Please Read I only leave reviews when something is really good or really bad. Asian Wok Express could have been the worst Chinese food that I've ever eaten. I ordered a dinner plate with honey chicken, beef teriyaki sticks, boneless spare ribs and pork fried rice. To start the pork fried rice was hard and truly felt as though it has been sitting out for 3 days. The plate came with two beef teriyaki sticks and they were by far the smallest beef sticks I've ever got from any Chinese restaurant. The spare ribs were edible however not a large portion by any means. The honey chicken... it could be just me but I've never had anything like this before. It tasted like sugar granules in an overbearing sweet sauce covering undercooked chicken fingers. Truly the worst item I've ever received from any Chinese place before and that is saying a lot. I also ordered some scallion pancakes and they were so hard to bite down it felt like i was going to break a tooth. Everything i ordered wasn't fresh at all! Do yourself a favor and stay far away from Asian Wok Express!!! If you're in the hampton seabrook area i would recommend wok the wok on hampton beach! read more

I've never had a problem with this place until today. Prices have gone up, and portion size has gone down, but these are the times we're living in. My problem is that they've started to automatically add a tip to the bill - 20% on mine. When I called to question it, they tried to tell me that I added the tip myself. All I did was enter my PIN to authorize the transaction. Nothing appeared on the screen asking me if I wanted to add a tip. This is a pretty shady business practice (especially for take-out), and I will never return to Asia Wok Express. read more

Wow! Check out the really high ceiling at this Chinese restaurant. It feels like I'm at a car showroom. Before heading over to the beach area, I stopped at Asian Wok Express for some lunch. The parking situation is a bit tight, limited parking along the adjacent wooden fence/concrete jersey barrier, which separates an apartment complex. The layout of the restaurant is long and narrow with the takeout counter to the left (no open kitchen) and the casual dining room to the right and the ceilings are really high, enough for a second story, with plenty of natural light coming in. Okay the food, they offer traditional Chinese dishes, Cantonese, Szechuan, & Mandarin dishes with Lunch Specials, All Day Specials, and Dinner Combination Specials. New Owners are mean...TERRINLE SERVICE! I live in Hampton and have been coming here for 19 years now. They had the best Chinese Food I've found since moving to Hampton (with the exception of Ocean Wok, but I hate having to go to the beach for quick take out). Ken was a gem, he knew all of his customers & what we like, he was sweet and kind. The new owners actually YELL AT YOU for asking questions, their little kids are running around screaming so you can't even eat your food there. We had a bad experience, but went back a month later and it happened again. I'm sad to say I now need a new place to eat! read more

I'm giving this place 4 stars for two reasons. #1 the food was DELICIOUS and #2 the customer service was impressive. I'm not sure if the cook/ order taker/ waiter lol was the owner but he was super friendly, professional and very attentive. The dining area could use a bit more TLC and updating. But hey the place was clean and if your out and about for lunch or quick dinner, then this place is it. I ordered the chicken in hot garlic sauce. WOW! Very tasty, the meat was tender, the veggies nice and crisp. My friend had the shrimp with lobster sauce and she too was raving about how tasty it was. Was a great place for years before the owner left and went back to HK two years ago, it's since gone downhill fast. The counter woman is rude both in person and over the phone, our orders are overcooked, with small portions. Recently we stopped there picked up our chicken finger combo, got it home and opened it to literally find an obvious "re-heated" order that had been so over cooked it was not edible at all, 27$ down the toilet both orders and to boot there was a metal paper staple in our pork fried rice. This review is long overdue -- it was the hot & sour soup that pushed me over the edge. I typically judge Chinese restaurants based on the quality of their eggrolls; if they pass the first test, I might venture so far as to test their hot & sour soup, and I can't believe I waited this long to do so. The broth was rich and thick (but not gummy or gelatinous), and layered with flavor -- that alone is enough to keep me coming back. But then they went on to add all the requisite ingredients that make it so delicious -- tofu, pork, wood ear, mushrooms, bamboo shoots. Truly, one of the best renditions I've ever had, and I've even made it myself. Here's what else they can do: 1. The BEST lo mein in the area -- no joke. Flat, linguine-style noodles, veggies, and your choice of meat (the roast pork is excellent, but I usually go for the house special, which has chicken, pork, beef, and a generous amount of shrimp). I could seriously eat this every day. I'm skeptical of this dish at other establishments, having been let down on multiple occasions by limp, greasy noodles and not much else. The Wok Express lo mein is a meal in and of itself. 2. The eggs rolls are darned good. Tightly rolled, golden brown -- a little greasy, but isn't that why we're here? You can order a single egg roll, but why do that to yourself? 3. Moo shu. I had it tonight for the first time, and it did not disappoint. The wrappers were a little thinner than I'm used to, but they held their own. They pack the moo shu (and lo mein) so tightly into the container that you can eat half, come back the next day, and it's filled to the top again. 4. Shrimp with garlic sauce. I typically don't venture into seafood at Chinese restaurants until they have proven themselves in other ways. I order the shrimp with garlic sauce about a year ago for the first time, and now it's a favorite. The shrimp are very large, plump, and perfectly cooked, served in a savory sauce with a little bit of a kick and lots of fresh veggies. 5. Dinner combinations. I'm not going to lie; I used to patronize another local restaurant for takeout, but whenever I was alone and craving Chinese, I'd either have to have it for lunch or get a single dish and some rice. This place has lunch specials, but they also have dinner combinations, which means you can get a few different things regardless of the time of day. It also make sharing easy -- for four people, you can easily get away with three combos, and have a virtual smorgasbord of choices. Not bad for under $30. I could go on, but you really should try it for yourself. If you live in Boston or New York or San Francisco, you might not agree with me, but on a snowy winter night, I can get there and back in 12 minutes, perfectly content to spend a night in. read more

Great food made by a hardworking family! We get food to go from there at least several times a month. The Pad Thai, General Tso's Tofu, Crab Rangoon, Chicken Fingers, etc. are all excellent. The luncheon specials are a great deal. The owner, quite quiet when you first meet him, has a great sense of humor once you get to know him. Best Chinese I've found on the Seacoast yet! Since moving here I've had such a hard time, but this place was great (American style) Chinese food. I came here with my husband a couple of weeks ago. We were looking for a Chinese restaurant that was open later in the evening, and being from Hampton, we found this little gem in no time. My husband and I are not meat eaters, so we like to get the General Tso's tofu at other places and figured we would try this one. let me tell you-the General Tso tofu is fresh, hot, and crispy. The sauce is excellent, being a little spicy and sweet. Very big portion sizes so we had enough to take home and leave for our daughter when she is home from college. She loved it as well. I've been to this place a few times. The wings, lomein, beef teryaki and crab rangoons are all pretty decent. However the egg foo young and the beef and broccoli are AWFUL. I ended up throwing the rest of it out it was so bad. The egg foo young is extremely bland...the gravy is watered down. The Beef in the beef with broccoli was slimy...and chewy...not really sure if it was beef or not but definitely not good. Their Lomein is some of the best I've ever had and if I go back there that's what I will get. read more

The food here is great! The staff is very helpful with recommendations and accommodating with special orders. My Wife doesn't like onions, but loves the rice noodles and lo mein. The gentleman who works the counter and answers the phones(day and night, weekdays and weekends!) is a very nice-and obviously hard working man. I definitely recommend this place! your lucky if someone puts meat in what you ordered that should have meat in it. sometimes, if you order a vegetable dish, the vegetables-especially baby corn-will be cold inside. disgusting crab rangoons which seem to have come from the freezer of the grocery store & disgusting egg rolls because they are not fried properly. hot mustard that has the consistency of water & i noticed another person mention the demand for cash & victimizing nature of this place. stay away. read more

After reading the reviews, we decided to give it a shot. It was a Sunday evening and they were relatively busy. We didn't realize it was essentially take-out, but we were still able to dine in. We ordered from the combinations menu, mostly, and then sat and waited for the food. It was about a 25 minute wait, but when the food arrived, it was clear that the wait was because the food was made to order. Everything had... FLAVOR. Not just salt, not just oil, but actually flavor. I had the Lemon Chicken, my wife had the Chicken Chow Mein. Both were excellent. The quantity of food was astounding! We spent $38, but had enough left overs from two apps, two meals, to get 7 total meals out of it! Definitely worth the trip, but it IS a take-out place. read more
