Tuna sandwich

We stopped by for a quick sandwich. The location was convenient, as it is located just to the left of where the boat docked. We tried the tuna sandwich on sourdough and it was excellent. It tasted so fresh and was perfect for an afternoon snack.

Whether you're looking for breakfast, lunch or a quick snack - Eli's Island Deli has you covered. They also have lots of drinks and water and souvenirs. The store is modest in size but packs a tons of items in the space.

You just arrived to Avalon or leaving Avalon from the ferry landing, and hungry or forgot something - then go to Eli's Island Deli. I've walked past this place for years and never saw them. It can be found straight across from the ticketing office. Expand my pic and you'll see all your food options. But there's more ........ this place is packed floor to ceiling.

Best tuna sandwich on island, hands down. Quick to go service, and with a smile. I always come back for this!

Albacore tuna sandwich on honey wheat bread, no Mayo on bread.

Best sandwich shop in Catalina. I always try to stop here. I love the Tuna (albacore) on honey wheat bread. So fresh & healthy. Someone else mentioned in their review that they like getting it without Mayo on the bread so I did the same and loved it. A little dry but that's how I like it. Comes with lettuce and cheese. For the side you get a choice of chips, cookies or pickle. My husband had the turkey on sub roll. No eat in service but there are benches right outside that you can eat at. Since it's right where the fairies come and go, I like to grab a sandwich and eat it on the fairy on my way back to the mainland. $30 for two sandwiches

Morning after breakfast wrap

What better way to spend your morning waiting on the ferry than by grabbing a "morning after wrap". No wait and delicious wrap.

Recently went there and felt like I was misled. On their "Specials" board they had Rosemary Roast Beef Sandwich that listed "Focaccia" bread as the type of bread. Only reason I went there and purchased the sandwich is because "focaccia" got my attention--I love focaccia bread. Got my sandwich and got something looking like ciabatta bread and tasting like ciabatta bread, not focaccia. Focaccia bread is similar to tasting like pizza dough bread. Brought this to the staff's attention, and they said yeah this is focaccia bread. I just left things as is. My recommendation is for the staff to become knowledgeable on types of bread and make sure u list the actual bread used on the sandwich. Other than that, sandwich was ok nothing spectacular. I recommend to go to Coney Island West Restaurant. I like their sandwiches better their and cheaper too.

Holidaze wrap

Thie has always been my go-to for a bite to eat in Avalon since I'm usually only on the island for about 2 hours at a time for work and I don't have time to eat at a sit-down type of restaurant. Hands down, my favorite item is the Holidaze which is their take on a Thanksgiving dinner inside a wrap... the thing that makes it out of this world is the stuffing! Highly recommend stopping in (you can't miss it if you take the Catalina Express over as it's at the dock) as their food is great and the staff have never been nothing but friendly when I stop in.

The first thing you notice is the vibe. The place leans into a classic, old-school pizzeria feel with a 1950s-style theme and casual seating. You walk in, order at the counter, and either grab a table or take your slice to go. It feels local, not overly polished, which adds to the experience. The pizza stands out for its thin, slightly crispy crust with a soft chew. The sauce and cheese balance well, and the slices come out hot and loaded with flavor. If you like a New York-style slice with a bit of grease and crunch, this hits. One of the best parts is the flexibility. You grab pizza by the slice, which makes it easy to try different toppings without committing to a whole pie. That works well for visitors who want something quick between activities. The menu goes beyond pizza too. You'll find pasta, sandwiches, garlic bread, and salads, so there's something for everyone in your group. Service is straightforward and friendly. Nothing over the top, but efficient and welcoming, which fits the casual island atmosphere. The place gets busy, so expect a bit of a crowd during peak hours. Overall, Original Antonio's is a solid, no-frills pizza stop on Catalina Island. You go here for a quick, flavorful slice and a relaxed local feel, not a fancy dining experience. If you're in Avalon and want dependable pizza, this spot earns a stop.

I tried the Torpedo sandwich, and while it was good, I realized I personally prefer hot sandwiches over cold ones so for me, the food was just okay this time. It's more of a quick stop spot than a place to hang out. Overall, a solid place to check out if you're in the 2nd Street area, especially with the great service.

Unfortunately since I didn't see what the #19 looked like before I ordered; I believe it definitely jaded me. First off, the location is terrible. Look it's probably me, but it felt dangerous. I guess I am not used to places like that. Just everything made me feel uneasy while walking to Langer's. I read that the owner is talking to the mayor to address things.... In any case, I got in, got out and took my #19 to another location. I opened it up and it didn't look like any NYC pastrami sandwich I have ever seen. I guess this is the way it used to be before the NYC sandwiches started getting ridiculously huge? I took a bite and I did like the crusty rye bread. Unlike a lot of NYC places where the bread is just to hold the meat, this one was toasty and tasty. However when I ate this sandwich, the coleslaw and Russian dressing dominated the taste. Was it good? Yes. Was it the "one" sandwich to eat if you are in Los Angeles? I don't think so. I guess we are so jaded with huge pastrami or fancy new sandwiches that this just seems so underwhelming. Add to the hyperbole about it being THE ONE to get and it just falls flat in the comparison. It's a good sandwich and if I ate for the last 30 years, I'd probably feel the hype was justified.

The sambal chili aioli was a sleeper - it packed in a ton of unexpected spice. Deliciously unexpected. The thick toasted brioche bun also added a layer of sweetness. We ordered the turkey BLT because it was a special. It was, of course, delish, but I should have kept to the tried and trues. I'll definitely be back. Also PSA and order your sandwiches for pickup. They offer a wide variety of subs, with both preset combinations and a build-your-own option. In addition to sandwiches, they also have homemade salads like tuna and chicken, along with classic sides such as potato salad, macaroni salad, and coleslaw. My wife and I ordered a couple of different sandwiches to try. First up was the Reuben, which can be made with either pastrami or corned beef. They were accommodating and split it for us with half of each -- a nice touch. They use Boar's Head products, so you're getting premium-quality meats and cheeses. The Reuben was served on squaw bread (by request) and loaded with a generous portion of meat, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Thousand Island dressing. The meat was almost shaved and incredibly tender. The only minor downside was that it leaned slightly dry -- a bit more dressing or mustard would have brought everything together better. Still, a strong 10/10. Next was the Italian sub, which was also well put together with generous portions of meat and cheese, plus lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Very solid. We also ordered a medium potato salad. It was good, though more average compared to the sandwiches. The staff was very friendly and willing to assist with your order, then bring your order to your table . Unfortunately seating is limited inside. Overall, a great experience and definitely a spot I'd return to.
