    ceviche

Came to celebrate an anniversary and staff acknowledged it immediately upon arrival. The space is very cute and decorated well. There's also outdoor seating for warmer weather. We ordered the ceviche ($21), papas bravas ($11), kale salad ($17), salmon ($35), and seafood pasta ($34). The ceviche was fresh and I really liked the citrusy notes (it was quite tropical and I thought it was possibly passionfruit?). The papas bravas was a decent sized serving and came with an addictive sauce. The kale salad came with a piece of fried feta and the only fault I found with it... was that I wanted more fried feta bits! Salmon was cooked well, and I liked the accompanying veggies - seemed like a very healthy Mediterranean dish. The seafood pasta was also very good. Husband said the fish in his dish was cooked even better than mine. Lastly, they offered us a whole complimentary dessert. We were already beyond stuffed at that point, but who are we to turn down a coconut creme brulee? Another review said they couldn't taste the coconut, but it's definitely there. It's not overpowering, but it's a good balance.

Came here for lunch with a friend, wasn't blown away by this place. We ordered the mezze dips, the octopus and chicken platter. They were all ok. The tzatziki sauce was very watery. The Greek salad on the platter dish was pretty boring. I think the octopus was the best dish. I like the outdoor seating but it was overall just mediocre.

The food was absolutely delicious. The service was spot on. Great glass of wine and we had two ice cold beers before. So tasty and fresh and we will be back.

We came on a chilly night and easily got a reservation inside this small but inviting restaurant. I wish the hadn't kept the doors wide open. The restaurant felt colder than we typically like. The food was very good, though the prices felt high for the portion sizes. Our favorites were the falafel (excellent flavor and perfectly fried that didn't need the sauce), the lamb chops, and the whole branzino. Be careful of the bones in the fish though. They were hard to spot in the darkish restaurant. Our service was good and appropriately attentive. Unfortunately the table next to us never got one of their main dishes but since what wasn't my experience, the star rating doesn't reflect that.

Service was excellent - everyone is attentive and coordinated - from sitting us, offered some free sparkling wine ( Mother's day) , refilling water, bussing table, upselling wine. Their place is cozy at the corner across Roblox company. The food was okay. We like the chicken skewers and shrimp skewers. The beef tenderloin was good as well. I just noticed the bell pepper overflow on ceviche ( didn't feel the jalapeño stated) and it overpowered the goal of the sour effect kick, same for the plate offerings. Calamari was to perfection though and generous serving to its price.

I came with a group of friends for a birthday lunch during lunch time. My friend made the reservation, and I'm glad she did because it became quite busy closer to noon! The restaurant interior was nicely lit and well decorated and clean. We ordered a decent amount of food that were all superb! Appetizers: -Kalamarakia aka calamari: 5/5. It was perfectly fried and crisp! I liked the addition of zucchini and artichokes too. -Spread Combination: 4/5 it came with 4 different dips and pita: they were all well prepared and tasted really good. I found the Muhammara the best dip, but I thought $26 was a bit steep for the amount you get of each dip. Entrees: Tenderloin souvlaki: 5/5. The meat was tender and easy to eat! Very well cooked with the nice char on the outside. Chicken souvlaki: 5/5. Again, the chicken was well cooked! Juicy and delicious! Seafood paella: 4/5. The rice and flavors were on point and presentation was also very nice. However, we made one mussel that was closed in our dish. This is just me being overly picky though tbh! Psaraki: 5/5. I'm honestly not a huge fan of whole grilled fish but this was well prepared! The fish was nice and soft inside. I really enjoyed the potatoes it was served with. Overall, good place with good vibes and food. I'd come back to eat the souvlakis because they were cooked really well!

This place is underrated. The food is amazing and great for sharing! We went on a rainy day, so there was only one server, and service was kinda slow.

We recently visited a new Mediterranean restaurant in San Mateo for dinner. When we arrived, the place wasn't too busy. Although the restaurant is relatively small, it features a pleasant bar area. Interior is very nice. The chair may be need more cushion. They offer a variety of white and red wines, but it seems they don't serve cocktails. The menu boasts plenty of options to choose from. We ordered the spread combination, sauted veggie dish, souvlakis tenderloin, souvlakis chicken, and seafood paella. The spread combination came with four types of spreads, all of which were delicious, and the pita bread was still warm. The veggie dish was well-cooked, not overly soft, and the chicken was tender though slightly salty. The tenderloin was tasty, but some parts were a bit tough; a knife for cutting the tenderloin would have been appreciated. The seafood paella was flavorful, but I believe it would be better without the chicken, as it is a seafood dish. The chicken itself was tender, but all-seafood paella would be good enouugh. Overalk the price is reasonable. We ended our meal with a chocolate lava cake, which was delightful and served warm. Overall, it was a good dinner with excellent service. It is about 4 to 5 stars

Came here on a Saturday night with my boyfriend. It wasn't too busy, but since the tables were full, we sat at the bar. We each ordered a glass of wine, and the staff were kind enough to let us sample two different options before deciding on what we wanted. For starters, we had the ceviche, which included a nice variety of seafood, plantain chips, and had an overall touch of sweetness which I liked! For our entrée, we shared the seafood paella. It had a rich, citrusy flavor and was a great portion for two people to share. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate lava cake, which wasn't overly sweet and was the perfect treat to end our meal. The ambiance was warm and inviting, with soft lighting and a cozy fireplace display on the wall. The staff were also very attentive and friendly throughout our visit. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place, especially if you're looking for a great date night spot!

Solid new Mediterranean restaurant in San Mateo. I ordered the dip spread and seafood paella to share. Both dishes came out fairly quickly a the service here was attentive. I loved the variety they gave in the dip platter and also loved the paella. I'll definitely be back to try more of their menu.

Nice relatively new spot in the same little plaza with the mirror maze in the front and Blue Bottle. It's a small space, but there is a pretty bar in the center of the restaurant. Our server was nice, but she was also co-managing the bar, so service was spotty. We loved the sampler dip which came with 4 of the mezzes- a hummus, tzatziki, eggplant yogurt, and a red pepper based one. Liked them all, but probably the red pepper one muhammara was most flavorful if I had to pick one. Caesar salad was basic, except with one twist- the parmesean was baked into one huge crisp. My husband enjoyed his chicken kabab and found it flavorful, I always find kebabs to be too chewy, and this one was no different for me. The beef burger was super juicy and personally had all my favorite burger toppings: ie sauteed onions, avocado, mushrooms, cheese. They also have a garden burger and lamb burger. The paella was tender and flavorful- average amount of clams/mussels/squid; I found the salmon bits most tasty- but that was sparse. Overall had a lovely dinner. Also enjoyed the glass of Cab Franc- complex without a harsh tannin finish.

Bahche is an upscale Mezze Greek & Mediterranean restaurant / wine bar and a brilliant new addition to San Mateo's Hillsdale neighborhood. This particular side of San Mateo is going through some renovations, there are a couple of new venues opening in the surrounding area. I hope they are as good as Bahche! I met up with my mate for lunch on a rather warm Monday afternoon and was very happy with our choice of venue. I was a bit skeptical of the glowing reviews, but thought we'd give it a shot. We don't have Greek or Mediterranean food that often. While it's not the largest of venues, Bahche is very welcoming with its high ceilings and natural light. There is plenty of counter seating at the bar and a handful of tables along the wall. There was some outdoor seating as well, but in this heatwave... forget about it! Plenty of parking available around the neighborhood. I'm not sure if there is a garage close by. We choose to order a couple of appetizers and share a main dish. We weren't sure of the portion sizes and didn't want to go overboard. We also planned to head downtown afterwards and grab some dessert... so had to leave some room for that sweet tooth. #MediterraneanEats: MEZZES: ~ SPREAD COMBINATION - 5/5 hummus - 4.5/5 tzatziki - 4/5 melitzanosalata - 4.5/5 muhammara - 4.5/5 An absolutely brilliant opportunity to sample a healthy variety of spreads. All of them were delish! They refilled out Pita when we needed more. ~ OCTAPODAKI - 5/5 The Octopus was cooked perfectly ; slightly charred, but soft and tender. Served with Potatoes and some sauce. AMAZING! I wish this was a meal. BAHCHE MAINS: ~ SEAFOOD PAELLA - 4.5/5 The main course we ended up sharing. The Paella had plenty of flavor, but I do wish it had a bit more seafood in it. I thought it was a bit heavier on the rice, which was still amazing and had plenty of flavor as well. DESSERT: ~ BREAD PUDDING - 5/5 A perfect moist and warm spiced Brioche bread with Golden Raisins, Anglaise sauce (whatever that is) topped off with Vanilla Ice Cream. The service was brilliant. We had the pleasure of interacting with Arlen; nice guy, attentive, efficient and knowledgeable without being overbearing. He suggested the Bread Pudding as a dessert. So goad we took up his recommendation. Bahche hasn't been open that long. There weren't a lot of folks inside since they just opened up the lunch hours. I can't wait to return and try the rest of the menu...

This beautiful, new Mediterranean restaurant is located in a quieter area of San Mateo. I found it on Yelp and decided to give it a try! The interiors give off a romantic vibe perfect for date night! Love the high ceilings and bar lighting! The owner, Yusuf was personable, warm and welcoming! We chatted with him for a bit and found that they just opened 3 weeks ago. And he has a few other restaurants in San Francisco. What a busy guy!! ***OUR PICKS*** SPREAD COMBINATION ~ hummus, tzatziki, muhammara, melitzanosalata ~ really great dips! They get your appetite going! *Hummus ~ silky chickpea, yogurt, lemon, olive oil. There's a sweetness from caramelized onions. *Tzatziki ~ house yogurt, lemon, olive oil, dill. A little more creamy than average. *Muhammara ~ charred eggplant, house yogurt, lemon, olive oil. You can taste the smokiness! I think this was my favorite. *Melitzanosalata ~ roasted peppers, isot chili, walnuts, pomegranate molasses. We enjoyed the four dips and their unique, distinctive flavors. Though the pita bread could be less burnt. However, I still thought it was delicious! My two favorites among the 4 were the Melitzansalata and Muhammara. 5/5 SOUVLAKIS TENDERLOIN ~ Tender beef cubed on a skewer with a little bit of burnt tomato and sumac onions. Wish there were a bit more vegetables in this dish. But the beef was soft and perfectly cooked. My guy thought it was a bit on the saltier side. I only had one piece, so I didn't notice. 4.5/5 SOUVLAKIS KEFTEDES ~ ground lamb meatballs with tzatziki, burnt tomato, and sumac onions. Soft and juicy lamb that was seasoned just right. Though I think the plate was a little too big that it was visually bare. Like I had said, it probably could have used more vegetables to fill the plate. 4.5/5 BREAD PUDDING WITH VANILLA ICE CREAM ~ now that was icing on the cake! It was yummy and not overly sweet. Just WONDERFUL! On the menu, it doesn't come with ice cream, but I think it should! It cools off the hot bread pudding! LOVED IT!!! 5/5 If you want rice and a salad, it's another $10. For sure, that would have filled the plate. But we had enough pita bread/carbs to fill us up! Yousef was kind enough to comp us bread pudding with ice cream! Very sweet of him! Great ambiance, great service, great food!

We sat outside, and the atmosphere felt tired and uninspired. There was nothing particularly inviting or memorable about the space. We ordered the bruschetta sampler ($24), choosing the mango, salmon, mushroom with prosciutto, and tomato mozzarella varieties. Surprisingly, they all tasted almost exactly the same. Nothing tasted fresh or vibrant. The bread was especially disappointing--bland, lacking texture, and seemingly devoid of flavor. The mango wasn't sweet, the tomatoes tasted like nothing, and even the mozzarella lacked freshness and character. The wine was equally underwhelming. My husband ordered the Tempranillo and I had the Albariño. Neither was enjoyable; both tasted harsh and overly alcoholic rather than balanced or flavorful. Even the presentation missed the mark. The glassware felt dated and unattractive, which only added to the overall feeling that the restaurant is past its prime. Unfortunately, this was not a memorable meal for the right reasons. With so many great dining options available, we won't be returning.
