My wife and I stopped by JL's Locker Room as part of a bar crawl during our Catalina trip. Since it was the off-season, there are only a handful of bars open, so we decided to check it out. When we walked in, the place was extremely loud, even though there weren't many people inside--maybe around 25 total. Every TV had sports playing, which is fine for a sports bar, but neither my wife nor I are big sports people. We still decided to grab a drink and give it a chance. Unfortunately, the service really missed the mark. The bartender seemed completely uninterested and stayed on his phone for several minutes before even acknowledging us. Once I finally got his attention, I ordered a vodka cranberry for my wife and a beer for myself. Instead, he made her a vodka Red Bull, which was odd--but at that point we just wanted to move on, so she drank it. We quickly realized it wasn't our scene. Between how loud it was and the overall vibe, we decided to cash out. That ended up taking another 9 minutes just to get the bartender to look up from his phone so we could pay. I wouldn't recommend this spot based on our experience. Unfortunately, when visiting Catalina in the off-season, your bar options are pretty limited. read more

Playing pool and put a$5 in for 5 games. Locals came in and they were able to shut the pool table off and say you were only allowed to put $1 in for one game. Blasted their music the whole time while playing the first game to make it as uncomfortable as possible. I'd say it's a locals only place as they have ways to force the visitors out. Everytime we're in Catalina, by cruise ship or hanging out a few days in a vacation rental- The Locker Room is our choice bar on the island. Fact 1- opens at 10am. Fact 2- PLENTY of tv's playing sports, duh. Fact 3- overhead music playing.... is there, was there a jukebox? :/ Never paid attention to that because I'm so busy meeting other tourists, meeting locals, & chatting up w/ the bartenders. Fact 4- 2 pool tables!!! This is one of the main reasons why we stop by here! Fact 5- dart board, pinball machine or some other arcade game, & a shooting buck game. The Carnival Imagination's 4 day itinerary has a stop in Santa Catalina Island. Passengers were allowed from 7:30am- 4pm to hang out, shop and/ or explore the many activities this destination offers. For us, it would just be wrong if we did NOT stop by TLR. Brian was our bartender for the day. And yes, we did make a stop before & after our scheduled tour of the Avalon Casino. And yes, Brian and the great vibes in TLR is what has us returning again and again. 2 years ago was our last visit here & I made sure to buy a t shirt to start off my t shirt quilt (collecting from all of my travels). This recent visit, I purchased a tank top for $10. Plenty of liquor choices available, draft & bottled beers. Even chilled Jaegermeister. I can't speak of the men's restrooms. But, the ladies- has the same funny "handwritten decor" inside the stalls. No food is served here. And I'm not sure if food is allowed to be brought in here. I just never inquired. read more

The local watering hole! This is the place to go in Catalina. My girlfriend and I spent hours on our last day just enjoying the local banter and great drinks. Oh, and the pours are HEAVY. Makes sense why it's such a staple. If you get a chance to deal with Rad you'll love how you'll feel like home. A must visit for all Catalina tourists. read more

Locals bar, not tourist friendly. We went in and a couple people in our group were wearing straw hats from Luau Larry's around the block. On arrival they were told "they won't serve you with those on". We went in for drinks, listened to music, and had a great time. We were walking out the door and a member of our group was slapped in the head and his straw hat knocked off by a local, who continued to kick the hat to the curb. Harsh words were exchanged and we were told, "he's a local, a good guy". There are many places to spend our money and have fun. Came to this bar ore-COVID-19. Terrible service and patrons. The place was empty when we arrived and we were completely ignored sitting at the bar. I had to flag the bartender who was busy chit chatting at the other end. After about an hour, the place starting filling up. We left our drinks at the bar with a napkin while we used the WC and when we got back, our seats were taken and our drinks pushed to a side. Wow. Really? This place had some nice screens for game watching. Hoever, the seats are not placed in conducive places to utilize the screens. We were sitting inches from a 50- inch screen! The staff is very nice and open to changing the TV to the game you want to watch. The drinks are cheap and they have some quality beers on tap. $5 for a large beer. There is one pool table and live entertainment on certian nights. Minus stars for the fact that there are people smoking pretty much in the doorway of the bar, so you can't come and go without inhaling massive amounts of second hand smoke. read more

This place was awful and doesn't deserve the 1 star rating that I'm giving it. We decided to go here after talking to several locals who suggested it to watch the Kings Hockey game. The Boston Celtics and Miami Heat were also playing game 7. They had ONE BARTENDER working the entire bar and we waited nearly 45 minutes for drinks. I thought smoking indoors was banned in California but apparently that law doesn't apply to the bartender. He lit a cigarette every 5 minutes and left it to burn in an ash tray located by the bars front window. The breeze would blow in and carry the smoke throughout the bar, causing it to reek of a nasty stench (see photo). You think the management or owner would have figured out this was going to be a busy night for bar goers. The bartender was a complete jerk and refused to turn up the volume to the Kings game despite repeated complaints from all the customers. Literally, 90% of the customers were complaining for the volume to be turned up. The bartender finally turned up the volume midway through the second period and the entire place erupted in cheers. This pompous self-centered bartender then raised his middle finger high in the air and flipped off all of us. I couldn't believe what I had just seen. Avoid this place at all costs, it's just another trashed out bar trying to suck money from the wallets of tourists. read more

Another locals bar for sure. I actually thought the place was pretty decent, it was a pretty big place, and they too have live music on the weekends. We came in for a few drinks and to buy a t-shirt before our dinner reservations. The service was slow, and yet it wasn't even busy. What irked me the most is a few of the locals wouldn't leave us alone to look around and enjoy the old school pictures of athletes and whatnot that adorn the walls. They kept trying to get our business, and sell us on stuff we didn't want to do, or have time to do, and they also happened to be three sheets to the wind, so they kept asking us over and over again where we were from, and kept offering us the deal of a lifetime, only to keep changing the price on us. We left after our second drink, we just wanted to enjoy ourselves not agree to give anyone our business. Boo! :( read more
