I have been going here for years for breakfast but my most recent visit was disappointing. After being seated it was if we were invisible. we finally had to flag down someone to take our order. The usually reliable avocado toast arrived with limp sourdough bread, used to artisan wheat. The requested scrambled eggs was just a cooked slab. The avocado used to have wonderful seasoning now just smash avocado. Must have lost their chef. Never came back to check on us and zi had to chase them down to pay. Won't be back read more

We came for happy hour, it was BOGO on appz. We shared poke nachos, wings, and regular fries. I love everything honestly. The wings were very flavorful and there was so much poke on the nachos (I loved the mangos on the nachos, I thought it added a nice touch). Located right across from the beach and moorings, it was a great spot for people watching on a warm early May day. Small spot, so likely to always be busy. It was just a snack, so that's all we had to eat. The portion size was generous. I've had better Poke (Bear Flag in HB/NB for the win), but it was still very good. The crispy wonton chips were quite nice. Beer menu was slim, but they had one of my favorites... Mango Cart. If you want a refreshing fruited beer. This one is for you. On the last day at Catalina, my friends and I decided to go down and have dinner at a restaurant. This one seemed to have a pretty good online menu and higher ratings than most, so we picked it. Upon arriving, we got sat down quickly. The views were nice. However, it took the server a while to even take our order, considering there were hardly any people there. When we asked for water from the tap, she refused us and said they only sell bottled water. It was strange because they had a bar and bars typically give free water- but okay. Once we ordered, the food took almost 30 minutes to arrive. Again- there were hardly any people. It was a slow Sunday afternoon. I got these Ahi tuna nachos I was excited to try. They were okay. The chips tasted purely like oil. Definitely will not be coming back, and the service was extremely slow as I mentioned. read more

This has been one of my favourite dining spots on the Island in the past. While still decent, I'd say it has lost half a star in my opinion. It's a small space, mostly outdoors, on the ground floor of the Bellanca Hotel. Inside is the bar (full menu available), while outside has about 4-5 high tops and a bar with seating that faces away from the restaurant, right along the sidewalk and street, with bay views. I recently have been visiting Catalina in the winter, when Naughty Fox has extremely limited hours, Friday-Sunday 9am-7pm (sometimes 5 pm I think). So that's a late-ish breakfast, lunch or early-ish dinner. I was only able to eat here this time because I changed my arrival date to Sunday due to an ominous weather forecast. They always seem short-staffed here. I have better luck sitting at the bar, where on this Sunday there were several parties here primarily to bar-hop. Service can be slow, but the bartender was nice because a couple next to me who clearly had been to Luau Larry's (they had on the hats) befriended her. The mocktail she created (they don't have a spirit-free menu) was delish and pretty inexpensive to boot. I ordered 2 dishes I have enjoyed in the past--the ahi nachos and frito misto. The nachos, my past fave, were still good but lesser. The wonton chips were thicker, the poke sauce more assertive, and the mango hardly detectable. The frito misto also was lesser. Everything was overfried, the scallops were tiny. The calamari and shrimp were okay, but the veggies (squash, carrots, onion, broccoli) were sliced so finely that they were indistinguishable from each other, just unidentifiable fried blobs. I asked for chopsticks for easier eating. I remember getting some spicy-sauced rice in the past, but I may have ordered that separately. Lastly, be aware that Naughty Fox, like pretty much all other restaurants in Avalon, does not serve free tap water, you must buy a bottle, or a box in their case. I bring my own water bottle when I visit the Island. While not as great as past visits, I would still return here, because the menu is still pretty unique for Avalon. read more

We drove past this place a bunch of times both during the day and night, and it was always popping, so we finally stopped in for brunch to see what the hype was about. The views are unbeatable. You're looking straight out at all the boats docked in the harbor, watching golf carts zip by nonstop. It's basically peak Avalon people watching. We grabbed champagne and just sat there soaking it all in. For food we ordered the breakfast burrito and the oatmeal. The oatmeal surprised me in the best way. Perfectly cooked, not overly sweet, just really well done. The breakfast burrito was solid too, and I asked for both red and green sauce. The red sauce was the winner for me. I really wanted to try the buffalo milk, but I couldn't bring myself to commit to a whole serving, it felt heavy. After way too much internal debate, I skipped it...and now I'm regretting that decision as I write this. It looked so good. All in all, great food, unreal views, and a super relaxing vibe. Definitely stop by if you're visiting Avalon. Oh one thing I didn't like....we asked for waters and they brought us boxed water. It tasted like plastic, so gross. Don't order water here. We wouldn't have asked for it had we known it was going to be boxed water! read more

We came here for the simple fact that I searched the BEST poke nachos multiples times (because of internet issues) and they came up with an insane picture! Turns out the place more than matches the picture of just the nachos. Leah, our waitress, is simply fun. She was so welcoming and fuming to chat with that we should have just bought out her day-time pay rate + tips and had her sit with us! The view...cmon.. Avalon harbor...not too shabby. Checkout the pic! The one questionable...the Famous+Naked drink. The green chartreus threw me. No idea what it was, but Leah came to the rescue...she said...try a little taster of the green chartreus...so I did...and wow, a stronger version of a Jäegermeister with green pine needles thrown in. The drink...'amazing.... The nachos...ok, the nachos are simply the best we have ever had. No poke out matches the wonton chips, no bland poke stack...this was a legit flavor bomb of mangos, spicy mayo, tuna, with nori powder over every chip!!! Enticed by the name, we decided to swing by this place after landing on the island. It's not too hard to get to this spot, it's technically a hotel's restaurant. It sits right in front of a roundabout that then faces the beach. Very cute, service was also fantastic. The salad was great but the tuna nachos were a bit lacking. So I know it's slim pickings when you're on Catalina Island in January (off-season) and it's certainly not where you go for culinary experience but at the very least, I expect to receive the menu's description when I order something. The vegan tacos which were supposed to come with vegan mayo, came instead drenched in soy sauce. The soggiest, saltiest poor excuse for tacos I've ever eaten. Literally no mention of soy sauce for the vegan tacos in the menu. Did they run out of vegan mayo and just thought "Soy sauce is the same, our guests won't notice the difference"? It just completely changed the dish and I have no more words. The avocado crush (brunch menu item) was okay. The standout was the breakfast potatoes it came with. Also my friend ordered the breakfast burrito explicitly requesting vegan bacon to be subbed in for regular bacon. When it came, we even double checked with the server since it looked like real bacon and he assured us it was vegan until my friend took a bite and recognized that it definitely wasn't. Props to our server though who was patient enough to coordinate us ordering from both the brunch menu and the lunch/dinner menu since we came right at that transition time. We waited about 8 minutes. Another guest who was dining at the restaurant was observing and asked us to sit at the bar to get some help. We went to the bar, the server we saw earlier was putting away glasses and my husband asked her if we would be able to dine outside. She answered with a very rude tone "if you want to go outside then go ahead yourself." There was no greeting. No welcome in. No customer service displayed. It was very disappointing. Stopped in to the Naughty Fox on our recent trip. I was looking forward to it as the reviews I read said it was a good spot. However that was unfortunately not our experience :( it took over 25 minutes to be greeted and when the waitress did come to greet us, she didn't speak. I think she may have said 5 words to us throughout our whole dining experience. I was trying to give her grace as it seemed like she was one of two workers, so I gave grace on the extremely long waits. However, the lack of interaction was really the thing that stuck out. My partner got a crispy chicken sand-which (he said it was not very good) and I got the Ahi Poke Tuna nachos. The fish was fresh but the plate was 70% chips which was overwhelmingly and I had to leave most of them as all the toppings quickly were gone since there was very little. Hopefully this was just a one off expedience, but I don't think I'd try to come again. read more

Restaurant on busy corner but nice view and good people watching. Been going here about twice a year since it opened. It was so good when it opened and the chef was from Ace Hotel in L.A. We always ordered the Avocado Toast. For some years, it was delicious and beautifully prepared, as well, with little edible flowers and micro greens on top. This past weekend we had it and maybe there's a new owner or chef, but it was really bad. The eggs were extremely overdone. The service which has been going downhill since opening of restaurant was the worst ever. Server never came over until we got up and got her. When she brought our order, she slammed it down and never came back to check on us. We had to go find her to pay. It appeared she did not want to even be there. Holiday blues?! This place was disappointing and whoever was the OGM on Saturday July 19th, you need to learn better customer service. I came to Catalina to celebrate my mom's birthday and we decided to try out this place. We get there and they don't have seating that fits our party of 6. So the server asks if we're okay splitting up to 4 and 2. We were hungry so we said we were okay with it and would wait for the table that does seat our whole party to open up in the mean time. So my bf and I sat on the patio area while my family sat at a table near the bar. We were hoping that the other table near the bar would open up soon. Our server was attentive and was nice and we appreciated him trying to accommodate us the best he could. My bf and I ordered drinks and the other server brought one of our drinks over to my family's table and my sister told me that he could barely form a sentence. He handed them our drinks and said Order?? But later on, my sisters would overhear him talking to the other tables perfectly, in complete sentences. So that was a little weird. While waiting for our food to come in, we saw a small table open up next to my family, not the big one but at least it was a table near by. We asked our server if we could move over there so at least we were next to my family and he says sure. But as we go to sit down, the other server brings over a party of 2 and says it's already reserved. And then the OGM swoops in with her blazer and says that theres a queue if we want to sit down and that we need to leave. Obviously it was just a misunderstanding, and my bf and I don't mind if it was already reserved for another group. It's not like we got up without asking someone first if we could sit there. But the OGM was rude and just assumed that we went and sat down there of our own accord. Which was weird because I had made eye contact with her plenty of times before when we were sitting on the patio, so it's not like she didn't know that we were already seated customers there. And as a manager, she couldn't go about the situation a little more kindly? Instead she just straight up tells us we can leave. We told her a server said we could sit there and shes like which server? We tell her and she just walks away. My bf and I go back to our original seats and we're frustrated with her tone and her rudeness. Our server comes by and apologizes, but theres not much he can do with her as a manager. Then to add more fuel to the fire, my bf and I saw that the large table finally opened up. We ask our server if we can all move there now. He says he'll go ask his manager. As we're waiting to hear back, a party of 3 white ladies that were sitting next to us move over to that table without asking anyone and the OGM sees all of this and doesn't say a word. Where was the swooping in that she did for us? Where was telling them that there was a queue and they needed to leave? The group didn't even ask and they weren't even a full party of 6. On top of all this, the food wasn't even good. I ordered the shrimp linguini and it's just dry noodles that tasted like mac and cheese with 4 barely cooked shrimp. My family didn't like their food either and it was way overpriced for what they gave us. Also ordered the buffalo milk cocktail, it was nasty. Just a huge disappointment and horrible customer service from the ogm there. Our server we had was very nice and is the only reason I'm giving two stars to this horrible establishment. We love this restaurant! Love to sit on the patio on the rail. Our favorite is Julian. He's always so great and his service is perfect, he knows us when we come in 4x a year. Today we noticed the restaurant was out of everything and the buns for the burgers were store bought cheap small ones. The owners need to get with it! This is a great location and has good workers. The food was 10/10. My husband loved the ahi nachos and his drink the Svelt strawberry! I had the breakfast sandwich which was amazing as well. Tonight's service was Terrible. I was looking forwarded to coming here with all the great reviews and food/drinks posted on Yelp. I arrived close to closing hours and my parter & I wanted to order one drink. The front desk greeted us and informed us ahead of time, they didn't have some of the items available in the menu, again we just wanted to order a drink. After being seated, we looked over the menu and we were waiting for the service to take our order. We waited about 15 to 17 minutes and none of the servers were acknowledging us. I kept waiting patiently, and there was a party of four that arrived a few minutes after us and the server serve them instead of us! I was again waiting patiently, and I saw the front desk closing out a customers dinner bill and they were sitting next to us. I told her that we are ready to order and she completely walked away, pretending that she did not hear me at all! Lastly, I did turn a few times and I noticed the server kept looking and acting she was doing something to avoid come to us! We left since no wanted to service us and such a waste time. The only person who acknowledged us and provide service was the gentleman who seated us and provided us our menu but afterwards, it went down hill right away. read more

First time at the Naughty Fox. Why Naughty not Knotty, which has more of a seafaring feel? Or maybe Nautical Fox? Walked over to put in my to-go order, but they were out of the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. Yet they still had the blackened chicken sandwich. I guess it's not the same cut of chicken for both sandwiches. We conferred and ordered a few things: 1) the blackened chicken sandwich, but grilled not blackened. It had tzatziki sauce, pickled red onions, tomato, and arugula (they were out, so just lettuce) on brioche and came with "patatas bravas"; 2) blackened shrimp bowl; and 3) mac and cheese. The plain mac and cheese had a good presentation but their beer cheese sauce and white cheddar were pretty mellow and mild. Suggestion: make it cheesier and add the option to spice it up. I liked the amount of bread crumbs. The description said it had green onions, but it didn't. Good portion size. Liked it! Also shared some of the "patatas bravas," but they looked more like regular fries with a red sauce over top, not fried potato chunks or slices. We stayed at the Bellanca Hotel, so The Naughty Fox was our first stop once we arrived at Avalon. We were for brunch and really liked the options here although they were out of the chicken and waffle. I had their Catalina Sandwich, which is a bagel sandwich with a side. The food was good but as what you would expect. The Avocado Crush was great! Very delicious! Good brunch portion. Unfortunately, the service here wasn't very good. We had a group of 8 people and had to split to two tables and the server kept telling us that we couldn't move around or stand next to our friends. I understand they are "following the rules", but it was just a vibe killer that we were hoping to enjoy the relax time there. The view of the restaurant right out the bay was great. Two girls working (both long dark hair). We sat for about 10 minutes after they told us they'd bring our menus out and we ended up having to go ask for a menu. Then ten minutes later had to go ask if we can order a drink. Were about to leave but she finally came out to take our order and said they were out of few things we tried ordering. Got an appetizer and blackened shrimp I had last time. They brought out our appetizer with our meal and some plastic forks and spoons.Everything was disappointing. Got the hummus and naan to share with shrimp tacos as my meal. Both were excellent! Tacos were served with big shrimps packed with flavor! The pickled red onions served in the tacos was the perfect combination. Love the crispy chickpeas with the hummus and naan. Order extra naan since it was so good and toasted to perfection. Got it to shared and ended up with only a couple of pieces since my family ate it all! The view from where I sat was great. A bit noisy when golf carts are putting around but it definitely showed the liveliness of Avalon. Service was awesome, especially being served by a "foxy" beauty named Wolf with a great sense of humor. Definitely a place to go to and come back! Hub's bacon burger had good flavor and there was a good amount of bacon too which is always a plus. The papas bravas were cooked great as well and the consistency of the fries were good. They were well seasoned and the sauce was great as well, but could be spicy for some people. The ambiance was ok, but we appreciated the umbrellas for outside seating. The staff is very nice and did their best to accommodate the big group and all of the orders. Located at the end of the main stretch in Avalon, the Naughty Fox is a cheekily-named small restaurant that's part of the Bellanca hotel. Seating is limited, so it's important to go early to snag a spot either outdoors or inside at the bar. I ordered a chili mango margarita, which was strong and spicy-- loved it! My lobster BLT was just okay, though: I felt that frying the lobster was unnecessary, but otherwise it was okay: the bun was crispy and buttery and inside was chockful of bacon, lettuce, and tomatoes. Our server was nice and accommodating, although I could tell that the place was understaffed. It would've also been nice for the restaurant to have the umbrellas turned up at the start of the day, as well as more room to cover the seats-- but with limited space, it was a challenge.
