat. I got surf & turf. Lobster from Maine. Was sweet as it should be. Steak was 8.5/10 not bad at all. We also got fish & chips. Real fish and you can choose the fish thats how you know its not frozen store bought and refried.
Love places like NDMK fish house. Great fish, great food in general, great staff and great location. Not boujee enough to out price people visiting the island. And well worth it. I wish I could've ordered more

Two cousins wake up at 4am to go fishing to deliver the freshest sea food. Loved this little restaurant in Catalina island. The staff were so friendly and it was nice to have a sit down meal. They have traditional sea food dishes or Asian fusion meals. My fav was the fish and chips as since they caught the halibut that morning. I highly recommend!
My friend and I strolled into NDMK at around 7:30/8 on a Thursday and could not be more delighted with our experience! There are only a few tables and one server but she crushed it for being so busy. We ordered a cup of Lobster Bisque to start and it was absurdly good. Salty, buttery, and rich. My favorite one I've had so far. We also ordered two different sushi rolls that were fantastic. Super fresh and some unique flavor profiles. This is a quaint spot hidden on a side street of Catalina that is local and family owned. They catch most of their seafood daily! If you go anywhere on Catalina Island, let it be this spot.
Stopped by here to try swordfish. Swordfish taco was an interesting experience. It taste like fish but it had texture to it. I'm not a fan of fish like cod where it falls apart. The shrimp was delicious. My biggest problem is that they charge you $1 for water. And it's a water bottle. I get it you're trying to keep a business but at the price we're paying for food. A water bottle should come with it.
Service 5/5 -friendly staff and food came out quick Food 3/5 -1/2 dozen oysters $18, tasted fresh and ponzu complimented it well -Rattlesnake roll $18, tasted the best out of the three, but nothing to write home about -Offshore roll $17, pickled red onion was interesting but get tiring after a couple pieces -Rainbow roll $16, least favorite of the three, the imitation crab mixture tasted drier and less flavorful than most that I have tried and made the roll taste dull -Salmon poke bowl $23, decent portion size but don't expect authentic poke, salmon is just diced and sauced at the time of order, refreshing overall -quality is not amazing but I think this is the only or one of few restaurants on the island that actually has sushi Ambiance 4/5 -Space is open and comfortable with plenty of bar seating around the perimeter that's great for people watching, there were a couple flies that lingering throughout the whole meal
Food: Our group ordered a few things, but I can only speak to the Fish & Chips. My friend and I each did an order: one with pacific halibut and another with white sea bass, which were pretty decent. My ONLY nitpick is for the fish to have been a bit more moist. Also, the fries were a shining co-star! It was a table favorite. Service: No complaints! We were seated promptly and our food came out at a reasonable time. Ambiance: Casual, nautical.
We stopped here while on catalina island. I ordered the fish tacos and a salad. My favorite was the mahi- mahi. Service was ok. They were pretty busy. So we had to wait for seating. It wasn't to long before a booth became available. We also ordered the shrimp as an appetizer. It was all delicious and plentiful. I would recommend the tacos. If back on the island. I would stop here. The two tacos was very filling.
This spot was actually my food highlight for my weekend on Catalina Island. Definitely a casual and quick spot but they have a variety of options and good serving sizes. I ordered the poke bowl (with a little extra tuna) and this was great for a post hike lunch. The tuna pieces were large and relatively firm / fresh, the sauce was flavorful but not too heavy, and all the other toppings were proportional to the bowl size. I ate the whole thing and was sufficiently full after! My mom ordered the halibut, which was also a large, probably 7oz+ size of fish with a large side of broccolini. I had a bite and it had a great flavor and was cooked well. Would definitely come back to try some fried fish options like fish n chips or even some of their sushi rolls. read more
I came this place with my friends on our visit to Catalina Island. I had looked it up before and had high hopes. They had a cool concept of being able to pick the type of fish that you want for any of the fish entrees. The staff was nice and the food came out fast. Unfortunately, the execution on the food missed the mark for me. Fish & Chips ($21-25) All 5 of us got this with halibut which was supposed to be the most tender fish, but half of us got dry and overcooked pieces that tasted more like chicken. The fries were crispy though. Seasonal Oysters (1 dozen $34) I love oysters, but these tasted metallic and not as fresh to me. My friends liked them though. Overall, the food was a miss for me. Went on my first cruise and they dumped us here for half a day lol. Wandered around Catalina Island and decided give to this fish house a try! It's pretty small inside. Got the fish & chips, Rattlesnake roll & watermelon passionfruit drink. The sushi was surprisingly good, fresh ingredients topped with sweet eel sauce. It was pricey for a canned drink tho... $10! I thought it was going to be a hand made drink. Anyway, would def return to try some more dishes! read more
Found this spot after researching some recommended eats in catalina. We ordered the fried fish tacos and poke bowl. We chose halibut as our fish and it was really good. I also really enjoyed their fries. The poke bowl had great flavor & was so fresh. We came at a good time; it wasn't too busy so we were able to be seated right away. The staff were friendly. A little overpriced as compare to the place at the Green Pier which also has a nice view. The fish sandwich is good. But I won't recommend the poke bowl. read more
Worth the Stop in Avalon? Let's Talk About It. Q: When did you go and what was the wait like? A: Monday, fresh off a cruise around noon. About a 10-minute wait-completely reasonable. Q: First impression? A: I've been to Catalina Island more times than I can count, and somehow this spot never crossed my path until now. That alone surprised me. Q: What did you order? A: Fish and chips-and listen... it was slapping. The mahi mahi was full-bodied, flaky, and moist. The batter? Perfectly seasoned, which is rare without heavy breading. The fries were seasoned and jammin'. If you're a fry person, this combo delivers. (All local fish not available so don't get your palette to water. I preferred bass but I ate the mahi). Q: Why not something else like sushi? A: I considered it-but sushi is easy to find. Fish and chips made with mahi mahi instead of cod? That's a different conversation. I was here for it. Q: How was the service? A: One main waiter with support-but honestly, he was doing everything: host, server, cashier, manager. Easy on the eyes and efficient. Didn't miss a beat. Q: What about other food you saw? A: I was watching plates come out-everything looked worth trying. That's always a good sign. Q: Anything unexpected stand out? A: The fountain coke. No joke. I only drink fountain coke, and this was one of the best I've had. Q: What's the vibe and seating like? A: Small eatery. One table fits about 8, others are 2-4 tops plus a counter. Intimate, not cramped. Q: Accessibility and parking? A: Parking will be a challenge (typical Avalon). Wheelchairs can get in, but motorized chairs may struggle. The hallway to the restroom is tight, something to consider. Q: Price point-a little surprised? A: You might think it's a little pricey in the moment, but afterward? I didn't think about it at all. I'm general eating out is making me stay at home. Thank goodness I can cook. Q: Final take? A: Support this local spot. Solid food, efficient service, and a menu worth exploring. I'll be back. The fish collars are a must, whenever they have them available Food/Drink- 4 stars Similar to my past visit here, the food is decent, but I enjoyed the local and fresh fish they had available. The swordfish collar they had was divine, and I still think about it. The spiny lobster was good and had an excellent fish roe rice pilaf on it (but my main complaint was that it was overcooked, which defeats the purpose of fresh seafood). Service- 5 stars Their a bit understaffed, but the workers that are there are professional and attentive Bottom Line If your budget can handle it, I would highly recommend getting their fish collars here when they have it available read more

Stop by this place after the recommendation of our tour guide. This place had a bit of a wait but the wait was worth itl. They offered several fresh fish options, we ordered two rolls, nigiri and fish and chips. The fish and chips were amazing, the firs were super crispy and the fish batter was so tasty. Can't go wrong with this dish. The ring of fire roll was spicy, that chili oil had a kick, if you aren't used to spicy I won't recommend it. Their tap drinks were interesting, def worth a try. read more
Came here for dinner and left very happy (and very full). We ordered the seared scallops, steamed clams, grilled teriyaki salmon with broccolini, and had two sakes. I originally tried to order the poke bowl, but they were down a sushi chef and warned it would take up to an hour. Totally fair, so I pivoted to the grilled salmon and I'm glad I did. It was delicious. It looks whatever in the awful photo I took, but trust me, it slapped. I usually don't even like teriyaki because it's often way too sweet, but theirs was perfect. Balanced, not sugary, and the salmon was cooked exactly how I like it. Everything we had was really good across the board. No misses. Huge shoutout to KJ, our server, fantastic service. They also have some fun merch, and we couldn't resist grabbing a hat. Great food, great service. Love this spot and would absolutely come back. read more

We got the fish tacos, shrimp, and clam chowder. Clam chowder was okay, the fish tacos were good (would definitely recommend getting them deep fried), and the shrimp was solid. I would recommend getting the NDMK fries with sushi sauce, and spicy mayo! They were really crispy and well seasoned. The service was chill and I love how laid back the restaurant was overall. Would definitely come back to try a different fish? read more

Some of the best best fish tacos you'll ever eat in your life. Fish is very fresh here absolutely delicious. And it was a quiet kind of place to eat, which was nice from the hustle and bustle outside. Very reasonable pricing as well. Service was a bit quiet, but they were attentive. TASTY! read more

Really enjoyed the food here! I've only tried the seafood as it felt illegal to get anything else haha. Food was amazing first time I went, but may vary depending on the chef and time of day. It's still worth trying out though. * Nigiri was fresh, simple, and clean. Though a little rice heavy. * Handrolls were yummy and had lots of fish. (Pickled red onion is interesting with sushi, does get a little overpowering though) * Cioppino was hearty with lots of umami and depth, very prominent tomatoe based soup. * Oysters were good not amazing. Pronounced "Endemic" We came here for dinner with a group, and it was a hit across the table. I ordered the Rattlesnake sushi roll - eel, shrimp, and avocado finished with black sesame and fresh green onion - a rich well-balanced bite that stayed with me long enough to bring me back again for lunch. What really makes NDMK special is its commitment to local fish and local sourcing. I love supporting businesses like this -- especially after seeing so many places around the world become gentrified into the same pizza-and-burger menus (from Copenhagen to Prague to Amsterdam to Dubrovnik). NDMK feels rooted in Catalina in the best way: supporting local fishermen and farms while delivering food that's thoughtful, fresh, and genuinely delicious. This is exactly the kind of place I want to return to -- and recommend to anyone visiting the island. Tip: We brought our own water/tea based on other reviews, which worked out nicely. They don't seem to offer tea, and hot water was served in plastic cups; otherwise, water comes in plastic bottles. A small detail, but worth noting. read more

November 1, 2025 | Catalina Island Avalon | After spending the day on the island, and before boarding the ferry, I was craving a bite to eat! NDMK Fish House was a wonderful and tasty find! Poke Bowl w/Salmon $23 | Delicious, and plentiful! What a great mix of tasty bites: edamame, seaweed salad, avocado, wonton crisps and Housemade Hawaiian style poke sauce... Score! I opted for the half-and-half; has rice and half lettuce! Perfect! The bowls are quite huge, so I couldn't quite eat it all! While I selected salmon, you can also choose between tofu and tuna! Customer Service | Friendly, welcoming, and helpful with the menu! Seating | Plentiful, as well as seating in front of the window, which looks out at the ocean in the distance! This place became very busy! Decor | Very beach-y! I found myself constantly looking around, especially at the screens as the huge waves flashed across the screens! Overall | Yes, I would definitely love to dine here again and try more items on the menu! Thanks again for friendly customer service and a mouthwatering poke bowl! read more
Came for a 6pm dinner but they were out of a few options. We ordered based off their "fresh catch" list. Fish was delish, just wish I could have tried the cioppini which they were out of. Only a few beers on tap. One of the each type I'd say. read more

The food was so delicious I could eat here every day best seafood ever!! The Mahi Mahi ceviche was the best I have ever eaten. The halibut fish and chips delicious. The swordfish tacos amazing. The service was excellent, the staff was friendly and recommended great food. The atmosphere was great decor of different types of fish. read more

I was very disappointed with my experience at NDMK Fish House on Catalina Island. The burger was served with a badly crushed and folded bun, the ingredients were carelessly assembled, and the portion of fries was surprisingly small. Most concerning, the meal was served on a plate with a large chip missing from the rim, which is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about the restaurant's attention to cleanliness and customer safety. The attached photos clearly show the condition in which the meal was served. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant. read more

Food was good! Restaurant itself is kind of small, door is open so flies are always coming in (like there was constant swatting of my flies away my face and food) Service is good, but could be improved on. I'd come again, it's just when I have sushi, I expect an elegance of some sorts & it did not feel elegant in here. It was just a chill place not a fancy sushi dinner place. The service was very friendly and fast even though they were busy. They were sold out of most of the local options when we visited but the sandwich was a tasty alternative and it paired nicely with a glass of white wine and the ocean view. read more
Came here after doing the tour of Discover Avalon. I wanted fish and chips. Not very many places I have gone to where they provide a variety of fish to select from for your fish and chips. So I asked our server which fish he recommends. He said that his favorite was the halibut. We took his suggestion and ordered the halibut fish and chips along with the shrimp appetizer. I wasn't sure what to expect because I have ordered cod or rockfish for fish options in the past. Food arrives and both items came freshly cooked. Took a bite of our fish and my Hubby and I were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Juicy, not dry and batter was perfect balance. Shrimp appetizer was so delicious and the size was not small. Casual setting and it was 1 server the whole time. Food was coming out fast. We highly recommend this place and when we come back to Catalina- we will definitely be back. read more

The food was amazing and that made up for everything else. The wait was short overall. They seemed to only have one server so the service was kind of slow. The food does come out pretty quickly once you're able to order. The ceviche was fresh and the sushi was delicious. Would definitely go back any time I'm in Catalina. read more
