So many positive reviews for Mazra, I had to check it out! There are plenty of great Mediterranean spots in the Bay Area, but Mazra exceeded my expectations. It was obvious from the first bite that this wasn't just another kebab-and-hummus restaurant trying to blend in with the rest. I ordered the grilled salmon, and it was cooked perfectly tender, flaky, and finished with a subtle smoky flavor. Even the rice was incredibly flavorful with a slight tang that balanced the richness of the meal really well. The biggest surprise, though, was the fries. They were perfectly crispy with a well seasoned coating that made them hard to stop eating. Next time I'll definitely have to try the whole cauliflower, which looked amazing on nearly every table around us. HOWEVER, I'm not sure the flavors were anything special. Yes, the food is so vibrant and the variety is awesome. But from all the dishes we got, nothing stood out and made us yell "YUM". The portions are good for the price, but again.....it wasn't too worth it after tasting the food. None of it was bland, but none of it was as flavorful as we expected (from the colors, presentation, variety, etc.). My expectations were just very high coming in and I was a bit disappointed..... Why 5 stars? Because I will be thinking about the Chicken Shawarma for a long time. --- --- --- As a conference I was attending nearby was soon to wrap up, I placed a pickup order from Mazra so I could scarf down lunch before meeting up with a friend. I was inside the building for approximately 6.2 seconds to grab my bag and then walked about a mile to my hotel where this was consumed. I share that detail with you to illustrate that it's not like I ate this the way god intended. And yet, upon the first bite hitting my lips, the delay in consumption proved to not matter. I really don't know how this managed to be so amazing. Was it the bread? Was it the chicken? Was it the fixins? All of the above? Either way, I loved every bite and the sauces that accompanied were great too. I think one was a little light garlic mix and the other was something with an orangeish hue. I enjoyed taking pretty much every other bite alternating sauces because they were very different but equally enjoyable. I absolutely love Mazra! I have been several times to the RWC location and hope to go to their San Bruno location soon. Even though the cutlery, water, and complimentary tea are self serve and you order your food and drinks via a QR code, the hospitality of the staff is attentive and quick. Also the online menu has pictures for us visual eaters! It's located on pedestrian-friendly walkway with both outdoor and indoor seating but parking is a bit difficult during peak dinner time. I have tried the double kebab plate, the chicken shawarma plate, the roasted beet salad, the whole cauliflower, the grilled lamb chops, the garlic rotisserie chicken, the basmati rice, the French fries, garlic potatoes and nearly all the dips from the hummus to the tzatziki to the baba ganoush. Not a single entree, salad or side disappointed. Every single item I've tried here has been fantastic, perfect texture whether it's crispy or creamy, fresh, delicious and a generous serving size portion. The hype isn't just hype, it's the real deal authentic (and 100% Halal meat) dishes from the Levant and Mediterranean that are prepared over 100% mesquite wood that you can smell it in the air if you dine inside. We ordered the dip trio, whole cauliflower, and 2 kebab plates to share (which was plenty for 3 people). Everything was so good and very filling. Some highlights were the tzatziki, GARLIC POTATOES (trust), and the filet mignon cause it was very tender. They also have complimentary spiced tea which was the perfect end to my meal. We went for dinner today. Waited for 20 minutes to get my name down on the waitlist. If you have such a long waitlist, I am an open table for Yelp for reservations. They told us it could be a week which we were okay with. The table was ready only 55 minutes later. They are drawn out of all vegetarian options for entrees. Why even offer a table if you don't have food. I went and asked their unfriendly hostess but the manager came out and said that he would order us a platter and replace the falafel and he would ring me up at the table. But he told me that I didn't put in order on my phone (which I was unable to because they had run out) Our table was completely ignored and they put a poor disabled persons wheelchair next to my daughter and didn't even bother to check if that other person or we were comfortable. Mr Jorge the manager said he would compensate us for the meal which we would not have accepted but he disappeared right after and didn't care that he literally lied to our faces. The service fee here is charged before the food is brought out and literally everything about this place is a self service. The food was good, the ambience was good but the way you are treated after charging fine dining prices is worse than fast food. We paid over $80 and weren't full, didn't enjoy dinner. If you can't run a restaurant, don't open one. I'm angry at the way I got treated today and honestly I don't do this often. I love to give good reviews but please yelpers avoid Mazra. I came here with friends for a girls' brunch and really enjoyed the food and atmosphere! I ordered a strawberry lemonade (very refreshing), a halloumi appetizer, and chicken and rice plate. My friends each ordered other dishes (like the cauliflower or the double kebab with filet mignon) and we shared everything family-style. All of the dishes were well seasoned, well portioned, healthy, and tasty. I will say, their portion sizes are hefty so I had food for multiple days afterwards! I've had Mazra bookmarked for ages and it did not disappoint! We went on a Friday night almost around the time of closing and they were still busy. We were worried they weren't seating any more parties, but luckily we were able to get in at the last minute! The space itself looks quite beautiful, with a cool Mediterranean/Middle Eastern vibe and lots of greenery. They had QR codes where you could order from the tables, but we were having trouble with it and were able to order at the register up front. For drinks, we got a mint lemonade and a cantaloupe melon. Both were good, but the cantaloupe melon was especially refreshing and yummy! Now for the food - we got the whole cauliflower, a double kabob plate, and a steak shawarma plate. Both of the plates came with sides, so we got a bunch of the dips to try and some roasted veggies. My fave was 100% the double kebab plate. Everything about it was sooooo flavorful, from the rice to the meat. For the two proteins, we got the chicken and the beef kofta. It was my first time having beef kofta, and I was surprised by how soft and tender the meat was. I was doubly impressed by the chicken, which was white meat, which is normally not my preference, but was still so juicy and flavorful. Ugh it was so good. The whole roasted cauliflower was also good, with a nice crispy exterior and a tahini sauce. Personally, I thought the beef in the steak shawarma plate was a bit dry, but the bf liked it. The food came at a steady pace, and the staff were all smiling. Just about everything is grilled, with a great smokey flavor. Every item we tasted was 5/5. What we got: + whole roasted cauliflower - must have. It's tender with lot of spices and a sauce at the bottom. + Double Kebab Plate (comes with pita and 2 sides) - you choose 2 proteins (lamb and filet mignon in our case), and that sits on a bed of saffron rice. The meats were so tender and flavorful. + Grilled Veggie Bowl (comes with pita and 2 sides) - I never knew veggies could taste this good. How did it take me so long to get to Mazra? Finally made it here for dinner and wow! First, did you know they have a back patio? It's awesome! Service is super friendly, you can order at the cash register but way easier to use the QR code at your table. Food comes out super fast and everything was delicious. We were told that the wait would be between 30-45 minutes so just be aware that the restaurant gets very busy around dinner time. After being seated on the patio, we scanned the QR code and ordered the Grilled Veggie Bowl with fries and hummus and the Falafel wrap, and it was ready within 15 minutes. Water is self-serve Grilled Veggie Bowl (4.5/5): Huge portion size! This alone would have been enough for the both of us. The vegetables were well and seasoned! Hummus tasted fresh and fries were crispy. Would have liked more sauce on the side. Falafel wrap (4/5): The falafels were well cooked - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The wrap was light and simple, and I think more seasoning in the falafels and extra hot sauce and/or tzatziki would have elevated the dish Overall, everything tasted very fresh. Came here on a Sunday evening around 5pm? Was pretty busy but not overwhelming just yet. Short line to get our name on the list. I ordered the double shawarma plate - opted for chicken and filet mignon (+$2) with hummus and fries as my side ($28 total). I also added their baked chicken wings (8 pieces for $16). The food came out one by one at a reasonable time. At one point, they came out with a Shawarma wrap that nobody ordered. I was the last one to get my order. I had to ask someone to check on my order and when she asked me what it was, I told her my order and she responded "oh maybe the chicken wings is why we are busy." I don't think she meant any harm in that but I thought to myself "did my wings set the whole kitchen behind lol?" 2 mins later, my food came but it was not warm at all so must've been sitting at the window, forgotten. They brought me 2 hummus instead of 1 hummus and 1 fries so I had to ask about it again. Came out in less than 30 seconds. As for the food - everything tasted pretty bland. It definitely needed the sauce they gave but I always think if a food NEEDS the sauce for flavor, something isn't right. As a big fan of their original San Bruno location, we were excited to pick up some lunch from their Redwood City restaurant. The chicken shawarma combo came with 2 sides (veggies and muhammara) and the shawarma supposedly had pomegranate molasses in it but I couldn't quite taste it. The chicken was well cooked and seasoned nicely. The muhammara was the real star of the show and had the perfect balance of nuttiness and sweetness. My group split the roasted whole cauliflower, and I got a double kebab plate. The food: The whole roasted cauliflower was delicious! It was fork tender and seasoned beautifully. 10/10 would recommend. My kebab choices were the chicken and filet mignon which were both really good. For my sides I got the potatoes and baba ganoush. I'd say the most ordinary thing on the plate was the baba ganoush. It was certainly OK, but it was missing the smoky eggplant flavor I look for. Overall, the food here is really good! Very impressed. Service: there were several points here which I felt the service staff were lacking. When I arrived back after the restaurant notified me of my table being ready, I still had to wait 10-15 minutes for them to prepare the table. Several times during that period, the hostess nearly seated a different party in our table and it was hard to hear when they attempted to get our party to the table. We were also told not to wait near the front because it was congested there but the hostess told us to wait for the table and made no attempt to recognize our group tied to the waitlist name. I felt that I had to be super attentive as to when she came out since she was making little short to ensure we were the correct party. When we were finally seated and the first dish came out, I had to bother the waitstaff again for plates since nobody bothered to bring those out for us either. The waiter then just handed me the dishes and I brought them to our table myself. While I understand that the restaurant is busy at peak lunch time, I think the price point of the food here justifies a level of service that MAZRA did not provide.
