Random bar near the RWC Caltrain station that surprisingly stayed open on the later side (we're talking past 10pm!) while all the other eateries went to sleep (it was a school night). Service was efficient, not the friendliest but can't complain because drinks were consistent and well made. My girlfriend and I caught up in the front patio area and went through multiple rounds -- music indoors was on the louder side. Bathroom situation isn't ideal so plan to hold your pee! read more

My friend and I decided to have a couple late night drinks in Nighthawk. The music drew us in. They were playing OM Records style house music- the likes of Miguel Migs, and Lisa Shaw. Since, there were two of us we decided to sit at the bar, but the lounge seating looked inviting also. Looks like they also have a patio, but it was brisk last night. Carlos was the bartender. We started off with a mojito, and I asked for the Love For Shrub tequila cocktail. I enjoyed it but was feeling like a Paloma next. They didn't have any fresh grapefruit juice for my Paloma. So I asked for a Tequila Smash- lime, orange juice or lemon juice, mint and tequila. I knew Carlos may not be familiar with my request, but he was nice enough to look at the ingredients on my phone and make an amazing cocktail- even putting in the extra work to squeeze the oranges for us. Thank you Carlos! We would not do this if the bar was super busy, but we both appreciated his solicitousness. There's no food here, but apparently you can bring in food according to another Yelper. This is more like an after dinner cocktail joint for me. It's the music that drew me in. It's likely I'll be back again. The atmosphere was pleasant and fun. read more

This restaurant's ambiance is unmatched. Decorated really well, with it being outdoor but feels very indoor with how well the plants and tables are set up. Flames, fountains and greenery everywhere. Our server was very helpful, our group has some restrictions and allergies but we were able to find a good balance of items to share. We ordered the meze collection to start off to share. Every was very fresh and we are every single bit. We also had the Greek salad, which was very finely chopped. We ordered another order of hummus/pita. Our second pita was very different from the first, didn't seem consistent as the night went one. We had the salmon plate as well which was good. I would say the food was decent but it's not really what you come to this place for mainly. Plan to come back to try some of their yummy drinks! read more

Arrived around 9:30 PM on a Friday night and the bar was full but not packed. The space is small with one bathroom (the door didn't lock!!!) The drinks were well made and the music was as extremely loud (EDM). I didn't have any issues ordering the drinks with staff, like some other reviewers pointed out. Stopped by Nighthawk prior to waiting for a table at Mazra. Sat at the table for a bit but ended up ordering drinks directly at the bar. Staff didn't seem too friendly when we visited. They were out of the hazy IPA I wanted, so ended up just getting wine for ~$16 a glass. It was weird to get charged a 4% credit card free, and didn't see any signage. Parking is tough in the area. I parked in the parking structure nearby. read more

Loved the vibe at Nighthawk. The indoor space had great music and cozy energy, while the outdoor seating was perfect for people-watching and soaking in the downtown Redwood City buzz. I started with the Love For Shrub, but it ended up being way too sweet for my taste. I usually just deal with it, but this time I asked the bartender if I could switch--and they were incredibly kind about it. They even offered two wine samples to help me find a better fit. I didn't go with either, but the gesture was appreciated. Landed on an Old Fashioned, which turned out to be exactly what I needed. I stopped by a few Fridays ago. It had some dancy lounge vibes, as much of the street did that evening (but less intense). The bar itself is kinda small but the parket is spacious and well built. The pros: solid drinks, good selection of alcohol, they know how to make craft cocktails. The cons: limited seating, gets really busy and service can be slow. I like to come here for a drink while waiting for a restaurant reservation or for more of a happy hour drink. I find that once it's later and it gets pretty busy, the quality of the drinks go down and it's really hard to find anywhere to sit. The interior is cute though, and I love their neon signs. Pretty comparable to Blacksmith across the street, although Blacksmith is a smidge better in my opinion. Combine them and make Blackhawk? Iconic. ;) read more

I visited Nighthawk for the first time last night. I thought I had entered the "get off my lawn" phase after feeling compelled to write a Yelp review AND YET, I see that others have had similar experiences. So here goes nothing. First, a little context. We all know that alcohol consumption is trending downwards among Americans, so you'd think that bars would be a bit more accommodating, a bit more friendly and try harder to create an environment where patrons want to RETURN. Second, this was my first time in NightHawk. Joined a few friends after a lovely dinner across the street. Third, the ambiance is inviting. Definitely turned into the loud club sense around 10p. Totally fine for the younger clientele. Too loud for me. No harm. No foul. Fourth, the prices are moderate to high. I get it. It is booze. We all have come to accept the 500% markup for alcohol. NOW, here is were why I feel like my experience is not so unique. Bartender was NOT friendly. We arrived around 8:30p. I learned that there is not table service. Fine. I get it. I went to the bar to order for the 4 of us. It wasn't that busy, really, but I still had the sense that I was intruding into his shift. Simple order. When I asked for water for our DD, he simply just nodded his head towards the water jar at the end of the bar. He takes my credit card, creates the bill, and shoves the receipt towards me. He barks at me to come back in a few minutes and my drinks will be ready. Finally, the 4% credit card fee on top of the 500% mark-up just adds insult to injury. Like one of Pavlov's dogs, I tipped 20% on the total because it was too dark to read the fine print. Yup, that is on me. Curse my aging eyes. BUT HEY, where was the sign giving us notice there was a 4% markup?? To recap: ~Overpriced ~Bartender clearly not enjoying his job ~Credit card fee charge is stupid. Not coming back and I get the distinct impression that nobody at Nighthawk cares at all. read more

The bartender was kind enough on a Tuesday (and there were still tech bros grouped together) but after one glance of the one sided limited basic cocktail menu I just ordered a French 75. I have been frequenting Nighthawk since it opened. The ambiance is inviting, with dim lighting and a sleek, modern design that sets the perfect mood for a night out. What truly stands out at Nighthawk are the bartenders. Whether you're a cocktail aficionado or just looking for a great drink this is the place. I love the whole staff, but Kennedy is my favorite. She knows my tastes and can make suggestions when I want to go outside my comfort zone. She knows her gins and Amaros and makes great selections when asked. Plus, she does a mean lemon drop. Don't get me wrong, I also love all the guys there too. If you're in Redwood City and looking for a spot with excellent drinks and a team that truly elevates the experience, Nighthawk should be at the top of your list in RWC. A cute little place to chill. It wasn't overly crowded but did get full fast. My initial drink I wanted to try was the beet one but they were out of ingredients so went with the mermaid one. It was sweet and tart. The table we sat on still had drinks from the previous party so I imagine by end of the night it would be messy with so many people in and out. Solid 3-stars for this cocktail bar located in downtown Redwood City. We came here on a Friday night for a drink (or two) before dinner. The place was surprisingly not too busy for a Friday at 5:00 PM. We were greeted by the bartender upon arrival and handed a menu. We found a table and perused the menu for something nice to start the weekend. We settled on the Bloodhound and Sequoia Sour. Both drinks were refreshing and light, but the Sequoia Sour was a bit too sour for my taste. Our second round were Transparent Mermaid and Native Sons Manhattan. I enjoyed the Manhattan better than the Sequoia Sour. Friend liked both of her drinks. This is a good place to come have a drink if you are in the area. Drinks are fairly priced at around $11-$12 per cocktail. There is no server so must go up to bar to order, pick-up drinks and close out tab. Music was a little loud so hard to have a normal conversation. Parking on weekends may be a little challenging in the area, but we got dropped off so no issue for us.
