They have a wide variety of sandwiches so it took a good minute before deciding on what to order. Staff was welcoming and will call out your order when it's ready for pickup. With each sandwich order you get to choose the type of bread you want and a small bag of chips or cookies. I decided on the Canadian bacon on focaccia. My friend got ham. My meal was $16 and I felt it was overpriced. We both agreed we wished the bread was warmed up. It's definitely like a basic sandwich you can make at home. Might just be the best sandwiches on the island! Tons of great options and combinations. Service is fast and it's a great spot to grab a last minute souvenir. Ginger chews and Dramamine are a must if you're sensitive to the ferry ride. Great candy selection if you want some quicks snacks as well. read more

They ripped me off and they'll rip you off. I bought a pair of sunglasses here. The next day, I noticed that the frame was sliding off of the lens - one of the screws was missing. An easy fix, right? So I went back... and they refused to fix it, refund me, or do an exchange, claiming "I could have done something to it after I bought it." I later took it to an eyeglass shop. They looked at it... and showed me that the reason that there was no screw is because there was NO HOLE DRILLED ALL THE WAY THROUGH for a screw to go through. So, literally impossible for me to have "done something to it" - it never had a screw in the first place. I learned a valuable lesson: NEVER buy sunglasses (or anything, really) from an island location that you can't easily get back to. They were well aware that I would almost certainly never be back, so they knew they could get away with taking my money and not selling me what I thought I was buying. Catalina is a lovely island with lovely shops - this isn't one of them. You can go literally anywhere else, less than a hundred feet away, and get the exact same thing for less, and from a more honest merchant. read more

Someone else mentioned in their review that they like getting it without Mayo on the bread so I did the same and loved it. A little dry but that's how I like it. Comes with lettuce and cheese. For the side you get a choice of chips, cookies or pickle. My husband had the turkey on sub roll. No eat in service but there are benches right outside that you can eat at. Recently went there and felt like I was misled. On their "Specials" board they had Rosemary Roast Beef Sandwich that listed "Focaccia" bread as the type of bread. Only reason I went there and purchased the sandwich is because "focaccia" got my attention--I love focaccia bread. Got my sandwich and got something looking like ciabatta bread and tasting like ciabatta bread, not focaccia. Focaccia bread is similar to tasting like pizza dough bread. Brought this to the staff's attention, and they said yeah this is focaccia bread. I just left things as is. My recommendation is for the staff to become knowledgeable on types of bread and make sure u list the actual bread used on the sandwich. Other than that, sandwich was ok nothing spectacular. I recommend to go to Coney Island West Restaurant. I like their sandwiches better their and cheaper too. read more

If you get a sandwich, I suggest you get the tuna sandwich. I got mine on wheat bread and comes with lettuce and tomato. I requested pickles and relish too. Delicious. I think they might be using Claussen pickles because everything tasted so fresh and the pickles were very crispy. I requested sandwich without cheese and with no mayo, because I feel like the tuna already is mixed with mayo and the cheese would just distract from the tuna. The staff behind the counter are very kind and readily give great recommendations. I had asked about the turkey sandwich, and I said that I was trying to decide between turkey and tuna, and they immediately said go for the tuna. I'm very glad that I did, because the turkey is not smoked turkey I only really like smoked turkey in a sandwich. After receiving your sandwich, you should eat it while walking if it is summertime. Or you should least find a windy spot. This is because there are some hornets or yellow-jackets that like to home-in on you if you are carrying exposed tuna. Thie has always been my go-to for a bite to eat in Avalon since I'm usually only on the island for about 2 hours at a time for work and I don't have time to eat at a sit-down type of restaurant. Hands down, my favorite item is the Holidaze which is their take on a Thanksgiving dinner inside a wrap... the thing that makes it out of this world is the stuffing! Highly recommend stopping in (you can't miss it if you take the Catalina Express over as it's at the dock) as their food is great and the staff have never been nothing but friendly when I stop in. read more

Annoyed for a couple of reasons. First, being overcharged for souvenirs. I get that rinky dink souvenirs are overpriced, what I don't get it how the display had one price yet the cashier made up her own prices. Literally asking another employee for each item's (small shells) price. The other employee kept telling her "idk just charge $5.99" when the display clearly said $3.99. I didn't want to ruin the mood with my family so I let it go, but $67 for a handful of shells I could have picked off the beach is a little excessive. Secondly, I placed an order for 2 turkey sandwiches. No substitutions, just as labeled. 20 minutes later I'm still waiting and notice nobody is in the open visable kitchen. I inquire about how much longer and was asked when was my boat leaving...ummm why??? Well, turns out the "chef" went to the restroom and hadn't come back!!! I politely asked for a refund since my boat had docked and would be boarding shortly. They refused and said it would be just a few more minutes since the "chef" decided to show back up. Another 10 minutes go by and this man is working at the pace of a slug. How hard is it to slap some turkey on bread? The worse part is after that whole fiasco, the sandwich was gross.
