A phenomenal dinner experience with plenty of good food. I visited on a Sunday evening, and it wasn't super busy. The ambiance of the restaurant was incredible: warm, inviting, and romantic. The service was also top-notch: efficient and speedy. We tried the tasting menu, and I'm so glad we did. Every single dish we tried was delicious, and we were able to try a whole range of dishes. The amount of food we got made the price worth it. By the time we were done with the cold and hot appetizers, we were already stuffed. They then brought out the entrees, which were so delicious we kept eating. And the desserts were the perfect finish to an already amazing meal. Special highlights were the manti with garlic yogurt, artichoke with poached shrimp, lamb chops with dill-potato wedges, and the baklava. We were there to celebrate my niece's wedding anniversary. I could not eat the kofte I ordered, it was 50% cumin, inedible. I swapped it with my niece. The kebap I exchanged was half and half meat and burned bread cubes with yogurt. nothing else. The $65 a plate "lokum" was a couple of thin slice of meat with a scoop of mashed potato. The server did not like my $50 tip, stating 20% minimum gratuity, which came to be $90. After that insult and spending $590, the only thing we enjoyed was the pide. Very beautiful restaurant in Sunnyvale. I came in a party of 6, and I was also excited to visit a Middle Eastern restaurant. The complimentary bread was very addicting. One of my friends and I totally devoured it. For the main course, I got one of the kebabs. I felt it was overpriced for what it was worth. Kunefe for dessert was excellent! After reading the high marks of Meyhouse, I thought it'd be difficult for this restaurant to meet my expectations. It did not. It WELL EXCEEDED them! Meyhouse had it all: the gorgeous establishment, the levels of flavors, and the utmost fine-dining experience you rarely find nowadays. What I'm talking about is this.... Aside from the obvious stuff like your server being courteous and responsive with ordering and delivering dishes, our Meyhouse server made sure to *time* our courses to our eating pace so plates didn't arrive too quickly. He also watched our wine glasses like a hawk, but from afar and respectfully, so he could glide over to refill our glasses without interrupting our conversation. Some times I didn't even know he came over; I'd just notice my glass was refilled! Same with finishing a dish or needing water or looking up... anything! Also, between courses, someone not only removed our plates and utensils (including the ones lying on the table, which were unused), but also they came by to clean off the table of crumbs before bringing new plates and utensils, and then the next course. (They did this twice, and our jaws hit the ground twice too.) Because we were there for a special occasion, our dinner lasted 3 hours and there were times we had paused eating because we were just talking, so staff sometimes came by to see if we needed our plates cleared. If we hesitated to answer because we weren't sure if we still wanted to eat some more, they smiled and slowly backed away almost as if embarrassed for getting it wrong. They were adorably sweet. We appreciated their proactiveness and attentiveness! We ordered 2 desserts to share, and there was a mix up where someone brought them out too soon -- without the candle for the birthday boy. I was disappointed by this because I asked our server to please be sure to include a candle, but I looked over and saw that he did a "double take" at our table, hustled to the kitchen, and swiftly returned with a lit candle on a complimentary scoop of ice cream. He even sang! So even though there wasn't the expected candle on our dessert, he did some quick thinking and fixed the error with an additional dessert -- and song! It was brilliant. Honestly, I'd sing Meyhouse's praises over and and again. They did everything right! **Random Things to Note** - Reserve time for parking. There's a lot across the street, but on weekend, it can be tough and take some time, so plan for that if you have reservations. - Corkage fee is a steep $35, so be prepared if you bring your own bottle! - If you order dessert, and you should also order Turkish tea. As a tea connoisseur, I think it compliments the desserts so well. (It's the temperature, the flavor, and yes, the cute little cup and saucers!) - I loved every dish (and bite) I had, but if I could only choose 1 dish, I would choose the eggplant with yogurt appetizer. Came in hungry to celebrate a friend's birthday, left sooooo full, mostly because I could not stop myself from demolishing 4-5 massive pieces of their soft, airy bread (yes, they refilled without us even asking!). Honestly, zero regrets. While the bread kept us satisfied, mains did take a little longer to come out after the apps, but the food made up for it. Funny enough, the two dishes I expected to like the least ended up being my favorites: the eggplant dip and the chicken skewer. The chicken was insanely juicy with a slight char that hit perfectly, and the eggplant dip was so creamy from the yogurt with perfectly roasted eggplant. I would go back just for those. The octopus was super soft and basically melted in your mouth, though I did wish it had a bit more of that classic bounce. The tenderloin leaned a little too rare for my preference, but it was still very juicy and not overly gamey, which I appreciated. And of course, we had to get dessert. We ordered a baklava, which was definitely on the sweeter side. It satisfied my sweet tooth, though I've had flakier, more delicate versions elsewhere. We had a few friends visiting from the East Bay and 1 from the high desert in SoCal, and the GF thought bringing them to Meyhouse in Murphy Square would leave them with happy thoughts as this is their 1st foray into Turkish cuisine. Of course, the meal was exceptional. I ordered the muhammara, which I often do as it is 1 of my favorites - rich, balanced, and flavorful. Everyone likes dumplings so I had to have them. The bread basket with the dipping oils and spread is a must too. The eggplant dish, Perzola (lamb chops -must order), Lokum, the seabass, Adana and a platter of the vegetarian eggplant and a few appetizers were what I ordered. Well, I stand to be corrected. I was invited for a nice Birthday lunch by a former colleague and friend. My first inclination upon seeing it was Turkish was really not fair. Well, I was wrong in coming to Meyhouse!! We had an outstanding waiter by the name of Burak. He explained everything very well and picked upon my apprehension. They gave us plenty of time to make up our minds and served us this wonderful made bread with sesame seeds on top...wonderful. I decided on the Ege Salatasi withChunky tomatoes, peppers, onions, cucumbers, garlic-oregano croutons, white cheese, capers and south Aegean olives. Imagine a Greek salad taken to another level. Why I liked this so was the combination except for the Feta was so much like a Spanish salad that I have had growing up as a kid . The dressing on it was perfect. I loved this. My friend had the Mercimekli Karniyarik Oven roasted half eggplant stuffed with green lentil, dried mint, tomato sauce and brown butter served with garlic-yogurt. What did I love about this place, the ambiance, our waiter's kindness and patience. The great food, the yogurt that was mixed with tons of garlic. like I like it) the music in the background that even though was Turkish sounded so much like Spanish flamenco. This is a WINNER for me. We were seated in the back booths, which were very comfortable and I appreciated that the tables had a good amount of space between them, at least where we were. We ordered manti, kopoglu (I think), lamb chops, branzino and beef skewer. Everything tasted great, but our favorites were the manti and the branzino. I will say this place is on the pricier side, but the ambiance and service was pretty decent. The place was cozy and I really appreciated that they let us stay til 10:30 to chitchat as it was for a friends birthday party even though they had closed earlier. Now for food, we got to try a variety of things that I enjoyed: *FREE BREAD - this was absolutely delicious and you could tell this was made fresh. Came back exactly 2 weeks later for a birthday dinner, and though the food was still great, our server really ruined the dining experience. To me, the service and food go hand in hand and was very dissatisfied with her being rude, forgetful, and not attentive. We were the first diners as it was an early dinner and we ordered 4 appetizers to start along with two glasses of wine and a soda. First red flag was when she confirmed it was 3 appetizers, not 4. The lovely bread basket came out and the kopoglu was the star of course. 5, 10, 15 minutes pass and our drinks are no where to be found. Our server never came to check in as others brought the appetizers, so I waved down an employee and asked about our 2 glasses of wine. Again, there were maybe 1-2 other tables at this point and did not see the bartender making any drinks. He brings our two glasses of wine and we also reminded him about the soda. There's not a whole lot of Turkish restaurants in the South Bay, so we were eager to try out Meyhouse. First off the interior is really nice and the wait staff pretty helpful. As for the food we tried, grilled octopus and Denix Kokorec (sautéed shrimp and octopus) both were pretty good appetizers, just wish the portion size were a tad bigger. For our main's, we had Grilled tenderloin, ground beef patties, lamb kebab and spicy beef kebab. All were very good, I especially enjoyed my grilled tenderloin as it was very flavorful and tender. We have been inspired to hunt down Turkish food after our trip to Turkiye. We found Meyhouse and have visited both the Palo Alto and Sunnyvale locations. The Palo Alto has a speak easy with regular jazz performances. While the Sunnyvale jazz schedule is for special occasions. I understand there will be a third location soon. Both times, we had the omakase for two. Both times, we had the seafood and meat selection. Definitely a ton of delicious food. I am fond of the appetizers, the eggplant and yogurt are divined, the bread is made fresh daily. The lamb bbq is well seasoned and bbq. The branzino is just as wonderful as we had in Europe. When we are in the Bay Area, we make an effort to stomp at either locations. It wonderful staff and food and charming atmosphere highlights the Turkish culture. This might be my new favorite spot on Murphy Street! The food was fantastic, the dining experience was nice (not fine dining but more upscale than the rest of the area) and the price point was pretty reasonable. My boyfriend and I ordered the vegetarian hummus and Turkmen Mantisi for appetizers, and shared the Alinazik (tenderloin skewer) and Cemenli Tavuk (marinated chicken). The hummus was thick and not oily, which I liked, and I enjoyed the brown butter / pine nut combination here. The tenderloin was cooked a perfect medium rare and the chicken was so tender and moist! I thought all the dishes had unique flavor profiles and good balances of meaty + salty + tangy from the yogurt-based sauces. We also ordered the pistachio baklava for dessert; baklava has always been one of my favorite sweet treats, but this one was amazing! I liked the balance of the salty / nutty pistachio with the sweet honey, and I thought this baklava had a good proportion of crispy / flaky on top with dense and oily on the bottom. The service was good too! They scraped the table and replaced our dishes between courses (which was nice given that all the plates had sauces and different flavors). Also, we decided to order a second entree after finishing the first that we shared, and they had it out within less than 10 minutes. After finding street parking, we made our way to the restaurant. It was quite packed and the seats are close together. The wait staff bumped into the empty chairs at our table twice. We were given a basket of bread with dip. I usually don't eat much bread, but it was crusty and soft. We started with the octopus and a beet salad. Both were excellent. I would've preferred the multiple mini ones that seemed like a larger portion and more shareable. The Adana was very delicious, but came with a pretty small portion of meat for what you pay for. The tomato salad was fresh and good, but again, didn't justify the price point. We were so lucky to find this place on a special occasion--it was my dad's birthday, and I hadn't planned as far ahead as I should have. I called the day before, and the restaurant was incredibly accommodating. From the moment we arrived, the service was truly outstanding. Everyone was so kind, attentive, and welcoming, and their warmth really elevated the entire experience. The food was exceptional. I travel often and seek out Middle Eastern, Persian, and Turkish cuisine whenever I can, and this restaurant felt truly special. The ambiance is beautiful. We started with the muhammara, which I order often, and this was hands down the best I've ever had--rich, balanced, and deeply flavorful. The dumplings were another highlight, and I really appreciated that they offered a veggie and beef combination, especially since I don't eat beef. I also loved the bread basket--so good and perfect for sharing. We ordered a mix of three appetizers and three entrées for the three of us, and honestly, it was way more food than we needed. I had heard that portions were small, but we found them to be quite generous. My only takeaway for next time would be to order one fewer entrée and explore even more of the appetizers instead--they're so interesting and fun, and I would love to try more of them. The eggplant dish was a delicious, satisfying entrée, and my dad absolutely loved his lamb chops. I am a giant fan of their Palo Alto location and was excited to try the original location. Perhaps the expectations were too high because it was just OK. I also made the mistake of hyping it too much to everyone in our party. We did the tasting menu and the choices that were served were off. Other than the lamb chops, everything that was served to us seemed to be off the beaten path and not the popular items we were expecting. Eg. lamb liver for the appetizer. The food was also just OK...even the baklava was on the dry side. I am guessing it was just an off night since I know the management is top-notch and cares about the experience they provide. I will just stick to the Palo Alto location going forward. read more

Underwhelming! We went for a team lunch on a Thursday afternoon and were seated right away. Our server and the service was exemplary but I was so disappointed with the portion sizes, pricing, and overall taste of the food. The Trio Sigara Boregi (had to copy the name from the menu huh) basically phyllo dough roll pastries with fillings - tasted good but was extremely small and not shareable. The $29 Branzino - Mediterranean sea bass with Meyhouse Green Salad was bland and not worth the price. The salad seemed to have been tossed in just olive oil. Definitely expected more. I should have tried the Kabobs or Kofte maybe. While the restaurant had a fun vibe and the service was excellent, the overall experience was like I said underwhelming! read more

Came here with my friends for dinner without a reservation on a Sunday night. We were able to get a seat outdoors since all the indoors were reserved. We got a lot of cold appetizers to share. My friend took the lead at this place so I have no idea what the dishes were, but all the dips were really good especially the acidic eggplant and tomato ones. We got the vegetarian dumplings because they looked really good and were a popular dish but they were alright. The best dish was the dessert: knafeh and ice cream, with a candle for my birthday. Around the time we got the mains I was feeling a bit gassy and when we finally ordered dessert I started feeling more pain in my stomach. We had a 30 minutes drive back to San Mateo and I thought I would make it but I re-routed google maps to Whole Foods on the way. But as we were driving it was clear I had to go and I had to go now. We pulled into IKEA 2 minutes before it's closing, and the parking lot maze and speed bumps were diabolical. I had no idea where the bathroom was ran up the ran up the escalator thankfully it was right there because if it wasn't then I don't know where I would have gone. It was the most urgency I've ever experienced in my life and I could have probably gone in a bag or between the car and door had I had no other choice. I don't know what I ate here that could have lead to this because it was pretty good but I am sad that this was my experience but it is what it is. Maybe the experience would have been better indoors where it was less cold or with orders of hot food. read more
