The hummus here is so good, I stop by Oren's every time I'm in the area. I don't know what makes it so much better but give it a shot and you'll see why I love it so much more than any other hummus I've had. The pita is also amazing and when you combine the pita with hummus it tastes even better. I like the original hummus the best, it's the cleanest tasting and you really get a sense of the quality without other ingredients. The chicken skewer is also good if you want just a small amount of meat. Well seasoned and cooked so it's juicy and tender, loved it. I had to pick up lunch for clients and opted for a dish myself. I don't typically go for Mediterranean food but it's slowly growing on me. I got the pita chicken sandwich. It was tasty! I liked that they don't skimp on anything! The chicken was tender, plenty of veggies (wish there was a little more or that they were evenly distributed) and plenty of hummus (as it should be) esp. at the bottom. It got a little messy toward the end because of that hehe. I even scraped some hummus off because it was too much, but hey you get your money's worth! Service was quick! Visited on a Thursday evening while visiting town for an appointment. My friend and I were seated immediately and our drink order was taken. Our server was Sophia, and she was wonderful. She answered our questions about the menu, she was attentive and friendly. We shared a potato filled Bourekas, essentially a phyllo wrapped serving of mashed potatoes, delicious! I had the vegetable skewer, basmati rice, and small hummus, which I had with two whole wheat pitas. The hummus is thick, smooth, and creamy. I asked for shakshouka with well done eggs as I'm pregnant. The eggs came out runny. I asked for it to be cooked well done which the waiter took back. Ordered for pick-up which I might recommend bc I air-fried the fries so that they were crispy and toasted the pita. The hummus was super creamy and smooth. It was thick with tahini but could've used more salt. The plant-based lamb was meaty & fragrant and the falafels were crispy & tasty. However, both were very pricey ($15 for 3 plant-based lamb pieces and $5.25 for 5 falafels). Though I got half n half falafels, I couldn't taste the difference between the green herb and yellow garlic. Spreading the hummus and adding bits of the falafel, lamb, and fries (had to add salt to the fries as well) to the pita made a great combo! The bread wasn't tomo dry. It was a very good texture of fluff, moist, and a crisp outer layer. The beef and the kebab were dry, but mixed in with the veggies which balanced it out. I really enjoyed the combination. I also got a Side of fries : 5/5. They were super good and large. The inside was mushy and the outer was very crispy. My favorite things to get out are the skewer plates which gives you two sides and dips as well. Ironically I don't find the hummus here amazing, so tend not to order it. While there are meat options here, you definitely do not need that kind of protein to have a fantastic meal. Located towards one end of Castro St, Oren's gets plenty of foot traffic and is situated in a prime location for people watching. I sat outside and enjoyed the busy street sounds while enjoying my meal. Before you begin, they provide a complimentary house slaw to munch on. This salad was fantastic and I wish I had eaten more of it during my visit. I ordered their Cauliflower hummus ($12) as my entree and was very impressed. The hummus was certain great quality and the blend of cauliflower made it quite a filling paste to work through. Loved their whole wheat pita that's baked fresh each day for your hummus. It was incredibly soft and made for the perfect compliment to your vegetarian meal. Each plate comes with two slices but I almost wish we had ordered more. Oren's is a solid place to get tasty hummus, though in my opinion the couple times I've been here I feel like it is on the pricey side. We ordered the beef hummus ($14) and sampler plate ($14.50). Each came with 2 pitas so we had 4 total. I thought the sampler plate was definitely overpriced -- you get 6 small servings of some dips/sides, including beets, carrots, a thick yogurt with olive oil, and 3 eggplant dishes. Everything tasted good, but nothing amazing. Beef hummus was tasty since the beef is really well spiced and smoky, and combined with the creamy, rich hummus it's really well balanced and addicting. The pita here is also super soft and bready which makes it great for sopping up hummus and dips. However there's not that much meat, same with the lamb hummus which is $17, so it really doesn't feel like a meal, although you're definitely paying an entree price. An average experience. This is my second time coming here (first time Palo Alto). My daughter and I shared sides of hummus and falafels ordered 4 boreks (2 mushroom, 1 cheese, 1 potato). The boreks were okay - they seemed doughy. The proportion of uncooked doughy inside was high compared to the flaky exterior. The potato was good and is definitely the best of the three boreks. The falafels were hot and crispy, though nothing particularly special taste wise. I did not care for the hummus - it was overpoweringly tahini. Management was nice and took the hummus off the bill when we shared that we didn't care for it. They also solicited feedback so they could share with the chef. We went to the restaurant today evening during 6.30 pm for dinner. From the time we entered there was a lack of warmth at the place, which we didn't pay much heed to because we understand Saturday dinner time is stressful or they might be having a bad day which was totally understandable. We wrote out names down and followed up after 20 mins to know if they had a table ready outside (due to COVID weather prefer eating outside rather than indoor eating) The person who was writing the name down showed us to a dingy dark table with 0 lighting on a side which wasn't set up and clearly wasn't being used or cleaned for a long time. They just sent people to place the fork and spoon and left. when we went to sit, We saw the chair were dirty... probably from bird poo and which confirmed to us ever more they don't really use those. We went to report the incident up front and we saw one of the 4 seater tables upfront just got empty which was well lit and being cleaned The person in charge, who sat us, heard our complaint and he got a rag to wipe the chair lightly and when we pointed out how dark it was, he refused to shift us to the empty table upfront saying he told someone he would be saving that table for them. After some back and forth when we mentioned that we have been waiting for a long time to have food in the queue with them the person in charge said "No I cannot give you that table because you have accepted this one already and I have promised someone else that I would be seating them there. I don't understand the problem... If you want to have food with us this is the table available else we are very busy right now" This is the first time ever in CALIFORNIA or USA, I have faced such discriminatory preferential treatment being given and I don't like to use this word at all... I have in the past never been told take this else we are busy and we don't need you as a customer.... From the beginning I was getting a weird vibe but this just confirmed it further that I should have listened to that rather than trying to give benefit of the doubt... I have heard so many good things about Oren's hummus, I was really looking forward to dining there but unfortunately following this incident it will be a while till we ever go back there. I don't know what the reason could be that we faced this... I don't know whether something upsetting happened or they were stretched thin so much that they were being disrespectful to customers but I hope no other customer faces this experience and the owner takes steps to see employees are not upset and can give a palatable service to all :) read more

Huge portions but lovely outdoor seating for those who'd like to bring their furry friend along. The ladies here were so, so sweet and brought out a bowl of water for my pup. My brother and his family tend to frequent the Palo Alto location but we wanted to dine outside with their sweet pup so we wandered over to Mountain View which has more outdoor seating. Food- Chicken Pita ($13.5): Solid pita, but I just like it better at dish dash. I know the cultures are totally (kinda) different, but its just a matter of preference I guess. The pita had hummus in it, which is nice, but I didn't love the chicken. I would have liked it to have a nice char or grilled taste, but it just tasted like white meat. Shakshuka ($14 + 4.05 for turkey sausage): Nice breakfast dish. It easily lasted me two meals. Enjoyed the tomato. I wish I knew to take the egg out or eat it sooner cause by the time I got to it, it was overcooked. It would have been nice if it was runny. While I enjoyed the dish, its not something I feel I have to get again. Beef Kebab Rice Bowl ($17ish): This was soooooo good. The rice is like some kind of tomato rice. Lots of flavor, and it doesnt even compare to the beef kebabs themselves. The meat had an insane amount of flavor. This weekend we celebrated in Mountain View. We've been to the Oren's Hummus in Palo Alto several times over the years, but hadn't tried the one in Mountain View. It did not disappoint! My dish had the mushrooms and they were plump and tasty. The hubby's had the lamb and he said it was just as good as he remembered.
