This is our go-to local winery for Friday happy hours and weekend lunches, and they really delivered for our special event. The wine, food, and charcuterie board were all excellent--and the salmon, as always, was spot on! Phil was a pleasure to work with and made curating the menu super easy and flexible. The day of the event brought unexpected gale level winds, but the team was well-prepared. They gave us a heads-up the day before & told us that they were prepared to move indoors in the morning depending on the severity. Morning of the event they swiftly moved everything indoors--right alongside their stunning supercar collection. I can't stress my 5-star rating enough. This was THE PLACE for a fun weekend afternoon. Of note, remember that this spot is "attached" to another place called AutoVino. Regarding the wine, there is a fun spot they have set up in the parking lot that this building is located in. The first thing you notice is just how beautiful the set up is. They have an outdoor water fountain, a fun little Italian car you can take photos with, and they have a FOOD TRUCK! You walk up to their table and just check in and let them know you are there for a wine tasting. The tasting was very affordable, I think it was just $20 for a 5 wine tasting with very decent sized pours. The service was FANTASTIC. I think the person helping us was Carrie (?) - she was fantastic. Did a nice explanation of all the wines. We also ordered a pizza and it was BOMB! So good and honestly paired perfectly with our wine tasting. They also waive the tasting fee if you buy some bottles (can't remember the exact numbers), and their wine was very affordable and way cheaper than going crazy up in Napa or something like that. All things considered, this was literally the perfect afternoon and I'm so thankful I stumbled upon this place. And oh, don't let me forget - while you are sipping on your tastings, you can walk through AutoVino where is basically like a high end car museum. You can walk around and check out some awesome cars. Don't sleep on this place! I stopped by during a walk and ended up leaving with a pizza and two bottles of wine. I tasted all of their reds while I waited for the pizza and enjoyed them all. As a picky person who has frequented a lot of tasting rooms this rivals some of the best in Napa/wine country. The people who run it are also incredibly warm and friendly. My first introduction to Woodside Vineyard, Woodside, CA was today at lunch at Brunello Ristorante Italiano, Menlo Park, CA, more on them in another review - Yelp 4 Star. Apparently they taste by reservation only, and the wines are in limited production for now. I hear they are stepping up production to 5000 cases soon and opening a tasting room at www.auto-vino.org We had the King's Mountain Cabernet. The color is a very deep ruby red, as it should be with lots of big fruit and mild on the tannin. The wine went very well with the chicken and mushrooms in a red crème sauce. This 2005 Cab is sold out at the winery; I understand some of the local BevMo may have it or your favorite upscale restaurant. In any event, watch for a wider distribution in the future as the winery grows and produces more from the mountain vineyards of Santa Cruz, CA. I am anxious to try their Chardonnay as I overheard a customer saying it was very good and went well with the Ravioli Aurora. read more

Quirky. It's not exactly the first word that springs to mind when tasting fine wine. Generally speaking, when people rhapsodize about memorable wines, they use words that are more ecstasy inducing in nature. Such wines can provoke emotional reactions for which critics reach for a thesaurus to put the tasting experience into words that other people easily can appreciate, so that they will rush out to buy a bottle for themselves. And words like "quirky" rarely make the cut. Fancy cars can be quirky, too, especially the older ones that harken back to a more genteel era than today's fast paced world of driverless vehicles and exotic automobiles that tend to be more supercharged than supercharming. Well preserved vintage automobiles are beautiful to behold, but each in their own, unique way. You want to look at them admiringly, not make love to them. And you know that five or ten years later, they will still look good, with signs of maturity evident but they will never get old. They will simply become classics. Woodside Vineyard wines are like that, too: destined to become classics. They aren't out to wow the critics or set the world on fire. But they could if they really wanted to. Or needed to. Except that, well, they really don't need to impress anybody. They embody the idiosyncratic place they come from: the "historic village" of Woodside that many ultra rich people call home but that also contains heritage vineyard sites surrounded by redwoods and oak groves that are truly world class. Cabernet. Chardonnay. Pinot. Old vine Zinfandel. All sourced from small sites scattered about the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. It's like Burgundy or Bordeaux but without the French chauvinism. It's just really well made, cellar worthy wine that will improve and become more complex with age. Part of the quirkiness of Woodside Vineyards is its location: while the vineyards are hidden away in exclusive enclaves in nearby Woodside, the wine making operations and tasting room are located about a half mile away from Facebook HQ, on a semi industrial side street of Menlo Park that is as unassuming as you'll get. Napa it ain't. Step inside (weekends from noon to 4pm) and the first things you'll notice are the cars at Auto Vino, a car and wine storage operation that shares the space with Woodside Vineyards and that hosts a wide range of corporate and catered events with the help of a wood fired pizza oven located in an outside picnic area. When you put these two pursuits together - car collecting and wine making - you get really interesting synergies. Collect, enjoy, and celebrate the classics: both heritage automobiles and heritage vineyards. It may not be the world's noblest mission, compared to world peace, sustainable living, or wildlife conservation, but it's not exactly nothing, either. Few wine tasting experiences anywhere in California can compare with a visit here. You'll leave with some outstanding bottles of wine in the $30-50 range that are very well priced for the quality. Plus, you'll get a tiny sample of Woodside quirkiness that makes it unlike the bucolic wine country ideals that Robert Mondavi and his many successors created to lure in the masses. No one will lure you in here. But if you build it right, at least some of them will come. And if you love great wine as much as you do great automobiles, you definitely will want to come, at least once in your life, before it all fades away. read more

We stumbled upon this place because it is right across the street from my Doctor. Industrial Road is not a place that you would expect to go wine tasting so we decided to give it a try. While the wines were good, that is not why I give Woodside Vineyards 5*s. First, the food is fantastic. They have a big red bus with a wood burning stove and they make great pizza, burgers and more. Better food that any tasting room in Healdsburg or Napa. Secondly, it's a very welcoming and friendly place. They are dog friendly as we took our beagle and lab. I noticed one reviewer gave 1* because her dog was constantly barking and when she did not do anything the remedy the problem, was asked to leave. As a dog owner myself, I'm totally good with that. Third, it's great place for lunch and a glass (or tasting) of wine, and unlike Healdsburg it is 10 minutes from my front door. In short, the created a little oasis in the middle of a parking lot and created a great place to swing by and have a great time. It's a great answer to the age ol' question that always seems to come up around noon on a Saturday or Sunday, "What do you want to do for lunch?".... I checked and you are now allowed to lick a Ferrari...they also request that you do not drool too much. The tasting room manager really does his job well. He knows the cars and the wine and was so wonderful to chat with. This place is not terribly "known" also so you do not have to deal with the A-Typical and always annoying bachelorette limo drunk annoying girls party rolling through which you get at a lot of other wine tasting rooms. I got a groupon for a pizza, wine tasting for two and a bottle of wine to Woodside vineyards. To be precise, Woodside vineyards is Autovino (check out their yelp page to get a real sense of the place). First of all, I tried to call for a reservation as Groupon directed. I left three messages on three different days before someone called me back to say just come in anytime. I like this flexibility but why waste my time telling me I need to make a reservation? I am not a car lover, so the appeal of this place was instantly lost on me. The whole place was designed like a rich guy's bat cave. Dozens of expensive vintage cars, a wine tasting bar, a pool table, and complete with a sofa with a flat screen TV. When you walk in, you immediately get a strong new car/gasoline smell. It was not the best wine tasting environment for me. Matt, our pizza maker/wine pourer was a very nice guy but a bit frazzled. The place wasn't used to the new attention it is receiving from Groupon and the wine passport crowd. He was the only one at work that day. The wine and pizza was tasty but the overall experience was not as pleasant as I had expected. It was a great deal for the Groupon, but I would personally not be back at full price. read more

This place is indeed, A-OK. A for effort. OK for wine. I'd give it 3+ stars on the experience side. If you are looking for vineyards, you will not find them. They do indeed get their grapes from vineyards, even vineyards in Woodside. In fact, they tend those same grapes themselves, which is more than you can say about lots of winemakers. As winetasting experiences go, however, you will have to work for it here. There's no cute gift shop. No fancy seats overlooking grapes. But there are grapes (right now as a I write this in September 2019). What Woodside Vineyards has that's unique is its location -- inside an auto storage facility. It's super clean, don't worry. These are collectible cars. Beautiful cars. And if you're "lucky" on the weekends, you can sip good wine while the owners take their cars out for a spin. read more

It started out as a 5 star experience and by the end of my visit has plummeted down to 1 star. I went there today with my dog and some friends. It's a dog friendly winery as there is ample outdoor seating and dogs are even allowed inside the building. The wine is excellent and the food is beyond amazing. However, my 1 star rating is due to a certain employee who basically asked me to leave because my dog was barking. He's a high-spirited dog and barks when he's overly excited, especially when he sees other dogs and there are a couple of very lifelike stuffed animals in the outdoor area that my dog thought were real. This employee (a frizzy blonde wearing a black dress) told me that other customers are not here for dogs and she implied that we would have to leave. Excuse me, but I'm a paying customer who bought food and bottles of wine at a supposedly dog friendly establishment. It was highly embarrassing for me and my friend who overheard her as well as other customers in the vicinity. It already stresses me out that he's a barker and I'm trying to control him and then to have an employee tell me to leave is highly inappropriate and rude. I was really put out and taken aback by her attitude, especially considering that one of the friends I was with is really good friends with the owners. She's been friends with the owners for about 10 years and I went to this winery on her invitation. I work in the food service industry myself and I would NEVER speak that way to a customer or guest, ever. And to have this happen at the end of a very enjoyable afternoon was very upsetting. She made me feel unwelcome and I won't feel comfortable bringing my dog there. No customer should be made to feel unwelcome. My friends and I had already started planning future trips to Woodside Vineyards, but after this experience I think we will take our business elsewhere. It only takes one bad apple to spoil a whole experience. A person who does not like dogs has no business working at a dog friendly winery. read more

This is by far the most cordial and tasty vineyard that I have ever discovered. The winemaker is humorous and very intelligent and makes all feel at home in a very friendly environment full of delicious wines. As for kid friendly- bringing children to a small tasting area where adults are drinking is not really appropriate. There was a small child at the last tasting I attended. He cried the entire time. No one could hear the winemaker speak. I offered to take the child outside since the parent seemed preoccupied. The child was much happier outside watching the rain and exploring. I missed the tasting, but feel the rest of the participants were quite happy (including his dad!). I am a teacher and love children, but feel it is not the right atmosphere to drag your child along to. Let them play elsewhere while you are partaking in a drinking event. It is a much better and safer choice. Bring your friends and I promise you will have a great time!! read more

I have gone to the barrel tasting twice and both times my friends and I loved it. The staff is nice and knowledgable. The tasting room is cold so bring a jacket or sweater. They give you a little nformation about when to open certain wines and how the various types are made. There is always cheese and bread; you can also bring a picnic and hang out with your friends, the second time I went they extended the tasting to the picnic area so that we could continue tasting with our lunch. I love the Port. They have a schedule for the barrel tasting on their web site. Oh, it is easy to miss the turnoff for the place so try to pay attention. read more

To me, this place is the gem of Menlo Park. To clarify, I visited during their Tuesday lunch offering and did not sample any of their wines. But man oh man was the food tasty. There's a big, wood-burning oven that they cook their handmade pizzas in, and on this particular day, they were also offering burgers, tri-tip sandwiches and salmon. Everything was fairly informal as it's just a few guys running the cooking/serving operation, but they were incredibly courteous. There's really nice outdoor seating if you want to take in some sun as well. I had the tri-tip sandwich, which was delicious. Meat was plentiful and cooked to pink perfection and the bread was on point. Overall, if you're in the South Bay on a Tuesday, definitely worth checking this place out! read more

My husband & I decided on a spur of the moment to buy the wine tasting deal from Groupon this past weekend. The Groupon deal was for a wine tasting, bottle of chardonnay & 1 pizza for 2 guests for Saturday & Sunday. We got to the tasting room, which is really just a warehouse where people can store their expensive antique cars, located in an industrial warehouse district of Menlo Park, with a corner section of the warehouse designated as the on-site brewery. The "pizza maker" was on vacation so no pizza. This place was literally a tasting room and nothing more. Somehow it just seemed to be deceptive in the way they advertise. Save yourself much disappointment and just enjoy the leisurely drive over to Morgan Hill and do the fun & inexpensive wine tastings at REAL vineyards such as Fortino's or Clois La Chance. One star for Woodside Vineyards aka AutoVino because the volunteer fella Don was just so knowledgeable and so very congenial. LUCKILY we came across some other disappointed loyal Grouponers who suggested Flemings Restaurant located at the Stanford Shopping Center. We drove over there for Happy Hour (5-7pm). $6 yummy cocktails & awesome wine selection, fabulous $6 dishes such as the prime burger, salt & pepper shrimp, calamari, bruschetta...
