If I could give a zero I would. Let's start with the product. It's never fresh. I'm a local who used to come here all the time over the early years. It's gone way down - well below three star that I see here. Bummer if I offend others, yet that's just the reality if I had a black light to see the fish I'd bet I'd see massive bacteria. The ginger is from a can. That wasabi is light on the green food coloring and horseradish just not impressed tonight. The sauces were something that my children could make at home. Need a little more mixing need a little more thicker, etc. although that's a taste thing I'll let you sit with that as you may. The service, I asked for extra napkins and eel sauce to go with our leftover sushi, the waitress proceeded to say it was a dollar a napkin and a dollar for the eel sauce. I was stunned . Then it finally dawned on me -well it's a Saturday night -primetime eating hour and the place is dead empty not only the sushi/Chinese sitting down section but also the hibachi. I can't imagine how much the rent is here yet I wonder who is flipping the bill if they are noticing this? It's certainly not many of the patrons seems that they were just trying to nickel dime whatever patron they had left. We are hopeful this place will turn around yet once again it such a disappointment. Perhaps word has gotten out and another sushi place can take over we come here once or twice a year to see if they've gotten better and as of 2026 in August, they have not they have a long way to go. We started frequenting the Kume in Newmarket years ago and always liked their food and staff. After a move, the Epping Kume was more convenient. We have been going there for almost 2 years. The food is always delicious whether we eat there or take out. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. We have not tried the Hibachi side but it is on our wish list. It is nice that there is a door that closes off that section when busy as it can get a little noisy. read more

I was surprised that this place has only three stars, we had a stellar experience eating here. I show up on a Thursday night with some hangry kids and my mom. Kids loved the huge fish tank, it is a fun addition to the space. I really like the vibe of the place. Server is super friendly and remembers a full order for 6 people. Insert shocked face emoji here. Food comes out super fast, and the restaurant wasn't empty. It was kind of in the middle, but we got appetizers and the food came out right behind them. Super impressed by that. The servers help each other, they cleared the table quickly when we were done with something, and were generally attentive. Everything we ate was delicious. It's been a while since I've had Hibachi! I met a friend at this place, in the plaza right off Rt 101 (very convenient if you're in that area, maybe stopping at the liquor store?). There was a rather long wait for the "prepared in front of you" experience, so we opted to just sit in the regular dining room. Waitress was very prompt and friendly, taking our drink and food order. Not terribly attentive on beverage refills, but they were rather busy. The staff seems to be an "everyone helps out" style, as I think we saw half the staff dropping off food/drinks throughout our meal (not a complaint!). Food was quite tasty, and decent portion sizes. Such a different experience not having the chef cook right in front of you (for good or not!). Price is pretty reasonable. Overall, I'd definitely revisit when looking for hibachi. read more

Overall very solid "Japanese" restaurant. The food was pretty solid for a strip mall sushi restaurant. We got a few rolls and a Lobster Rangoon. The volcano roll was our favorite, but the Epping roll was also very good. Don't expect Nobu quality but the fish was very fresh. Service was good and the food came out quickly. Kume is the only restaurant in the Seacoast area that I feel can rival Shio. In fact I'll venture to say that Kume does a better job on their non sushi offerings such as noodles, fish and bento. Kume has an awesome lunch deal where you get a soup, salad, and three decent rolls for $12. You leave stuffed for less than the price of one signature roll at Shio. Kume also serves fancy entrees such as Chilean Sea Bass which is outstanding and also reasonably priced. I've found their noodles to be a bit greasy however, upon request, they did a nice job of cutting down on their oil. Even though you can hop over to Popovers for dessert, Kume has an extensive selection of cakes that are much better than you might expect. I love their comfy booths as well as the clean and modern bathroom. Beware that servers frequently bus their own tables and I'm concerned that their hands are not as clean as they should be. If you ask for food to go, request that they give you the box so you can prepare it yourself. Otherwise, the server will use her hands to pick up your sushi. In addition, the booth seating can be extremely hot on sunny days. They have an enormous sun exposure and insufficient shades. If you face the sun you may find yourself blinded and sweating. read more

The restaurant is better known for its rolls, which are good, with a variety that includes non-fish options. I was disappointed when I had the bento box. The miso soup was not hot, and the menu didn't note that the shumai contained shrimp (usually I get ones with pork or veggies; I'm allergic to shrimp). My son frequents a Hibachi restaurant in Salem, NH and it's his favorite place to go. He came up to our neck of the woods and we visited Kume. I'd never been to any type of restaurant like this. The food was great, and my son had his mouth open for anything the chef/cook would toss his way. We all had filet minion and it was cooked perfectly, and guess what, you don't have to use a knife, you get perfectly prepared bite sized pieces. I was glad that my broth had no mushrooms in it and the salad wasn't quite what I am used to, but the actual meal was a full plate, the server was attentive, and the chef was adequately entertaining. It is something everyone should experience. I've never gone to an establishment to eat and taken pictures; this was really worth it. Don't forget to tip the cook. read more

My family and I have been a long time customer to the Kume in Epping NH. When we came in for an early dinner (with a mostly empty restaurant) we were told we could not sit on the end for Hibachi. I have a 4 year old and to be in the middle would have been very difficult with the amount of times he goes to the restroom. When we explained this, the person who seated us said sorry that's how it has to be. On a busy night I understand, but with a mostly empty restaurant.. this is unacceptable. Jet me start off by saying I LOVE hibachi. Doesn't matter what city or what brand, I'm there. For food, Kume does a good job. The hibachi fried rice is awesome and they do a good job with the veggies. The meats were average - not terrible, but the quality of the filet and chicken was a step below other restaurants. The hibachi experience is a little too cheesy here too. Squirting sake into someone's mouth is cute the first time, but doing it to everyone at the table then going back for seconds while chanting "sake sake" is a little overboard. Keep it to the fire and volcano's... this isn't dinner mystery theater. The pace of each part of the meal also seems to take longer here than other hibachi places. So you're going to need some time to finish your meal here. I'll definitely go back... next time I'll eat in the non-hibachi restaurant part though. All the hibachi menu can be served there so you can get the flavor without the excess drama. read more

Not all hibachi restaurants are created equally. This place is consistently good, the hibachi setup is on one side of the restaurant and this review is strictly on this aspect of the business. They have three large hibachi pits, each with 2 cooking surfaces forming a "U" shape. Each table has approximately 18 chairs. Like all hibachi places you will be sitting with strangers if you don't come with a large amount of people. They also have a small room in the back that is private and has a hibachi table in it. I am not sure if that can be reserved for a party but I have never seen it in use. The hibachi chefs don't do a ton of tricks, all your standards (egg roll, volcano, fireman, and tossing food for you to catch) but not much originals. If you want to get drunk they will hose you down with Sake and tonight we saw one table go through TONS of the stuff. It was amazing to see how much they consumed. Again, it was all free!! All the food is cooked with tons of butter, ginger and sauce. I give the place 4 stars because I have found the scallops to be raw the last two (2) times even though I asked for them to be well done. Not great. Also, the salmon is very thin but still steep on price. Otherwise, very good place to have in the area and the staff is all very friendly and eager to refill drinks including non alcoholic. We visited newly-opened Kume, the Japanese Hibachi grill on a busy Sunday evening. The simple, comfortable layout was very welcoming. We started off with a "Clear Soup", A delicious soup of chicken broth, mushrooms, and shallots, which was the predominant flavor. Promptly, we received a Garden Salad. A nice transition from the warm soup to this refreshing dish was well thought out. The sweet, ginger dressing was superb. Our chef, a friendly, fun loving individual introduced himself, and within seconds began the show. First with a fireball, then the catching of an egg in his hat, the tossing of rice for us to catch in our mouths, and intermittent "Sake" competitions. (He loved sake). Throughout the evening our chef mixed his entertaining routine with preparation of incredible food. The steak was incredibly tender and cooked to perfection, and the shrimp was delicious. The pork-fried rice is a must, nice and crunchy as it comes straight off the hibachi grill top. Our food was served with a side dish featuring two sauces- a sweet ginger sauce and mild honey mustard. Both were perfect. At the end of the meal, our chef scrapped the hibachi, watered it down, and meticulously scrubbed every square inch of it. That should be a pretty good indicator for the cleanliness of the place. A bit pricy, but absolutely worth it! Please people, tip your chef! We were the only ones!
