Our server, Bryce, was on his A game despite being sat with a bunch of tables at once.. he managed it all well. Our order came was delivered perfectly, thanks Bryce. We were at Steve's for a birthday dinner and ordered two steaks, the NY strip and the ribeye. Both were seasoned well and cooked to the desired temp. The only downside was the way they were cooked, which is more of a personal preference than anything against the restaurant. Both steaks have high fat content, we all know this and that's why we get them, but some of the fat should be rendered during the cooking process so it's a bit more edible, but that wasn't the case with these steaks. All in all; I do think it's one of the better restaurants on the island, but having the option for a flat top or grilled cook type would've been preferable for us. Yes, the steakhouse on Catalina Island is the best vegan restaurant on the island. Not only do they have a lot of vegan options but the food is high quality, fresh and very well made. Prices are reasonable and similar to other restaurants in LA/OC. Service is beyond amazing and everyone (not only your server) will make sure that you are taken care of even on the busiest of nights. We stayed on the island for 3 nights and we had dinner at Steve's on all 3 and I would definitely come back. read more

This place was amazing. From the cute music selection to the food to the service! I am very picky with Micheladas this one was YUM! I'll probably dream about the scallops and fillet mignon, the taste was the best I've ever had. The seasoning on the fillet mignon was perfect!!! I wish I could recreate it at home, but I know I'll never come close. Lastly, a big shout out to Johnny! He was hilarious, attentive and just very kind. The service staff here are awesome. All very nice and accommodating. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly. The fried jumbo shrimp is in a tempura batter. Which we didnt care for,but the grilled version looked delicious! The baked potatoe was made to fluffy perfection. If i were to critique. They should offer a couple sizes on the filet. The rib eye was really good. Cooked to perfection, but given the price, i would have expected a better cut, it was almost a petite thin cut, but they said it was 9oz. The baked potatoe also made like the other. Just right! We ordered the sourdough bread basket and asked for extra butter, soooo good. If we would have been more hungry, we would have had some apps and or dessert, but we will definitely be back. Make sure to ask for both the creamed and fresh horseradish, it was on point! The lemon drop could have been bigger and a little stiffer, lol. . But was super good. If i had a critique to align it with steak houses. Maybe the offering if iced water or an option for rockerfeller oysters.. But honestly, the view was great, the service was outstanding, food cooked great! Made reservations for my friends bday. There's a nice view of the ocean if you get seated by the windows. Our waiter was very distracted and kept talking with his coworkers and doing other things when he was supposed to be taking our orders so it took a long time to place our orders. His service was sub par. He also failed to tell us that we have to pay for water when we ordered so we were surprised a small bottle of water costs $6!! We all got different foods and enjoyed everything we ordered. Our food came out quickly which was a plus! I got swordfish piccata and clam chowder. My friends got the pasta of the day, surf and turf. Everything was cooked well and had good flavor. We got the triple chocolate cake for dessert which was rich and filling. Timing is everything, and we were lucky enough to get the second floor window seating, see my view pics. Even though it was overcast, we still liked our view and weather. To get here, you'll have to find the stair way access from the boardwalk - but it's worth it. Occasionally they will have tables set up on the beach, which we have done and enjoyed the change of venue. Our waiter was very quick and efficient, and knowledgeable. Our drinks came out quickly. We shared the 6 oz Filet. It was cooked exactly as ordered. It was very tender and had that rich, meaty flavor. It had an ample amount of seasoning (you can see in my pic some of the cracked pepper). The potato was baked (which meant the skin was cooked just right). I would readily order these again. Trying to have a healthful balance, we shared the Cauliflower Steak. (We ordered this medium rare .......... get it ha ha ha: it's a veggie - it isn't like ordering meat. Our waiter eventually got it - I thought it was funny.) While we like cauliflower, and it was cooked properly, we weren't fans of the vegan sauce and the vegan cheese, see pic. The asparagus was good and we liked the sweet potato fries. Next time we'll let steak be meat. Great location, great second floor view and great steak. read more

A must visit if you're visiting Catalina Island Vegetarian Cauliflower 8.5/10: the cheese threw me off but it almost tasted like an in n out patty, but meatless! The chef recommended this dish & even though he wasn't vegetarian, it's still one of his favorites Duck Wonton Taquitos 9/10: these were aaamazing! The duck was tender & juicy, perfectly crispy, however the Asian sauce was a bit too heavy for me Butternut Squash 8.5/10: personally the butternut squash irritated my mouth, but had an amazing buttery flavor! They offered this dish with tomato cream sauce or Alfredo sauce Sword Fish 7/10: first time having swordfish & personally it had the texture of chicken, but softer. It was a nice thick piece, but could have used a bit more seasoning, was a bit bland and slightly dry (I may be bakers because this was our first time) Overall service was great & would definitely pay this restaurant another visit when visiting Catalina Island ! read more

For health reasons, I can't eat gluten so finding some pasta noodles mixed in the rice wasn't pleasant. Disappointing that the serving spoons were crossed. Adam was our server and he was very kind. The inside is really cute and nicely lit. We got the sautéed mushrooms as an appetizer and it was very delicious. For the main entree, I got the halibut with rice. The fruit salsa on top was great and was carrying the halibut, which lacked a ton of flavor. There's salt and pepper shakers on every table, but they should add some hot sauce. read more

One of my favorites was the Barramundi Sea Bass, which was perfectly seasoned and cooked with a lemon caper sauce. My husband had a perfectly cooked rib eye steak which he said was one of the best he had ever had. Our server, Bryce, made it a fun and memorable experience as well. Came for dinner last night - we were frustrated at first because we were quoted a 30 min wait but wound up waiting a full hour. Once we were seated though, we had fabulous service and the most delightful waiter Johnny - he was so friendly and personable and took amazing care of us more than any other waiter I've ever had! The food wasn't extraordinary but was definitely very good and from my experience, perhaps one of the best restaurants on the island. The food was excellent! However, I suggest that they ditch the fast food style paper napkins and get some proper napkins for the semi-upscale setting that they provide. Also, it's super cheesy to not provide tap water to your customer when they request it, and bring our bottled water at a charge without telling the customer first. We came to eat at Steve's Steakhouse for our final meal in Catalina Island on Friday night the 14th. My wife & I had dined here before and wanted to come back and take my kids here for a nice meal this trip. The views of the water from the upstairs dining room here are unreal, a nice part of the experience. We got calamari to start, and they gave us the spicy red sauce on the side so my kids could share. The calamari came cut into little strips and had a unique light breading. I can appreciate both of those things as most calamari is cooked the same. It was good. We got a burger, huge one, it was 1/2 pound, I got the bone in Ribeye which was on special, & my wife got the swordfish. All the food was cooked correctly and had good flavor. The staff was on it, they pre bus your table quickly, and are on top of refills and checking on you. We'll keep coming back when visiting Catalina. read more

What a wonderful experience and little gem we found during our recent getaway to Catalina. We were trying to figure out what to eat when we were wanting a good meal. After exploring the menu and talking to employees, we decided this was the place to go. Our waiter was fantastic and very engaging! We brought our own wine and the corkage fee was completely reasonable. We ordered a tomahawk to share, along with salad and sides. The food was so wonderful and was one of the best meals we had in a while. The bartender was great in crafting our pre-wine drinks, which was greatly appreciated. Dinner on the beach Island Style! Family owned and operated, Steve's Steakhouse has been a local favorite for as long as I can remember. At the end of our walk, my husband and I saw the beachside tables and chose to enjoy an early dinner. The owner/host ensures the quality of service and food are consistently the best and this meal was the absolute best dinner we have ever had on the island. I was on Yelp and I knew the menu by heart before we sat down. I ordered the Davis Bynum Russian River Pinot Noir and the Sourdough bread to start. The only surprise was the plastic wine glass but John, our server, explained that the city prohibits using glass on the beach. The evening light and warm temperatures made for the ideal dining experience. We both ordered the aged filet mignon with asparagus and agreed that the flavor and quality were well worth the cost. John, our server was very professional and ensured that everything was perfect and it was. He told us that the owner is always present in the restaurant and demands the best quality of every ingredient. We're recommending that you take the stairs up to Steve's Steakhouse or better yet, take advantage of the tables on the beach when the weather permits. Came here the first night we docked into Catalina. This restaurant is amazing! For being small, it has such a grand feeling. Me and my daughter were seated at the window, and our host and server were so friendly and efficient. Came here on a New Year's Day for dinner, and the place has very nice vibes. Dimly lit, quiet, nice view of the ocean from the second floor, and with professional staff who check in frequently. We had some calamari for appetizers, and they weren't as crispy as I would've liked but it is full of tasty fresh squid. I had a rib eye steak which was grilled with the old fashioned black squares sear. Mostly very juicy as a medium rare, but some parts were chewy and stringy. Also just a tad too salty but plenty of garlic and beef juice flavor as well. The pasta of the day was a shrimp linguini, and the flavor wasn't bad.
