We decided to try out a new wine place this weekend as the sun was finally out and we are glad to have discovered Wine Gallery. We went in late afternoon and it was cozy and calm. The wine and rosé we got were good recommendations. The artichoke dip was pretty tasty and so were the olives. Anna was great at ensuring we had a good time and she even brought us a deck of Uno cards to play. Turns out they have live music in the evenings on certain days. All in all I'd recommend Wine Gallery and we look forward to returning soon. read more

We went when the Eve Jazz Quartet played. Everything was perfect. Baked Halloumi and the Feta & Olive Plate tasted like nothing we'd had before. The warm pitta itself was so tasty. We got the least expensive bottle of wine, a 2018 Zinfandel, and to our surprise it was excellent wine. The Eve Jazz Quartet was Yoshi's worthy; like listening to KCSM, but live. Came here on a whim with my wife to have a night cap celebrating our wedding anniversary. Bread pudding was pretty good and the dessert wine I got was decent. My qualms though lies in the fact that when I tried looking up where I could get a bottle of the exact same wine, I realized how much of a markup this place charged for a 4oz pour ($16 vs a bottle costing $22 at wine shops).. I was also less than pleased to find that a credit card surcharge was added to the bill but this was not mentioned anywhere at all on the menu. Also found it weird that the surcharge was added even before the owner knew I was going to pay by card. read more

We came here about about 45 min before closing and tried the $36 Cabernet Sauvignon tasting. I loved the tasting because each wine presented was really unique from the other; all of them tasted high quality. You get to experience the following flavors: jammy/sweet, earthy, a combined sweet & earthy, and a smooth vegetal red. The crowd favorite was the sweet & earthy but my favorite was the more vegetal one. The interior of the wine bar was beautiful, luxe, and cozy. The host was friendly and seemed to love wine. Based on the context of our conversation, I asked the owner if he knew my neighbor, a person whom I've known for 20 years and has become a family friend. He responded "yes and she's b*itch". I am writing to update my review after hearing from the owner. He provided several ways to obtain information about the music and artists. Although I was disappointed that I could not find those details on the website, I learned about a site called AllAboutJazz, which provides lots of information about jazz in the SF Bay Area and which the owner updates regularly. We apparently missed a Bossa/Samba quartet yesterday, which would have brought us out had we known in time. I look forward to visiting the Wine Gallery on a Saturday evening in the near future. HOLY COW. I'm laughing right now after reading the most recent review by L D. Literally, a mirror of our experience earlier tonight. I've been eyeing this place for months. My husband and I are wine lovers and thought this place would be great for a date night away from our kids. So, tonight was the night. Nana was in town, and I needed a drink because I had a tough emotional postpartum day. Moms, if you know, you know. Before you assume, this review is not based on my emotions. I held it together very well. It was my husband, who was outspoken. This place opened at 5PM, and we arrived at 5:35pm. We were the third couple. The owner greeted us and said we can sit anywhere we wanted. Great! He said he'll be right with us. We ordered two flights, bratswurst and truffle popcorn. He said the food might take a little while because he's by himself. No problem. I feel bad for the guy, so I gave him some slack. He came back 10-12 minutes later with ONE flight for my husband. Then next 5 mins came back with popcorn. My husband gently reminded him, "oh, and my wife has a flight also." He said, "Yes, I know." I had a smile the entire time and told my husband to give him some slack. But, honestly, how hard is it to pour 3 glasses of tasting? I had to drink some of my husband's tasting while waiting. Then the guy started to chat with the couple at bar for 15 mins. He looked at us and told them he got to help other customers. He poured a glass, but it wasn't for me. Passed by us as if we were invisible. My husband most definitely pissed at this point, so he asked, "can we get our wine now?" The owner said "SURE!" wow. No apologies for the wait. Just "sure" as if we asking for water or napkins. After I got my flight (30 mins later), he came back to our table, and said, "sorry, we are out of Bratswurst." I was kinda happy and didn't care if he BS because I didn't want to wait anymore. My husband had some thoughts on his mind that this guy could either be racist or sexist towards me, but I stopped my husband right there. I said, I would never pull those cards out because I am not playing victim. He wasn't rude, nor did he make any remarks. His demeanor was rather, careless. Careless if he loses customers and it wouldn't bother him at all. This business might need a coffin soon if he continues to perform in that manner. Green/blue/blackish mold found on the charcuterie board. The way they handled it was even worse. They didn't even apologize or offer a refund. Instead they offered a partial refund on the board, right, not the bill, but the prosciutto part of the charcuterie board; or to replace it with the same prosciutto from the same batch and making sure they cut the mold off. I don't know about you all but that's about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. read more

Cabernet? More like caber-YAY! This quaint Wine Lounge is nestled at the end of Downtown San Carlos a few blocks away from all the hustle and bustle. It was the perfect setting for a romantic evening. The Live Music was also a very sweet surprise! Hubby and I sat at the bar where we met the owner, Len. He was very knowledgeable, and hospitality was superb from all the staff. We started off with two flights, You Had me at Pinot, and I Just Want Red. The pours were very generous and delicious. We got the Charcuterie Platter (prosciutto was AMAZING) and Truffle Popcorn (THIS IS A MUST TRY) and everything paired well with each other. A minimal food menu, more like small plates to snack on while sipping wine; the food was nothing to write home about. It's overpriced and lacks quality and quantity. San Carlos is a little bit far off from me but I'm so happy I decided to come after all! The restaurant is very cozy and dimly lit which makes for a very intimate setting. There's bar seating, tables, and couches available to lounge in. It's awesome that they have board games too! Ok now for the wine and food: I got a Pinot noir flight and my friend got a sweet white wine flight. We ordered a charcuterie plate to go along with it. It was delicious but nothing that really blew me away. I'd have to say my favorite part was actually dessert, which was the pumpkin spice bread pudding with ice cream. Soooo good! Cute little wine shop in downtown San Carlos. We did a seasonal rosé tasting today and it was very reasonably priced at $17/flight. Our favorite was the sparkling rosé, which I believe they carry all the time. The shop itself has a great relaxing and cozy ambiance, ideal for a date night. We had not been here in a while and decided to come for date night and found live music, a wonderful surprise! Al Corazon is a trio performing romantic Argentinan ballads, a lovely accompaniment to our Allegrini Pallazzo Della Torre red blend and Einskog Icelandic white ale (husband is not a wine drinker).such a great menu of flights and wines by the glass, knowledgeably curated. The kitchen is small and the woman who prepared our food was lovely and attentive. The mushroom bruschetta was delicately flavored on crisp crostini and the hummus had a delightful citrus drizzle. The evening was cool and we were sitting outside which was great in this uncrowded part of Laurel Street a bit south of the crazy/busy, and the French onion soup was perfect, flavorful and substantial while not being overwhelming. I see other reviews mentioning "short-staffed", and we were told the same thing last night. It was against my better judgment to stay, as we could already see that the other four people in there were being served very slowly, but stay we did. We were neither greeted nor told anything such as, "Hello, I'll be right with you". I had the good sense to order my glass immediately and wait for it at the bar. My two friends were not as fortunate. They ordered their drinks along with some food and we sat down. 15 minutes later, they still did not have their drinks yet. I'll mention again that at this time, there were only four other people in the bar, and they had already been served. Once they finally got their drinks, it was another 10-15 minutes before the gentleman came back to tell them that they were out of both of the menu items that they ordered. Why did it take almost half an hour to let my friends know that they were out of what they ordered?? They gave up on any food and my friend then inquired about the price of a bottle of wine - he had no idea, and didn't think of saying, "One moment, I'll go check the price and let you know". While my friends went to pay their bill at the bar, I was excited to get out of there. For the next ten minutes (at least), while waiting for them (how long could it possibly take to pay for two glasses of wine?), I chatted with a couple that was sitting outside. They said that they had gotten this same, slow service many times and also had been consistently told that they're "short-staffed". This seems to be a recurring problem. Wondering what was happening at the bar, I went back in and found one of my friends STILL attempting to pay for her glass of wine. Apparently, he had closed my one friend's bill and then started to take care of a completely different person who walked up AFTER both my friends did. My friend was very irritated, and the two of us paid the exact amount of our wine with no tip. I cannot even remember a time that I haven't at least left a $1.00 tip, and that would be for bad service. We met up with our friends outside and relayed the entire situation. You would've thought, that after the horrible service and lack of food, that we would've been comped our drinks, or, at the very least, gotten some sort of discount, or at the very VERY least, gotten an "I'm sorry about all that", but he didn't seem to have the situational awareness to realize that what he provided was extremely bad "service". Longest 1.5 hrs. of my life. We will not be going back. It's extremely rare that I would take 20 minutes out of my day to write a review, but in this case, it was warranted and deserved. read more

I visited the Wine Gallery last week and was delighted by the food and wine offerings. The atmosphere was also fun and inviting. Their menu is small plates and includes an impressive selection of cheeses. The crostinis are really something, especially the Peaches & Creme, which is a peach and Brie combo that is out of this world. Not something I have tried anywhere else, and it was probably the best thing I've tried this year. Hats off to the chef Melissa Holden! As for the wine, I tried a Sauvignon Blanc from France, and it was quite good. I heard they even employ their own sommelier, which tells you they are serious about their wine. Visited this cozy and beautifully arranged local wine gallery last Saturday on a double date. Simply just enough - the wine, yummy food, sexy couch/seating, ambiance, art, board games, and the music was perfect (not too loud or too low). The woman who waited on us asked if the choice of music was ok, what a thoughtful gesture! We spent a good amount of time there from 4pm (when they opened till) 7ish.
