The food is generally very good - I always am happy to eat Orens takeout. I dined in for the first time in years last week (weekday, ~12:30pm) and it was less than satisfactory. The main complaint was that the lunch took nearly 1.5 hrs. I think they are understaffed while trying to balance dine-in and takeout. Hopefully it's just growing pains while in-person lunch is returning, but it was so slow that I will not be returning in person for a long time even though I work in downtown MTV. Waiting for a seat was not that long, but they asked us to wait even though there were empty tables because the kitchen needed to catch up. And ordering and getting food took ages. The staff was really hustling, so I think they are very understaffed. They were also out of labneh already by lunchtime. read more

COVID review Outdoor seating is beautifully setup next to a bed of fragrant flowers. Service is friendly and timely. With gloves and masks. The hummus is freshly made everyday. The waitress told us that if they have left over food every night they'll donate. The fresh hummus has a good taste of fresh beans and not much of the lemon-y taste compared to supermarket bought ones. The bowl has good flavorful rice in turmeric tomato simmer and 4 beef sausages, tasty dish. The kids menu also earns them an extra star. The menu is not the plain boring cheese pizza, butter noodle kind of nutrition imbalanced meal. The kid's sandwich for example has meat and vegetables. Nothing to complain about. The menu has so many things that I want to try, we'll be back. read more

We love the healthy and tasty hummus along with the soft warm pita at Oren's! The chicken skewers were also so well marinated and seasoned. Beef and falafel were pretty good too. Overall we were satisfied with the food we ordered although it was a bit pricey. They also added a 3% extra living wage in our bill. Service was quite terrible though. The waiter, a middle aged man, was rude. We asked for 2 boxes to pack our leftovers and he just threw the boxes into our pita basket/ dirty plates. And he also missed out one of our orders. Definitely not worth our 15% tip and the extra 3% charged, but oh well, maybe he just had an off day. read more

The hummus here is so good, I stop by Oren's every time I'm in the area. I don't know what makes it so much better but give it a shot and you'll see why I love it so much more than any other hummus I've had. The pita is also amazing and when you combine the pita with hummus it tastes even better. I like the original hummus the best, it's the cleanest tasting and you really get a sense of the quality without other ingredients. The chicken skewer is also good if you want just a small amount of meat. Well seasoned and cooked so it's juicy and tender, loved it. It's located on Castro St. in Mountain View with plenty of other cute restaurants and shops nearby. read more

i wasn't the biggest fan the first time i came here, but then i came with some coworkers who REALLY like this place and come here every time during on-sites - i tried what they liked (chicken schnitzel pita) and really liked it. we also ordered sweet potato fries for the table and i enjoyed that as well. i might've just not ordered the right dish the first time around -- i got the oren's fattoush salad and shared some of the classic hummus. i've only ever come for lunch on fridays and there's never been a wait, even with a party of 8. i think it's a popular spot for corporate meals in general - my coworkers said that there's something for everyone (dietary restrictions!). read more

I ordered via GH delivery with my office. I got the chicken skewer plate. For $24 you get four pieces of chicken. Now the chicken is delicious, tender, and perfectly seasoned, but four pieces is pretty slim pickings. I got hummus and cauliflower sides. Given the restaurant name, I expected the hummus would be outstanding, but it was only good: great creamy texture, but lacked flavor beyond the garbanzo beans and tahini. The cauliflower was also good, not worth the extra money though. If I order from here again I will just get the chicken skewer by itself and skip the sides, because their chicken is great. read more

The Mountain View Oren's Hummus location is my favorite: it's peaceful, the music isn't blaring so loudly I can't hear my partner speak, the food is served quickly without any mess ups, the environment is clean. And of course, the hummus is rich and delicious with that bit of tang from the tahini, and the pita is the fluffiest, softest warm pita I've had. I got the classic hummus (asked for extra paprika too) because I like to enjoy hummus in its unadulterated state, and my partner got the beef hummus (also his go-to when we visit). By some miracle, we finished everything. I am still in a food coma as I type. read more

I have always enjoyed food from Oren's Hummus and this time was no different. Was meeting up with a friend and wanted some good Mediterranean food - so this was the place to go! Once here I ended up ordering the new Chicken Hummus bowl. This came with hummus, tahini and chicken, as well as two fresh pieces of pita bread. The pita was amazing - so soft and perfectly warm. Came in with a group of 2 at 11:30 am on Saturday. Parking as always is it bit tough to find. It is located in downtown. We got seated very quickly. The noise level was average. There wasn't that many people. Additionally our server came to us very quickly which for some may be a good thing. Our food came very quickly about 5-7 min. I ordered the Beef kebab pita: 5/5. The bread wasn't tomo dry. It was a very good texture of fluff, moist, and a crisp outer layer. The beef and the kebab were dry, but mixed in with the veggies which balanced it out. I really enjoyed the combination. I also got a Side of fries : 5/5. They were super good and large. The inside was mushy and the outer was very crispy. You can tell the way they made these fries didn't use a lot of oil. Our server was really nice. Overall, Oren's hummus shop is a great place. I would come back here next time. I had to pick up lunch for clients and opted for a dish myself. I don't typically go for Mediterranean food but it's slowly growing on me. I got the pita chicken sandwich. It was tasty! I liked that they don't skimp on anything! The chicken was tender, plenty of veggies (wish there was a little more or that they were evenly distributed) and plenty of hummus (as it should be) esp. at the bottom. It got a little messy toward the end because of that hehe. I even scraped some hummus off because it was too much, but hey you get your money's worth! Service was quick! It barely took 10 minutes to have the 8 orders ready from the time that it was placed. Note - there is parking if you veer to the left of the restaurant. I missed it the first time and the right turn only sign sent me to the busy main road. read more

I got the pita beef sandwich and it was pretty good! the pita bread was super crispy on the outside and had a slightly chewy texture. I loved how much beef and lamb i got! First time trying Oren's and it was delicious. Got their classic hummus, whole wheat pita, fries, plant-based lamb, and falafels. Ordered for pick-up which I might recommend bc I air-fried the fries so that they were crispy and toasted the pita. The hummus was super creamy and smooth. It was thick with tahini but could've used more salt. The plant-based lamb was meaty & fragrant and the falafels were crispy & tasty. However, both were very pricey ($15 for 3 plant-based lamb pieces and $5.25 for 5 falafels). Though I got half n half falafels, I couldn't taste the difference between the green herb and yellow garlic. Spreading the hummus and adding bits of the falafel, lamb, and fries (had to add salt to the fries as well) to the pita made a great combo! I had cucumbers so I added that and it was an enjoyable dinner. All of this was about ~$39 for 3-4 meals. read more

The service was good, as was the ambiance. And the sides/salads were up to par. BUT for a $26 meal, the chicken was burnt, were small pieces, and not what I remember from the past. I had no idea that you could have an entire restaurant dedicated to the art of hummus and be able to provide an exceptionally delicious and healthy meal. Meat eaters need not worry. While there are meat options here, you definitely do not need that kind of protein to have a fantastic meal. Located towards one end of Castro St, Oren's gets plenty of foot traffic and is situated in a prime location for people watching. I sat outside and enjoyed the busy street sounds while enjoying my meal. Before you begin, they provide a complimentary house slaw to munch on. This salad was fantastic and I wish I had eaten more of it during my visit. I ordered their Cauliflower hummus ($12) as my entree and was very impressed. The hummus was certain great quality and the blend of cauliflower made it quite a filling paste to work through. Loved their whole wheat pita that's baked fresh each day for your hummus. It was incredibly soft and made for the perfect compliment to your vegetarian meal. Each plate comes with two slices but I almost wish we had ordered more. Despite the higher prices, I'm very happy with my experience at Oren's and would come back to try some of their other options. read more

Visited on a Thursday evening while visiting town for an appointment. My friend and I were seated immediately and our drink order was taken. Our server was Sophia, and she was wonderful. She answered our questions about the menu, she was attentive and friendly. We shared a potato filled Bourekas, essentially a phyllo wrapped serving of mashed potatoes, delicious! I had the vegetable skewer, basmati rice, and small hummus, which I had with two whole wheat pitas. The hummus is thick, smooth, and creamy. The rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned, as were the vegetables. We had a small complimentary dish of cabbage slaw, which was fresh and flavorful. Oren's is a solid place to get tasty hummus, though in my opinion the couple times I've been here I feel like it is on the pricey side. We ordered the beef hummus ($14) and sampler plate ($14.50). Each came with 2 pitas so we had 4 total. I thought the sampler plate was definitely overpriced -- you get 6 small servings of some dips/sides, including beets, carrots, a thick yogurt with olive oil, and 3 eggplant dishes. Everything tasted good, but nothing amazing. Beef hummus was tasty since the beef is really well spiced and smoky, and combined with the creamy, rich hummus it's really well balanced and addicting. The pita here is also super soft and bready which makes it great for sopping up hummus and dips. However there's not that much meat, same with the lamb hummus which is $17, so it really doesn't feel like a meal, although you're definitely paying an entree price. Complimentary cabbage slaw is tasty and refreshing, especially with some of the chili sauce. read more

Oren's hummus is a classic all over the Bay Area. The Mountain View location has a lot of outdoor seating right on Castro which is nice. My favorite things to get out are the skewer plates which gives you two sides and dips as well. Ironically I don't find the hummus here amazing, so tend not to order it. Their chunky eggplant and Babaganoush are amazing though. They have a nice happy hour as well where they have wine by the glass for 6 dollars, and beer for, with cheap apps as well. read more

I ordered their chicken rice bowl with pita bread and hummus. Everything was great. Hefty portion size, one bowl could definitely cover 2 meals. Fresh ingredients and flavor. An average experience. This is my second time coming here (first time Palo Alto). My daughter and I shared sides of hummus and falafels ordered 4 boreks (2 mushroom, 1 cheese, 1 potato). The boreks were okay - they seemed doughy. The proportion of uncooked doughy inside was high compared to the flaky exterior. The potato was good and is definitely the best of the three boreks. The falafels were hot and crispy, though nothing particularly special taste wise. I did not care for the hummus - it was overpoweringly tahini. Management was nice and took the hummus off the bill when we shared that we didn't care for it. They also solicited feedback so they could share with the chef. Service was slow and not the friendliest despite the late lunch hour and low-medium busy-ness. read more

I've been to this location quite a few times on Castro and would say this is a solid place for lunch. I almost always order the hummus chicken bowl which comes with two slices of pita. There's also a cabbage dish to split for the table that was a nice break of veggies. My only wish is that this dish came with some greens or a yogurt to go with the hummus and pita. We sat outside on the closed off street. The downside of doing lunch on Castro is the occasional train or light rail that just happens to come while you are chatting. We went to the restaurant today evening during 6.30 pm for dinner. From the time we entered there was a lack of warmth at the place, which we didn't pay much heed to because we understand Saturday dinner time is stressful or they might be having a bad day which was totally understandable. We wrote out names down and followed up after 20 mins to know if they had a table ready outside (due to COVID weather prefer eating outside rather than indoor eating) The person who was writing the name down showed us to a dingy dark table with 0 lighting on a side which wasn't set up and clearly wasn't being used or cleaned for a long time. They just sent people to place the fork and spoon and left. when we went to sit, We saw the chair were dirty... probably from bird poo and which confirmed to us ever more they don't really use those. We went to report the incident up front and we saw one of the 4 seater tables upfront just got empty which was well lit and being cleaned The person in charge, who sat us, heard our complaint and he got a rag to wipe the chair lightly and when we pointed out how dark it was, he refused to shift us to the empty table upfront saying he told someone he would be saving that table for them. After some back and forth when we mentioned that we have been waiting for a long time to have food in the queue with them the person in charge said "No I cannot give you that table because you have accepted this one already and I have promised someone else that I would be seating them there. I don't understand the problem... If you want to have food with us this is the table available else we are very busy right now" This is the first time ever in CALIFORNIA or USA, I have faced such discriminatory preferential treatment being given and I don't like to use this word at all... I have in the past never been told take this else we are busy and we don't need you as a customer.... From the beginning I was getting a weird vibe but this just confirmed it further that I should have listened to that rather than trying to give benefit of the doubt... I have heard so many good things about Oren's hummus, I was really looking forward to dining there but unfortunately following this incident it will be a while till we ever go back there. I don't know what the reason could be that we faced this... I don't know whether something upsetting happened or they were stretched thin so much that they were being disrespectful to customers but I hope no other customer faces this experience and the owner takes steps to see employees are not upset and can give a palatable service to all :) read more

This is one of the restaurants I really look forward to visiting when I come to see family in the Bay Area. The one mistake that I make is I should share the hummus bowl since I always manage to only get halfway through it before surrendering it for more. Service is great and we enjoyed dining al fresco. My brother and his family tend to frequent the Palo Alto location but we wanted to dine outside with their sweet pup so we wandered over to Mountain View which has more outdoor seating. Ironically we had to wait for a table outside while inside had plenty of seating available on a Sunday evening. 3.5 Didnt love everything. While the food is overall good, I do feel that items here are slightly overpriced. However, I generally felt dishes were of good quality. Food- Chicken Pita ($13.5): Solid pita, but I just like it better at dish dash. I know the cultures are totally (kinda) different, but its just a matter of preference I guess. The pita had hummus in it, which is nice, but I didn't love the chicken. I would have liked it to have a nice char or grilled taste, but it just tasted like white meat. Shakshuka ($14 + 4.05 for turkey sausage): Nice breakfast dish. It easily lasted me two meals. Enjoyed the tomato. I wish I knew to take the egg out or eat it sooner cause by the time I got to it, it was overcooked. It would have been nice if it was runny. While I enjoyed the dish, its not something I feel I have to get again. Beef Kebab Rice Bowl ($17ish): This was soooooo good. The rice is like some kind of tomato rice. Lots of flavor, and it doesnt even compare to the beef kebabs themselves. The meat had an insane amount of flavor. I would definitely recommend this dish if you come here tho you prob want to get a hummus dish as well for the namesake. My only gripe is for the price, I would have wanted more kebabs. You only get like 5. Overall, I wasnt wowed by most items, but I did enjoy generally enjoy the dishes I did have. I still want to try the Green Shakshuka and maybe a lamb or beef hummus so Ill be back. read more

IMHO First time here at the recommendation of a friend, with whom we were lunching with! We were happy to hear her menu suggestions and we ended up sharing family style with the chicken schnitzel entree ($17.95), breaded & fried chicken, mashed sweet potatoes, and green beans, Sabich ($10.95), fried eggplant, potato, hard boiled egg, amba sauce, cucumber, tomato, herbs, tahini sauce, and a side of 5 falafel. Almost immediately upon being seated, we were served complimentary small bowls of coleslaw...or was it pickled cabbage? Corina was our friendly server. Since our party of three opted to share everything, we asked Corina if our Sabich could come out deconstructed so we could build our own mini pitas. They were happy to comply! Food was delicious; pitas warm and fresh, hummus silky creamy, schniztel crispy and moist. The falafels were my favorite! Staff was bustling always on the move. Our empty plates & dishes were swiftly removed, water glasses quickly refilled. This place is popular. As we left, all the outside alfresco tables were full and there was a group of waiting patrons ready for their turn! I'm sure I'll be back! read more

Costly? Yes. Worth it and keeps me coming back? Hell yes. Wonderful service, eye-rollingly good food. I recommend the sabbach with the most fantastic sauce combinations I've ever had, served cold and totally satisfying. The ambiance is okay. It's clean and stylish for the most part but the tables are a bit cramped, probably because it's so popular they try to accommodate more people and I could do without the huge jars of purple liquid with small eggplants balanced of color inside, making them look like chicken eggs in purple water at first glance. It has tables rather than booths and I always eat outside or get it to go. read more

Hubby and I have been doing Picnic Sundays around the Bay. We pick a city, drive over, try a new resto, cop a squat at a park, and take the puppy for a walk. This weekend we celebrated in Mountain View. We've been to the Oren's Hummus in Palo Alto several times over the years, but hadn't tried the one in Mountain View. It did not disappoint! We ordered the mushroom hummus, lamb hummus, and falafel balls on the side. Delicious! Still had that creamy, flavorful hummus Oren's is known for. My dish had the mushrooms and they were plump and tasty. The hubby's had the lamb and he said it was just as good as he remembered. The falafels were so satisfying with that herbaceous, crispy crunch. They also gave us all the fixings with several pitas, 3 different sauces, and their pickled veges. We'll be back for sure!Mushroom Hummus read more

Update: Had multiple bad experiences the last few times at both locations in the area, from simply poor to downright unacceptable (the latest at the Palo Alto location, where you're welcome to read the full horror story review) Had it happened one time I'd call it a fluke but there were multiple issues for all of our latest visits and only got worse. They never bothered to make it right or properly apologize for their lack of adequate service. The food is not good enough to allow me to overlook their many shortcomings. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone. It's not worth the potential headache. read more
