Fish and chips and burger with avocado
    Neth D.

Looks like the bad reviews in the past ~12 months is saying the food quality has gone down from what it used to be . So I want to provide a more recent review since it's summer and a lot of people will be heading out to Avalon and Two harbor. This review is for 5/29/2022. First off this isn't a 5 star hotel. You need to lower your expectations considering this is 1 of the 2 restaurants in two harbor where there's a population of ~150 and far less visitors than Avalon. That said the food is decent. We got 2 burgers,2 fish and chips and 4 sodas. All came to ~$111 ($17 for burger $20 for fish and chips) the burgers were solid and after a long day of activities will fill you up. Just imagine a backyard style burger. They got all the condiments you want from Mayo to hot sauce and siracha. The fish and chips look better than they taste but nevertheless for what it is and where it's from it's pretty solid. The fish is a little try Dry might be from over frying or just using slightly older fish that's been sitting. I want to say we finished all the food because we were starving. Over all I would recommend this place because the service is much faster than the other restaurant especially if you're doing the jetski2catalina tour and don't have much time.

They upped the game up for summer time. The issue out here has always been consistency so this visit was made in mid to early June. Fish and chips gives you two LARGE pieces of fish. It was about $17 I think. BF said they were good! The tuna melt I was so happy to see as the airport cancelled it and NO where on the entire island has it but here. Good but I swapped out the Swiss for cheddar (it's just better on tuna). Great portions considering the slight influx to price but that's all over the place not just here and food and operating costs go into all these price decisions. Over all very happy and will be back out here. Service gals inside could've been better but they're summer kids with little supervision. There's no restaurant manager at the Galley. So you order your food from the tweenager and just get your vibrating tab and go sit wherever you want on the patio. When buzzer goes off you get your own food. No tips required here unless we're tipping for smiles and to toss money away. Save tips for the bar. Only give 4 stars as this basically a grab n go without service to tables which is probably easier so the kids don't need to run back and forth grabbing condiments and napkins. You get yourself.

Lunch menu is just pathetic. No sandwiches, pizza or salads. Used to be much, much better. Staff is great, however!

Our server was very friendly and took the time to explain the menu before we ordered. The chilaquiles were authentic and delicious, especially paired with the fresh side of beans. The pancakes were fluffy, buttery, and cooked perfectly. The restaurant was clean, the staff was welcoming, and we enjoyed a nice view of the island while dining. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely recommend stopping by for breakfast. The only downside was the waiting area. There was quite a bit of luggage from other guests, so you need to watch your step to avoid tripping over straps or bags. Other than that, it was a great visit and a place worth checking out when you're in Catalina.

The hash was OK--would have liked more of a crisp to it and seasoning. And the pancakes... the texture threw me off a bit. It was kind of bread-y and not as fluffy as you'd expect. My partner ordered the Chorizo Sizzler, which, as the name suggests, came out of the kitchen smoking on a sizzling plate. As the heart of the dish, the chorizo actually had a nice flavor to it--it was just drowned in a sea of thickly cut potato wedges. Service: No complaints. Ambiance: While there was a sprinkle of decor throughout, I couldn't tell what the vibe was from this place--rustic? However, it felt lively at breakfast--all tables were filled, both inside and out.

Justin was the one who helped us, and he made the whole experience so much easier. He introduced himself, was very patient with us, and never made us feel rushed. He gave us time to look through the menu and answered all of our questions with a smile. My mom was worried about not being able to communicate, but Justin made her feel comfortable and welcome from the start. That meant a lot to us. The restaurant itself also had a really warm and cozy atmosphere. We loved the country-style interior. It felt welcoming and relaxed, which made it even easier for us to enjoy our first restaurant experience in America. Justin also took the time to recommend some great places to visit on the island and even gave us some suggestions for Los Angeles. You can tell he genuinely cares about people and wants them to have a good experience. This was honestly one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. Justin played a big part in making our first trip to America such a positive memory. Thank you, Justin!

I really liked the atmosphere and menu selection, but the service and food timing definitely need improvement.

Sometimes on quiet days in town there is a wait because the cashier is also responsible for preparing the food/drinks, but it's always reasonable. The prices are very fair, they do not hit you with the "mountain tax" at all. The drip coffee is tasty and the espresso is good as well! I haven't had the pastries yet but they look good, especially the donuts, and I'm excited to come back and taste them. Today I had the breakfast burrito, the cashier was very helpful and accommodating of some recent dietary restrictions I have developed, and she made me a great burrito! I swapped out the bacon for avocado (not normal for me, but like I said, dietary restrictions) and it was just as good as with bacon! My burrito has avocado, eggs, hash browns and tomatoes, and it was exactly what I needed. Good to note that the only bread option is sourdough, however, it is very tasty homemade and fresh sourdough, which is quite the treat. Unfortunately, not for me today, but I have enjoyed it in the past. I usually get to go and drive up the hill to picnic with a view, but I'm looking forward to eating in one day. That atmosphere is very cozy and calm, both the inside and the patio are nice. Speaking of atmosphere, I was happy to see many pride and pro LGBTQ flags in the restaurant, helping foster a welcoming environment for all. TLDR - 1. Good food , good coffee , very fair prices. Mostly serving sandwiches, pastries, coffee. 2. Friendly and welcoming atmosphere and staff. 3. Big wine selection. 4. Cozy interior or nice patio for Al fresco dining.

Everything I had here was really good, nothing here wasn't delicious. The standouts for me personally were the salad which was absolutely delicious even though I'm not the biggest salad guy, but the chicken was perfectly grilled and seasoned and the lettuce had good add ons to make every bite flavorful, and the chocolate cake which was extremely rich. It's also worth mentioning that my party of 8 showed up at 8:40pm and closing time was 9pm (the hostess let us know that this was okay a few hours prior when scheduling our reservation) yet the service never seemed upset, pushy, or any way negative toward us which tbh I would. The drive up to the airport was beautiful. We got to see the nature and back country of Catalina Island. Plus we got to check off the Airport in the Sky restaurant off of our small airport diners list. Once we got to the airport, we took a look around and decided to take off on a hike. The weather was perfect and the hike was beautiful. As we rounded a corner we looked up and off on a nearby hill was a buffalo just grazing. After the hike we went back to the restaurant and ordered our lunch. Mr. B had a nice cold beer and I chose an iced tea. He ordered a burger and I was in the mood for diner food, so a grilled cheese and fries for me. The burger was great. Stuffed with onion, crispy bacon, a juicy burger and topped with avocado. The fries were like steak fries and were hot and yummy. My grilled cheese was delicious. The bread was nicely toasted and the cheese was melted and gooey, just the way a grilled cheese should be. We sat on the patio, and watched pilots come and go, hiker's come and go. Small tour vans bring guests for a short time to grab a cold drink come and go. It was sunny and beautiful on the patio. We chose a Killer Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip cookie to go. We walked over and watched planes take off and land while eating our cookie before our shuttle van was back to take us down to Avalon. We booked the shuttle through Catalina Conservancy which was a better option than a tour van or taxi. Just note, it can be pricey to get up and back and then add a meal on top of it, so be prepared. But it was well worth the trip, and the hike was fabulous.
