This is more than a wine bar to me its a place where I go for a peaceful evening to feel taken care of like I'm a guest in someone's home. The owners are the loveliest people, they think of everything and go out of their way to make sure everyone is comfortable from the moment they arrive. I have enjoyed it alone, brought friends, and dates here! It's always the best vibe to just relax and chat over expertly selected wine flights with a beautiful ambiance and top notch service. This is a must go if you are into wine, good simple food, beautiful warm settings and humans that pour love into their work and community. I hope this establishment lasts as long as possible, its a diamond on Laurel! 12/10 read more

I have been coming to Rouge once or twice a week since the first day in opened in spring of 2025. The owner Steve greets every customer as they come in and makes everyone feel welcome. A great selection of affordable wines that is always changing. Every food item on the menu is prepared with quality ingredients and is visually appealing as well as very tasty. We have come here multiple times and have always had a positive experience. I have enjoyed a few different wine flights, and the service has been exceptional. No wonder Rouge Lounge is getting good reviews. Aside from good wine and food, Steve and Sema are excellent hosts. Both mingled around to ensure that guests were comfortable and well attended. Dog friendly and the owner is super nice too! Love this new addition to San Carlos downtown. The patio is perfect for people watching with your pup. We enjoyed the aperol spritz and there were a lot of wines to choose from. I did a red wine flight, the wines were just ok. Did not like anything in this rotation. I'm usually a Napa cab type of person, being a club member to multiple places, I'm just particular with the wines I drink. read more

We LOVE rouge. They have an excellent rotating selection of wines. There's always something new and delicious to try. My personal favorites are the rosés especially for summertime. It's such a great spot for an afternoon drink on the patio. The owners and staff are amazing and always so attentive and helpful. I can't say enough good things about this place! This place has the nicest owners running it, an amazing charcuterie board with premium imported ingredients, and amazing wine flights that do not skimp on the pour! This was a great place to stop in over the weekend, where they have a "stop and stay awhile" attitude, and you end up making new friends. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The wine selection especially the Reds and European Flights were great choices. The daily special menu of Prime Rib tacos, and Bacon wrapped Jumbo Shrimps were so amazing. Also had for starters, Elephant Garlic with Brie cheese, Hummus and Nachos. To finish off the B day celebration, we had tiramisu and cheesecake with Turkish coffee was delightful. This has been our new favorite spot since it opened last year. It's has an excellent ambiance/feel, both by the decor and also the incredible hospitality of Steve, the front-of-house proprietor. Steve has a wonderful personality and also an incredible memory -- I'll come back after 4-5 weeks and he remembers our past conversation better than I do. The food is excellent, they have a small kitchen that produces wonders, the flat breads in particular are divine. We recently hosted a birthday party there, and Steve and his wife Sema did an amazing job, decorating creatively and hosting outstandingly. We did the 'full' (not inexpensive) option for catering the dinner, and OMG the filet mignon, bacon-wrapped shrimp, and flatbreads drew many oohs and ahhhs from our guests. Great spot all around, can't recommend it enough. read more

The artisanal cheeses and ingredients were curated with care and really highlighted the quality of their origins. The patio is a great place to enjoy a nice weekend day and there's easy street parking nearby. Service was also phenomenal, the owner made sure we're comfortable and had room for our stroller. I've been impressed with its artisan, seasonal menu offerings along with the wine pairings and flights. Steve always has a suggestion for a new wine or a new beer he has imported. We recently celebrated a birthday and Sema arranged to have a Happy Birthday sign at our table - that small touch made my friend feel so special. No wait, they're DUELING. Two guys absolutely going at it on the keys, taking requests, and the crowd is just vibing. I mean really vibing. The cocktails are flowing, people are singing, and somewhere in the back of my head a little voice says "this is going to be a late night." I did not listen to that voice. No regrets. The whiskey selection is, and I say this with complete authority and only slightly blurry vision, "surprisingly incredible". The cocktails are also dialed in, they've got concoctions on the menu that you may have never heard of, or just pick the vibe you're going for and trust the process. I trusted the process. Multiple times. I used to go to Savannah Jazz back in the day. RIP, still not over it, but honestly?? This place might actually be BETTER. I said what I said. The music hits different when it's right in the middle of the whole room instead of tucked in the back somewhere. Oh and there's an outdoor area too for when you need some of that cool peninsula night air to... recalibrate. I used it. It helped. Briefly.

The roti, however, was unexpectedly deep fried and I personally thought this took away from the buttery flaky texture. For mains, we ordered several plates but few actually stood out. The chicken in the green curry was super overcooked and the curry itself was pretty thin. The main ingredient was also canned bamboo shoots so in my opinion, it was not good value. The larb was also a fairly small serving size and it wasn't quite as punchy as I would like. I typically associate larb with a lot of fresh herbs and lettuce leaves for eating and unfortunately neither were present. Moreover the green beans we ordered were also sautéed just a bit under leading it to be a little grassy and a bit tougher to chew. There also wasn't much flavoring on this. The tiger crying and the pad see ew though were as expected in my opinion which was good. We also added a few of their dressed oysters after learning that it was $1.50 each. Now this was punchy. It had some chili jam, lime juice, and fried shallots. I would have more of these for sure. All in all, Sen Thai is middle of the road for me. It'll scratch that itch for Thai food if you really want it but there's also better options in nearby cities in my opinion.

After an afternoon run, my husband and I stumbled upon Rouge Lounge. As we were walking, Stamos graciously invited us to sit down outside. From that moment, Stamos and his staff were extremely attentive and provided us with excellent service. Stamos explained the food and wine list. The summer menu which included a delicious feta and watermelon salad paired very nicely with the wine Stamos brought to us. After going to Rouge a few times and getting to know Stamos and Sema, they graciously offered for my husband and I to throw a wedding party at Rouge for 70 of our guests. Stamos, Sema and their wonderful staff created a personalized menu which included in-house guacamole and salsa, fresh tortillas, chicken, steak, rice and beans. My friends and husband all had the mocktail which I think had better flavor. Our dog was able to hang out with us on the patio. They started blasting really loud music...which she was actually okay with. I originally wanted to come here, since at one point in time they may have had a lavender drink, but currently they aren't serving anything floral. I would come back for the mocktail and try out the tapas, though they currently only have one type of mocktail.

The fried chicken was juicy. It was served with 3 cheese macaroni, corn bread and parsley. I didn't know what to do with the parsley. Overall, the meal looked and sounded better than it tasted. It'll be a while until I come back.
