It's been many years since trying the Orient Pearl, and we wanted to give it a shot since we were in the area, and heard it is under new management. We dined a little later than the usual lunch hour, and before the dinner hour so the restaurant was not very busy. We had a pleasant server who explained we were too late for the buffet, but could still order the lunch specials. We found the food to be reasonably priced, and was delivered promptly. I tried a chicken lo mein plate with an eggroll. While the lo mein and fried rice were tasty, the eggroll sadly was only warm and very oily, dripping with oil. Perhaps the fryer was not at the proper temperature for a correct fry. The other luncheon plate we tried was beef and brocolli, also very tasty. Oddly, this restaurant does not serve tea, nor does it provide a fortune cookie at the end of the meal. This is the first and only Chinese style restaurant where we've experienced that. This place has some of the best Chinese food in NH! I absolutely love the lo mein it's so flavorful and the noodles are always so bouncy and delicious. The garlic broccoli is my top favorite dish from here, it's flavorful and the broccoli is crunchy. I love that they include other vegetables in the dish along with the broccoli. I've also gotten the Singapore noodles from here and it was really tasty. It's very clean inside and the staff is always friendly. Even when it's busy the staff is always attentive and polite and I've never had an issue with an order being late or incorrect. I highly recommend this place especially if you're vegetarian or vegan, they have a great selection of dishes with no meat or seafood and you can substitute meat for bean curd or tofu. read more

We've eaten here several times, most were good experiences. This last trip was a different story. We did our usual order, Fried rice, chicken fingers, beef teriyaki and Egg Foo Young. I'm a big fan of Egg Foo Young, when it's made right. I've had it here in the past and it was OK. This trip, Not anywhere near what EFY should be like. This order was very watery, no flavor at all and very loose. More like a pasta consistency. The beef teriyaki pieces were on the small side and very dry. The fried rice was Great as were the chicken fingers. We don't see us going back very soon, several other places to get decent Chinese food in this area. One of the only buffets around and I was really rooting for it. The music was super loud, staff unfriendly and disorganized and the food....barely 2 star food. None of it was really hot, it was warm. The flavor just wasn't there. I didn't feel like any of it really tasted "good." Egg rolls had an off flavor, rangoons were full of cream cheese and nothing else. The whole experience was lacking. Last couple of times my experience has been totally average which is a downgrade from the previous owner. Each time there were different issues so while the food for the most part is good, there were issues with either service or wait for food. Prices are a little above average for the area. Should also warn there is a 5% surcharge for credit cards (they call it a 5% cash discount). Food is good overall but falls short of great. General Tso's was made with poor quality cuts of chicken with multiple pieces inedible due to gristle. Chicken Teriyaki was decent but made with small chunks of chicken. Lo Mein was incredibly oily and made all who ate it feel gross afterward. This place has been in a slow decline and for the price they are charging is no longer worth it. I won't be back. Stopped in to check out the lunch buffet today and are happy that we did! There were at least 18 different items and i tried a bit of almost all of them. I black pepper chicken, lo mein, angus beef with veggies, orange chicken, shrimp with veggies, boneless ribs, crab rangoon, green jade, crab rangoon, Gen Tso's chicken, coconut shrimp and a couple other things. Very different range of flavors--it wasn't as if they substituted a pea pod in this recipe for broccoli in that one or light soy for dark vinegar or something. Would be zero stars if possible. Placed an order for pick up on Valentine's Day. Arrived at restaurant and the small area for pickups was packed with people waiting. Joined the crowd and waited for about 25 minutes. Now it's well beyond my pickup time and after seeing only 2 orders come out since arriving, I contacted my better half and told her the kitchen was clearly in the weeds and there were a LOT of people waiting for pick up orders ahead of me. So we decided it was better just to cancel and go elsewhere for food. Woman at front desk was nice, but when I asked to cancel, she instead wrote down my order number and then ran to the kitchen. I thought that was bizarre, why not just let me cancel since clearly they were behind. While she was gone I found out the nice couple next to me had been waiting for an hour. It was a holiday so we all understood completely, but why not listen to your customer and just cancel? Well, about 7 minutes later, my food came out -- just my food, no one else--even though a lot of people had been waiting longer than me, including the couple for now over an hour. That is not good service. Took the food feeling guilty. Could feel the heat coming off the takeout containers. As soon as I got in my car, I called and told my girlfriend they definitely slammed the order out after I tried to cancel.... 15 minutes later I arrive at home and we dive in for our Valentine's Day meal. I open up my lobster sauce, which is ground pork in a sauce. At least that's what it should be, instead in the container is some type of soup with mushrooms floating in it. Neither of us like mushrooms, so that's one dish that was now wasted. My girlfriend ordered orange chicken, She cut into a piece and the center was pink. As in raw. Disgusting. they rushed my order out and did not care about accuracy or the quality or the fact that it would make us sick. Immediately called and informed the manager of what happened, and I am now waiting for my refund to come through. Hopefully the restaurant takes this review as a learning experience. This place used to be our go to for sushi, but no longer. Tried it last night (takeout) under new ownership & was completely disappointed. I got a spicy tuna roll that was tempera & a bit of tuna mashed together in a mush & wrapped. There was no sauce that is typically on top of the roll. Also got salmon sashimi that did not taste sushi grade, was soft & mushy. The wasabi was not spicy & tasted horrible & the soy sauce tasted like salt had been added. Went here for dinner and tried the food (went for the buffet but didn't realize they closed that before they got there - our fault for not checking first!) We ordered: Chow Mein - which did not come with noodles. Traditional chow mein should be served with some type of noodles. Crab rangoons/chicken fingers were typical to our area. And sushi... Our sushi was not good. We have had sashimi and sushi at many different restaurants locally and have had much better quality. Sushi was not wrapped well. Tuna was not great quality. Was grayish and not typical color of fresh tuna. Shrimp tempura was a strange batter. Even the sweet potato tempura was more batter than sweet potato and was not wrapped correctly. The avocado on the roll was not presented well and looked smooshed. We watched the sushi chef eat and watch his phone before our order and did not see him wash his hands before making our order. So to read before hand that their chefs are better - it's not true! We have tipped chefs specifically for their craft before, so we know when a chef does a great job. (I understand cooks need to eat - but strange to see them eat directly at the sushi bar when they have no orders) Our waiter was extremely kind and pleasant and attentive. None of this was on him. He was great! When the owner realized we didn't really touch our sushi, he came over and abrasively asked us what was wrong. He did not come over with a friendly manner, it felt like he was trying to intimidate us into not leaving a bad review. He wasn't kind about it by any means and when I spoke up and said it wasn't my favorite he completely dismissed me and looked towards my husband who said he just didn't want to eat it. read more

Jay Bai recently bought the Orient Pearl and has changed everything for the better. The food is top quality and the flavors fresh and clean. Jay graciously stops by the table and talks to us about how proud he is of the improvements he's made, and it's true. Some of the most basic things can improve a restaurant - like changing the fryer oil, switching to a higher end supplier, and employing friendly staff. Jay has proudly done those basic things. The boneless spareribs are all pork, without any fat or grease, the chicken wings are crispy and practically the size of turkey legs. Last night we went back for the second time in two weeks and had General Tso's and Pu Pu Platter for 2 with House Special Fried Rice. It was the best Chinese food we've had since being in Boston's Chinatown. The General Tso's is all white meat, crispy and light with fresh vegetables. The House Special Fried rice has clean, fresh sprouts that are still crispy instead of wilting and fresh chicken. Jay made a point of telling us that he doesn't keep fried rice overnight like some places and uses a mix of japanese and another rice. The Pu Pu platter has tender, giant beef and chicken teriyaki, crab rangoon and boneless spare ribs and egg rolls you actually want to eat. We over-ordered, as well, knowing we would enjoy the leftovers. Jay will make a success of the new Orient Pearl, but he'll need to raise his prices soon to make a profit with the higher end foods he's ordering. Please eat in, talk to Jay, bring a recipe you want made and he'll make it happen. read more

(3) of us went to $15.95 lunch buffet at 1 pm Friday afternoon. Only one steam table in use. Other steam table held empty sushi boat. Ate (1) full plate, very good but when check came we were charged for sushi (none of us had any as there was none to be had and there was no signage stating sushi was an additional upcharge if we did), also charged for "tall" Mai Tai's which none of us asked for or ordered, waitress justified it by stating "people usually order another drink so she made it a "tall". Each of us paid approximately $36 with tip. When we asked the manager about the additional charges, he called the waitress over and she claimed she didn't add those charges (but they were clearly shown on the receipt). This was followed by a back and forth exchange in Chinese and a promise it would be "taken care of". Summary: Good food, but watch the charges. None of us wanted to spend $36 each on lunch and I don't like the subterfuge. read more

After having a bad experience there a few years ago I had not ordered from Orient Pearl since, but heard it was under new ownership recently so I thought I would give it another try. I placed my order through DoorDash and have to say I am glad I did and will definitely be doing so again. The food (Sweet and Sour Chicken and Chicken Fried Rice) was really good, the batter n the chicken was light and slightly crispy and the rice was cooked perfectly and loaded with chicken. The chunks of pineapple with the Sweet and Sour Chicken was also a nice touch! Can't wait to order again and will be trying other items off the menu too! The one thing that could be improved, and this is minor, is the plastic utensils seemed very cheap and did not hold up to the food well, thankfully there were extras in the bag! read more

So after hearing that there are new owners at the Orient Pearl my husband and I decided to go today. It was fabulous. Tina our server was awesome and very attentive. The food was actually the best Chinese we have had in a very long time. Everything was extremely fresh and the portions were huge. I hardly ever get any dish that has shrimp because usually the shrimp are small. We had a shrimp dish and the shrimp were huge. Even the shrimp in the house rice were larger than anywhere else we have had it. The crab Rangoon were stuffed perfectly with fresh ingredients. Everything was served hot and delicious. Since the new ownership this place has gone down hill. Althought he is trying, I think the focus is not on the correct needs of local customers. To list a few things: 1. The drinks are awful!! They need a real bar tender and not serve the pre-mix scorpian bowls. They taste like Hawiaan Punch. Literally - did not get even a slight buzz after drinking two of them! 2. The food was cold and appeared to be sitting around in the kitchen. Nothing tasted fresh. The ginger and hot mustard even tasked old!! It's too bad - it's a great location, but the time and energy needs to be put into the food first and then the atmosphere..... On a good note - the sushi is fairly good. read more
